The E-Sports Circle’s Toxic Assembly Camp

Rate this book
Chief tactician Lin Yan entered an e-sports novel. At this time, there was still a whole year to go before the original plot started.

The big devil who would frighten people in the future was still a thin-skinned little anchor; the disaster who once disturbed the e-sports circle was playing as an accompanying player; the best healer was sitting on the cold bench of a third-rate team; the strongest king at shooting his mouth off offended the media and his black materials were flying all over the place…

They would shine as the plot progressed but unfortunately, their teams weren’t strong enough. In the end, they couldn’t escape the fate of a cannon fodder.

Lin Yan couldn’t bear to see these talents being wasted. The e-sports professional reality show started and he spent money to set up the GH Club, moving from east to west to select his team.

The variety fans: ??? Is this ‘Go Home’ team picking up the junk?

This lasted until all the opponents were coughing up blood at GH’s tactics and could only watch GH get a ticket to the professional league.

The entire e-sports circle knew that apart from their captain Jing Yuanzhou, the entire GH team was a group of barely qualified variety show players not worth paying attention to. As a result, this toxic team swept through the field and reached the top in their first year of the league.

When the media interviewed GH: Captain Jing, why did you agree to Coach Lin and joined GH?

Jing Yuanzhou: He pestered me every day saying ‘I want you’. It was really difficult to turn down such great kindness.

Lin Yan: “???”

Check the salary deduction warning.

The entire Internet went crazy: Parental love is real!!!

★★★★★ [4.5/5 stars]

Not gonna lie, I'm totally so into e-sports BL now. It's not surprising that I enjoyed this novel so much, just like how I enjoyed reading ICDI because they definitely have the same vibe, from the e-sports aspect to the humour, great teamwork and of course, the fluffy, fuzzy romance between the MC and the ML.

I would have given this a 5 star rating just like ICDI because I loved everything about this novel. The only thing that made me cut off a half point is because of the 'transmigration' part. I mean, you would have easily overlooked that the MC actually transmigrated because he was already in the 'other world' from the beginning and the mention of him transmigrating was only like a paragraph or two. There was no explanation about it, no 'how' and 'why' it happened and it was like the transmigration was there just for the sake of having it there, no explained reason. The flow of the story can be done without the transmigration part, but it's not unpleasant. I just feel like it's unnecessary.

But overall, there's nothing negative I can say. I loved how the author concluded the ending. The ML finally got the rest he deserved after playing (mistreated) for years, and how the MC fully supported him with his decision. The ending has the best retirement outcome he could have, and I can totally understand his softness towards the MC because if there's no MC, he could have stayed being wronged in his old team and retired with so much regret. He received the warmth he needed. I just love this couple so much, their distinct personalities and how their relationship progressed. The ambiguity of their relationship in the beginning was also so hilarious.

I highly recommended this novel so much. It's just a light read, no angst and unnecessary drama, full of fluffy and heartwarming moments. You'll find yourself laughing so hard one moment, then suddenly stuffed with so much dog food a moment later. Go read this!!!

A very solid and detailed novel that centers on e-sports industry with romance of course.😄

Lin Yan transmigrated to a novel that features the MOBA game that he is familiar with. With his knowledge on the novel's plot and his previous skill as a game tactician, Lin Yan created his own team GH which means Go Home.😅

I love how the author explore the ins and outs of the e-sports industry. The hardships, techniques, fans, winning and losing and the life of an e-sports athlete.

The story mainly revolve with Lin Yan as he used his previous life's skills to coach his GH team to the World stage. Also he met Jing Yuanzhou who has a somewhat tragic life on the novel and made him the strongest pillar of the GH team.

I can say that this novel is more plot driven. The characters where unique and they have their own back stories. But I was really more focused on their road to the World Championship.

I love each stage of the tournament. I love how the team grew up from a seemingly randomly patched up team to finally achieving their dream of bagging the world title.

There is romance but it did not overwhelm the plot. It actually added a dimension to this story.

I love this. Recommended.❤👍

I loved this one from start to finish. Other reviewers mentioned that the transmigration part wasn’t really explained and also didn’t play the most important role, but that didn’t really matter to me. I just loved Lin Yan from meeting him for the first time (what a fun entry into a novel 😂). I also loved that he was a tactical genius on top of his knowledge about the different players.

Jing Yuanzhou definitely deserved all the attention and love he got and he was such a great ML. When they both got angry on behalf of the other… gosh, that created so many awesome scenes.

The game was fun too. As a person who’s not a gamer but loves e-sports novels it felt closely related to League of Legends. The game show competition was a great add on to the usual league and world championship plot. I also loved how this team was made up by people who needed a second or first chance and got it.

The baggage each of the G(o) H(ome) players carried with them was super intriguing and it didn’t just felt like a two person show. Even the players from other teams felt more fleshed out than in the other e-sports novels I’ve read so far.

Last but not least. The author’s name is wonderful (in Mandarin and the shortened English version). It made me smile whenever I entered my reading app. Tbh, I’m very curious about their other works.

Another great e-sports novel for me 😫. I'm obsessed with this genre, and I'm not gonna do anything to stop this obsession 😉.

I loved it. The romance was slowly burning my mind with all that tension. By the end of the novel, I decided (once again) that I'll stay single for the rest of my life. My standards are way too high now 📈.

Mood: Currently searching for a new e-sports book to fill the void 😭

Leaving this as 5 stars, although my 2025 reread was less than great :/ Still funny, still love all the characters, the game play and netizen's comments just weren't interesting to me...
This is my third time reading it though and I have such a soft spot for this novel. So, I might read it again in the future. It is hard to let these characters go... I just really shouldn't read it right after I Can Do It hahaha that might have been part of the problem.

I’ve been in the mood to read an esports genre novel when I eyed The Esports Circle’s Toxic Assembly Camp from my to-be-read list. Even though it wasn’t the next novel on my list, I decided to give it a read.

I enjoyed the esports plot. It was comedic most of the time, but quite serious at crucial times. It fulfilled the cravings I’ve been looking for in an esports novel, and greatly motivated the gamer in me. I like the plot more than the romance itself, so I don’t have much to say for the romance aspect of the novel. The protagonists were cute and sweet. That’s all I can say.

If there was anything I was looking forward to but was disappointed with, it was that Lin Yan didn’t expose the truth regarding his transmigration. There was a huge question mark in my head. How did he transmigrate? What made him choose Jing Yuanzhou out if all the characters in the novel? Why didn’t he tell his partner about it? This is usually a common plot hole from transmigration novels and I thought, with how long the novel was, that it would be different this time around. I wanted to know how Jing Yuanzhou would react to the truth; not just the fact that he transmigrated but also his reactions regarding the truth behind Lin Yan’s ptsd. And for that reason, I decided to give only three stars.

It was a relaxing read, not very memorable but could get you into the mood in playing moba games. That is, if you like playing moba games like I do.

It was a nice novel. 3/5.
By the way, I don't really think the transmigration thing was needed. The plot was fine without it for 99% of the time so i was really puzzled about what was its purpose. But well.
The story was really funny and interesting. That is, at the beginning. Then, it became repetitive and quite bland. I usually enjoy reading the descriptions of the games but, nearing the end, i felt disinterested. The outcomes were just too predictable and i had less fun reading it.
The caracters were cool and I really liked GH. Their bantering and childishness was cute.
The romance aspect was also nice and I rooted for them.
Plus, I liked how the subject of retirement and PTSD was written by the author. The ending was good but felt bittersweet.

I thought I had read most of the fully translated e-sports danmei novels out there, so I was super excited to come across this book. I had seen it before on some rec lists, but the mention of transmigration threw me off, so I never read it until now. I shouldn't have worried, since those aspects played such a tiny role in the story that 99% of the time, I forgot this was technically a transmigration story.

**Warning: Spoilers Ahead**

The author does a great job of building out the story and characters and fleshing out the romance. Right from the beginning, she clearly sets the context about team GH being a newly formed team that has to initially rely on some shortcuts to make it into the first tier league and makes the reader very invested in the success of the team, especially after you learn more about the characters.

Initially I was very confused by the name of the novel, but I eventually realized that the title refers to the eclectic mix of GH team members who have a bad past but, as we eventually learn through their backstories, were misunderstood by the rest of the world. The team collectively takes turns protecting whoever is struggling, whether it's Chen Yushen with the former bullies from the training camp or BB with his old team that match fixed, and I loved that sense of team camaderie and not letting any past grievances go.

The romance was done really well here too. The first couple of interactions between Lin Yan and Jing Yuanzhou were already very questionable (their first meeting happens with LY hitting on JYZ while drunk and their second was LY mistaking JYZ for an online bf he ordered XP) and it only got worse from that point on. I was right there with all the Parents CP fans cheering for them before they got together, and believe me when I say there were sooooo many ambiguous scenes between them as first JYZ and then LY realized their feelings individually.

They really care about each other, and that comes out not just in words but also in their actions. JYZ tries to help LY get over his PTSD by queueing up with him in ranking matches to get him used to hearing his voice. And when LY has to play in a competition match, JYZ plays like a madman to end the game ASAP when he realizes LY can't hold on for much longer. Similarly, LY shows his care for JYZ every time he comes up with a strategy or tactic that lets JYZ's individual strength shine through rather than force him to confirm to the needs of the team like BK's coaches did. When LY finally meets BK's old coach who forced JYZ down this route, he doesn't even let the old coach apologize to JYZ and instead uses superior knowledge of game analysis and tactics to dominate the coach's new team, Win, in the final round of the World Championships.

JYZ was such a sly guy, getting LY to change his Wechat profile picture to matching couple pics (Spongebob and Patrick) without LY ever being aware they were couple pics. Everyone else in the team and in the professional team chat all realized it wasn't normal before LY did. And for such a suave player in the game, JYZ sure drinks a lot of vinegar over minor, harmless things XP He defriended Luni on Wechat just because fans started a CP for them, and he took actions when a CP formed for LY and Chen Yushen to ensure the CP never went anywhere.

The story has all the elements I enjoy in a good e-sport novel: good romance, good team camaderie, interesting side characters, online comments from both the team's fans and antis, and good descriptions of each match. Even though I don't game at all myself, I really enjoyed reading about LY's out of the box game strategies, some of which were quite creative, such as employing multiple characters with shadow or group teleportation skills. GH faced quite a lot of tough teams as they made their way to the finals, and each opponent had their own style which LY found ways to counter through his strategies.

My two minor complaints about the story was that 1) I'm not sure if the transmigration aspects of the story were really necessary as they played such a minor role, and 2) GH was a little too OP in their competition matches. They would often steamroll over their opponents 3-0, or even if they lost the occasional match, there was never a sense of suspense because you knew exactly who was going to win. In all the other gaming novels I've read, it was never quite so easy for the home team to win.

Here are some snippets from the story that are pretty representative of JYZ and LY's interactions:

Lin Yan turned his head and glared at Jing Yuanzhou. Then his lips curved up in a smile and on a whim, he continued to fight with Lan Min. “Yes, your master is now mine. I like to watch him closely and don’t want him to have an unclear relationship with his old love. Is there any problem? I just don’t want him involved with you or any other teams. Titans is mine for the rest of his life and it can only be me. How about it? Aren’t you angry? It is a pity that it is useless to be angry. Your master didn’t stay to celebrate with you and chose to take the car back with me to eat dinner. Are you even angrier?”

Lan Min had racked his brains to think of words to choke Lin Yan. He didn’t expect this person to answer with no burden. A long time passed before he finally choked out some words. “You… are stinky and shameless!”

Lin Yan sighed. “What can I do? Your master likes this stinky and shameless me.”

There was no sound on the other end of the phone. Then Ku Tianlu’s voice was heard from a distance. “Mini, what are you doing? Be careful, this bag contains your equipment. You can’t drop it!”

The child was obviously angry.

Lin Yan liked to poke at people’s sore spots and was even happier after hearing these words. “Why? You don’t believe it? If you don’t believe me then ask your master!”

At this point, Lan Min was crying again and his tone was very wronged, “Master…”

Lin Yan glanced at Jing Yuanzhou. Jing Yuanzhou met this gaze and smiled slightly. “Indeed, I like all the appearances of my wife.”

Lan Min, “……”

Lin Yan, “?”

Lan Min obviously couldn’t accept the reality of his teacher. He finally hung up the phone in a crying manner after Ku Tianlu urged him several times. The moment the call ended, Lin Yan stared coldly at Jing Yuanzhou. “How come I’m a wife? Shouldn’t you explain this?”

Jing Yuanzhou looked at him innocently. “Didn’t you want me to support you?"

------------

At this time, the final question of today’s interview arrived. One of the reporters stood up and asked a question that everyone had been concerned about for a long time. “The history of the GH club is already legendary. I want to ask Captain Jing, during the time when GH was still nothing, why did you agree to Coach Lin and decide to join?”

During the whole interview, Jing Yuanzhou appeared very official and perfunctory.  He didn’t raise his head until he heard this question. It wasn’t known what he was thinking but he stared at the camera next to him in a meaningful manner. The tone slightly lengthened. “Ah, this… it is probably because someone pestered me every day, saying things like ‘I really want you.’ I just felt really generous, I guess.”

The reporters, “???”

Lin Yan in the lounge, “???”

He said ‘someone’ but everyone could guess who it was! This was blatant slander that damaged the personal image of the club owner. Wasn’t he afraid of his salary being deducted?!

Beside him, Luo Mo couldn’t hold back his laughter and let out a ‘pfft.’

Lin Yan was silent for a moment. Then he took out his phone without any expression and looked at the barrage. Unsurprisingly, it was completely filling the screen.

[Coach Lin! I bet a car of cucumbers that the ‘someone’ mentioned by Captain Jing is definitely Coach Lin!!!]

[Ahhhh, Parents love is real! I can do it!]

[I feel as if I’ve heard the official announcement.]

[That’s right. It is almost like he said ‘Coach Lin made my heart flutter’.]

[F*k, Sister, can you translate a bit more?]

[Seriously, the interview has reached this point. It is really hard for the two of them to not get married tonight.]

------------

Before Lin Yan could speak, Jing Yuanzhou had already told him, “I really don’t want to have too much intersection with Captain Song. I don’t like to see him. Just now, he suddenly came over. If it wasn’t for you, I probably would’ve treated him with the same attitude. It’s as you think. Contact with him will really affect my mood.”

“…So why are you still smiling?”

“I’m smiling because—” Jing Yuanzhou suddenly took two steps forward. He stared down at Lin Yan and his smile became stronger. “What should I do? Although I know it isn’t very good but I seem to… like seeing you become angry for me.”

Lin Yan, “……”

“It is the first time I realized that being protected feels like this.”

Lin Yan’s mouth moved slightly. He couldn’t stand the gaze of the person in front of him and couldn’t help muttering in a low voice, “What is this? It isn’t a big deal. If you really like it then I’ll protect you more next time.”

I know everyone likes flawed characters and all, but I love perfect characters. Even better when those perfect characters fall in love with each other, reach the peak of their careers together, while adopting several kids to make a powerful team and a heartwarming found family at the same time.

The E-sports stuff is quite complex in this one. The author goes super technical. But even though I don't understand the game, I still get super invested into all the matches. And it's really great how the game techniques and match results are closely tied to each character's personality, relationship, and development. (Even the side characters are interesting and unique!)

“𝑌𝑜𝑢 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐼 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑚𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑛 𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑘𝑠, 𝑓𝑙𝑦𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑒𝑎𝑐ℎ 𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑡𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑. ”

I would say about 70% of the plot is:

GH getting flamed for being weak then proves everyone wrong by completely crushing their opponents. Some problems were left unresolved at the end, a big example would be Lin Yan's transmigration, the author didn't explain why or how the MC transmigrated - it was just a convenient way to explain why he's so OP.

HOWEVER:

The part that made the novel shine for me would be the characters (interactions with each other). Parent CP for life! Lin Yan and Jing Yuanzhou reminded me of Wei Xiao and Lu Feng from Glory, lol. Ah, now that I think about it, Gu Luo also reminds me of Ning Zhehan, Bi Yaohua reminds me of Jian Rong from ICDI and Jian Ye and Chen Yushen, well, I can't really think of characters similar to them from the top of my head, haha.

I liked seeing the fact that DeMen x AI and Wuhoo x Come ships kinda sailed, though I'm not so happy about the fact that Jian Ye x Gu Luo and Bi Yaohua x Chen Yushen ships sank :(

I feel like I would have enjoyed this novel more if I didn't binge read it. The gameplay got repetitive after a while, and there was no suspense as I was 99.9% GH would win (due to how powerful they were).

— a fun, surprisingly heartfelt story about second chances, found family, and quiet, steady love.
— it's got all the classic e-sports excitement — tournaments, rivalries, team banter
— transmigrator turned tactician; shameless, teasing, always plotting, but deeply caring—especially for those he sees as forgotten talent
— gong is calm, carried-by-skills side-laner, a famous captain with a chill veneer—until shou’s relentless affection cracks his armor and commitment blooms.
— romance is slow and practical
— no cringe love triangles; just two adults weighing feelings alongside tactics, squad synergy, and long-term team vision
— expect mind games, dogfood moments, and more parental love than you thought possible
— if you’re into strategic esports danmei with found family energy, coach × captain romance that’s practical and warm, and a team that goes from underdog scrubs to top-tier legends, this is exactly the feel-good yet tactical read you’ve been dreaming of

pros: great side and main characters, absolutely adore the main characters dynamic they are very sweet and i want what they have, the plot and the pacing was overall pretty good, overall pretty light read

cons: took a while to get into (weird beginning and the first couple chapters almost made me drop it), some of the issues dont really get resolved (ptsd treatment is touched upon several times and only brought up sparely, also the fact ly didnt tell jyz about it felt off, the entire “novel” transmigration also felt kinda random it was very much out of convenience), definitely not smth u can binge read imo bc otherwise all the fight scenes will get repetitive and exhausting, the other teams had pretty boring techniques which made the novel feel a bit odd bc the only good coaching etc seemed to be from lin yan

Fun read. I really liked the MC tactician with a savage tongue that could cut glass (sharp-tongued characters are a personal fav).

Agree with other reviews saying that the transmigration into another world, wasn’t really necessary and the coming out of characters with their fam was well done in that it didn’t become chapters of unnecessary drama.

The extra stories were an interesting peak into the lives of other characters from different teams. However, I would have liked to have seen extras dedicated to GH or even the main characters after Titans retirement, rather than parallel world chapters that aren’t related to the plot.

I loved the GH team so much! From their arrogant beginnings to their personal growth and hilarious banter, this team just kept on getting better and better with all of Coach Lin's devil training lmao. Not to mention Coach Lin's mental torture to the opposing teams' coaches! His mind games were great!

And I loved just how flirty Coach Lin and Jing Yuanzhou were with each other that their ambiguous remarks kept on shocking everyone around them! This couple was spreading dog food straight from the beginning lol.

Maravilloso.

All the characters are so fun to read, I love them. One of the rare cases where I want side chapters about them. Good mix of romance and e-sports competition. The story always makes me laugh because the comedy is on point.
Description of strategy and games is well-done.
Moral of the story: don't forget that sunspots are still fans, no matter how black of a fan they are.

a very fun overall read, an esports player is transmigrated to the novel he was reading as lin yan and proceeded to build his own team based on his past knowledge. loved the dynamics of the "parent" couple and their children. some matches are too lengthy for my taste but it's still very good <3

E-sport

ML: Jing Yuanzhou
Lin Yan

Lin Yan

Lin Yan
Jing Yuanzhou

Lin Yan
Lin Yan) 🤣🤣🤣
