Considered by many to be novelist Charlotte Brontë's finest work, Villette is the story of Lucy Snowe, a Victorian woman facing a life of tragedy and solitude with limitless courage, finding unexpected joy and transcendence along the way. Samantha Lord worked tirelessly on this screenplay adaptation of the novel as a passion project from 2014 to 2018, devoting countless hours and days to its completion, as well as several revisions. British novelist Charlotte Brontë (1816-1855) was born in Thornton, Yorkshire. She spent most of her life in the village of Haworth, eventually dying there at the age of 38. Her works include Jane Eyre (1847), Shirley (1849), Villette (1853), and The Professor (published posthumously in 1857). Samantha Lord is a freelance writer based in Ontario, Canada. This adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's brilliant novel Vilette is a stunning accomplishment. Samantha Lord has managed to capture the undertones of trauma and loss endured by Lucy Snowe. The psychological scars borne by the young protagonist are due to circumstances beyond her control. Cast in an environment suffused with patriarchal conventions, this tautly crafted screenplay merits consideration for production.
