Basically the movie Cars meets slam poetry trying to be Dr Suess

The book overall is a bit lackluster for older kids and a bit long for younger kids so it is a difficult spot. My 8 year old was a bit bored halfway through for example but I think a year ago he would have liked it more.

Art is well done. Some of the rhymes are good. Plot is a snow day and how the vehicles work together and save the day keeping the roads clear.

Not the strongest first reads children book but also not even close to the worst.

Winter's here and that means lots of snow. Good thing best friends Scooper and Dumper are on the job: "Clear the road,/ Salt the street,/ Work together,/ Can't be beat!" Yellow Scooper uses her front loader to scoop up lots of salt and fill up blue Dumper's bed with it. Then while Scooper stays where she is to load more trucks with salt, Dumper travels along the roads, using his front plow to clear the snow in front of home and then salting the roads behind him from his back bed to help keep the snow from accumulating again.

But when the snows starts to fall even harder, cars and trucks in the big nearby city are brought to a halt. When the city has run out of salt, can their country friends Scooper and Dumper help out and get traffic moving again?.

Scooper loads up Dumper with more salt and sends him on his way. But after helping to get traffic moving again, when Dumper starts back to the country, the icy roads and thick snow drifts make driving hard. Next thing he knows, Dumper is on his side in a snowbank. Can Scooper find the courage and confidence she needs to leave the salt yard to find and help out her missing best friend?

Scooper and Dumper is a story that is sure to please young readers and especially young truck lovers. And why not? It stars trucks, their favorite kind of vehicles, it's loaded with excitement and nail-biting action, and it is about how two best friends can be there for each other.

The story is told in four short stanza rhymes using an ABCB rhyme scheme which basically works all the way through the end of the book. The repetition of "Clear the road,/ Salt the street,/ Work together,/ Can't be beat!" emphasizes the idea of courage, friendship and working together to accomplish a goal. And no doubt, your young readers will be chanting these four lines before you know it.

Whether your town is blanketed in snow and waiting for your scooper and dumper to clear the roads or not, this is a book that is sure to be a kid-pleaser.

This book is recommended for readers age 4+

Illustrated friendship amid gridlock

For a kids book, this doesn't stick with just simple words or concepts. Treacherous situations like a dump truck turned sideways, gridlock, a tow truck not being able to help? This is edge of the seat high drama, with two different unlikely friends at the core.

Sure, you'll tell me it's just trucks and I'm reading too much into the diversity concept and girl power and believing in yourself, your strengths, and the power of friendship. But I know I'm right.

The illustrations are fun, bright colors with a limited palette for maximum effect. I'm smitten by the trees in the background.

3.5 stars - Cute book for all kids who like wheels

I thought this was a great picture book for all kids who like wheels. I liked that there are both feminine and masculine cars. I have girls who love truck stories too, and I think that this is a great book for all kids in that 3-7 range.

Why 3.5 stars? I read this through twice and the rhyming was a little awkward for me and awkward as a read aloud. I may just be having a moment, but where the story was adorable, the rhyming was a struggle.

Overall a cute book and worthy of your picture book collection if you have kids who like wheels.

Happy reading!!

Great book about courage!

This is a book about two trucks, Dumper and Scooper. They help clear off roads full of snow, but the real story here is the courage it took Scooper to go off on her own at night, to go save Dumper.

At first I was hesitant because the listing said "children and women" or something like that, and I thought it was a book marketed for girls, like "Rosie" by the same author. But I was pleasantly surprised! It has a perfect mix of characters that both girls and boys will like and feel a connection to.

I haven't read it to my son yet, but I know he's gonna love it. I'll update the review after I've read it to him.

i know, i know, every time i swear i am going to recall the right name for this and i always forget, oops. i think it is "kindle first reads" when a prime member you get to pick one book, i think there are like 7 options ... and they are published the following month ... so it will be January 2021 when this sweet read will be out. so cute. great illustrations. made me smile. i love the kindness and respect these vehicles have for each other ... a real kindred-ship ... we all need to follow suit. well said. who doesn't love a good snowy read? super cute!

I received Scooper & Dumper thanks to Lindsay Ward & the Amazon Prime Benefits Program.

Scooper & Dumper is a beautifully illustrated children's book about two vehicles that clean roads in the snow working together. They help people that get stuck in the snow. Working together to help others are great topics to discuss with young children as you read this book with them.

Living in Florida, we don't get snow so with this book the children here get an idea about how snow in the winter comes down and how people deal with it.

Dumper clears the roads and dumps salt to keep them clear. Scooper loads Dumper so he can do his job. Each has their role to play in helping the community. When a nearby big city needs their help, Scooper loads Dumper and Dumper sets off to clear roads. But when things go wrong it's up to Scooper to step out of her comfort zone and save the day. This is a cute story about friendship and using our strengths to help each other out when needed. The illustrations are darling (Scooper has a polka-dot bow) and the rhymes work well as a read aloud. A great story for young vehicle lovers as well as a thoughtful story about each of us finding our niche.

It Resonates with My Inner Child

I got the book to share with my six year old grandson , who loves cars and trucks. I intended to read a portion of the book, but found myself reading all of it. I'll preserve the 5 Star rating if my grandson likes it one half as much as I do.
Beautiful Graphics, Simple Story, and Clear Display of Friendship in Action, make this a book I want to share with my grandson.

Cute, but just another truck story.

Cute story of small town trucks becoming heroes in the big city. But my hesitation in picking this up is that if you've read one book about trucks, you've read them all. This book does show teamwork and Scooper shows courage when she leaves her yard to look for her missing friend, but I don't feel like this book does anything new. Maybe if it was like a Pete the Cat book and included a song that weren't along with the story. It was cute, but it was also just another truck book.

Absolutely adorable!

My son loves vehicles of all kinds especially construction vehicles and snow plows so this book was a huge hit! The rhyming made it so much fun to read and it really captured his attention which is hard due to him having Autism level 3 and ADHD. Not sure what age this is geared toward but he's 8 and he loved it. The pictures were adorable and matched the story so well! We look forward to reading more from Lindsay Ward! Fantastic children's book!

I was skeptical about this since I don't read many books that have objects as characters. This was a fun read, though. Two anthropomorphic vehicles are strong and brave to keep society running during heavy snow. I liked the teamwork and friendship between Scooper and Dumper, who were tested during a trying time.

So Cute!

Children's Librarians try this one for story hour. The rhyming is admirable. The story is so cute for little kids. It's just totally enjoyable for anyone whether the climate is warm or cold. If your child loves trucks don't miss this one. Also advocates teamwork and loyalty.

Unexpected & Riveting

I didn't expect to get so invested in this story, I'm going to be honest, then halfway through I was reading the story more for myself than for my baby! I actually cried tears of joy when Scooper found her friend. Very cute story with some low-level drama to add interest!

Friends working together and Trucks!!

I loved that these two friends worked together. It was also a newer upgrade on the little engine that could, without the unfortunate outdated bits of a past culture. I am looking for Toddler books and this one close. Thank you and keep writing! We are desperate for new, beautiful, appropriate books.

Goodreads Giveaway

A wonderful children's book to teach kids that you can do anything especially when you work together. Loved the simplicity of the pictures as well as that Scooper was a "she." A wonderful way to teach young children that you can play with whatever toys you want to play with, that you are not confined to the toys of your gender as society expects you to.

I read this book to my 7 year old grandson and he loved it. I thought that the themes of helping others and teamwork were very well shown in this book. The artwork in this book was also great.

This is a cute story told in rhymes, and the illustrations are wonderful. I could really feel the winter storms! My little grandson (who just experienced his first snowstorms in San Antonio last week) would love this book. He's a typical three-year-old who loves tractors, buses, and all types of vehicles.

Such an exciting and colorful children's book by Lindsay Ward! I've shared reading it with a couple of under 8 children and they've all enjoyed it. There is interest for both the very young as well as the older child because the story has more advanced situations.

Thank you to Goodreads for the book contest that allowed me to receive this title.

A Cute Story of Friendship & Dedication

This book is adorable and certainly well suited for any kid who likes winter, trucks, or both. The art is beautiful and the characters have personalities, but the rhyme scheme is a bit questionable at times.

I like that the story is about friends who are there for each other... and that one of the trucks is a female character who is strong and loyal.

Great Story!

Super cute story with great illustrations. I didn't notice on the cover but Scooper (the yellow truck) is a girl. Fun rhyming story. The story takes place during a snow storm and a few vehicles get into accidents and run off the road, so could be scary for more sensitive kids. But I really enjoyed and will be getting a hardcopy 🥰

cute rhyming story

This cute book for the really young ones also has a bit of peril - Two big vehicles that work during snow storms and this one’s a doozy!

I wish I’d been able to read this to my son when he was small and into trucks and such. I grew up where storms like the one here happened regularly. My son might have been baffled by all the snow!
