Thirst

Rate this book
I bear his mark, and soon he will claim what is his.

Cain came for me today. Even before he spoke his name his power all but drove me to my knees.

Power that can pin me against a wall with just a thought and hold me there as he slowly cuts my clothes from my quivering body, making sure I know he is enjoying every blushing moment.

Power that will punish me until I plead for mercy, tease and torment me until I beg for release, and then ravage me brutally over and over again until I'm utterly spent and shamefully broken.

Power that will claim me as his forever.

Publisher's Note: Thirst includes spankings, rough sexual scenes, intense and humiliating punishments, and strong D/s themes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book. Also note that an earlier version of Thirst was previously published under the title The Devil's Game as part of a multi-author collection entitled Bite Me: A Vampire Anthology. This new version has been greatly expanded.

More than three⭐️ because the plot did intrigue me more than I expected it to, but less than four⭐️ because there was still things I would have loved to be added or removed. Overall, I do not usually read many PNR romances so I might be biased here.

A short read about a demon hunter Ruby who is captured by Cain (a demon). Cain believes Ruby is his fated mate. Ruby wants nothing to do with him and runs...

I actually enjoyed this book because it has a good plot aside from all the smut.

This was a very, very filthy story. I mean, just downright obscene. I may have had to take 4 showers after reading this, it was that dirty.

I think that Ruby was very strong, both physically and mentally. I think that she is really determined and stubborn, both of which I can totally admire and like. She needs to have that, and I don't blame her for being that. I do think that she starts out with a very black and white view of the world.

I think Cain is a really interesting character. We don't see much of his perspective, since the whole story is through Ruby's POV, so anything we get of him is from her. I think that it works really well in this book.

I feel that vampires are despicable creatures so I don't know why I gave this book a shot. There is something that makes me feel so goddam sinful about biblical smut and it's hard to get through without imagining my sacrament of confession on the weekend. I understand why the author would use Cain as the first vampire and all that but I can't help siding with good and heaven. Hard to admit but the novella is entertaining enough and it's a quick burn.

Ruby is a vampire hunter that has no idea how much her life will change when she is kidnapped by Cain. Cain is a vampire and ruthless as he captures Ruby. He finds out how special she is when he sees the mark on her back. An enjoyable read that you can count on keeping you interested until the last page.

This had a good premise but I got tired of the vamp sexually molesting the heroine and nothing else happening. I guess this one is more smut then plot which is okay. I just wasn't enjoying it.

If you read the "Bite Me" anthology, you've probably read Ruby and Cain's story. It was one of a handful that I really enjoyed and wanted more of. Now, Sara Fields has given her readers more of this couple!! While the original was really good, THIS expanded version of the story is so much more!! I loved reading more about these two and about Cain's brother, Abel. Nice little twist on the story of those 2 brothers! There were a few scenes that made me cringe a bit but nothing bad enough to take away from how much I loved this!!

I first read the much shorter version of this last year in Bite Me: A Vampire Anthology and it was definitely one of my favorites in that anthology. So when I found out that this was a longer version of it, I just had to have it.

I didn't go back and check, so I could be wrong, but I think the first about 20% of this was that short story. Is that a bad thing? Hell no. That ended up still being one of my favorite parts of this book. My problem came from after that. Okay, so I'll back up for those who haven't read the short story. Ruby was raised by a hunter's association and has spent her life determined to kill any and all of the evil monsters she encounters. Vampires, demons, even trolls. Cain is the first vampire to ever exist and he's building an army to take over the world. It's while hunting this army one night that Ruby first encounters Cain. He has delightfully devious and punishing plans for the little hunter who keeps getting in his way. His playing had only just begun when he sees that she bares his mark and now everything changes. He can no longer torture her and eventually kill her, now he must break her and force her to see that she belongs to him. Which turns out to be pretty damn hot. Eventually he claims her and turns her, and she sees a vision of their future together after he gives her something to regain her own powers. Now, here is where we diverge from the short story and for a while I was really rather frustrated.

So when this goes down, Ruby sees this future and she wants it. Okay, cool. That means we'll get to see these two working together to make this awesome vision a reality....right? Stupid, stupid. Of course not. Instead, Ruby gets drunk on her power and runs away from Cain. When he finds her again, he completes their sire bond. Now? No, Ruby fucking flees again! This time to Hellmouth where all sorts of demons and the like live. But they all take one look at her and they bow down before their new queen. Oh wow. If that doesn't call for an eye roll I don't know what does. She lives there as their queen, thoroughly enjoying it, all the while plotting on how she can take down Cain. Which takes us to meet Cain's brother. You guessed it, Abel. I will say that I liked the twist that was put onto their story here of what really happened. While Ruby gets what she wants, she also finds herself with a new enemy in Lucifer.

When Cain finds her here, he's determined to break her once and for all and to make her see that she belongs to him. And boy does he. Finally, FINALLY, we get these two working and being together. Their fight against Abel was good, but I kind of wish that Cain had a bigger part in it. Ruby gets a new power and these two are off to conquer the world. ...As the damn EPILOGUE! I mean, really?! What I wanted as the story was summarized at the end?! So not right.

Really though, this was a good book. It was super hot and definitely worth the read.

Nothing new from this author - read in KU

I think how you rate this book depends on how many of her similar books you have read. I can't remember if this is my 3rd or 4th book by this author that has been made from the same mold. The H perceives the h has done something wrong and spanks her with his hand for a long time and then with some other implement, which is usually a belt. That's the first punishment. Then there's a couple of chapters, or maybe a few, and then he perceives she has done something wrong again and punishes her again but not usually as badly as the first time. (I think the 2nd one was worse in this book but can't remember for sure.) There was one in the middle of this book on a balcony where an entire city of demons watched. There's usually a third one that is the worst. A few more chapters of whatever, and then a time when the conflict is over and she wants to be spanked before sex. There's always anal sex by the 2nd or 3rd time that is a punishment. There are always forced climaxes that become painful. I think this book had one more punishment that the others haven't had.

The two books I can remember for sure reading are On her Knees and the one with the back of a wedding dress on it. The latter was my favorite of the three by far because the H was actually a hero instead of an anti-hero. On Her Knees is about the birth of a mafia kingpin AND the H and h are in their senior year of high school but he is 20, as he couldn't go to school for a couple of years for good reason. Obviously, this book is about Cain, the first murderer, and has a different spin on that murder. And Abel becomes the bad guy in the present.

Cain is the strongest demon. He keeps making new demons in the form of vampires. Our h has been a demon hunter and by the end of the book no longer has a problem with Cain building vampire armies. The logic in the entire book is really twisted. I love a good imagination and this author obviously has one but sometimes our imagination goes a little too far out there and I believe that is the case here. It also baffles me this how this author can write books with stories so very different from one another and one this outlandish but doesn't have the imagination to vary her cookie cutter on the whole punishment thing.

I guess if you want to find an author with a catalog of books for a once a month date night inspiration and you like one of her books, then she is the author for you. If one works, the next will too, unless you just read the last book, in which you start to roll your eyes. It would be great if she would at least mix it up with the punishments. Maybe add in some different aids. Or use adult furniture instead of OTK.

As far as this book, specifically, I found the story to be not only outlandish but also boring. I really didn't care about these characters.

I won't be reading another story by her for quite some time so the next one will feel fresher. I doubt that's what an author would want but her books kind of demand it.

A spectacular vampire hunter and had , romance read
Ruby is an orphan that had been abandoned on a doorstep with no identification and with no idea who her family were she had been raised by Jonas and he had trained her to become a Vampire Hunter, now grown she was one of their best a deadly hunter responsible for ending the existence of many vampires and other beings walking the earth and preying on humans.
Then the fateful day when her life would change forever because of a Vampire and the fact that when he had discovered a birth mark on her body and everything had changed. Caine had been looking for this woman for centuries she was linked to him both physically and magically only she had no idea of these facts and when he had turned her life and her abilities had changed.
Would she put these abilities to good use or would she become as cruel and deadly a vampire as Caine, the brother who had killed his sibling Able or would she be able to draw on the power of the amulet and in her own right continue to protect those at harm by vampires and other evil beings walking the earth.
Only time and her own inner strength will determine this, read this simply riveting read and you will become totally enthralled until you reach the end.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

If you read “Bite Me: Anthology,” you already know Ruby and Cain. We got a taste of them in “Devil’s Game.” Now we really get to take an exciting bite into what is to come of these two. I am so glad we got to finally experience what happened with these two. In “Devil’s Game” you were left wanting more and here it is. We find out what happens or more to the point we dive deeper into the story. Yes, I did compare the two books back to back to see where the change was. This is soooooooo good.

Cain and Ruby are drawn to each from not only vampire to demon hunter but from what is special about Ruby. I am not going to tell you what it is. But Ruby is one tough “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” but she is so much more. I think even Cain didn’t realize how much more power she had than he did. And I do love the history and lore. Yes, I did look up some info and it was surprising how much you find out. The punishment that Cain dolls out, OMG it had my heart pumping and on the edge of my seat. “ouch” isn’t even close to what Ruby was getting. Get ready to feel really sore. I loved this book.

Ruby could not have predicted what fate had in store for her when an ordinary night hunting vampires put her directly in the path of her future. When Cain captures Ruby, he does not realize how vital she is to him until he sees the mark on her shoulder. Ruby could not imagine how much power the mark on her should symbolizes and as she tries time and time again to escape Cain’s grasp, Cain shows her every time how powerful he is as he gives her the punishment she craves before dominating her with the pleasure only he can provide. Just when Ruby thinks she has finally turned the tables on Cain, he will show her that he does not need magic to bend her to his will as he gives her a punishment that leaves her so sore and dripping she will not soon forget who her master is. When Lucifer sends forth on of his own to try to bring them down, Ruby and Cain will have to use all their magic and training to try to defeat their tormentor before their union can be complete.

You know most of SF's books are not a surprise to me. I know what to expect - naughty, defiant girls in need of discipline (or so the alpha male think); some exchange of power themes; a little D/s and spanking; maybe some dubcon to add some flair. You the usual. This one actual threw me for a loop there. There for a time, while I was reading, I actually thought something else was going to happen ** that is the only amount of a spoiler you will get from me. Such a tease, I know **

I didn't know up from down; who was good or bad; what way the story should go. Man, such a change from the norm there in the middle, then it all came together and life in the SF-world was as it should be. I don't know if I can get behind more books like this from one of my fav authors, but I appreciate her keeping me on my toes.

This book become my fav from so many books I've read from this author.
A demon hunter captured by the demon him self. An ancient vampire so powerful, this Cain is nothing you ever know from all the books.
And his brother, Abel? He is the fallen Angel who will do anything to destroy Cain through Ruby who was born to be Cain soulmate.

It's interesting how the author Twist the story of Cain and Abel we all know. Interesting, twisted and dark. Love it!
Although there's lots of question about Ruby I fell gone unanswered.
I won't go in spoiler by telling more than that.
Another thing I like about this book. Ruby fight back. Even though fruitless, she fight back.
And absolutely yes for all the steamy scenes! I may or may not rub one out because of it lol

Ruby was raised by the man who is in charge of the Demon Hunters, a group of humans that protect humanity from the demons. She is strong, she is fast and she takes her job seriously. Unfortunately, even though the is warned repeatedly not to do it, she has a tendency to go off hunting demons without a partner, or backup of any kind. She will be given plenty of time to regret that decision when she is taken prisoner by Cain, the oldest and most powerful vampire known to exist. He says he will break her, he will do things to her that she could never imagine.

Whew! Sizzling hot, and sexy characters who will have to fight for each other, and all of the humanity, to survive. Surprising, and unexpected twist in the plot that kept me turning the pages into the early morning hours. Fantastic!

This is roller coaster ride. Ruby, a well trained and well seasoned demon hunter does what every one of them does. She goes out alone. Drawn to her, Cain has been waiting and he comes out on top. Or does he capture the hunter? There are ups and downs throughout, as Cain and Ruby fight each other on so many levels. Yes, there is spanking and power exchange, but Ruby seems to keep the upper hand. Right?
Like i mentioned, this is a rollercoaster ride, that flips, pushes the human nature, and then offers rewards. This may be my favorite by this author. I enjoyed this world, her characterizations are deep but viewed with a new interest. I'd recommend this read to dark tale paranormal lovers everywhere.

Ruby is a vampire hunter and really good at her job. One night everything would change for her when she comes across a strong vampire and learns he is Cain. A vampire everyone fears. Cain is upset that she has been killing his people and is planning to punish her for it. That is until he sees a mark on her body that changes everything between them. The mark makes Ruby even more special than anyone would've thought. But will she continue her good work or let Cain turn her towards his side of things?

This is a great story that will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what will happen next. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Not sure!

So I liked the storyline of this book but the execution of it had me hopping mad. I get it was a dark romance and D/s was involved but the lack of consent and forcing Ruby the first time made me feel sick. I know she enjoyed it in the end in a way but I just couldn't get it out of my head that even when she begged him to stop he didn't and even forced anal.. it left me feeling dirty and like I had read about a rape in all honesty. Not once did he say he loved her either! I loved that Ruby didn't lose her humanity and kept an eye on her family at the end. The cover is ace btw but I didn't feel like the book lived up to it sorry!

Ruby is a skilled demon hunter until the Cain finds her. Cain has found the mate he's been looking for, for centuries. Being the most powerful vampire, Cain needs to show Ruby exactly what she was made for and his lessons are hot, scary and so very sexual. As the sire-bond deveopes and Ruby transforms, their combined abilities grow. I loved how Ruby never really gave up or gave in to Cain's dominance, although her struggles were kind of cute, she never really stood a chance against his experience and knowledge. This story will keep you guessing as each event happens and the connection between Ruby and Cain reveals itself. This is a story about love conquering evil in the end.

Omg this book was amazing hot, dark and intense and had more twists and turns than you can keep up with. Ruby is an orphan and was taken in by Jonas and trained to be a demon killing hunter and Ruby is the best until she comes upon a vampire named Cain who is so powerful that she wonders why she is drawn to him and who after seeing her birthmark knows she is his his soulmate. Ruby is drawn to him physically and mentally and now she is his captive and he has big plans for her and the lessons she gets are hot as and on the dark side ( which I love), but throughout this book they each learn from each other. How does it all turn out you’ll have to get it to find out.

Ruby was an orphan and left with no knowledge of her family, it was Jonas who raised her and taught her to be a vampire hunter and she grew to b one of the best. Cain had been searching all his life for the woman with the mark to be his soulmate and he found her in Ruby, he wanted to break her and remake her stronger and to be his, he turned her. but his fallen angel brother Abel wasnt going to let them be. A well written tale with a twist on the Cain and Abel story. this story had it all action, desire, vampires and hot scenes!

Wow the highs, the longing, the tempting and the torture! It makes me understand why all of this is so addictive. Before my minds eye I saw the whole story and felt it with Ruby.
She’s so empowering and almost fearless.
Ruby makes me see I have more potential than I thought. We all are capable of more than we can think of!
Sometimes I also experience that my truth so far isn’t complete, that there’s more to the story, other sides to be contemplated.
There are leaders who want peace and a peaceful and balanced society. The change is within us, to make it happen.

I wanted to like this book so much more than I did, but from the very start it went off into too many directions. Ruby was raised as a foster child to become a demon hunter and is very good at her job, until she meets Cain. He is an ancient vampire with Biblical connections and he believes Ruby is his fated mate. I had problems with a few loose ends that puzzled me, there was almost too much going on with vampires, angels, voodoo, magic, demons, and don't forget Cain and his brother. Seriously wanted to quit the book several times. I m a huge fan of Sara Fields, just not of this book. 2 1/2 Stars

Feisty and Wet

My initial reaction as I got into the storyline was shock. But, I decided to continue and I’m glad I did. Cain and Ruby were a formidable couple and showed that with love they could conquer anything. Sara continues to write not only a good story but one that entices the reader’s imagination. I’m not really into sci-fi but I must say I’m slowly becoming a fan. I’m looking forward to seeing where Sara will take me next. Kudos to Sara. This was definitely a different genre from her for me.

Happy reading,

Cain's and Ruby's story. Ruby was an orphan and was abandoned as an infant at the door of the vampire hunters and raised as one of their own. Ruby was a vampire hunter and Cain was a vampire and Able’s brother. Cain has been looking for his mate and when he sees Ruby he knows she is the one. Ruby had the mark of Cain. Ruby went to the cemetery every night to annihilate vampires. Cain abducts her. I admire that Ruby is very strong physically and mentally. This story includes spankings, rough sexual scenes, intense and humiliating punishments, and strong D/S play. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Well, other reviews said that the plot is good. I didn't find that to be true - all rushed and over the top dramatic.

The story is based on Buffy, the vampire hunter. Ruby, our protagonist, gets caught by Cain, uber old vampire. They have a couple of hot scenes, she escapes him and she portals spontaneously to a demon city, where she is greeted as a queen. Follows a happy spontaneous rule of this unknown city, a trip to hell with some ally, who was 50/50 trustworthy, some demon name dropping and so on. This is where the book made me roll my eyes so hard, I lost the good mood from the first half.

—>>> Two well-known names of scripture origin, Cain and Abel, are given feature roles in this dark and steamy paranormal story, both of whom are set on a course which will rock Ruby’s Demon Hunter world. Defeating the evil forces which appear to be gaining ground lately, and now taken captive by Cain, Ruby has to devise a way to not become a pawn in his machinations. Ruby is a demon hunter, trained from a very young age. She kills vampires, werewolves, and anything else that escapes from Hell. She encounters Cain, the first vampire, and her destiny is to be his queen. She's drawn to him and she's powerless to stop it. He wants to break her, and in the end, she welcomes it.
Sara Fields has put her own unique twist on this dark fantasy. It's hot and captivating. Once again, she's written a book that will be read again and again.

Wow! “Thirst” was a very dark paranormal romance that I couldn’t put down. Definitely heed the Author’ warning, because it is no joke. For me, this was a very hard book to read on one hand, but on the other, I wanted to find out how the ups and downs, twists and turns in the power exchanges between Ruby and Cain ended. An amazing, yet, scary book. I will continue to read Ms Sara Fields’ novels. She takes me on a fantastic journey every time I open her novels.

A gripping and fantastical paranormal storyline going back to characters from the beginning of time, as soon as Cain spots his mark on Ruby's shoulder his original plan to punish her turns into a game of seduction, at the first opportunity she gets though she spectacularly turns the tables on him in her own feisty manner. Throw in a character from Cain's past who is determined to cause problems making it a great read, loved it.
