The Christmas season is a very busy time, and Spot knows that as well as anyone else. Everyone in Spot's house has something to do: there's the tree to put up and decorate, presents to make and wrap, and Mom needs Spot's help in the kitchen. Spot is so excited, keeping a sharp eye out for any flying reindeer, he almost forgets to leave milk and cookies for Santa!
Eric Gordon Hill OBE was a popular author and illustrator of children's picture books, best known for his character Spot the Dog. His works have been widely praised for their contributions to child literacy. He was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2008 New Year Honours.
Spot prepares for a secular Christmas by singing with carolers, decorating the Christmas tree, making cookies, making cards, wrapping presents, hanging up a stocking, and leaving milk and cookies for Santa Claus. The story ends with Spot discovering his stocking is full of gifts and the milk and cookies are gone.
This is our seven-month-old's current favourite book. He loves the colours, it's very very short and he can turn the pages. It also relates to what is going on in his life, and Spot is a favourite of his anyway. I just wish it had turn-down flaps.
I have vague memories of the videos from when I was a kid but had never tried to the books before. I like the simple designs and sentence form. Really pleasant.
Who doesn’t love Spot? Spot’s pictures are bright, the lines are crisp and the text is short and easy to read. I love the bold black print of the text and this easy to read text makes Spot books a gem for children to read. I like Spot book and I like his videos. In this book, Spot is excited about Christmas and is doing many of the activities associated with this holiday with his family and his friends. Baking cookies, decorating the tree, singing songs and wrapping his presents are a few of the things Spot does. Spot is always sporting a smile and doing his best even though some of these activities can get messy. Before going to bed, like most children, Spot puts out some cookies and milk for Santa. In the morning, father and mother greet Spot with smiles and cheers for a Merry Christmas as Spot checks to see if Santa enjoyed his evening treat. I want to thank YABC for a copy of this novel for I received this book as a part of YABooksCentral.com 12 Days of Christmas. This is my own opinion of this children’s book.
This was a fairly lackluster book, which really I probably ought to have expected as this is a holiday spin-off book. Spot, a popular character of his own book series and television series, performs some of the acts of celebration surrounding Christmas: decorating the tree, singing carols, baking cookies and cake, hanging stockings. He knows Santa came because the stockings are full in the morning. Other than being an adorable roly-poly puppy and fairly expressive, there was little story, no moral, and not much really to say.
I think I like this Spot Christmas book better. Not sure why. Maybe because the copy was more pristine than the other. Or because the possibilities for toddler were more fun. Yet I think I'll pass on the storytime option because I don't want to overdo the Christmas/holiday part.
Pretty sure this is the Spot Christmas book we read at the store. Its simplicity makes it a nice book for explaining Christmas traditions to youngest readers.
A short story about how Spot gets ready for Christmas. Typical of the Spot books, lots of bright illustrations and simple text about what Spot is doing.
