Dubbed “The Butcher” by the press, a psycho is hacking up children on a sick killing spree and dumping body parts around the city.
Sickened by the killings, rogue assassin Tess Williams spearheads her own investigation. With the most unlikely of allies, she storms through the city, hunting the killer before he can strike again. However, things aren’t what they seem and every lead Tess follows only slams her into another dead end. Her only chance of nailing him seems to lie in solving the nightmarish mystery that envelopes him like a burial shroud.
And then the stakes get even higher – the Butcher snatches another little girl. With the clock ticking, Tess has no choice but to risk everything and race-against-time to rescue the child before the Butcher dismembers another victim.
But reckless actions often have dire consequences. What price will Tess have to pay?
Steve has three passions: anti-heroes, animals, and travel. To date, he's visited 60 countries and has adopted five homeless cats, but he's yet to prowl the streets in the dead of night to beat up bad guys (though he still daydreams about doing so, but who doesn't?).
In pursuit of adventure, he's cage-dived with great white sharks, sparred with a monk at a Shaolin temple, and explored exotic locales such as Machu Picchu, Pompeii, and the Great Wall of China.
Fortunately, his passions fuel his fiction. He loves to pepper his action-packed thrillers with the exotic places he's explored and the unusual encounters he's experienced, while his dog stories glow with the love and companionship that will warm the heart of any animal lover.
More recently, while on his travels, Steve came across two true stories from the Holocaust which moved him so deeply, he has based two novels on them.
He lives in the North of England with his partner, Ania, the great-great-great niece of the 1924 winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, and two stray black cats who visited their garden one day and liked it so much, they moved into the house. Luckily, they graciously allowed Steve and Ania to carry on living there, even allowing Steve to continue paying the mortgage to give him a sense of purpose.
If you love stories of four-legged heroes, tales from histories darkest hour, or books with pulse-pounding action, you'll love Steve's three series. He wrote them for book lovers just like you! Predator Mine has an interesting, yet, bizarre plot. This book is definitely one that you will be unable to put down until you see how it will end!
We see the series' vigilante, Tess, as physically intimidating as always; but she's beginning to feel emotionally out of control. She is beginning to have emotional attachments to a man in her life, as well as a child that she meets in the story. Tess is incredibly agitated, and distracted by these feelings. The book travels through several high impact situations where her distraction is beginning to impact her fighting skills.
I love the fact that our tough, practically unstoppable heroine, is becoming more introspective!!
Another great read in this vigilante series, although it's more psychologically disturbing, due to this particular subject matter.
Crazy is portrayed extremely well, as is the suffering of the victim...I don't give spoilers, so I cannot say too much. But gripping and traumatic.
Tess is a brilliant character; a mixture of strength, determination, compassion and vulnerability. I really enjoy how she tackles the yob element and of course the villains in these tales, but this story piles on that sense of guilt and lack of value that continues to haunt her. That was sad and I am not sure if it was necessary - certainly suspenseful with a twist but I can understand, because it possibly lends itself to a future state of mind. (Trying not to give anything away but I had to comment on the 'why that way').
Now her past is catching up - what will happen? I look forward to finding out.
Overall, a well written story, with a great easy style that packs a punch.
I absolutely love these books. I think it's due to the fact that the bad guy doesn't win. Tess is what I would want as a best friend. I'd hide her, lie for her or help her if she needed it. She makes me root for her all the time. I read these books in one sitting because I have to know who gets it next.
This series of books rates up in the very top of excellent books that I have read. Once again Tess does what she does best except there's a twist you won't see coming. Again we get an even deeper insight into what made Tess the woman she is and more of what haunts her.
A city held hostage to fears for their children as body parts show up everywhere as a serial killer goes about his dastardly deeds. Plot is exemplary and so are characters, who are portrayed so life like. Predator Mine book Steve N Lee presents is so so finally written as Mr. Lee has honed his writing craft to a sharp edge! Predator Mine leaves nothing to the imagination and puts it all out there to take the reader of the book on a very scary path as things begin to unfold about the serial killer who is at work. Great story, great ending too, which I had not suspected. Can never predict Mr. Lee’s endings, just like you cannot predict ahead to what is going to happen as you read. Just allow yourself to be captured by Mr. Lee and be led on a great great read as this vigilante justice story WILL take you there all on its own and the rewards will follow. The accompanying Black Files book that goes with Predator Mine, is also awesome! I can easily HIGHLY recommend this one by Steve N Lee as a great read ride. ENJOY!!
This would have to be the most nail biting, suspenseful book of the Angel of Darkness series yet. Towards the end of Predator Mine, I found myself reading with my heart in my mouth. There is so much more I would love to say but it would give too much away and I hate 'spoilers'. You'll just have to trust me and read it yourself. Happy reading. Annemarie
