It has been seven years since the attack that cost Earth its freedom. Seven years since Emily and Christian were killed. Bruised, shaken, and covered in blood, David sews up his injuries and prepares for another day of training, but his plans are upended when a stranger offers a surer path to vengeance. To succeed, David must travel to strange planets, recruit a crew of hostile aliens, and get himself thrown into prison so he can break out the galaxy’s most dangerous prisoner. He will complete this mission even if it costs him his life.
Elsewhere, on the planet Canteli, Hanla is her beleaguered nation’s top military engineer, but she’s also a princess, and the greatest service she can do her people is creating an alliance through marriage. Instead, she is forced to go on the run, framed for a murder that might start a war.
Hanla’s and David’s paths will cross. He seeks revenge, she seeks to expose the truth, but neither can succeed until they learn that the things they want are the same.

Readers’ Comments “This is a superb space opera. The author is an accomplished writer who seems to understand what a sci-fi audience wants: strong pacing, charismatic characters, and an interesting futuristic world.” Male reader, age 47 “A powerful story of revenge set in a world where the earth has been subdued by an alien invasion. It was interesting that the author did not go for the typical ‘battle for earth’ type story, but for a personal story of revenge. The character development, particularly the central protagonist, is excellent, and the author's vivid descriptive prose helped put across the futuristic setting.” Female reader, age 51 “A solidly written sci-fi thriller; I very much hope the author is planning more books in this genre. I would happily read them.” Male reader, age 27 “If you happen to be a sci-fi fan, I'd very much recommend this book to you. It's dark, gritty, and packed full of interesting characters. To Sum It Up: ‘A superbly crafted space opera with strong characterization. A finalist and highly recommended!’ The Wishing Shelf Book Awards
This book, Preons: Alpha is a sci-fi story where David, the main character is an agent that is set to defend the earth and is sent on the quest to put together the best possible crew. In his path he meets Hanla who was accused of murder, and they start to work side by side. This story is breathtaking, it has it all. The number of details Stevens manages to put in the story is incredible. It makes the narrative come to life, and you actually believe you have an elephant-sized scorpion in front of you. The characters are complex yet easy to understand and relate to. David makes you love and hate him all at the same time, and you can easily catch the kind of humor the author is going for and paint a clear picture of the many alien species he has to come across with. This is an excellent and fun book to read! I'm looking forward to the next one!!
One thing I loved about Preons: alpha by Frederik T. Stevens is that the story itself is very unique. I haven't read a plot like this before so it was refreshing to me when I read this book. At first I thought I wouldn't like it because of the setting but after a while I found out that it's even more interesting than I thought. I loved the premise as well as the main characters.
The book was well written and the setting was described in an amazing way. It felt like I was there the entire time. I just thought at at times some things are a bit heavy and difficult to understand but it didn't affect my level of enjoyment in this book. David, the main character, made me feel enthusiastic to read it until the end because his quest for revenge was interesting. And there were action scenes that wowed me, too!
Author Frederik T. Stevens is the author of this stunning novel called: “Preons: alpha”. It is a marvellous, creepy and wise story that is full of twists and turns which leave you speechless. I must say that he did a great job creating this new world that thankful to his amazing handwriting style you can imagine what he is describing and feel part of the story.

He will also meet Hanla, who will be an important partner in this operation.
I’m a science-fiction fan and I really liked this book because it has everything I want in a good story. It has got a fast moving plot, well-portrayed characters and a stimulating climax full of action. I made a great choice. Don’t miss it!
My first turn of page one it caught and kept my attention. The characters are well written and engaging and the storyline flowed easily throughout the pages.

What attractive cover! This was what first called my attention. Preons: alpha was written by Frederik T. Stevens. This is a futuristic tale that caught me reading at the edge of my seat. There are many good twists in the plot that surprised me and engaged me even more in the reading. The author created a story that was very good from beginning to end, without any dull moment. Moreover, the narrative is very good and simple in order that any reader can understand everything. Characters were carefully developed and described, giving the tale more importance. All in all, I liked the story very much due to its creativeness, its complex characters and great descriptions, that immersed me in the reading. I would certainly recommend reading it.
Preons: Alpha is set in a Star Wars-like universe populated by a myriad of strange creatures inhabiting even stranger planets. The storyline is centred mainly around the adventures of David, an extraordinary individual present at the invasion and subjugation of planet Earth, who is bent on revenge. David discovered some latent, extremely violent powers, during the invasion, and has spent the last seven years training and developing them on a planet where bloody gladiatorial tournaments to the death are a popular spectator sport. On the planet Canteli, Hanla is the King’s favoured princess who goes through a ceremony to wed a prince from a neighbouring powerful planet. It is a politically arranged, loveless match and she is shocked when later, after the ceremony, the groom stumbles into their bedchamber with a knife planted in his vital organs. As she removes the knife, and soldiers from the groom’s home planet beat on her door, she realises that being discovered holding a bloody knife over the dead body of her new husband will not look good, so makes a hasty escape through the castle’s secret tunnels.
David, concluding that he has learned as much as he can from his current trainer and mentor, challenges him to a final fight to the death. Victorious, he then leaves the planet to assemble a team which will enable him to exact his final revenge on the invaders of his home planet. Along the way he enlists Kosul, a massive warrior from the gladiatorial arenas, a spider-like creature who is a brilliant surgeon and who he manages to release from slavery, and a master swordsman whom he releases from prison. Soon the fortunes of David’s group become embroiled with those of the runaway princess who has been captured and sold into slavery, and the narrative races to a conclusion for most of the team back on Earth. Meanwhile, David has departed to a legendary planet in search of the last master, who will be able to teach him how to hone his powers and turn him into a truly invincible warrior.
As a fan of the sci-fi genre I was very much taken with Preons: Alpha. It is great space opera, with plenty of beautifully described action among strange and wonderful planets. Author Frederick Stevens is in possession of a prodigious imagination and writes with a light, sure-footed touch, presenting an astounding array of characters and situations with clarity and lucidity. In a narrative which spans numerous planets, involves a plethora of alien races and several plot threads, one never becomes lost in the detail. The book is a brilliant achievement and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The narrative leads to an open-ended conclusion which promises a second volume (Preons: Beta?) which I hope will come soon. Preons: Alpha is first-class science fiction - afficionados of the genre will not be disappointed.

“Preons: Alpha” by Frederik Stevens is an incredibly good sci-fi book that will take you to planets unknown and a journey that is simply unforgettable. The character development in “Preons: Alpha” is truly astounding, and the overall plotline is incredible. I truly appreciated how quickly this story dives into adventure; you don’t have to wait until the middle until it gets to the point. You will find yourself quickly immersed in the midst of this wondrous page-turner, pulled in quickly and you won’t want to see yourself out of the adventure. If you are seeking something to take you out of this world, this is the book for you.
Preons Alpha takes us on an epic adventure where the world is nothing that we know. Powerful empires battle for dominance and humans are still suffering for a galactic defeat. The battle is far from over as several young warriors get back on their feet and do everything they can in order to survive long enough to complete the mission. I am personally a big fan of space things as well as anything involving the apocalypse. Especially in this day in age, I feel as though there are tons of horrible things going wrong that give you an inspiration to read these books. What if an aggressive alien race took over the world and destroyed everything we know. Well, this novel is an exciting way to fill you appetite for these kind of questions. F. T. Stevens features an amazing and relatable cast of characters you’ll be cheering for the whole time.
Are you on the search for a fascinating science or military-fiction story? If so, this book by Frederik T. Stevens might be something to check out.
In this book, Stevens tells of how Earth lost its freedom during a deadly encounter with a powerful empire. While many died during the fight, a few survived, such as David. David has lost almost everything, including his family, making him filled with rage. While he trains each day to try to prepare himself to fight against the enemy, he is soon given an alternative route to get revenge. With this idea, David must travel to the enemy’s planet, ask aliens for assistance, and then work to free one of the most dangerous criminals from the galaxy's prison. Along the way, he meets Hanla, a secret princess, who is also one of the planet’s top military engineers. While hostile at first, they learn they must work together if they ever hope to succeed with their plans.
At 214 pages, it might take some time to read, but thanks to Stevens’ captivating writing style, those pages will fly by.
In the future, humankind has been subjected to alien overlordship. Those who survived now live in dark times. David has lost his friends in the invasion, and now, through intense training, he seeks to avenge his lost loved ones. On the planet Cantali, Hanla, top military engineer and princess, is accused of murdering her husband on their wedding night. She goes on the run, seeking to expose the truth for what it is. Their paths cross, and they realize their goals of truth and revenge might be one and the same. What will they do to ensure that their hopes are realized? Will they succeed? Will they get their revenge?
Author Frederik Stevens pens a riveting, violent novel about the search for revenge and truth. The setting and plot is pretty typical of the science fiction genre, but I found Stevens’ writing quite readable, unlike other authors who tend to saturate their writing with detail that goes above and beyond the heads of many readers. Stevens, on the other hand, excellently builds his world, adding details here and there, but also explaining along the way. I never felt lost as I read this novel, and I look forward to checking out more in the Preons series.
Preons: alpha by Frederik T. Stevens is a science fiction book that depicts quite a devastating future for our Earth. My first thought after (and even during) reading this book was that it was written with quite a lot of graphic detail, including descriptions of guts and blood. Sometimes, I felt like the graphic writing was a little too much for my liking. Still, for other readers who do not mind that kind of graphic writing, the story may be much more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this book for young adults as I think this is the population of people that would be most intrigued by the story. I will say that it was obvious while reading this book that the author put in a lot of attention to detail and really thought through his story while writing it. It was well-written and entertaining. Overall, I would recommend this book to any young adult who enjoys science fiction books that take place in the future.
The world has changed and with it the lives of Hanla and David. Their paths crossed, not knowing that they were both looking for the same thing. They are the protagonists of this science fiction novel called "Preons: alpha", written by author Frederik T. Stevens. What I liked the most about this novel was the plot. While there are many science fiction stories, this one, in my opinion, is different. I believe that several factors contribute to this story being unique. This book has vivid descriptions of battle scenes, which makes it a full action packed novel. Moreover the world building is fantastic, fresh and original. All in all I think the author's writing style is simple and concise and I believe that this book is intended for young adults.
“Preons: Alpha” by Frederik T. Stevens is a gripping, fast-paced adventure through incredibly designed and imaginative worlds. This book has everything: unique creatures I’ve never read about before or seen in movies, adventure, action, revenge, murder, magic… there’s not a boring page in the book. Our protagonist is David, slightly human but mostly everything else. He’s the boogeyman; the creature of everyone in the universe’s nightmares. Just the mention of the monster he can transform into causes people to shake in their boots. And he’s out for revenge. While he’s on his path to destroy anyone in his way, Hanla, a princess and military engineer, is being framed for a murder she didn’t commit that would cause intergalactic war. Her intelligent mind catches on quickly and she runs for her life. Along the way, she meets David. Together, they might just be able to find the truth she needs to save herself and her world, and he might be able put the past in the past where it belongs.
I did enjoy Preons: alpha as it was a sweet combo of science fiction and a little drama. I can enjoy the novelesque aspect of a story where the story gets deep enough for you to relate. I enjoyed reading this one, at the beginning where characters were being developed and then on when the two protagonists finally meet and later on realize that they need to work together.
The narrative was great, the story was enticing and creative. I really loved the complexity given to the characters and the settings. Not to mention the extreme detail of action scenes, which I truly enjoyed. Someone mentioned that they are pretty graphic, but I did no think so.
Overall, a nice story. At the beginning, I would roll my eyes at the weird names and stuff, but then, the way the story develops makes it really interesting. If you are a sci-fi lover like myself, give this one a try. I'm sure you will enjoy it.
This Sci-Fi is an action-adventure with a little romance (cue entrance of the Princess Leia type character to match her Hans Solo fighter). I really enjoyed the story, despite some of the overused plot tropes which are so common in SciFi/Fantasy, because the World Building is so immersive. The plot swirls around revenge and conspiracy in a save-the-world from evil trope, but the characters interactions were good and the ideas were well formed. it was a bit gory for my taste, but that did give it a real-world feeling instead of a family-friendly drama. Overall, a fun read for SciFi fans who don't mind recurrent plot devices or character archetypes.
Fredrik T. Stevens’ “Preons: alpha” falls under the science/engineer fiction but it really goes beyond that. David, the main character, is more than the typical hero. He is rough around the edges and has a personality that could make readers wonder if they like him or hate him. It’s part revenge, adventure and a sprinkling of romance too. Expect some darkness and gore, and also some moral dilemma in the mix. And oh, let’s not forget that cover---it’s very interesting! It’s almost like an optical illusion of sorts. Come to think of it, that characterizes David and the plot…you think you know what it’s about..but you realize there’s so much more.
This story, a Sci fi that exhibits some elements of mystery, holds some promise for the readers. The Earth has been reportedly defeated by the forces from other planets. However, David (the greatest military mind) who is expected to defend and resuscitate the Earth abandons the task. Instead, he is seeking revenge against Hanla, a top military engineer from another planet named Canteli. What the two of them do not seem to understand is that they should be working together instead of working against each other. A tale full of bloodshed, betrayals, and lies. I think the actions in the novel are very enigmatic and turn the book into a spellbinding page-turner. And its characters are vividly memorable. A sensational read.
The review by Kristi Elizabeth of the San Francisco Book Review sums up Preons: Alpha perfectly. “Filled with alien-type characters and transports, DNA-destroying potions, and powerful warriors at every turn, Preons: Alpha gives the reader graphic battle scenes, insurmountable AI, and an intense storyline from beginning to end. Fans of science fiction will truly love Preons: Alpha and David’s undying passion and strong will.” There’re simply no additional words to add. It’s been breathtaking. Thumbs up to the author. PS: The book's blurb i.e. quick summary on book's page etc. does nothing for the book. Preons: Alpha is much more than what's described. Thumbs up to the author.
Do not expect to find snappy banter, feel-good romance, or excessive amounts of angst while reading this book. It is old-style space opera, written in a style that harkens back to early Asimov or Frederick Pohl. The focus is on the big picture: interstellar intrigue, mad science, and individuals so skilled and talented that they are super-beings. Yet they are super-beings with flaws, somewhat human motivations, and weaknesses that can be exploited. There are aliens never before seen in fiction and a substance that drives the whole of it. If you are looking for plenty of action, palace intrigue, and world-building, this book will not disappoint. It is set up for several potential sequels, so “follow” Stevens to look for the next read coming up. The web address for short stories and updates is at the end of the book.
What a read! This book got me reading at the edge of my seat with every turn of the page. The cover is powerful enough to show that the story within the pages would be great, and after reading it I knew I was right. It is a futuristic tale that lacks nothing; it has a very good plot, well rounded and developed characters and great descriptions. It is the first book that I read by this author but after this great experience I am sure it will not be the last. I recommend reading Preons because it takes you to a rollercoaster of emotions.
No sooner had I started reading than I felt immersed in this futuristic universe depicted by F. T Stevens. Seven years after the Earth has been attacked and invaded, David , one of the few survivors, finds the perfect chance to avenge the death of his two best friends. I see David as the perfect example of determination and commitment and I felt identified with him several times.
This sci-fi story is captivating as it has amazing action scenes and its twists are thrilling.F. T Stevens has successfully illustrated a fantasy world where aliens, transformations and communication planted devices are common. Steven’s narrations of the battle scenes were definitely my favourite ones. Although no personal background of the author is given, I can see that he is creative and definitely talented.
Preons: Alpha is a futuristic story written by Frederik Stevens. It presents a picture of what Earth would be like if colonized by aliens.
Revenge is the main theme of the story. It is vengeance what makes the main characters of the story cross their paths. David seeks for justice and is willing to bear any burden in order to avenge his friends. Henla is both the best engineer in her nation and a princess, but she is forced to abscond due to an inconvenient confusion.
The story is written in the third person; we get to know how characters feel and think. The settings are well described and the cutting-edge technological devices used by the characters are well explained, too. Thus, I found the plot easy to follow.
Although the main events in this book do not seem original, I recommend it because it makes an entertaining reading.
Preons: alpha is an originally crafted piece of literature set in the future, where things have not gone well since the Earth has been invaded and slaughters are taking place. David, the main character has been amazingly characterised by Stevens and the whole story revolves around him in a dialogue-based manner. Though futuristic and intriguing, the plot unfolds naturally and the grammar and vocabulary are simple and adapts to the nature of the theme. The main events that occur throughout the different chapters are very descriptive and straightforward. So, if you like blunt tales of blood and battle, this one is for you. As I like blunt tales of blood and battle, this one was great for me. However, I think it has been specially written for teens and young adults. I absolutely enjoyed it!
I found myself bored at home, wanting to pick up some reading and searching for a good story. Frederik T. Stevens’s new book is exactly what I was looking for. His debut novel in the Space Opera genre has the whole package. The story in this book is fast moving, easy to read and, most importantly, wildly entertaining. What I enjoyed the most about this book was the main character, David, and the passion he has seeking revenge for the deaths of his beloved friends all over the galaxy . I’ll be looking forward to reading more from this author in the future. I highly recommend this book to all fans of space science fiction and I give it well deserved five stars.
What captivated me was the fact that the main topic in this novel is revenge at its finest. In this sci-fi book the author delivered an action-packed storyline; he used very descriptive scenes for us to really bubbled ourselves into the scenario where everything is happening. Revenge is going to be also the link between these two characters, David and Hanla, with what it seems different aims but at the end they will have to work together to achieve them.
It was a really good read; I enjoyed the details the author put in the narrative making the read very colorful and fresh, at least that was what I felt while reading it. To sum up, I must say that it was a very fun read.
From time to time, I like to read a Science Fiction book. I usually enjoy intricate plots and fantastic characters. In this case, “Preons: alpha” accomplished my expectations with an interesting story and complex characters, but on top of that, I found a cunningly designed world building: a universe of powerful empires, where battles take place, and where aliens and humans live together (or fight each other). All scenes and characters are perfectly and in detail described. I could really feel into that futuristic reality.
All in all, this is a superb galactic thriller that I strongly recommend to all science fiction lovers. It managed to surpass my high expectations and was even more than I expected.
The premise of Preons: Alpha really drew me in, and I wasn’t disappointed. Not only do I love a good story about vengeance, but essentially we follow David through his journey to learn that vengeance isn’t the only aim. He’s lost significant family, and has refocused his entire life on training, infiltrating, fighting and ultimately, bringing down everything that ruined his life. Now if that were just the story, it’d be pretty dry. Of course there’s more.
David finds a princess on the run from a political marriage and on the path for the truth. Hanla is probably my favorite character. She’s not just dedicated to her people, but she wants to expose everything. The world-building is fantastic! The sci-fi elements were intense, and the violence wasn’t simply for gore factor. Overall, a great read excellent for anyone who enjoys sci-fi. You want to see David succeed, but his growth process and the handful of defeats he experiences only go to show how much trauma he experienced.
I was first attracted by the cover, but then, as soon as I started reading, I realized that the plot was very captivating. This futuristic novel got me reading at the edge of my seat more than once, and this is something I look for in a good read. The author did a great job describing the events, scenes and also the characters, who were very well portrayed. Also, the storyline was very well developed from the first to the last pages. There were no details left to chance. This is a book that I will certainly recommend reading because I liked it from beginning to end.
