Cowboy Biker MC #6 is another book in Esther E. Schmidt’s series of the same name. In this series, Ms. Schmidt picks up the story of Alfie and Joaquin. Although Alfie claimed Joaquin as his, there relationship is incomplete. They need a woman to complete the relationship. The story opens with Alfie recuperating from his injuries sustained in Book #5. His covering is slower causing Joaquin to look for a female caregiver. This is where Ms. Schmidt introduces Greta, a rookie undercover DEA agent on an undercover assignment investigating the Cowboy Bikers. It does not take long for Alfie to suspect that Greta is hiding something. He contacts Weston, the MC president to alert him. Meanwhile Greta reports to her superior that there is no evidence of foul play, but he is not buying it. Greedily eyeing a promotion, he blackmails her into planting false evidence so he can come in and make arrests. Doing so, guarantees his promotion. If Greta gets hurt in the process so be it; it would just be collateral damage. Will Greta do as she is ordered? Does she develop a connection to Alfie and Joaquin? If so, will they find happiness? What happens to her superior? To discover the answers to these questions, you must read this book.
I enjoyed this romantic suspense story. Ms. Schmidt respectfully handles a nontraditional polyamorous relationship. In doing so, she allows readers to broaden their reading options. I also enjoyed how she connected this book to the first book in the series. In that book, Alfie and Joaquin were supporting characters. In this book, they are the lead characters. I appreciate that Ms. Schmidt creates multi-layer characters. Alfie appears to be crude and potty mouthed, but no one knows he is wealthy. He is an alpha. Joaquin is gentler but not a push over. He softens the roughness of Alfie. Greta is focused, brave, and independent. Her sense of duty and conscious keeps her in check. When the three of them are together sparks fly electrifying the air. I enjoyed Ms. Schmidt’s well-crafted conversational and internal dialog. I liked how she told this story through a three-person point of view—Greta, Alfie, and Joaquin. It allows readers to get a clearer look at their true personalities. This romantic suspense story grabbed my attention from the onset.
