Passionate Janet Blythe is a frontier-raised resourceful woman of principle. Amid post-war turmoil in British America, Janet has no choice but return to her ambitious estranged family, in Regency England. Dodging their schemes and defying their authority, she risks scandal to follow her heart and pursue independence. Is this even possible in a world where men hold all the power?
Never Far: A refreshing take on the 1812-15 time in Canada and Britain which shows how we are interconnected between the British, Indigenous, United Empire Loyalists and Americans. The Napoleonic wars happened in this time period. History has tended to be taught with very narrow focus describing what happened in a community in isolation to the rest of the world. The normal Regency romances written by Georgette Heyer and others focused on a “poor” female meeting a rich aristocrat . The characters tended to be one dimensional or two at best. The upper class were a character in the book. A woman’s only way to survive was to marry well and ignore any activity of her spouse. However as Catherine Grove is a woman living in the 21st century writing about the 19th she combines her knowledge of the world with the realities of life in the 19th century making for a very different read. Her attention to detail is refreshing. It makes sense to read that the inhabitants of the coaches were cold instead of just reading the pecking order of the occupants. With one word she sets the scene for the personality conflicts occur due to the strict rules in the English class structure. That reality of life has made an impact on Canadian society to the present day. As I grew up in southern England I felt connected to see many of the communities I knew written about in the 19th century. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interesting in Canadian history and English history in the Regency period.

Never Far by storyteller, Catherine Grove is a refreshing, riveting story of Janet Blythe's adventures. She is "a frontier-raised, resourceful woman, in Regency England." This story has rich elements -- history, adventure and surprises. There is much to discover.
Catherine is a high-skilled wordsmith and she spins a captivating tale.
I enjoyed Janet Blythe's character. She is strong and unconventional.
Two themes that I appreciated were the following: one -- the care and concern for your fellow man and two -- the depth and adaptability of love. Who adapted in love?
The expression "rivers of tea flowed" stood out for me. It created fun and powerful imagery.
I highly recommend reading Catherine Grove's book Never Far, in addition this story would make a great gift for someone.
