Rate this book
A palace couldn’t hold her or her fierce personality. Even the most favored of Queen Adelaide could cross a line. When she did so, Bridget Yearwood was sent back to the island from where she was taken long ago. With the sands beneath her feet, she built her fortune answering to no one and became a queen in her own right. The men of industry wanted to control or destroy her and Bridget thought she could handle it all herself. That was until Laird Finlay Davidson came to the shores of her island home. He vowed to protect her even from herself, and that meant Bridget waking up in his bed, on his ship and married no less. The Laird of Clan Dhai and of the Whitewolf, looked at her with love in his eyes and passion in his kiss. But could Bridget believe anything about him, when she learned of his true intentions?

4.5-5 stars for this beautiful love story!

“Bridget wanted to feel every sensual thing he was offering.”

All the freakin feels! Barbados meets Scotland in this marriage of convenience historical romance! I can’t tell you the feelings I felt having a heroine that looks like me in a historical! I loved Bridget so much. She was strong, willful and fierce because she had to be for survival. I don’t want to spoil a thing, but this story hit all the marks for me!

An interracial romance.

A kidnapping (to save the heroine’s life.)

Marriage of convenience.

A well developed story, and characters.

Steamy, passionate love.

Detailed descriptions of Barbadian life, it’s culture, the food, life on a ship, and setting feet on the land of Scottish soil. Such well written details! Dahlia, the author shared with me that herself being from Barbados, she wanted to highlight in this story, the huge Scottish, Irish and Gaelic history coming through the Caribbean. I felt this book in a real way, and that is the power of a good storyteller! I look forward to more in this series.

I love when a good man can break down the walls of a strong woman allowing her to see that she can trust him, and that she doesn’t have to carry the load all on her own..Finn was perfection, and so patient.

“Teach me.” He stared at her curiously. “What should I teach you? “To love like a wife should her husband, to trust,” Bridget implored him with her eyes. “I want to find safety in your arms, and not feel like I need to be strong all the time. I want to sleep through the night and know someone is there to protect me. I have never felt like that in all my life.”

Great Story! BUT NEEDS HELP!

I loved the story. Although quite short for a historical romance and truly lacking in facts, the theme is interesting and believable. The reason for only 2 stars is the editing and proofreading. There were many grammatical and spelling errors which took away from important moments. This book appeared rushed and lacked basic research. Who was the queen during this time period and exactly what was this time period? Reference in the book was made to two queens, queen Charlotte and queen Adelaide. Nearly all historical aspects could have been found through Google. Yes I read and enjoyed mostly the sex scenes which were very well written. I recommend the author take it down, correct the errors and relaunch the book.

Indie published novella about a Barbadian landowner who's kidnapped by a Scottish lord in an attempt to regain his family's stolen land and protect her from dangerous scam artists.

The story itself would've benefitted from at least 150 more pages. As it stands, I felt Bridget accepted her fate a little too quickly. There's a story here about the trauma she suffered when she was kidnapped and made into a present for the crown. I think more time would've allowed for her to have more time to heal from that without it feeling like we sort of turn the page into Bonetown.

Truth be told, Finn doesn't force her, but there's always a question of just how consensual this could possibly be.

There was an abuse of commas here. Some in the strangest of places. There were a few typos, but not so many that I was taken out of the story. Overall, this was okay. I would read more stories from this author.

Good story premise, but it was short. I feel like the story could have been more fully developed and fleshed out. There were also a lot of spelling and grammatical errors in the book. Hence, the 3 stars.

I really liked the premise of this book and I loved the plot but there was a lot of grammatical errors that was distracting.

This was a cute read. Not what I would typically read as I'm a more dark romance type of girl, but I honestly enjoyed this. Bridget is a strong-willed woman and I LOVE that! She is a bit hardheaded but that's where Finn comes in. He's not only there to give his love, obviously 🙄, but to help her protect her wealth. There are some baddies that are out to hurt the couple but they get help and have their hea- enjoyed it.

This book has excellent potential. The plot is wholly unique to what I've read from historical romance before. I loved the Barbadian culture and food references. I loved that Bridget was a strong, free, independent woman determined not to let a man take over her life. It was very quick reading, and Scotland's one of my favorites so I loved that they travelled there, albeit briefly.

I did have trouble getting past the enormous amount of typos. I read a lot of ARCs so I can overlook the occasional issue with no problem but the amount of typos and misuse of commas were incredibly distracting. They were constantly placed where they don't belong and it threw off the whole cadence of the book. It's hard for it to flow when the punctuation is pausing in the middle of sentences for no reason. I think the name of the queen changed at some point as well.

I also felt like the "steamy" bits were a little wooden and robotic and would take me out of the story. I love steamy bits, they're my make or break so these sounding like a robotic simulation was just confusing.

I think with a good editor and some shaping up it could be an excellent book, but as it was it felt unfinished and rushed.

Worth the Wait

I was super excited to read the promo for this story and it did not disappoint me at all!

The story was well developed and the characters were alive for me and the suspense and drama were impactful. My first love of romance were historical and Dahlia Rose did an outstanding job with setting this back in a time where women and especially Black women were not valued. This was evident by the plot of the White male landowners that came to Bridget's home to marry her and steal her land and fields.

Finn was you atypical hero that still had to take a big risk but laid trusted in his attraction and eventual love of Bridget to make her see the tightness of his plan.

The Queen's role and assistance as invaluable in the telling of this tale. This was a wonderful story that I would recommend to every lover of romance. As with crafting new worlds, Dahlia did an excellent job in bringing to life the era. I can't wait for another historical by her.

I loved Finlay and Bridget
The story depicts how women were treated in the distant past. Maybe not the too distant past. It shows the lengths some greedy men would go to gain power and wealth, especially if a single woman, let alone a woman of color was in control of that wealth. It also shows how a traumatic childhood event affects an adult at the most inopportune time. Those effects only lay dormant.

Laird Finlay Davidson fell in love with Bridgett the moment he laid eyes on her. His plan to marry her was just the icing on the cake. He had to persuade her that his heart was in the right place for his clan Dhair and getting their ancestral lands back and expose the robber barons to the Queen.

I loved how Dahlia Rose portrayed the couple. Finlay courted Bridget to make sure she understood his love of her. In doing so, he awakened feelings she never knew existed. Their chemistry was so sweet.

A decent read

Likes: I am a sucker for a WMBW storyline. I liked that Bridget was strong willed without the forced feminist pov in our present culture. Finn was nice, honorable, and had mild sex appeal as far as male leading characters go. The scene where he and Samuel were first introduced to Bridget, I felt Sam had more of a natural appeal than Finn. The Queen’s brief part in the story was nice. I find myself wanting to know more about both the Queen and Samuel, b/c I find them to interesting because briefly mentioned.

Dislikes: Tbh, the sex scenes were dull and I didn’t like the fact that they held actual dialogue whole sexing. The scenes were not well crafted.

Rating: 3 stars b/c it was a decent read but not exciting. The characters, storyline, overall character interaction was not rememberable or exciting.

Recommendation: Invest in all characters, not just the main 2. I guess that will make the book longer, but better. Also, spice up the sex scenes.

Dahlia brings to life beautiful pictures of the islands and Scotland. A beautiful strong woman of color who's "bewitched" all the men on the island and want to control her for her lands and to make her be inferior to them cause they can't bear having her have all this power. In comes a scottish brute who will not let anyone try to tame her wild spirit. Tho he has personal reasons of his own he can't help the attraction and makes it his mission to make what started as a facade real. Danger passion and overcoming past fears to possibly start the story of a lifetime for 2 people from 2 different worlds.

Protected Love ❤️

Bridget Yearwood, Queen of the Barbarian Isle is being pursued by men to either claim her heart ❤️ and land or to wrestle it away from her. This story is set in an era when women were regarded as inept to handle affairs as men, but Bridget held her own. Unknown to her, she has been gifted Scottish land from her adopted mother, Queen Adelaide, and several emissaries wish to make their coffers larger by brutally using her and then murdering her. Enter Laird Findlay Davidson of Clan Dhai, who falls in love with her upon approaching her with a proposal of marriage which will get the lands back into the clan’s rightful hands. This love story and romance is a wonderful read!🦋

To be honest it's not a bad story. I give it two stars, not because of something in particular, but because it truly was just ok. Still, I couldn't understand how the main heroine got her land and kept it from men before the things happening in the book, because I didn't find her particularly formidable. For me, at times, she was even naive. So how exactly she amassed, and kept, that wealth everyone is talking about? Kind of unclear. She is said to be very strong and authoritve, but...well she isn't? You get kidnapped and don't trow at least one hissy fit? Like a big one. It needed a big hissy fit. At least.
The love story in general...well, it wasn't anything special to be honest. So yeah. Nice read, but nothing to talk that much about.

This book took me back to where it all began for most of us who read romance. It’s the tale of a swashbuckling pirate who kidnaps a lady and sweeps her away to sea. But this time, she looks like me. To read a historical with a black heroine that has her own wealth, albeit she is still looked upon as the weaker sex by some, is so refreshing. I actually shed tears because this is what I’d always wanted to read as a girl. I’d always wanted to see myself in the face of the heroine, even in those historicals that I’d read. Bravo Ms. Rose. I hope you have more of this world down the line for us readers.

This book is a historical romance with a black heroine and a swashbuckling pirate set to a backdrop of the author's homeland of Barbados. This book has intrigue, mystery, sinister men, royal connections, family, love and steamy scenes of love making.
Bridget is a strong free rich black woman in a time of slaves. As a successful black woman, albeit still looked upon as the weaker sex by some, men want what she has built. Finn is a Scottish pirate in search for his family's land. Bridget is firey and whity, while Finn is cool but determined. Together they made a perfect pair.
I highly recommend this read! Dahlia Rose never disappoints.

I gave it a 5 stars

I loved this book. It was based on time when slavery was abolish in Barbados. Bridget was a rich and black woman living on the island of Barbados in castle. A gift from the Queen Adalaide to her favor. But, it was unknown for a woman and especially a black woman to have that much wealth and power. She meets Laird Finlay and other gentlemen who tried to propose marriage to get her lands. Except, Finn wanted the land to be back in his clan and he fell in love with Bridget on first sight. Laird Finlay and Lady Bridget made a strong couple. They get to their HEA at the very end.

Dahila Rose's new book of a free black woman who favors the crown and men wanted her land and money. Highland Laird Finlay Davidson has a plan to rescue Bridget Yearwood and regain his land taken by the crown. Bridget wanted nothing to do with Laird Davidson or the men of industry proposals of marriage. Laird Davidson takes matters into his own and kidnaps Bridget. I enjoyed reading this story; the chemistry between Fin and Bridget was well developed.

I loved Finn's and Bridget's story. Dahlia Rose made me thoroughly enjoy stepping out of my normal reading genres and into this historical romance. I loved that Bridget was confident in herself and what she had built after which definitely wasn't the norm for that time period and the time period the book takes place in and Finn was the perfect match to be by her side. Of course it wasn't exactly easy as there was plotting, intrigue, and other nefarious doings by other characters in the story but I really enjoyed reading about it all. This was a great story!

Awesome

I had so many different emotions reading Bridget and Finn story. I loved every page, a man I almost cried like crazy, when Bridget had a flash back. I wouldn’t mind finding me a man like Finn close to my age though. Ms Rose, I love your stories, I have to look in my noble (the first app I started buying books in), to make sure I don’t buy it twice in my kindle app. I believe I have everything you wrote. Well, since I finish this awesome story, I’m waiting on the next one.

“Bridget is a free woman with so much wealth it is unheard of. “

“If it is not a journey to climb the mountain, how can I enjoy the scenery? “

His Highland Queen - Dahlia Rose 👑❤️

Romance. Strength. Barbados and Scotland join forces in marriage. Interracial marriage. Black heroine. ❤️🥰

Period pieces sometimes takes some getting used to, but this book from the first page was so entertaining, romantic, and clever. I could picture everything in detail. The cultural description, the language, the island. So beautiful and rare from other Historical Fiction stories. A quick read that completely pulled me in!!! A perfect dessert.

I started my romance reading as a teen with historical romances. It was unheard of then to have a story feature a woman of color. If it did, she was enslaved. Eventually, a few authors of color emerged who brought heroines of color into the Historical Genre. I'm very please with Dahlia Rose's contribution to the historical romances that I love. Telling a story that gives us someone to love and cheer for and someone to hate with equal intensity. Great Read.

Finn and Bridget are the perfect couple. I love the attraction that was there at the initial meeting. This book has it all from intrigue, mystery, sinister men, royal connections, family, love and off the charts love making. I also find it awesome that the author used her homelands as a backdrop. I highly recommend this read!!

This!

As a teenager, I devoured historical romances and not one of them contained a heroine that looks like me. My wait is over! Dahlia Rose, as always, delivers richly drawn characters and settings, plausible plots though not predictable, sizzling chemistry, and a satisfying ending!

I have a new favorite Author

The story was a five star book. But there were some grammatical errors and some unspoken worked that sometimes caused me to have to go back and re-read the parts over. The story in itself could not have been sweeter. I look forward to reading more of Dhalia's books. In fact I have already purchased a few.

Beautiful romantic story

Beautiful family story of romance and thrill. Explicit sex scenes not necessary and could be toned down a bit. The characters and relationship could have had more depth, but overall the story was exciting whether or not historically accurate. So glad for the HEA. So needed and all I plan on spending time with enjoyable reading. Please keep writing

This was a regency type period story. While I don’t normally read this genre, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Finn was a rake, but he was loyal to his clan and Bridget. This story included a lot of treachery and also included a benevolent queen.

Ok so i have to say it was a slow burn in the begining of the book. However by the real kick off to the relationship between the main characters I was invested to see them til the end.For historical settings really not being my flavor this was a good comfortable read.
