Eric Gordon Hill OBE was a popular author and illustrator of children's picture books, best known for his character Spot the Dog. His works have been widely praised for their contributions to child literacy. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2008 New Year Honours.

Not a bad read about a parent trying to get their child to go to bed while the child resists at every step, though: Just Go to Bed by the insanely talented Mercer Mayer—has the exact same formula, as well as more creative scenarios and imagery. If you have to chose, go with the latter.

However, if you see this book among a pile of free books (like I did), then go wild. One can never have too many books. Well, this one can't, anyway.

A wonderful read from my childhood, one I’d certainly suggest for other youngsters. Whilst it is not my all-time favourite childhood read I can still recall all the details of this one meaning it certainly left a lasting impression upon my young mind.

And isn’t that what we want with children’s books, for them to leave a positive lasting impression?

This was areal step forward for spot the plot was actually there and intriguing for a youngster. The illustrations were their normal cuteness but the story line was so much better than other spot books I have read to my boy.

This was a great little book for a very tired V just before bed. Very simplistic, quick and easy read. Accompanied by great illustrations!
