Charlotte's ex just gate-crashed her vacation.

The Island Escape Series: Book 1
Celebrity blogger Charlotte Jones is having a bad year. She's been trampled in a riot, her therapist has told her to take a break from work, and she's developed a crushing case of anxiety. If she can just make it to her holiday hotel in Oahu, everything will be okay … or not! When she boards her plane, she finds herself strapped into a seat next to the man who sold her out nine years ago.

Hotel executive Jack Diamond is having a bad year. He's used to pressure: running the global family business, supporting his widowed mother, and trying (and failing) to make his little sister understand why her grungy boyfriend is bad news, are problems he can cope with. But the police just called to tell him his general manager might be a crook, his mother's had a stroke, and his latest business deal is going bad. If he can just make it back to the family hotel in Oahu, everything will be okay … or not! He boards his plane and finds himself strapped into a seat next to the woman who ripped a hole in his heart nine years ago.

Jack and Charlotte are in for some turbulence as old hurts and rekindled passion gate-crash their plans. And just when it seems they may finally overcome their past, a tropic storm threatens to wipe out their chance of a future.

One misunderstanding after another after another. Charlotte and Jack parted ways ten years ago when Jack's father called on him to return home from London. Charlotte, young and idealistic, accused Jack of being a sell out, and frustrated Jack couldn't understand why she would not give him a chance to explain. Ten years later, after a chance meeting on a plane to Hawaii, they are still angry and hurt and each blaming the other for the breakup.

The story is set at a resort on Oahu, which unbeknownst to Charlotte is owned by Jack's family, and the author does a wonderful job with the descriptions of the resort and it's surroundings, especially the lava caves and a storm. There is a lot of internal monologuing from both characters, and as the reader, being privy to both sides of the story, there were times when I wanted to shake one or both of them and tell them to talk it out. Or shut up and let the other one talk. Even when it seems that everything has been resolved and the HEA is on it's way, there is one more misunderstanding to drive Charlotte and Jack apart, which made the final resolution that much sweeter.

Along the way there is also a short subplot about Jack and a detective investigating an employee for possible identity theft, which was resolved almost immediately and which I would've liked to have had more of, and Jack agonizing over his nineteen-year-old sister and her inappropriately older boyfriend. Meanwhile Charlotte has her own issues, having come to Hawaii for some rest and relaxation and attempting to overcome panic attacks she has recently been plagued with.

The characterization is nicely done, and I liked both Charlotte and Jack, though I think I connected with Jack a little more than with Charlotte. Although that could be because I do often tend to be more drawn to the hero than the heroine! I also really liked Jack's mother, and having raised two daughters I felt his sister was an accurate representation of an exasperating nineteen year old who is still a teen but thinks she's all grown up.

I read most of the book in one sitting, as the further I got into it the more I was drawn in, impatiently waiting for Jack and Charlotte to get past their issues and finally come together, and the wait was worth it in the end!

Tropic Storm is book one in the Island Escape series by Stella Quinn. Her therapist told celebrity blogger Charlotte Jones to have a break from work and her routine before her anxiety worsens. So Charlotte Jones decided to have a holiday in Oahu, and her worst nightmare, Jack Diamond, sat next to her on the plane. Charlotte Jones thought that was the end of bad luck. However, she was wrong. A tropical storm hit the restore. Will the storm destroy the idea of Jack and Charlotte getting together, or will it ensure they forget their past and make a future together? The readers of Tropic Storm will continue to follow Jack and Charlotte to discover what happens.

Tropic Storm is another fantastic book by Stella Quinn, and I had no problem engaging with this book's characters and plot. I love Stella Quinn's portrayal of her characters and the way they interact with each other throughout this book. Tropic Storm is well-written and researched by Stella Quinn, and I like Stella Quinn's description of the settings of Tropic Storm that completed the book's plot.

Tropic Storm readers will learn the importance of ensuring you look after your health. Also, readers will understand the power of tropical storms and the devastation that they cause.

I recommend this book.

Stella Quinn, ‘Tropic Storm’.
The Island Escape Series, book 1.

As a Hidden Gems ARC reader I received a free copy and promised an honest review. Here it is.

Rating: 3,5 (of 5 stars).

In general: A second chance love with a lot of misunderstanding.

Main characters:
- Charlotte Jones.
She lives in London and is a successful journalist and blogger working for Bella Magazine.

- Jack Diamond.
CEO of the Jewel Resort Group a chain of vacation resorts all over the world, owned by his family.

Charlotte and Jack met for the first time nine years ago in London. And had a stormy love affair. She was very young (19) and idealistic and admired Jack, then a talented, ambitious guitar player. She had broken with her parents, who had a nasty divorce due to thinking that much money was the most important thing in life. So she was devastated that Jack suddenly left London when his father, owner of a big vacation resorts chain, asked him to return to his Hawaï home to help him save the family company. She thought that Jack was as materialistic as her her parents and they had a big fight when he left.
Jack’s dad died shortly after his return and for years he was very busy as the CEO of the growing family company. Charlotte stayed in London to become a famous journalist and blogger. But both couldn’t forget their love.
The author, Stalla Quinn, starts the novel when Charlotte has a break down, being the victim of a hooligan riot in England. She needs a vacation. She chooses Hawaï. And - very accidentally (??!) - meets Jack at the departure gate of her flight, is placed in the seat next to him in the plane and turns out to have booked in Jack’s family resort. Then the author describes how Jack and Charlotte first maintain their misunderstanding about the reasons for their former break-up, but gradually start to understand that a lot of their mistrust was due to youth and prejudices.
Fortunately at the end - after a lot of complications - they find their HEA. Most of those complications could have been avoided if the main characters earlier had told what they really thought, but the author created a lot of events to prevent that. For me it made the story not always very credible.
But all in all, the book was for this reader an easy to read page turner with interesting characters and a plot in an exotic, enjoyable environment.

I loved this book! Tropic Storm is a second-chance romance novel that follows the love story between Charlotte and Jack, young lovers who parted ways on a misunderstanding and rekindle years later.

Tropic Storm is a short read but it really sucks you in. The characters are well developed and the chemistry is off the charts. Highlights for me included the sparks between Charlotte and Jack, the mystery subplot (which made the book more interesting than a straight romance, even if it was resolved in an anti-climactic way), Charlotte and Jack's personalities, and the adult tone (there were some sex scenes but they were brief and non-explicit, more realistic than an erotic novel).

I read this book in just a few hours and almost wish it was a little longer to develop some of the other characters more and flesh out the mystery. However, I'm very keen to read more of the Island Escape Series and would definitely recommend Tropic Storm if you're in the mood for a short, fulfilling and exciting read.

Note: I was kindly given an ARC of Tropic Storm in exchange for a review. However, all of the opinions expressed here are my own.

Celebrity blogger Charlotte needs a break from reality so she heads to Hawaii for a mini vacation. Her world is about to be turned upside though because she ends up being seated next to Jack on the airplane. Jack is a business owner/hotel executive and the man that Charlotte walked away from 9 years ago. Charlotte ends up getting off the plane and passing out in front of her driver. She winds up being taken to the hotel that Jack runs and her driver is Anna, Jacks sister.
Charlotte was relatable as a character and I really enjoyed the chemistry she had with Jack. I loved how easily she formed a relationship with Jacks mother/how well they got along. These two were fighting their feelings for each other pretty hard though.
Things kept happening at the hotel and Jack realized he needed Charlottes help. She realized she could develop another blog post or start a book while she’s there. Then a huge tropic storm hit and Jack realized he could have almost lost Charlotte like he lost his father. They finally were able to talk things out and confess how they felt about each other.
The ending was sweet and enjoyable. I’m not sure how soon I will read the rest of the series though.

Enjoyable read but...

It was an enjoyable read with only a handful of proofreading typographical errors that interrupt a good read, but if an author is going to use American characters, they need to convert the Brit-speak. We don't use row, windscreen, torch, straight away, or drink our wine by the liters. They need to use an American editor when they're out of their country element so that the words and thoughts of the American characters remain true to the American language. I find this more disruptive than typos and plot holes.

The only plot hole was that Margie had already assigned the guest room to Charlotte who used it to change and do makeup before the party, then only a few hours later, after the fund raiser, Margie assigned the same room to Sandra, the former fiance. The woman is not feeble minded, so we cannot give her that as an excuse. They have an entire resort of rooms so this mix up was quirky. The author should have explored a different avenue for the next instrumental blow up between Jack and Charlotte.

I really enjoyed this book. Jack and Charlotte's story is poignant, loveable and mostly...believable. Reconnecting with an old flame and the sparks igniting is probably better than a Cinderella story - who hasn't done the what ifs?
I really enjoyed the characters in this book, although I wanted to shake Charlotte at times to get her to speak up. The extended misunderstandings and sadness were drawn out a bit too much.
All turns out well in the end, and the plot, and connection between the characters wins the day.
Stella's refreshing approach to romance has me itching to read the next book!

Jack was the heartbreak that pushed her ahead to writing her successful blog about finding your happy. In her heart and her memory, he left her for family money. His memory was that family obligations called him home, and she moved on

Ghosts of family heartaches shaped both their perceptions

When they stumble on each other again, is his heart iced closed? Hers too bruised from recent traumatic events?

Thunderous and stormy romance

I enjoyed this second chance story about Jack and Charlotte. Ten years ago they were so happy together, and then Jack had to leave. Heart broken, Charlotte never got over how he could leave her. Jack was heartbroken that Charlotte could not understand why he needed to leave and go with him. Now they meet ten years later. I enjoyed the fireworks that happened between them as they both battled seeing each other again. Had too much time past and hearts too broken to try again? I sure enjoyed their journey as they figured it out.

I'm not always a fan of second chance romances, but the author did a great job making the story believable. They were young when their romance fizzled due to misunderstandings and assumptions, and now nine years later they are unexpectedly reunited. And its always fun when stories take place on tropical islands. It was a nicely paced read, and would recommend it to others. I'll have to pick up the next one in the series.

4.5 stars.

This is a really well written story that is packed full of emotions, misunderstandings, pain, hurt, regrets, loss, trauma, drama, mystery, crime, family, friends, lost love and being brave enough to go for your hearts desire as well as being truthful to yourself about who you are and who you want to be. I am looking forward to reading book two now.

A fun book set in Hawaii with a lot of interesting things going on. Charlotte is having some trouble with panic attacks after a traumatic incident and goes to Hawaii for some well deserved downtime. Only to discover she's staying at her ex's hotel - the ex she is still in love with. Things are about to get interesting.

Tropical Storm

An enjoyable read that kept me turning pages. Charlotte and Jack were made for each other, they were both stubborn and flew to conclusions without a second thought, it kept me amused.
This was a first Stella Quinn story for me singularly read more.

Requires a bit of patience

Interesting but frustrating when the characters are written to be so misunderstood, misunderstanding and obtuse. Did it have to be every character though? But eventually somebody bought a clue and figured it all out. End of story. The setting was nice.

This story wasn't bad, but a little drawn out and quite frankly, forgettable. Jack and Charlotte were apart more than they were together, so it was just hard to care much about them. I got a little bored and skim read tye last few chapters just to get it done. And the author is clearly British, because even the American parts were scattered woth British terminology (jack calling the wind shield of his car a wind screen, little things like that)

Absolutely loved this book and the characters. There is great romance, hilarity, family and a past history with the characters. That left my laughing, wanting to lock the characters in a room and wanting to see the ending. Definitely going to get the next one.

This is the prequel to Tropic Storm and tells how Charlotte and Jack met, fell in love, and how things ended with them. We get to meet her two best friends, Sabrina and Antonia, that are always there to cheer her up and have her back. This is a fast read, but all the individual stories are available for each girl on Amazon, starting with Charlotte and Jack’s second chance story in Tropic Storm.

Tropic Storm was an entertaining read that I really enjoyed. Nice story concept that was well written.

This is a book about second chances. Hearts were broken, feelings hurt, actions misunderstood causing heartache and despair for these individuals. Charlotte and Jack parted 10 years ago, and fate throws them together on a flight to Hawaii. Grudges are still held 10 years later, each blaming the other for their heartbreak. Misunderstandings keep occurring between them while in Hawaii causing more heartache and despair. They try so hard to fight the love they have for each other.

Nice story line. Great characters that I really enjoyed. I never could grow an emotional attachment to them, but I did enjoy their story. Nice dialogue and great visual description of details.

All in all, a good read.

Would I recommend this book? Yes

Would I read more from this author? Yes

This was a great read with characters you will love and want to throttle at same time as lordy they do love to conclusions lol. If you love second chance romances then this is the book for you, Charlotte decides to take a couple of weeks off on a tropical island to decompress and relax after a horrible event that left her with panic attacks, unfortunately for her things go wrong before she even gets on the plane and that is where we begin our adventure of tormented love, attraction, deception, laughs, frustrations and the chance at being happy. This is a fantastic start to this series and I can not wait the next book to see what happens with Sabrina!

Stella Quinn brings a story with enough humor to make it fun, enough conflict to keep it moving and enough heat to make it interesting.

Charlotte Jones and Jack Diamond were idealistic kids the first time they met. They were old enough to fall in love, but too young to know how to work through the obstacles. Separated for 10 years, both are stunned to find themselves side by side on a flight to Oahu, where Charlotte is booked into Jack's family's hotel.

Can the two of them avoid each other for the entire time Charlotte is planning to stay? If they can't, will they discover that the flame of their love still flickers?

Readers of contemporary romance will love Tropical Storm. It's a very quick read with a satisfying HEA.

A fast-paced and entertaining read.

Charlotte and Jack have a past, a love that was torn apart by miscommunication and broken youthful dreams.
When they run into each other again, they realise their past isn't as behind them as either imagined.
Throw in some fun intrigue and a delicious island setting and it had me hooked, and desperately wishing for a holiday :)

The characters were excellent and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.
