Vegas Billionaires #2

How to Nail a Stud

Rate this book
First impressions matter, but they aren’t everything.

The single dad next door has a fit body, eyes a girl could get lost in, and a jaw sharp enough to cut through anyone’s bad day.

What he doesn’t have? The basic etiquette to say hello to Shel Tinsdale when they pass on the street.

Until she trips over her dog and he catches her. She’s covered in grease and oil –she hadn’t been expecting a close encounter of the sexy kind – and manages to fumble the conversation entirely.

To her surprise, he doesn’t run from her screaming, in fact… is that interest in his eyes?

Max Mason has made some idiotic mistakes in his life. The kind of mistakes that resulted in jail time and took him away from his daughter for the first four years of her life.

Getting involved with his sexy neighbor is exactly the sort of distraction he should avoid, but he just can’t seem to stay away.

How to Nail a Stud is a billionaire, frenemies to lovers, neighbors romance with a rock and roll soundtrack, an adorable six-year-old, and a goofy Saint Bernard. It ends with an HEA and no cliffhangers.

Simply put!!! I fell absolutely in love with this story.

I love the fact that this was a romance with a very captivating and rich story line.

Shel, the daughter of famous rock stars intends to lead a quiet life and then she meets her neighbor Max, a single father with rugged good looks. He is drawn to Shel's good nature and of course her beauty. Max has a secret about his past that if revealed prematurely could destroy any chance he has of happiness with Shel. Meanwhile Shel's ex, TJ, intent on getting fame with no talent is trying to ruin her life.

A very well sequenced romance. I say this because the events just fell nicely into place to make this a feel good story. The characters all held equal importance. I absolutely adored Addy's and Max's relationship that was such a nice touch. The message in the story was also really well written and made me think about the other side of fame., the side that the public does not see, the loneliness. the rumors and all the other challenges that come with it.

Shel's childhood experiences were a good place to start in the book because it led the reader to experience what her life was like throughout.

Max's character was so dreamy, and the way he and Shel connected was just magical.

The ending very happy..... Loved it.

I hope to read more Katharine Sadler books in the future

How to Nail a Stud is on sale for $0.99 September 13-20, 2021!

Here's an excerpt:
"I appreciate you bringing me dinner, but I'm tired of whatever game it is you're playing."
"Game?" His expression was baffled.
She threw up her hands. "One minute you're this guy who never talks to me, never even looks at me. The next minute you save my life and I think we're getting along. Then you vanish and are only slightly less cold and distant the next time I see you. Then you bring me dinner, but as soon as I mention including your mom, you shut down again."
His jaw worked as he glared at the table like it had done something to him. "I wanted to kiss you," he said, the words raspy and fast, like they'd been ripped from him.
She stared. "I don't—"
He straightened and met her gaze head on. "I wanted to kiss you the other night. Actually, I wanted to hug you until you stopped crying, then kiss you. That's why I took off. And, when you wanted to include my mother, my family, after having every right to be pissed at me, I wanted to kiss you again."
He was way too serious, and she was starting to get the idea he might be as awkward with people he found attractive as she was. "And that works for you? Running away from women you want to kiss?"
His hands fisted on the table. "No. I don't . . ." He leaned back in his seat. "Damn it. I sound like a weirdo, don't I?"
She nodded, but she couldn't fight her smile, because beneath all his strange talk was a vulnerability, an uncertainty that flattered the hell out of her and made her like him even more. "Yep. Big time weirdo."
"Good. So, you probably don't want to kiss me at all, right?"
"I wouldn't go that far. You're weird, but you're hot as hell and it's been a long time since any man has looked at me the way you're looking at me right now."

"How to Nail a Stud" by Katharine Sadler featured Shelley "Shel" Tinsdale, the daughter of divorced rock stars who spent her early childhood on the road with them before being sent to live with her grandparents when she was 8. Years later, after taking her grandparents' last name to maintain her privacy and anonymity, Shel was content with her life as a middle school music teacher in Las Vegas and playing in a local band on the side. Things began to change for her when she met her handsome next door neighbor, single dad Max Mason. It was endearing how awkward she was around Max at first, and despite her unusual childhood and family situation, I found Shel to be incredibly likeable and relatable.

Max came across as somewhat aloof at first, but as soon as he started to open up to Shel, it became obvious how kind and caring he was. He'd made mistakes in the past, but I loved how hard he tried to make up for them, especially where his daughter Addy was concerned. I also loved how protective he was of his family, which quickly came to include Shel. They faced some real challenges and Shel tried to push Max away at times, but they managed to work through everything with the help of their family and friends. I found it very easy to cheer them on to their HEA.

Overall, I really enjoyed this charming story and recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance, rock star romance, and romantic comedy. I will definitely be checking out more of this author's work in the future.

Shel has been crushing on her sexy neighbor for a while now, but she didn’t believe anything would ever come of it until a chance encounter brings them together. She hopes that it is the beginning of something special but is confused when every step forward they make is followed by two steps backward.

Max is focused on trying to overcome a past he regrets and being the best father that he can be to his daughter. He is conflicted as he believes that Shel deserves more than he can give her which causes some complications along the way.

When you combine the characters of Max and Shel with a great cast of secondary characters, a child that is too cute for words and an adorable dog you end up with a heartwarming story.

The awesome dialog as Max Mason and Shelley Tinsdale (“Shel”) get to know each other better will pull the reader right in and melt the heart immediately. Shel is not happy that Max seems like he is avoiding her and can’t even say hello. Even when he rescues her from a fall when she trips over her dog, and he looks at her in a way that shook her up, he backs off. For every bit of progress they make, he steps back until it frustrates her. But she doesn’t know his history, nor the mistakes he has made, and he knows he needs to stay away no matter how he feels.

Max has made some big mistakes in his life, ending up in jail time and not seeing his daughter for the first four years of her life. Will he make another now and walk away from Shel?

A flawless blend of invigorating chemistry, great heroine, swoony hero, adorable little girl, laugh-out-loud, giggle inciting banter, plenty of drama and emotions, and some explosive tension fueled steam. This book just had everything that I love in a book and I can’t wait to read the next book by this amazing author. Happy reading everyone!!

What do meddling parents, rockstars, and really dumb exes have in common? This book.
The first people to fall in love are Max's kid and Shel's dog, and they bring these two neighbors together in what turns into a media circus, thanks to one really rotten ex that can't take no for an answer.
Seeing Max and Shel overcome their fears of the past was so gratifying, and little Addy is one of the more realistic portrayals of children in romance. She has her own fears to handle as well.

How To Nail A Stud is a charming frenemies/neighbors to lovers romcom from a new-to-me author. There is a lot of push and pull between Max and Shel, and it kind of drove me crazy that he was so wishy-washy about things. They both have a not-so-pretty history, and their friendship becomes front and center in the media thanks to an ex with a grudge. And who Shel is, as the daughter of two world-famous singers.

While I didn't love this story as a whole, there were a lot of parts that I liked. I thought Max's daughter Addy and her obsession with Shel's dog was absolutely adorable.Max really tried to do the honorable thing by keeping his distance from Shel. He'd paid dearly for some mistakes he made in the past, and didn't want to drag her into his world. But he eventually reaches a point where he needs to decide if walking away from her would be another big mistake.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

Great up until the ending (again)

Pros? Wonderful characterization and character depth, and good writing. Each character feels very distinct and has their own little flair and they all interacted well in the plot as well which I loved. It also has a nice dose of steam with two explicit scenes (but not overly descriptive).

That being said, my one major complaint here is the same that I had with one of the other books in the series: the resolution. It was incredibly anticlimactic and felt rushed. Really trying to avoid spoilers here but the fact that the FMC went solo and just did her own thing at the end was so aggravating.

Not to mention, she was incredibly wishy-washy in the latter half of the book and just when I thought she finally had her stuff figured out, she flipped again! With all this back and forth and then that very quick and awfully convenient resolution, I don’t really feel that they grew as a couple. And even though the author gives us an epilogue, I find it unbelievable.

I’ll probably still read the upcoming book (I think book 5?) as I like the author’s writing style and I think she does a great job with developing characters and the beginning of their romances, but I am really hoping that the next book doesn’t have such indecisive/self-sacrificing characters all the way up to the end and I hope that there’s more development with the couple in the final stages of the book.

Max and Shel

I can't and won't even begin to suggest that I GET what it's like being a celebrity with paparazzi following them everywhere. But I do know what it's like having others all up in my business and making something out of nothing. That's a tough place to be and not everyone gets a chance to defend him/herself. She'll and Max handle the unwanted attention well and created a "new normal" for themselves and their friends and family That's even better than anything they could have imagined! Rabbit, btw, makes me want a Saint Bernard!! But...how in the world does a Saint Bernard survive living in Nevada?!

A good Read!

I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were well developed and it gave an interesting look into the life of celebrities and their families. How difficult it can be. I did find that there were some very descriptive bedroom scenes, and some language that would be unappreciated by some readers. But the story line was good. I would say it’s worth reading!
