Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush
When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.

Torrent of Fear takes readers back to Lantern Beach written and populated by Christy Barritt. I actually enjoyed this little novella. I liked the budding romance between two characters who actually knew each other in the past. I liked how the suspense element was questioning whether a close friend was actually haunting them or really dead. Nice concept. I have seen it done a couple of times, but I actually enjoyed it, so it didn't feel cheapened or anything. Overall, Torrent of Fear by Christy Barritt was a thrill for fans of Barritt's numerous works, fans of Lantern Beach, or great for new readers on a hunt for a new cozy mystery. Definitely a good book to spend time with.

I never miss a trip back to Lantern Beach. I enjoyed Torrents of Fear because it was nice to get Carter Denver's story and finally know what lead him to Lantern Beach and I always enjoy a visit with the gang from Lantern Beach. Some strange things start happening and Carter is convinced he is being followed by his old singing partner and girlfriend, Allison. Only problem with that is Allison died years ago. He enlists support from another old friend, Sadie who also believes it is Allison who is after them. Did Allison really die in that car accident or is she back after all these years? You'll have to read to find out.

I was given a copy of this story by the author. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

How refreshing. After the last book that I read by Christy Barritt, this one hit the mark spot-on!

I so enjoyed getting to know the story of Carter Denver, and I loved meeting Sadie. Their true friendship came back together in no time. I enjoyed its authenticity.

While I wouldn't classify this story as a strong mystery, I would certainly mark it as an intense suspense. And I enjoyed the innocents in how the main characters found themselves in trouble time and again. It felt very realistic. I could see myself acting/reacting in the same manner.

I've finished with the Lantern Beach Romantic Suspense series, but I'm definitely not through with Lantern Beach. I can't wait to learn what more it offers.

Who is the Culprit

While singing at the end of the boardwalk by the beach one October evening, Carter was shocked to see someone he was sure died six years ago. No, he had to be seeing things that his mind conjured up. A short time later, he saw the same person again and decided to go find her. But then he got knocked out by a hit on the back of his head. After the Police Chief talked with him, he went home and called the one person who he believed could definitely help him make sense of everything going on now. Sadie left Nashville that night to meet him in Lantern Beach, NC. Again bizarre things began to happen. They began to brainstorm the things which were happening. They talked about the possibilities of it being someone they knew from long ago. But were they wrong? A good plot for a short read.

Lantern Beach’s local singer sees his former partner in the crowd at his concert on the island. But she died in an auto accident years earlier. Who is trying to trick him into thinking she’s still alive, and why? He calls his high school best friend, Sadie Thompson, who happens to be a therapist, to come to his assistance. However, someone has set their sights on harming Carter and Sadie. They work not only to survive the dangers but to get to the bottom of exactly what is going on. The suspense grips readers to the end. This is a short novel and can easily be read in an afternoon. Of course, we see some of our favorite Lantern Beach characters in this story, like Police Chief Cassidy Chambers. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

Lantern Beach suspense returns with the focus on understated musician Carter Denver and his secret past. That history returns to haunt him and bring a reunion with his estranged best friend, Sadie. Unfortunately, that places her in harm's way as well. They must work together before it's too late.

Christy Barritt always provides an enjoyable experience, especially in the Lantern Beach world. Torrents provided a relaxing tale of suspense this weekend, with the conclusion this rainy afternoon. Sign me up for the next edition of the series!

I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.

Torrents of Fear by Christy Barritt is a fantastic new addition to the Lantern Beach mysteries. Carter’s story is surprisingly complex and he’s starting to question even what he knows to be true. Part psychological mystery, part suspense novel, and part romance— this book has everything! I recommend it highly. Ms Barrritt has the ability to consistently write page turners without seeming to repeat herself. They are ALL unique and ALL amazing reads. Loved this one! I received a digital copy of this book from the author with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

Carter Denver's past haunts his present

When Lantern Beach musician Carter Denver sees a woman from his past, he can't believe his eyes: The woman in question died in a car accident six years previously. Did his girlfriend and singing partner manage to survive, or is someone playing a sick game with Carter and his best friend, Sadie Thompson?

Author Christy Barritt's novella is sure to please readers new and old alike. Though part of Barritt's Lantern Beach universe (Lantern Beach Romantic Suspense, specifically), the story can be read in its own.

Highly recommended!

Quick read

Torrents of Fear takes place mostly in the rain, hence the title. Old friends Emily (now a life coach) & Carter (a mostly retired megastar) get together after a six year hiatus following the death of their mutual friend Allison. Only now it appears Allison has a doppelganger tracking Carter with a crazed obsession. And she's got a gun! The book is short--only 140 pages--so it's a quick read. Christy Barrett keeps the action going throughout. Recommended for cozy mystery/suspense fans.

This book takes us back to Lantern Beach and involves one of the characters that has always been in the background in the other books. The book gives us the story of Carter’s past abs what brought him to Lantern Beach. He is reunited with an old friend that he hasn’t seen in several years. Together the work to solve the mystery that is surrounding them and maybe they will find love in the midst of it. I enjoyed the book but it was a little too short in my opinion.

Edge of Your Seater

First, let me say that I love Lantern Beach!
In this book Carter, a singer/songwriter, spots an old girlfriend at the back of the crowd at one of his gigs. That wouldn’t be a problem except she was dead! Then lyrics from his songs begin to be enacted putting himself and his old friend from school in danger. What is going on? If you enjoy fast paced suspense, then this is the book for you! Great characters and realistic situations. Enjoy Lantern Beach!

Quick read by a favorite author. I've been able to get free Christy Barritt books via the Kindle Owner's Lending Library feature at Amazon, but this appears to be phasing out. I will have to find other avenues to read her books. Though, to be fair, they are starting to be a bit repetitive. This one was short, about musician Carter Denver in Lantern Beach, and a woman who looks exactly like his dead fiancé terrorizing him. It was short and an easy read :)

once you start this series, you can’t stop.

Christy Barritt has a way that weaves suspense and the right amount of romance to make you keep reading and reading late into the night., even though I have to get up early for work the next day. Her characters are always enjoyable and real to life. She also touches on a lot of issues that people deal with everyday. Read this series and I assure you that you will be happy you did

Great story!

Mrs. Barritt has done it again. I don't know how she can consistently crank out book after book in several different series and make each 1 a winner. This 1 in particular kept me up half the night because I couldn't put it down.
If you're looking for a good suspenseful book to read, try this one, you'll be glad you did. I love it!

I enjoyed revisiting Lantern Beach with some of the characters from previous stories. This one drew my interest from the first page and the action played out quickly. One thing I enjoy about this author is that her books are short and she gets to the point without a lot of extra details. Well done.

Outcomes shaped by the winds of God

Intrigued by your ability to create such a diversity of characters and their back stories. Absolutely bonded to Lantern Beach, the sincere friendships and caring drawn from reliance on God. You craft images in word, song and poetry. A plethora of harmonious gifts.

Sweet Romantic Suspense

This story is Carter and Sadie’s story. They have been besties since school, but when their other best friend died they grew apart. Six years later when Carter needs her, Sadie goes to help save the day. I didn’t know who the villain was for awhile. So, that was nice. I loved how Cassidy is still rocking her job and they weren’t trying to do her job.

I just love visiting Lantern Beach and the community that Christy Barritt has created. This visit focusing on Carter and Sadie had a great mystery and 2nd chance romance. My only complaint is that it was much too short and over quickly. A wonderful read.

Adrenaline rush

This book is full on suspense right from the start, in fact downright creepy at times with a "ghost" stalking Carter and Sadie. Excellent addition to the Lantern Beach series.

I've loved this series and the characters. I'd hoped to know more about Carter, who was quietly on the sidelines playing his guitar. This was an exciting way to get to know his past and understand why he's in present danger. I feel like I've been at the beach, soaked from the storm!

There is an interesting twist in this novella. I enjoyed reading this book but I also have to admit that I was a little bit disappointed not to find many of the Lantern Beach series regular characters in attendance.
