What’s one thing you should never do? Fall for your childhood best friend… Especially if he’s charming, mysterious and perfect in every way.
I planned to spend the summer before my senior year suntanning on the beaches of Portugal. Unfortunately, my parents have other ideas -- they’ve sent me to work at the family hotel. Instead of lying on white sand beaches, I’ll be trapped in the mountains.
It’s the worst punishment I can think of. Or at least, it seems that way until I see HIM.
Noah Sawyer. Tall. Gorgeous. And mysterious. He’s Edendale High’s resident heart throb, and he’s also my former best friend. We haven’t talked after what happened three years ago, but fate has brought us together again.
It might be the last summer we ever spend together.
Three years ago, I wanted to kiss him, but couldn’t.
Sara Jane Woodley is a Sweet Romance author who is obsessed with Happily Ever Afters!
Inspired by the mountains, Sara Jane writes love stories set in the beautiful nature she hikes, bikes and skis in. Her clean romance books always feature sassy, strong female heroines and fun-filled, playful relationships.
Bree is a wild soul who's passionate about scary movies, fruit roll ups, and chasing storms. Noah is a workaholic and a writer struggling to find the words to put to the page. The quirks and traits of the characters were unlike any I've read before, and Bree's and Noah's personalities were entertaining separately and blended together perfectly, like coffee and cream. It was a pleasant surprise and great to read.
I liked both leading characters and was amazed how deeply I related to both of them for vastly different reasons. They're like two individual parts of my own personality, and that really helped draw me into the story.
The fact that Bree and Noah had once been the closest childhood friends but had gone their separate ways was different than most stories I know playing on the friends-to-loves trope. I enjoyed learning about their lives before, how they grew apart, watching them reconnect, and, of course, fall in love.
The only things I ended up not liking was the misunderstandings and assumptions that occurred and the lack of communication in some interactions. Bree also never really shares her fears and hesitations with Noah, but at the end, those things suddenly didn't seem to matter to her.
But, misunderstandings are just a pet peeve of mine anyway, one I can't stand in any story, so don't let my few complaints deter you from picking up this book. With plenty of lines in it to make you chuckle, moments to make your heart skip a beat, and emotional scenes to tug at your heartstrings, this book is definitely worth the read.
I look forward to reading the rest of this series!
This book is absolute bliss. It’s a classic idea but such a good twist. I mean, like this could be turned into a movie!
The story follows Noah and Bree. They used to be best friends. Bree’s parents own a bunch of small-town inns. That’s where they meet; Legacy Inn. They also lived near each other so they got to see the other a lot. For some reason, they had a falling out and both of them kind of avoided each other. At the same time, Noah’s mother passed away from cancer forcing him to start earning money along with his family to support his sisters. Now they meet again at Legacy Inn. They easily fall into the routine fo being friends again. Noah’s father told him to go on this trip because he has been working too much. Bree’s parents send her here after she fails a class. Bree was supposed to go to Portugal so when she hears that she has to go to Legacy, she wants to rebel. Once she reaches, Delia doesn’t let her go. Then she bumps into Noah. And that’s where the fun starts.
The characters were all so amazing. Each one had a background story even if they didn’t come into the story all too much. I did read the first book in this series but the best part id that you don’t have to read it. Though I would recommend it because it is amazing. The pain and insecurities in this novel have been wonderfully portrayed. There are no loose ends and it makes me happy that there are books such as this one out there. If you like Sarah Dessen or Kasie West, then you surely will like this one. It’s also devoid of mature scenes and displeasing language. I love the idea of friendship, love, and liberty in this novel. Each person has some hidden meaning behind them. Delia is happiness. Fernando is love. (Who doesn’t love food?) And there are so many more. I would recommend this to anyone at all, to be honest.
I wrote this voluntary review in exchange for an ARC copy.
This was my first book I ever read (besides two manga I randomly found at the library and decided it would be cool for those to be my first actual read). I definitely enjoyed it, I just didn't like the romance type, if that makes sense. I'd prefer fantasy romance but this was the first book I ever read so ... I still enjoyed it and would recommend it to someone who likes more cute, fluffy, and funny romance books. It's just not my absolute favorite.
If I connected with any of the characters, it would be Noah and I think the character's name was Fernando? (the one in the kitchen with Noah). I mainly like them because they are funny and just goofy in a good way, not annoying. I also like how Fernando would try to make Bree and Noah date, which is so cute.
I am definitely going to read the rest of the series (The Summer I Fell for My Fake Boyfriend, The Summer I Fell for a Billionaire, and The Summer I Fell for My Enemy). All of them sound like I'll enjoy them, but I guess I'll have to find out!

The Summer I fell for my best friend was definitely good, but it felt like it was missing…something. I won’t be reading the next one, but I recommend this sweet Summer romance novel.
This was so adorable! I have never been more grateful for Kindle recommendations!🤣 Even though I didn’t connect with any of the characters, you can bet I will be reading the rest of the series! Sara is SUCH a good author!
The story was okay. I did like how the main character was trying to find herself. It is a good clean read. So if you or someone you know needs a book with clean language and story this is your book.
3 ⭐️ idk how I feel about this book. It was so fast paced and yeah. There was some cute lines and there was no spice. This was a good book though, just not one of my favs
This book took me forever to read. Four months to the day. Wow! That had to do with college, graduating, moving, having to find a place to live, moving again (still in the process), and lastly, this book got boring. I liked it most the way through, the last 30 percent of the book though dragged. Honestly, I was waiting for Noah and Bree to get together, then they did, then I didn’t care. Let’s get into it.
The first 70 percent of this book was super cute. It was innocent and sweet and something I would recommend to a younger reader, like middle school aged or start of high school. You will find no mature themes, only fluffy first love feelings. It was sweet, really. I’m not the intended audience for this book and I’m not going to be too harsh on it. I liked it, I would even recommend this to someone who wants a light sweet romance that doesn’t dive into anything too heavy.
So what’s wrong with it? It just got to be too boring. I liked Bree, I rooted for Bree to grow and become a better person. Noah was alright, honestly I didn’t feel as much as a connection with him because I feel not as much went into developing him as a character. These two would have made a really cute short story or at least a story that was like 50 pages shorter. There was so many random scenes in this book that didn’t do anything for the story overall. It was boring. I didn’t even want to finish this book at one point but I had already put so much into it.
In the end, I’m glad I got to see Bree grow and do things for herself. I really did like her as a character. She got on my nerves sometimes, but I wanted to see her happy so it was nice seeing how things worked out in the end with her mom and of course Noah. I think this book tried to be too dramatic sometimes, but it’s something that I think would be okay with the intended audience of this book.
Overall I’m giving it three stars. I think it’s a great book for a younger audience and that is just not me anymore. It loses points because I think it got to be boring and over dramatic at points, but I know there are other people out there that would really enjoy this book. It was fun checking out a new author, not sure I’ll ever bother to pick up another one of her books though.

First things first, as someone who loves storms, I LOVE that this book centers around a love for storm chasing as a hobby and for a girl too! The realism in the metaphor that the storm represents her life and choices is amazing.
It is also refreshing to read a YA that takes place over summer break. While I do enjoy my typical school year ones when I dabble in YA, I like breaking free of the school models once in a while for new perspectives.
With YA comes angst but I felt that Bree’s angst was slightly overdone. Not terrible but I think it was stretched in order to keep tension going in places that I don’t necessarily saw fit.
Overall, as a new author this was a refreshing take on YA and I’ll likely read the others in this series. The characters were charming and well written. They each had their own distinct personalities and as such, came across beautifully. The storyline was predictable as most YA romances are but wasn’t annoying in that regard by any means and I enjoyed the parallels I found throughout the novel between the two main characters.
My grandsugar Gabriella read this book an this is her review: A girl named Bree and a boy named Noah were very close growing up. Noah's mom was ill and they didn't see each other for three years. Noah went to work at Legacy Inn. Bree worked at Legacy Inn too but was angry that she was there. Because she wasn't doing great in school, her parents made her get a job instead of taking her on vacation with them. Eventually Bree began to like working there and she and Noah became close again. They both liked storm chasing. The fell in love and realized what home really was, it was them...together. Bree developed a stronger relationship with her family because of having Noah in her life and Noah started writing again because Bree was back in his life. I was captured by the first chapter of the book. This was a real page turner and a must read.
So far, it’s very monotonous. They do the same thing every day. same stories. at first it was really cute because they were friends when they were kids and now it’s like I’m on page on 157 and waiting for something different to happen. Bri is very selfish and immature. A storm chasing elements are fun, but that’s about it. The characters lack depth. They are definitely polar opposites, but it doesn’t work to her advantage. so far there isn’t really drama or like an arch in the story we shall see.
Guessing…. She’s gonna do something dumb and abandon everyone, but we shall see
If you can’t ask your person a question without losing them why are you together?
“ Something is bothering her and I want to find out what. But, I also know Bree. I can’t push her too hard or I might lose her forever.”
I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this story about Noah and Aubrey/Bree. There story begins with Bree getting into trouble and left home from the family's european vacation, and finding out she will be working at the inn all summer. She thinks she can skip out but when she gets there Dalia needs her help. Noah is working two jobs to help his dad make ends meet. But he encourages him to go with at the inn so he can relax some. Noah and Bree were best friends but three years ago a misunderstanding left them at odds. Now they are working together and old feelings are springing up again. Chasing storms reignites their friendship. The beginnings of an HEA to last lifetime.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was such a fun one to read! The story was interesting and I don’t know that I’ve ever read one with storm chasing in it before! I also liked that it took place at an inn over the summer; I like reading YA novels, and don’t mind when they take place in the school, but it was fun to read one that took place over summer break.
I loved the deeper themes of responsibility throughout this story. What happens when the girl who has always been labeled as irresponsible and the boy who is overly responsible fall for each other? You will have to read this book to find out, but I can promise you will enjoy it!
I’m looking forward to reading more books by this author!
The first volume of the Legacy Inn series by Sara Jane Woodley is a cute, predictable love story. Generic, but sometimes fun, this book unfortunately has no twists or turns. The author overuses phrases like, “My cheeks (or face) hurt from smiling (or laughing) so much,” to describe several dates between the protagonists: two best friends since youth who find each other again three years after something “mysteriously” separates them. I found the author’s attempts at humor a bit corny, the female lead unlikeable at first, and the plot unimaginative. That said, I did keep reading until the end to find out what happened between the main characters. Basically, it’s a pleasant read, with no surprises.
This book was very interesting and a sweet romance. I couldn’t put it down and finished it to quick!
My positives, the characters were portrayed and I could relate to them and felt as if I was part of the story.
My negatives, the ending with the characters getting back together seemed off to me, I would have enjoyed a more dramatic get together. The passion described between the 2 seemed to be not showed or not real based on their get together.
Along with the constant reminder of the 2’s passion for each other it made the story seem fake, I know it is but…, I feel like this book could have had more cute moments shown rather than only hearing the characters feelings for each through their inside thoughts.
Overall I enjoyed this book, it seems I have always read books about the bad boy with the good girl, I enjoyed the switch making the story original and unique.

"I love you, Bree. Even my mom knew it." “I didn’t think people like you existed — especially for a girl like me. You’re my home, Noah, you’ve always been my home. I love you, too.” . .
“Without you,” Noah says quietly. “I couldn’t have written this novel, couldn’t have pictured my future. I love you and I will always love you. I’ll follow you across the world if that’s where you want to go.” . . . What a beautiful young love story. There was so much emotion in these 230 pages. I laughed and cried.
YA books have a special place in my heart, especially ones with summer love. There's just something so pure about it that makes my heart happy. ❤️ . . . #younglove #yabooks #youngadult #summerlove #teenlove #hea #books #readinglove #bookreview #bookrecommendation
Hoo-wee! This book was a blast! The storm-chasing elements were extravagant and really made me want to continue reading this novel. Wow! I'm speechless! I love how Noah and Aubrey were platonic friends. I understood how soulmates do not have to be romantic. It reminded me of my friends of highschool. There was this one jock in my clique, he was the bee's knees if you know what I'm saying! Anyhoo, enough about me. When they got stuck in the tornado, it really put Aubrey and Noah in a life-or-death situation. Sara Jane Woodley, this book exceeded my expectations. Keep writing books like this! You rock. My book club loved reading this one; do recommend!
very cute! the sweet, familiar story of two friends falling in love felt a bit more original with bree and noah’s personalities, their setting and family struggles, which i appreciated and enjoyed!
i felt a bit like noah was too good for bree, but she’s also so sweet and hurting and kind that you can’t help but have that extra patience for her, and it was tough seeing her learn all those lessons and growing through them.
The Legacy series is amazing. I read a lot of serials but I've never encountered 4 books which occur concurrently. Yet the author fives nothing away in each about the other leaving each fresh and inviting. Ms. Woodley taps into the fears, insecurities, and inherent ability we have to misunderstand each other in any personal relationship. As I approach the climax of her books, I find my heart racing, hands tingling, and eyes watering. And it feels good. I enjoy all of her works and highly recommend them.
I felt like the book needed more. It was too rushed. I enjoyed the characters, but they still needed more depth. There wasn’t much drama. Not that a book always needs it, but the ending was rushed and I wanted to see them grow more being back in her area. Especially, her parents. Even though they had a conversation it still felt eh. I feel bad giving a poor review. Dear author keep writing. Just because I didn’t like this book won’t mean I won’t read others.
The book was an easy read and mostly predictable. The characters were not easy to relate to because Bree was irresponsible and whiny throughout. Noah was super sweet though. I did like how storm chasing was brought into the romance as something they both had in common and that was well written. The plot was rushed at times but slow at others. It is a good YA read for anyone who just want a quick book.
