I thought this was an excellent entry in this time travel romance series. Carissa and Hugh were both very likable and I thought they made a very good couple. I enjoyed their connection and chemistry. The storyline delivers a engaging blend of emotion, drama, adventure, tension, suspense and danger. I am choosing to post a unbiased review.

I hate to give it a low rating but I just didn’t feel like the story was up to par compared to the last two. Also I really like having the perspective of both the female and male leads in the stories but that didn’t happen in this one which was a tad disappointing.

I was blown away by Carissa's character. I really appreciated the details of her mental illness: her depression. It brought a new clarity to me to understand anyone who suffers from such a debilitating illness. I was glad the author took a gamble on developing Carissa's character. I feel it was a wise choice and I am extremely grateful to have an insider view of how depression affects someone. I know the author is not a medical doctor but I have read enough on the subject and listened to news documentaries to know that none of this was fabricated.

I enjoyed how Carissa wished for a change and through magic she was granted a new life. Unlike the previous books where the women who came through the magic door had a hard time adjusting, Carissa was like a fish to water. She completely embraced her new circumstances.

Another reviewer brought up some excellent points on how this book differed from the first two books and I agree they were not consistent. But it the overall scheme of things I felt it hardly mattered. My focus was not on the differences but the subject matter and the romance. It is a very good book, a wonderful read minding the differences and I do recommend it.

I absolutely loved books 1 and 2 in this series, but I was actually disappointed with this one. I'm right about to read the 4th book, but I figured I would voice my opinion before I forget why I thought what I did. I started off thinking all good things - we have a character who is open to magic and I can relate to since she's a romantic with depression. But things went kind of south when I noticed an odd plot hole - her phone disappeared and our two previous FMC acted like it was normal?! This made no sense to me since the whole GoPro situation (BIG part of the first book) or checking phones for signal... now all of the sudden "oh I guess you can't carry that through"?

Nevertheless, I kept reading as I was excited for Hugh to have a person and Carissa to explore the magical side of our Highland Universe. By the time I finished the book, I felt unsettled or unfulfilled. I felt like the characters didn't have as much depth as characters did in the first two books, that we didn't get much detail on their falling for each other, and the climax barely felt there because of the lack of umph in the rising action. You're left with an "oh, okay I guess" kind of feeling.

A journey into another time is just what she needed. Carissa won a trip to Scotland and just before she is about to leave she finds out her boyfriend of two years has cheated on her and now she’s depressed. She has always suffered from depression and all she wants to do is sleep her life away. But her mother encourages her to go and on her first day she goes to see the ruins of Dunscaith Castle. She goes through a small doorway and finds herself several hundreds of years in the past and the castle no longer a ruins and fully occupied. She meets Hugh the stablemaster and two other women who have come from the future. But instead of being afraid and scared this is just what she needed. A new life away from her depressed unhappy one. Can she start over and make a happy life in medieval Scotland? I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review

Although not normally a huge fan of time travel stories, Rebecca Preston has captured me with this series A Highlander Across Time. Each H/h is well written, interesting, compelling characters and they have smoldering chemistry. Carissa Knox mending from a bad relationship is thrown back in time to medieval Scotland where she meets Hugh Macleod, the castle stable master, son, brother, and overall gentle man. Carissa is befriended by Hugh's entire family, but when a lies are told and he and his family feel they've been betrayed, they turn away from her. How she goes about redeeming herself to not only Hugh and his family, but the entire castle, is a well crafted, fast paced read. Another good one!

They will fight together for their future.
You just never know what is going to happen when you open a door. What is on the other side could be good or bad. Then perhaps it may lead you to another life. This is what Carissa Knox has ahead of her a trip to Scotland will lead her to meet Hugh Macleod a rather old fashion gentleman. Now Hugh has a secret one that could damn him to death if known. This time-travel romantic thriller was so engaging I loved every minute I spent reading it. The characters were great and had real depth. If you like time-travel mixed with Scottish flair then this is a must-read for you. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

Carissa wins a trip to Scotland and is happy to get away since her heart had been broken. She finds a hidden door and finds Hugh. They hit it off and are learning things about each other and she learns his mother is a witch. The witch fever is around and they have to fight for what they want. I love time travel and this one does it right. I was impressed with the characters and how they interacted coming from different time periods. The story was a good one and with the witch added in it was great. Highly recommend this book if you like time travel.

Carrisa, A poet and in need of a vacation to regroup from a heartbreak and new experiences for new material. How she goes trough a door and end up in time is the work of some powerful beings. Hugh, the stablemaster might have enough love power to have summoned her there just for him. HMMMM but in the time of science and magic are the same if it can't be explained someone is in trouble. Those who are afraid ruin. So... a slip of the tongue in conversation can spark some smoke leading to flames. Work it out my friends. Love is at the stables

Carissa was melancholic and depressed with her life and wrote poems during her lowest times. One of her poems won her a vacation to Scotland Hugh was the stable master of the castle and was being harassed by one of the serving girls in the castle. Carissa passed through a door in the ruins of a castle while on a tour on her vacation and ended up in medieval Scotland. Carissa and Hugh’s fun and exciting romance was full of intrigue, mystery, danger, heartache, betrayal, lies and love while trying to find a way to have a relationship between them. Fun read

Great story. Carissa is heartbroken and when a hidden door leads her to the past, she is happy that’s the opportunity has presented itself. She doesn’t recognize the danger and witch hunters are on the rise. Hugh MacLeod is fascinated by the woman from the future and they two become fast friends while looking forward to more. But dangers face both of them and their secrets could be deadly. Great character development and a fast paced story. I was cheering for them to find their HEA in spite of the obstacles. This is part of the series but works as a standalone (but you are missing out if you don’t pick up the other books.)

Depressed and with no desire to move on, a hope opened up for Clarissa Knorx. Going through the door to the past and leaving responsibilities behind seemed the right thing to do, what she needed. But her attraction to Hugh MacLeod, her appreciation for people, and her desire to belong and learn were clouded by malice. I liked how Clarissa got stronger in the past and how she coped with the problem that was threatening her happiness. Suspense, intrigue, spells, romance and passion. Liked this interesting and entertaining book.

This is the 3rd book in the series and it is just as wonderful as the ones before it. A trip to Scotland and a door to the past could be the new beginning that Carissa needs. She meets Hugh and there is a connection from the moment they meet. It is a dangerous time in Scotland and they both have secrets that put them in danger. This story is well written with great characters. In addition to the romance there is suspense, drama and witchcraft. I really enjoyed this book and it had my attention right from the beginning.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is the third book in the Highlander Across Time series. It was a really good romance between Carissa and Hugh. She found herself thrown back in time to medieval Scotland. There she meets Hugh and realizes that her life might be complete with him. This book had lust, love, drama and suspense. I thought the characters were perfect for each other. They had great chemistry.

This book in the series left me confused and not satisfied. It turns out this a slightly different series from the other two books I had read - same author, same setting and related stories. Which is why I couldn't recall other travellers arriving by a doorway, all the travellers (so far) in this series arrive via a door in the bottom of a castle.
I didn't like this one as much, as the characters aren't very complex, the romance predictable and the magick not as prevalent.

Another great book in this series. Was wondering what was going to be the problem that she was going to be solving, as a poet I couldn't see it at first, bit of a red herring there. Found this book a bit emotional as I have had a bit to do with bullies. Loved the happy ending.

Hold A Highlander

When Carissa entered the small door that took her back in time she was happy. First she met Hugh and a horse. She fell in love with Hugh and he her but there was a young girl that made trouble for them. Hugh’s mother is a witch and taught Clarissa the tricks and trade. Now Carissa is also a witch.
