4.5* - Scorned Justice is #3 in The Men of the Texas Rangers series, but each book is a separate story & not connected to any of the other titles, so it doesn't matter if you haven't read the others.

Judge Rebecca Morgan has a huge case coming up - a trial of someone high profile in one of the local gangs. She is expecting trouble to target her, but when it does arrive it is far worse than she could have ever imagined.

Texas Ranger Brody Calhoun has arrived at the ranch Rebecca & her brother Thomas co-own for Thomas' birthday. He intends to just be there for Thomas, & then disappear again as he doesn't want to spend too much time with Rebecca - the girl he loved & lost. However, a terrible accident puts Brody's protective instincts on the alert & he determines to stay & protect Rebecca, & put a stop to the menance threatening her & those she loves.

The case is not straightforward though, things are not adding up - Brody can't help but feel he's missing something. Can he also keep his heart intact this time, because all the time he's spending with her is reinforcing how much he loves her - walking away will be even harder this time round.

Fans of Margaret Daley's Love Inspired Suspense books will notice a very similiar plot from one of those stories with this one. However, even though I kind of knew where the story was heading, & had a fairly good idea who the mastermind was behind it all, I did still get drawn into the story which was well written & kept my attention throughout.

I've already enjoyed Saving Hope & am now looking forward to reading Shattered Silence & Severed Trust

This Kindle edition was sent to me by the author in the hope that I would review it. However, receiving this copy did not influence my review.

#1 Saving Hope by Margaret Daley
#2 Shattered Silence (Men of the Texas Rangers series, #2) by Margaret Daley

Title: SCORNED JUSTICE
Author: Margaret Daley
Publisher: Abingdon Press
March 2013
ISBN: 978-1-4236-1436-8
Genre: romantic suspense

Texas Ranger Brody Calhoun is with his parents in west Texas when an unexpected attack injures the brother of Rebecca Morgan, Brody's high school sweetheart. The
local sheriff, a good friend, asks for Brody’s help. At first, it seems like an open-and-shut case.

As Brody digs deeper, he realizes the attack may be related to an organized crime trial Rebecca will be overseeing. With Rebecca's help, he compiles evidence involving cattle rustling, bribery, and dirty payoffs that shatter the entire community and put Rebecca directly in the line of fire.

Brody expects to protect her. What he never expects is to fall for Rebecca all over again, or for a murder to throw the case wide open. Is Brody's faith strong enough to withstand not only deep-rooted corruption and cattle rustling, but also love?

SCORNED JUSTICE is book three in Ms. Daley’s The Men of the Texas Rangers series, but it easily stands alone. I didn’t read books 1 or 2, Saving Hope or Shattered Silence and I had no trouble understanding what was happening.

The writing is more told than shown, keeping the reader at a distance. As a result I didn’t grow to care for these characters. There is romance, action, suspense, and mysteries included in this cowboy themed romantic suspense. Readers will be kept guessing whodunit until the end. $14.99. 370 pages.

Margaret Daley is back with her third installment in the super-charged Men of the Texas Rangers series. In fact, super-charged just barely does this justice. The suspense, action, danger and mystery is bigger than the state of Texas. Cattle rustling doesn't seem all that life threatening, but stir in organized crime and a family looking for revenge and the story becomes much more graphic.

And I do mean graphic. Not in a gratuitous way, but these crimes are real and they're presented as real without the sugar coating often used to soften the edges for readers. It's true to life with just enough of a peek inside to really see the evil that's driving these events. Which, of course, drove me up the wall wondering, "Who did this?!?"

That answer shocked me to my toes. I didn't see it coming. At all. Not even a little bit. Yet once the truth is known, it all makes sense. This is the kind of suspense and story telling that keeps me coming back for more from Margaret Daley. The romance is great, I wouldn't want the story without it, it makes the grittiness all worth while. But the adrenaline rush that runs along side it on every page - that's what makes it super-charged.

Texas Ranger, Brody, moved away from his childhood friends as they grew older and he developed feelings for the younger sister, Rebecca. He couldn't stay around and watch Rebecca marry another. That was close to 10 years ago.

Now, Brody is back in town and Rebecca's life is in danger due to her role as the sitting judge in a retrial involving the Russian mafia. Coupled with strange occurrences at the ranch and to her loved ones, Rebecca falls under Brody's protection.

I have read Daley's works before and enjoyed them. This story has a great premise, but fell short in the execution. The chemistry between Brody and Rebecca is lacking. There are also several instances of editorial mistakes which detracted from the story. The dialogue was forced at times.

Daley did manage to throw a curveball towards the end when she revealed the villain's accomplice. While I didn't see that one coming, I hadn't developed much sympathy for that character either.

Although this story didn't really grab me, I would be willing to give the author another chance, but perhaps not on a lengthy book.

Talk about an action packed book! I cannot believe how well written each and every plot line in this story was written, executed, and wrapped up. The story is excellently written and focuses on revenge. Overall, this was a fast-paced, edge of your seat, keep you guessing until the very end suspenseful romance. I highly recommend it!

I enjoyed this book. It kept my interest from start to finish. I kept trying to figure out who was behind all of the mishaps. You think it has to do with the trial but maybe not. Just when you think you have it figured out you get thrown a curve ball. Things are not what they seem!

There are many things happening at once but not in a scattered way where you lose track or feel like you need to take notes. It was well written and the characters well developed. I loved the young girls, Kim and Aubrey and would love to see more of them. Any conversation around them was just fun to read.

WOW! I did not see that ending coming at all!

Christian Contemporary Suspenseful Romance

Book three is my favorite so far! A stronger Christian message, and a more intense murder mystery.

The most difficult story to listen to so far! This one was very personal, and you felt violated listening to the evil. Revenge. It's always a horrific choice!
One cop's voice really grated on my nerves, but otherwise the character voices seemed well distinguished and varied!
There was much more conversations on God and keeping your faith strong despite difficult situations in your life!

Good story and characters. Likable main characters and love story. With a Texas ranger plot and intertwined story lines I hoped for detail that was very believable with attention to legal detail. Wish there was a more clear understanding of the cattle rustling. Also, not to give away the end but wish the author had described more family detail in Rebecca's life and family and that the protective detail for her as a judge looked into her old cases far sooner in the story.

The three of them had been friends since their youth, now it seems like someone is out to destroy them. The depth of revenge had no boundaries, stealing cattle, fires, car accidents, kidnapping. to murder. Protection didn’t seem enough, pieces weren’t coming together. Was it all gang related, or closer then what they thought. Good gripping thriller of a family that United their strength and prayers to keep love ones safe.

This is a good romantic suspense story with a dash of Christian fiction thrown in (light on the Christian part). I usually don't like hearing from the perp's POV but it was OK enough here. This has been a good series.

A tense mystery.

This book held my interest to the last page which is nothing new from this author. I have read many of her books and plan to read more. Characters are strong and well defined and the storyline hold the sense of mystery to the end.

There were many twists and turns in this book. The characters could barely take a breath (or get some sleep) between traumatic events. It was very suspenseful and the mastermind behind the events surprised me. If you like romantic suspense, this is one I recommend.

What is it like to want revenge so much you go too far? What does it do to you? To the people around you? God wants us to forgive someone who has hurt us or done something wrong to us. Revenge comes out of the ability not to forgive a person for a wrong done. That is the premise behind the latest novel, Scorned Justice by Margaret Daley, the third book in her Men of the Texas Rangers Series.

When District Court Judge Rebecca Morgan receives a floral delivery, she isn't prepared for what she receives, a dozen long-stem roses - all dead. This is the first of many messages she gets pertaining to her recent case before her dealing with the murder of a business man by a high-level member of the Russian mob. The first trial had been declared a mistrial when it was revealed their was jury tampering. She's not about to let this tactic change her opinion about overseeing the case.

However when her brother Thomas is attacked, she wonders if this is about her recent appointment on the case or simply an accident on the ranch. Since her brother has lapsed into a coma due to his injuries, Texas Ranger, Brody Calhoun has taken on the assignment of protecting her and investigating the case for possible answers. The one problem he has with Rebecca is that he still carries feeling for her from childhood that left him with a broken heart when she married someone else. However now that Rebecca is recently widowed, she isn't exactly sure she wants to risk her heart to another cop. She finds it hard not to fall for Brody especially when he is assigned as her personal bodyguard until the trial is over.

However when Rebecca takes over running the ranch til her brother recovers, she is about to wonder just how far the Russian mob will go to make sure that this case doesn't go to trial. First cattle are stolen off the property, then she and her nieces are almost run down in town and then a fire that threatens to burn down the family home and ranch lands. Is this simply a series of accidents, or is something else going on that no one had considered. All Rebecca knows for sure is she can't let a guilty man go free while she can do something about it, even if it means putting her entire family at risk.

I received Scorned Justice by Margaret Daley compliments of Christian Fiction Blog Alliance and Abingdon Press for my honest review. I have not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review. I did LOVE this one!!! It was so good from the very first page, that I took my time reading this one. Margaret did an exceptional job blending just the right amount of romantic tension between Rebecca and Brody with the adrenaline infused suspense. More than half way through the book, I still couldn't quite figure out what was going on, and wondered just what was waiting for either of them around the next corner. You can understand the unwillingness to get involved with Brody after losing her husband, Garrett in the line of duty. This is the third book in the Men of the Texas Rangers series, and so far it's my favorite. I love the idea of using revenge to motivate a character to stop at nothing until he has accomplished his purpose, which makes for an exceptional villain. In my opinion I would rate this one a perfect 5 out of 5 Texas Stars!!! Now I am in limbo land waiting for the next book, Severed Trust coming this fall. If you're a fan of romance and suspense, you'll want to pick this one up today.

Margaret Daley in her new book, “Scorned Justice book coverScorned Justice” Book Three in The Men of the Texas Rangers Series published by Abingdon Press gives us a contemporary adventure with The Texas Rangers.

From the back cover: Can love survive when everything else is blown apart?

When Texas Ranger Brody Calhoun is called to investigate an attack that has injured the brother of Brody’s high school sweetheart, Rebecca Morgan, he thinks it’s an open-and-shut case. But as Brody digs deeper, he realizes the attack may be related to an organized crime trial Rebecca will be overseeing. With Rebecca’s help, he compiles evidence of cattle rustling, bribery, and dirty payoffs which shatter their entire community and puts Rebecca directly in the line of fire.

Brody expects to protect Rebecca. But he never expects to fall for her all over again, or for a murder to throw the case wide open. Is Brody’s faith strong enough to withstand not only deep-rooted corruption and cattle rustling but also love?

I like stories that involve The Texas Rangers. It does not matter to me what time period the story takes place in just so that it involves them. There is a certain personality to this group that captures my attention. Let me say this right off, Margaret Daley does not disappoint! I also think that “Scorned Justice” is her best work yet. Ms. Daley knows how to ratchet up the tension so that your nerves are strung tight as you work with Brody and Rebecca to break the organized crime ring that has had a death on their community. “Scorned Justice” is a thriller as the characters are in deadly danger practically from page one. “Scorned Justice is filled with intrigue, deceit, mystery, and deadly killers. On top of everything Ms. Daley manages to weave a romance into this story that just captivates you. She makes you care for all the characters and their journey. This is also just plain fun and exciting as well. Don’t start this book late at night because it will cost you sleep. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Scorned Justice is an action packed suspense romance, full of murder, mystery, with a dash of romance!

District Court Judge Rebecca Morgan is presiding over the trial of a top ranking member of the Russian Mafia. It’s beginning to look like someone wants her off this trial when, her brother, Thomas Sinclair, has an accident on the ranch that puts him in a coma, Rebecca is nearly run over by a truck, and a witness for the trial is found dead. With her reputation as a tough judge, could the Russian Mob want her out of the picture? It certainly looks that way, as terrible things continue to happen to her and to those she loves.

Texas Ranger Brody Calhoun, childhood friend of both Rebecca and her brother, Thomas, is assigned to protect Rebecca. Brody has always loved Rebecca, but when she married someone else he moved away, now he’s back, and Rebecca’s a widow. Will spending so much time together finally bring them together? I loved how well Brody and Rebecca got along, even after ten years, it was like they had never been apart. Best friends before; best friends now. Rebecca could trust Brody with her life. He is the only one who makes her feel safe when everything is falling apart.

Scorned Justice has quite a cast of characters! Hattie the housekeeper at the Ranch, who is more like a member of the family. Brody’s father, Sean, a retired cop, is recovering from a heart attack, he doesn’t like being treated like an invalid and wants to help out in the investigation. Then there are Rebecca’s sweet nieces, Thomas’s girls, I found them adorable!

I liked how Daley left little cliff hangers every once in a while throughout the book to be picked up a short time later. And there is a twist at the end that totally took me by surprise!

I was surprised by how much I liked this story because mystery and suspense are not my favorite genre to read. My first love is romance, and there is a happy mix of all three!

Scorned Justice is the first book I’ve read of Margaret Daley, and I loved it! This is the third book in the series, but it stands alone. I definitely want to read the first two, and Daley is currently working on a fourth.

As part of the author’s virtual book tour, I had the opportunity to review her latest Christian fiction, Scorned Justice. While this is the third installment in the Men of the Texas Rangers series, it is a stand alone read.

Texas Ranger Brody Calhoun arrives at his childhood friend’s home for his birthday party only to learn he has been seriously injured in an accident. His friend, Thomas, was dragged by his horse while he was out checking on his ranch.

At first glance the incident appears to be a simple accident. But as Brody begins to investigate, he realizes the accident may be related to an organized crime trial Thomas’ sister, Judge Rebecca Morgan, is overseeing.

With Rebecca’s help, Brody will discover a case that will shatter the entire community and put Rebecca and her family in more danger. As Brody and Rebecca race to solve the case, they also have to face their old feelings for one another. Their faith in tested in a number of ways as they battle ruthless killers, family emergencies and broken hearts.

Author Margaret Daley has created realistic characters that are well-developed and likeable. She has made the hero and heroine both strong and independent, but with flaws and emotions readers can relate to. Her vivid descriptions places the reader in the midst of the action.

The story moves at a good steady pace with a nice mix of highs and lows to keep you reading. There are twists along the way to keep you guessing until the shocking end.

Scorned Justice is a delightful mix of intrigue, mystery, and romance with a touch of family loyalty and faith for a good blend. Once you pick up this book, it will be hard to put it down until you know who has been scorned and how justice was served.

As an added treat, the author includes the prologue and first chapter to Book 4 in the Men of the Texas Rangers series, Severed Trust, scheduled for release in October.

FTC Full Disclosure - I requested this book as part of a virtual book tour by the author. The book was sent to me by the author/tour promoter in hopes I would review it. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review.
