A defenseless old man is brutally gunned down in a gang initiation ritual and the shooters simply stroll away, laughing. They’re so proud that they even post a video of it online.
Horrified by the viciousness of the attack, rogue assassin Tess Williams storms after the killers to claim vengeance. But she’s distressed by more than just this old man’s murder. Memories haunt her. Memories of a murder long ago. A murder which turned her into the killing machine she is today.
Though she knows she should walk away from this job, Tess leaves a trail of bloody carnage in her wake as she hunts the killers, craving justice for the victim, for his family, and last but not least, for herself. Battling inner demons and gun-toting psychos alike, she’s determined to end the murderers, or die trying.
But tortured by the nightmares from her past, she can’t focus. And crazed gangbangers snatch their chance to make her bleed. How can she bury these brutal killers before they bury her?
Steve has three passions: anti-heroes, animals, and travel. To date, he's visited 60 countries and has adopted five homeless cats, but he's yet to prowl the streets in the dead of night to beat up bad guys (though he still daydreams about doing so, but who doesn't?).
In pursuit of adventure, he's cage-dived with great white sharks, sparred with a monk at a Shaolin temple, and explored exotic locales such as Machu Picchu, Pompeii, and the Great Wall of China.
Fortunately, his passions fuel his fiction. He loves to pepper his action-packed thrillers with the exotic places he's explored and the unusual encounters he's experienced, while his dog stories glow with the love and companionship that will warm the heart of any animal lover.
More recently, while on his travels, Steve came across two true stories from the Holocaust which moved him so deeply, he has based two novels on them.
He lives in the North of England with his partner, Ania, the great-great-great niece of the 1924 winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, and two stray black cats who visited their garden one day and liked it so much, they moved into the house. Luckily, they graciously allowed Steve and Ania to carry on living there, even allowing Steve to continue paying the mortgage to give him a sense of purpose.
If you love stories of four-legged heroes, tales from histories darkest hour, or books with pulse-pounding action, you'll love Steve's three series. He wrote them for book lovers just like you! Another awesome story from Mr. Lee. Once again Tess is up to the challenge taking care of the bad guys. In this story we really get to delve into her mind and see what really motivates her and also what baggage she is carrying around. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as much as the others in this series. You should really be reading these.
Another great 'episode' in this vigilante series, which sees Tess deal with a brutal crime, one that brings her past threading through her emotions.
I love this character, a strong, single-minded yet vunerable woman, whose life is about bringing justice to the world.
We have yet to know more about Bomb, a friend who appears to know her better than anyone, perhaps even herself and her tragic past, which seems to be catching up with her...an intriguing thought.
There is also something else, someone else, who has her heart in a tangle - what will she decide?
I enjoy Tess' philosophy on life, where responsibility and choice are seen to be vital elements to living and how her thirst for what is right dictates her choices, regardless of the consequences...but will those very choices destroy her?
A good fast-paced well written read with a great plot and characters. Left on a twist, this story leaves you wanting more. And I love to see justice for the invisible.
5 Stars!! Tess, Vigilante, stalks into the fifth book of this series, wielding her weapons of discipline, training, and her body as both a sexual tool and as a weapon. I loved seeing more personal details about her emotional issues. I love the fact that the author revealed very realistic insight to STRONG VICTIMS!! They overcome obstacles that would cripple weaker persons!! We've had short views into Tess's previous life in each of the previous books. We know that she was a victim, will always be a victim, with incredible emotional difficulties that never leave true victims. Her strength lies in her amazing ability to work with her limitations!! Tess is beginning to splinter a bit at times in this book as she faces her own demons, and literal death several times. This is the Best book of the series--so far, anyway!!!!
Every Angel of Darkness gets better than the previous. Kick ass female avenging angel, non-stop action, vengeance like we all would like to dispense. What more can you want besides having the next book in your reading queue.
I am not a violent person but I'm so glad Tess is. I get to live vicariously through her actions against the scum of the earth. Sadly, Tess does it because she has no choice. Her vengeance is deeply seeded in her background. I no sooner finish one book and I'm ready for the next.
Another brilliant story with the usual violence and going after the bad guys when the police can’t resolve or just give up on but Tess has her own thoughts on justice. Revenge her style! This time Tess hears about a senseless murder of a Chinese storekeeper and his dog in his convenience store. The murder brings back terrible memories of Tess own fathers murder and the reason behind why she has chosen this wrong. She befriends along the way but also deals or uses any low life that gets in her way – "Three Choses". A well written story and the more you read about Tess and her life the more you come to understand her and why she reacts the way she does. She is always on the lookout for her father’s murderer and it is always somewhere there in the back of her mind. Will she ever track him down or will the past bring her down. These Tess Williams thrillers take you on a journey you can’t stop reading! Read the book from page one to the end, today!
Book 5 of the Angel of Darkness Series gives more details as to why Tess has chosen the path of a Vigilante. The senseless killing of a Chinese shopkeeper and his dog has Tess reliving the horror she felt at the murder of her grandfather in his store. A murder she witnessed as an eleven year old child. Mourning Scars for me, would have to be the most emotional of the Series so far. Against her better judgement and training, Tess lets her emotions get the better of her and almost gets herself killed, twice! Mourning Scars will keep you on the edge of your seat. Happy reading. Mourning Scars was the perfect name for this skillfully written book. Steve N Lee brought a thrilling read in this book...well in all his books for this series but the intensity and buildup of scenes in this one had me reeling and sitting on the edge of my chair. Mr Lee knows how to tell a story to max out mystery, intrigue, great plot and great sub plots, and ends with a BANG too. All in one book. Amazing reading. I HIGHLY recommend this book.
I preordered this book and was very much looking forward to reading it, as I had really enjoyed the previous books. Although I believe Mr.Lee is a talented writer, I was a bit let down with this book. First, I don't see Tess as a victim, but a survivor. To bestow on her the sexual hangups is rather insulting to her character. Can't we have a strong woman who owns who she is, sexually and all, without the common misconception of, "once a victim, always a victim"? I don't recall Dirty Harry, James Bond or the like realizing after a consensual sexual experience that they just didn't enjoy it and would have to fake it better next time. (You know, because they still needed all the snuggles.) I would like more Tura Satana and less "if she could just love and be loved." I did like the comparison (intentional?) To Thomas Hardy's, Tess of the D'Urbervilles. I look forward to reading the next installment and I hope that I'm not disappointed.
