I was never meant to be a light fae. There was too much darkness inside of me. So when I met my mate, I dove headfirst into the world of monsters and ghosts that he revealed to me.
And then he died.
Changed. Different from all the other light fae. I no longer had a place I belonged. When a night of death and danger threatened to destroy innocent supernaturals, I risked my life to stand between them and the shadow beasts who hunted the dark fae.
I never expected the beasts to take me. I never expected to find myself surrounded by the wild shifters deep in the woods. Yet, these men are not what they seem. Their touch is gentle. Their eyes devour me. And they seem hell-bent on keeping me safe from a danger I don’t understand.
But I am not the fragile fae they believe I am. I have secrets too. And when the darkness comes for us, these shadow beasts might find that I don’t need saving, but I could save them.

Dnf 5%. The blurb said to read the Royal Fae Academy series if you want to know more about the characters in this book. It did not say "this book is all about shadow beasts, and you need to read the Royal Fae Academy series to know wtf shadow beasts even are," and that warning would have been more helpful. I was picturing some sort of wolf-like animal made of smoke until suddenly one is described as a man with blonde hair and blue eyes who is capable of sign language. This was very annoying because it meant I couldn't picture anything that was happening while I was trying to get into the story. Maybe a full description was coming, but it would have been too late.
No rating because this book is probably fine if you read the other series. I'm too annoyed to backtrack to the other series and then try this book again though. Plus, it seems like the beginning of this book spoiled some important details from the other series.
This is a Spin off from another LCA series but can totally be read as a stand alone it will just add another set of books to your TBR list for later. AMAZING wold building in this one - its something this author is always good at but this one feels like its a cut above and dont get me started on the plot twists! Ann's mate was killed in an epic battle and she was abducted by the shadow beasts with out any time to grieve she is thrust into a different world with creatures that she shouldnt feel things for and then way to go kick a girl while she is down suddenly she finds out that she is the main subject of a prophecy. Wil she crumble and fall into a pit of self pitying and grief or will she rise above and kick the prophecy and shadow king in the balls - read this amazing storey to find out!
Shifter Fae Captive follows Light Fae - Ann (FMC). If youve read the Royal Fae Academy then you would have already met Ann as shes Esmeray's (the FMC in that book) brother Rayne's mate.
Ann is at the mercy of three shadow beasts - Phantom, Onyx and Dusk from the beginning and throughout this book. Theres a lot of mistrust from Ann and the guys especially with everything thats happened to all of them in the past. Its a great read with plenty of action and plot twists. That ending was just killer too! Bring on book 2
Shifter's Fae Captive is the first book in the Stolen by the Shadow Beasts series. I believe the series is a spin-off of the Royal Fae Academy series but since I haven't read that one I can't be sure, either way, I really enjoyed this one.
So get this the fae live in our world but there's another world, a shadow world, and that world has Shadow beasts (think shifters), a Shadow King who has these gruesome monsters trolls (made of dead things), red-eyed monkeys (gives me Wizard of Oz vibes) and other things. The evil king wants to take over this realm by spreading darkness and the shadow beasts have been holding him back.
Enter the fmc, Ann, who is taken by her three mates who are shadow beasts, two who are totally devoted (and twins), and the third is a brooding male. Ann's inner thoughts are: ooh, hot guys, do I really wanna go back. What she tells the guys is forget this shit and forget you too, I wanna go home. Don't really blame her, she was taken, had no say in what's happening to her and the guys are reluctant to give her answers (so annoying). So she fights the bond but spending all that time with each other, getting to know each other better and the mate bond is gonna do what a mate bond does.
Ann gets closer to the guys and while she cares and wants to help the shadow beasts it's becoming clearer that she isn't safe anywhere, particularly because she is at the center of a prophecy. Plus something happened towards the end of the book that makes me believe that things with Ann and her mates are gonna get a lot more complicated and definitely weirder.
What was that crazy ending? What did Lacey do? Talk about a couple of jaw-dropping plot twists, right at the very end too. I'm hooked now and I have to find out what's gonna happen next with Ann, the guys, and the rest of the shadow beasts.
This book picks up mainly where the Royal Fae Academy series leaves off and then takes us in a new direction into a new world.
Ann is a light fae and she has been taken by 3 shadow beasts. Dusk, Onyx, and Phantom all feel the mate bond pulling at them, though they know it would be safer to not have Ann with them, they can't leave her. While trying to keep her safe and decide what the best thing to do is, the Shadow King decides to attack and take what he wants. Will Ann be able to move on and take her place in the prophecy or is her insecurities get in the way?
The details in this book have not been skipped and the descriptions are on par with everything else I have read by Lacey. She shows us an incredible world that is filled with both wonder and devastation. The men are an incredible team that has worked out their dynamics early on- they have each others' backs and are a well-oiled machine. Anne is still recovering from heartache so she does have a bratty feel to her at some stages but you can understand why, and truthfully can't blame her for it. There are so many twists and turns in this book you will never get bored! It is the first in a new series so be prepared for a book hangover- and boy it's a doozy!
A very good start to this series. The characters hold so much promise and they had already started to show growth nearing the end. I foresee an entertaining series coming to us. This is a really good book for all RH fans of PNR that include fae and dark forces.
Alright, so this is a spin-off from a different Lacey Carter Anderson series but you do not have to have read that to understand this book! So you can read this series as a stand alone or read the other series first. (Royal Fae Academy) Either way, this book is so good! This book has phenomenal world and character building. Our FMC is Ann, and she is a light Fae who has been taken by 3 shadow beasts, Onyx, Phantom, and Dusk. This story is a wild ride with Ann and the 3 sexy, and crazy beasts. Things are constantly in the air and you never know what’s going to happen. I couldn’t put this down. I needed to know what was going to happen! I definitely recommend this story.
We are introduced to Ann in a different series and now she has her own harem of guys coming for her. They are not the guys she expects and having lost her mate, she isn't sure of them. But they are sure of her. Add in a crazy king who wants Ann for himself to fulfill a crazy prophecy and an epic cliffhanger, and you have the beginnings of an interesting series. I can't wait to see what happens next.
This is definitely a different book. I really enjoyed this book. Ann is a fae who is taken by three shadow beasts. She learns that she is their mate. The more she learns about them the more her life changes. Many enemies are after them and want her for their own. I can't wait to see where she goes with this series next. The ending has me very shocked and intrigued.
This new series from Anderson has me curious. The heroine has her ideas about things in her world. Now she has been taken away and forced to adapt. This first book set up things and the shadow beasts remind of me of others who have graced a fictional stories. There is a lot to process for Ann and she seemed to offer a lot. Curious where this will go
The unknown has fallen upon the female character, Ann. She has been taken from an academy and brought to a strange place. I'm understanding, the Void is possibly h*ll, there is Earth and some in between world? The shadow beasts are in the middle of a war and believe she is their salvation. I am left to ponder too many questions.
I did enjoy this, the shadow beasts are very cave men like (literally). It is very slow burn; you only get kisses in this book 😂 can you blame the girl? i mean she did lose her fated mate, get kidnapped and three shadow beasts claiming you are their fated mate. I would be shocked too.
(and i somehow wished i read the Royal Far Academy first, but still good nonetheless)
This is a steamy paranormal reverse harem romance with a spooky mystery, light fae, shadow beasts and wild shifters. The storyline draws you into this amazing world with it’s exciting plot and fantastic characters , secrets, darkness and good versus evil line. It’s a fantastic start and I am so excited to see where the author takes us next!
this was an interesting read. Sometimes it felt that I missed a book. With what it tells you. I really enjoyed it and the characters. Loved the writing. I can’t wait for the next book. I need more!
If you loved Lacey Carter Andersen’s Royal Fae Academy series then buckle up because you’re going to fall in love with this continuation series just as hard as Lacey has once again outdone herself with this one!!! Shifters’ Fae Captive is all about Ann’s story after RFA and the loss of her mate Rayne as she finds herself on a new adventure with the three sexy Shadow Beasts that abducted her as she embarks on a journey filled with new friends and foes, some interesting new places within the world you already know and love and of course some curveballs and revelations you may not have seen coming!
Shifters’ Fae Captive is a heartfelt story about fated mates, lost loves, new loves, rekindled passion and the strength to persevere at all odds. Ann, a light fae, is our fierce FMC with a darkness inside of her that she’s only beginning to recognize after she lost her beloved first mate, but it calls to the mysterious Shadow Beasts that abducted her as they instantly recognize her as their own fated mate—so what choice did they have other than to take what was theirs and keep her safe from the evil that lurks all around?!? Though little did they know that by doing that, they’re also introducing her to even more evil and treachery. Regardless, Phoenix, Dusk, and Onyx work hard to show Ann how much she means to them, even though some are definitely slower than the others to admit their feelings, and the strength of their chemistry makes for an amazing read as their bonds work to overcome Ann’s grief, loss and regrets.
Overall this story was an amazing read and I’m ecstatic for the rest of this series! Lacey is a true master at creating fabulous new worlds teeming with intrigue, passion, fated mates, turmoil and strife and she did not disappoint with this book! This is a slow burn RH paranormal romance that is well worth the wait as you can’t help but fall in love with these amazing characters and their intriguing story. And while it is possible to read this story before her Royal Fae Academy series and not be lost, I recommend reading RFA first if you are the type to want have everything line up beautifully and know all the past stories before embarking on this new journey. But if you love jumping into the deep end and watching a true master unravel her creation…then dive right in and grab this book now!
I enjoyed this first book in what appears to be a spinoff from a much larger world by this author! I do wish I had read/listened to the original series first so I wasn’t so in the dark for this one (and didnt get spoiled with reveals in this series) but I still overall enjoyed it and will be checking out the rest of the series.
I liked how the FMC was reluctant in the beginning with her mates because what happened in the previous series, made it harder for her to fall in love, which totally made sense. I appreciated that over the insta-love. The guys did a good job trying to show her who they were, that they were willing to put their lives on the line for her (even if some were reluctant haha). I like the different personalities of the guys. I enjoyed the powers that were shown unexpectedly by one of the characters, they just kept getting more and more intense. I do wonder why they have them but I guess that is what the prophecy is meant to be. I like how they are able to do things that none of the others can, helping them try to keep the evil Shadow King to his realm and not theirs. I will say the falling in love with some of them felt very like snap your fingers one day and poof I love you, but I guess with fated mates its par for the course. Just a personal preference, I would have preferred a little more time for their relationship to develop, the story was a little rushed to me. Overall I was engaged and I want to know more about what happens to these characters and hope to see them destroying the evil King in expert fashion.
Narration was good, this was the first time listening to anything form this narrator. I thought she did a good job bringing the characters to life. I do wish there was more of a change for the guy voices but I get its hard when its just a female narrator doing ALL the characters. I thought the emotion with the MC’s previous love was palpable, the tension between her and the guys done well, and the emotional turmoil when powers had to be discovered and used because of the dire circumstances. A solid 4 stars from me for the narration, will check out more by her in the future.
Good beginning for this serie but some things are missing in my opinion...
This book tells the story of Ann, a light fae (but maybe more...?), and of her kidnappers, three shadow beasts. The story is a multiple POV RH rejected mate. Ann is kidnapped without knowing why until the three shadow beasts revealed to her that she's their mates and that a prophecy predicts that her mating with them will save the world...easy... Well, the problem is that Ann has already had a mate, Rayne, but he died so it's impossible that these guys are her mates. Then, there is this prophecy and Ann would never mate only for the sake of people she despised, they kidnapped her, and moreover their story about a shadow king and destroying the world doesn't make sense...does it?
I like the point of view of the author about the rejected mate thing. It's new for me and as I usually don't read rejected mate romance, this book suits me well. But I think there is a big lack in the world building. I still don't undersand how their world works between fae, humans, shadow beasts, etc. It's not really explained and it seems that the shadow beasts live in a totally different world but still have the fate of the humanity in their hands...🧐 Then, the slowly building connection between Ann and the guys isn't very well described and suddenly, she's in love with them??? Steps are lacking here, no?
After this book, I'm still not totally convinced by this story. I'm sure the next book will bring more information but I'm not sure I will buy the new development with the guys... I see!
Shifter's Fae Captive is the first book in Lacey Carter Andersen's Stolen by Shadow Beasts series and is a spin off of her Royal Fae Academy series. This book is Ann's story and I am excited for it. When the last series ended with Ann missing and someone seeing her being taken by the Shadow Beasts I knew that I needed to have her story and find out what happens to her. This book picks up where things left off - Ann has been abducted and taken by the Shadow Beasts, but it's because she's their mate. They knew it the moment that they saw her and the mate bond would not let them walk away. Ann is in denial, because she had a mate, and he's dead. All she wants is to go home, even after the men tell her the dangers that wait her out there. There is a lot of back and forth in this book. Ann does get a bit annoying, because she is so determined to get away from them. I view as that she's not thinking. She's willing to put those who care about her and vice versa in danger just so that she can say "well, at least I'm home?" I always have a problem when characters are selfish. Of course, the dynamics between the men are interesting as well. Two want her to stay with them, while one is like "send her back, she's in the way." The storyline is interesting, but I do feel that it's a bit rushed in places, but I enjoyed it overall. I'm rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. Looking forward to the next book!
So do you remember the Royal Fae Academy, well this is a spin off for sure. Remember Ann who happen to have been Prince Rayne's mate. Well we get her story here, and if you don't remember, you will get a recap. Her upbringing is not an easy one. She has a cruel stepfather for sure. Although one night she is taken by three shadow beast. Is she scared? Why yes and she wants to go home. However, I do love that she tries to rationalize things. There is an added mystery as to what she is hiding. It has something to do with her mothers side. So I hope we get more information than what we got. Now these shadow beast has a language of their own. She cannot understand, but the beast fixes that dilemma. Then things start to happen and she has no idea but gets a sense that it is the right thing. The beast tell her she is their mate and that does not sit well with Ann. I mean who would blame her. She lost a mate and she does not want to go through with that loss again. She fights all the attraction and the chemistry with these guys. Because of this, it causes some issues. Then we have the Shadow King. Lets not get started on the b-hole. I was definitely into the book and then I got to the end and was like dang it. I should have known better. With all the twist coming at you, we don't see that cliffy coming. Now we wait.
DNF - quit at 10% Well, this has no world building to ground this reader in as to where the plot might be heading. Suddenly (in chapter 1), the FMC is over the back of a dude’s shoulder being kidnapped from some war or something, then she’s developing Stockholm syndrome & starts to think the 3 guys that snatched her are good looking… I just can’t get behind writing that is so confusing. Where are they- maybe the fae realm, what war, what academy, who are the 3 shadow beasts, & what are shadow beasts, who is she? These are among the lists of questions started in my brain that left me frustrated& ultimately not caring to keep reading since I didn’t understand what the heck was going on. If this is book 1 of a series, it should start off with a bit of world building of some sort, even if this is split off another series (& I suspect it is but don’t care to check into it) the writer shouldn’t assume that new readers have read that other series, or you end up losing readers like me, who will now not want to read anything you’ve written! I got this free from Amazon, but am deleting it from my Kindle library & making notation to avoid this author in the future.
At my age (60), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read
Immediately no and I do not know what this people are on but these cannot be read as standalone because you will not understand a thing. DNF at 31%
I read the book prior to this one that is titled Fae Secrets 0.5 which was supposed to give you the context to the story, I don’t know if I read it wrong but I didn’t understand that you needed to read another whole series in order to understand this one so we passed from the book 0.5 describing how she meets her mate but, in the next book the make is dead, she is kidnapped, she saved her sister-in-law (when she didn’t know Jack shit before and there is a battle), now apparently she has multiple fathers that adore her when previously was stated that they were only two men, one of them was her stepfather who beat her and another one who was just friends with her mother and in the same chapter where she is lamenting her mate death but she is also lusting after three best whom at the beginning are described us little bit more than animals?
The start was a little confusing, took time to find my way. Didn’t realise it was a spin-off, continuation from another series.
Did eventually figure most of it out. But still don’t know why their called shadow beasts…? They don’t change shape, don’t turn into shadows .. are just extra large, fast and strong.
Didn’t like the FMC all that much. She was often immature, selfish, and arrogant. I understood the reasons behind her hesitation and issues, but the story pushed her arrogance and immature response more, making it hard to remember and focus on the more acceptable and palatable.
The men were very interesting, only slightly formulaic, their flaws mostly believable and acceptable.
Really, really, enjoyed the plot. Just wished we had spent more time and detail developing it, rather than the angst that was repeated needlessly. The same issues, same responses, same conversations. It felt like we were going in circles at times… Needs a good editing.
But the underlying story is sooo worth it, so 🤷♀️ Onwards we go.
This book is a follow up/spin off to the Royal Fae Academy series, this time focussing on Ann. You don't need to have read the previous series to read this one, although it's worth it! Just know that a power struggle between light and dark fae led to the death of Ann's mate, Rayne, and a battle where his sister and her mates were victorious, and Ann was captured by shadow beasts. This book picks up right as that one ends. There's a lot of character and world building here, establishing who and what this new race of supes are, and why they want Ann. She's never really had a chance to deal with her grief over Rayne, so having three strangers claim she's their mate obviously doesn't sit well! Their interactions and growing relationships are believable, as are Ann's reactions to her growing powers and what they could mean. The book is part one of a series and ends on a double cliffhanger. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "SHIFTER'S FAE CAPTIVE" What an amazing unique, intriguing, captivating, thrilling, exciting, intense drama, with steam, angst, kidnapping, twists that have you in the edge of your seat such a page turner. Ann a light Fae is kidnapped by three shadow beasts she calls Daddy, Tiny & Fluffy she learns their her mates, still greiving her first mate Rayne that died she finds out more about her world that she didn't know about from them. There's an evil that wants to destroy the Fae & humans Ann, Phantom his twin Dusk & Onyx with their bond as mates are meant to save the world. I definitely recommend to get this amazing story that pulls you right into all the chaos, the Shadow King evil ruler of the Void, the mind blowing cliffhanger, OMG!!! I can't wait for the next book to get answers to what's going to happen in this series "SHIFTER'S SECRET SIN" can't come soon enough.
I was never meant to be a light fae. There was too much darkness inside of me. So when I met my mate, I dove headfirst into the world of monsters and ghosts that he revealed to me. And then he died. Changed. Different from all the other light fae. I no longer had a place I belonged. I have been waiting to read Ann's story with the shadow beasts since finishing Skyler's fantastic Royal Fae Academy and this book does not disappoint.
I was sucked in from the very first page and taken on a fantastic journey the characters have depth and you feel like you can relate to their feelings and what they are trying to achieve, The world building pulls you into their world perfectly so much so that you feel as though you have been there. Ann really grew throughout the book and although her heart belongs to her first mate Rayne she does slowly start to fall for Phantom,Dusk and Onyx.
This book is packed full of adventure with some great twists and turns that will take you on and emotional roller coaster ride that will leave you gasping at the you can't seriously end it there! Cliffhanger of an ending.
Bring on book 2 I for one can not wait to read more of this series.
This spinoff series started out with a bang, and just like all of Laceys books, draws you in from the start. This book starts where Royal Fae Academy left off with Ann’s kidnapping, and is just as action packed, intense and mysterious as the original series. I’ve been hoping Lacey would write Ann’s story since reading it, and was not disappointed in the least. The characters are diverse and flawed, making them believable, and relatable, and I love that one even has a hearing disability. The detail behind it makes it seem like the author did very thorough research, or even knows someone with that disability. There’s so much that happens in this book that is important, that it’s hard to discuss any of my favorite things without giving away spoilers. However, The ending has 2 big surprises that ripped me through totally different emotions for each one. I’m super stoked for the next book.
Like another series I read by this author I felt a little lost at the beginning feeling I had missed some of the story. I have now realised that this series (like last time) is a spin off from another series and these events follow that but even without that I quickly got into the story and found it really exciting. At the opening of the story Ann the main female character is being carried away by shadow beasts. She thinks they want to kill her but it quickly becomes clear that the 3 shadow beasts only want to protect her as they say she is their mate! There is a prophecy surrounding Ann, which makes her a very attractive prospect for many people but who if anybody will win her heart? I'm afraid you won't find out in this book as we end on a bit of a cliffhanger but it is a series that I will carry on with and look forward to the next book
This book starts where the Royal Fae Academy series left off, so if you haven't read the RFA series yet, I highly recommend reading it before you start this series. Ann finds herself in a new, scary situation with three shadow beasts who proclaim themselves her mates. Not feeling the mating bond, she and her three men start an adventure of their own fighting the Void and the creatures who come out at night for the nefarious reasons of the corrupted King. She finds not only new strength, but new powers. This is an intriguing book set in a world of good against evil, greed against the common good and both the story line and the characters pull you in and keep you reading and leave you wanting to read the next book in the series.
Ann is this amazing young fae girl who finds herself stolen/kidnapped by 3 Shadow Beasts; running thought the forest not understanding a word they are saying and thrown into a war that she wants no part of. Eventually things shift and an understanding happens but can they survive the Shadow King and bring peace to the world? Is she truly allowed to mourn her one true mate and find three more who will cherish her just as much? And who is this mysterious sleeping man that she feels so drawn too? I mean he is sleeping so its not like they have spoken or anything????? The ending leaves you in a state of WTF and you need more, you as a read have this need to find out what happens next. I love books like this, they get hooked and keep you coming back. Yay...
