Both on the run from their pasts, Shane and Reece find themselves at the orchard. Was it chance that brought them there or were they called home?
Reece is too tangled up in the idea of who he’s running from to realize the truth about who he’s run to. The orchard is the perfect hiding place, and after escaping the military and his alpha team, he needs to keep his head down. But he can’t let go of the anger that’s dogged him for months, building up inside until he’s ready to explode.
Invited to the orchard to meet Hawk’s pack, Shane jumps at the chance to escape the trouble he’s in. They want him to stay, but there’s not enough to keep him there. Until Reece arrives. When the omega avoids him, Shane assumes it’s fear that makes him keep his distance. But he catches the look in Reece’s eyes and sees the truth—it’s rage that’s eating Reece up inside. Shane knows a little something about anger and how to tame it. He can’t watch Reece burn from the inside out, so he extends a helping hand.
Reece tries to hide his struggles, but Shane somehow sees right through his facade. The alpha offers to help and, in desperation, Reece accepts. But past the anger, simmering beneath the surface, he can feel his and Shane’s compatibility. It's easy to tangle their lives together, but it might not be so easy to unravel them when the time comes to go their separate ways.
Anchor is the second book of the Lone Pack series. It contains mpreg, some mature themes, and scenes not suitable for readers under the age of eighteen.
Claire Cullen is an author and aspiring baker. Since she was a toddler, she has loved making up stories. Getting them down on paper proved a challenge in the early years when her preferred medium was finger puppets. She moved on to pen and paper, and later to keyboards, and hasn't looked back since, except for occasional bouts of nostalgia.
I enjoyed the variation in the MCs dynamic with Reece and his anger issues and them training together. I do have many of the same complaints than I did for the previous book.
A lot of the plot elements are sort of half finished. Why make it all sound so very dramatic and then not give us any details? I suppose it would turn the atmosphere of this book a lot darker if the story put more emphasize on those parts, but honestly, what's the point of basically projecting: "Oh, the backstory for these characters contain horrible stuff like abuse, murder, human trafficking and such, but I won't actually tell you what happened because this is supposed to be a happy read"...?
Also - and I'm trying to write this as spoilerfree as possible - the showdown or final conflict is solely written from the point of view of the party in danger, helpless and desperate. And then the situation gets solved without us even learning how the other characters pulled it off. It's all like "while you were in despair, we made a plan for your rescue, don't worry about anything, we all solved it already without you knowing". What kind of plot is that, seriously??
And there are a lot of names and characters from the Lost Pack series that are not really introduced. You are just supposed to know what jobs and skillsets they all have and I really don't anymore, despite having read the series before.
I'm feeling so cheated and I don't even know why I still like reading this, but truth is, I do. That's just how it is.
I really enjoyed this. I loved both Reece and Shane as the MCs. I loved how Shane help Reese work through his anger issues and how patient he was during the process. All in all, a good addition to the series and I’m looking forward to more.
This is an amazing addition to The Lone Pack series and I loved it. Anchor is well written, emotional, sweet, gritty, intense, the world building is excellent, the author deals well with some very difficult issues, there are some interesting twists, the characters are wonderful and I could not put it down. Reece and Shane are both running from difficult situations and find solace and safety with Hawk's small pack. Shane recognizes what Reece needs and he is willing to do whatever it takes to help him. Reece is terrified that he might inadvertently hurt the very people that want to help him but he knows he needs to find a solution. They have a strong connection and are exactly what the other needs. When Shane's past catches up with him, he and the pack as well as their friends find themselves scrambling to do whatever it takes to fix the situation. Even when they are facing the worst possible outcome Reece and Shane need to have faith in each other and their friends. I love the world that the author has created and I can't wait to read the next book in this incredible series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
An abused Anchor, a protective alpha, two secrets... oh my!
I love the Lone Pack books. The world filled with Anchors, Protectors, Sentinels and Pack dynamics is uniquely alive and vibrant. The men are hot, the sex is hotter. Alpha Shane is hiding from his past. Helping omega Reece with his anger is so fulfilling, Shane can't help but fall in love. Reece is also on the run. Confession comes hard for him. But Shane makes him feel safe. Their HEA is assured, though getting there is plagued by a kidnapping, a daring escape, an unexpected heat/ pregnancy, and an arrest. Old fears will be faced, pack bonds will be formed, and two packs will combine their forces to combat several evils. You will love this book! Please read the first book. It sets the stage for this one. Besides, it's a really good book! This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
Okay so both Shane and Recees are kinda selfish, both of them are running from trouble and both of them run to the orachard to find safety, sanctuary, and even help but both of them keep secrets that could potentially hurt themselves and others. They hide the truth even knowing that there's a pack there with newborns and don't say anything to warn the pack of the danger ? It's just incredibly selfish and really makes them both unlikeable to me. I found myself flipping over pretty much anything having to do with them that didn't involve the pack because I wanted to read more about the others then this books MC. Then the whole big drama at the end is kinda resolved but we get barely any details and yet still at the end it just ends without us finding out more just left me not wanting to read more.
I enjoyed this story. You have two MC’s (Anchor - Omega Reece and Protector - Alpha Shane) running from their previous lives before the orchard. The anger in Reece is slowing taking over, causing him to lash out. He’s afraid he’ll lose control, but with the help from Shane can he learn to control it? Shane is so mellow and rounds out the rough edges of Reece. They don’t realize it at first, but they’re perfect additions to this growing pack. Can these two find happiness together between a kidnapping and court martial hearing?
I feel like these two were more complex characters than Hawk and Jesse from book 1. I’m really looking forward to Cass finding his mate.
I think this one was my second favourite out of all the books in the Lost Pack/Lone Pack universe: Josh and Cole are still my top favourite couple, but Reece and Shane are definitely in second place. I loved this book! It's interesting and tough and adventurous and angsty, with a high dose of slow-burn deliciousness and all the usual A/B/O and Mpreg shenanigans. I adored Reece, his tough and angry side, but also his more vulnerable, sweet one. Shane was his perfect counterpart: patient and respectful and protective, without being stifling. They were wonderful together and their chemistry was truly top notch. I'm so excited to start book three!
This is a fantastic story. Shane is a single, troubled Alpha. He comes to the orchard to lay low. Reece is an Omega on the run. He comes to the orchard to hide. Shane is determined to save Reece from the turmoil that haunts his sleep. This is a wonderful book that is fast paced, encouraging and has a great HEA. I'm loving the characters in this new series. Thank You Claire Cullen for another adventure. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS FANTASTIC SERIES!!!!!!
Anchor by Claire Cullen is the second book of the Lone Pack series. It is a paranormal mpreg that delivers suspense, steam, romance and angst to readers in an interesting storyline. The characters are amazing and make you need their stories. Shane and Reese made me smile and I am so glad I got to read about their adventures. The overarching plot of the series is really interesting and I can not wait to unviel more twists, turns and mysteries.
This second book in the Lone Pack series deals with an abused omega on the run from a military that let him down, and the steady alpha who saves him. It's a slower burn than normal, with intense subject matter and at times I found it difficult to read. As always, Cullen uses this book for social commentary: specific to this book, bullying culture and toxic masculinity within the armed forces.
Hurt comfort is my favorite trope, so Reece’s story was especially good. Reece is a very strong, if scared Omega. He knows what he faces if he is found. Shane is also laying low from his past as well. His compassion and determination to help Reece heal mentally is unparalleled. I love that Reece recognized Shane as helping and was not scared of him. As always, the writer draws me in and we see another pack forming bonds and growing. Loved it!
I sort of count the Lost Pack and the Lone Pack series as one large one, and this entry added to the world-building in a good way. I love learning more about packs and various members’ roles within them. But the most important thing is the characters and their relationship, and the author succeeds there too. A lovely love story.
If you like furry babies, strong omegas and protective alphas, you'll love this. As always, Claire Cullen's writing is a great comfort read for me and I really enjoyed this book. No cliffhanger but a tiny little tease for what I hope is the future of the series and I'm looking forward to the next book!
This second book in the series is a bit less appealing than the first. The story has a couple of awkward plot moments, and occasional bouts of character confusion which negatively impact the storyline. Character development is not up to par for a book written by Ms. Cullen. Positive ending, but softly expressed.
Loved it. I liked how strong Reece was especially compared to Jesse. Both he and Shane had been through hell but found themselves. This book had all the loose ends tied up, but the ones from the first book never were. I guess we won’t see that. I hope for Damon’s story next.
This was great, keeping me hooked from the start to the very end. I loved how their relationship slowly developed. Shane is perfect match to Reece. He's patient, thoughtful, respect Reece boundaries and Shane is what Reece needed in Alpha.
I have loved pretty much all of the books written by this author and this one was pretty great. Very much a found family pack with a little angst thrown in for excitement.
Not only do you get a great love story but you get a interesting side story stemming from their past! Shane is such a steady and calm Alpha. Reece needs Shane but that’s not all there is to their story. I can’t wait for more from this pack!
Reece is on the run and the only place he knows to go is to the orchard. Shane is about ready to leave and move on but, once Reece shows up things get a little more complicated. Shane is what Reece needs and together they can over come anything.
My heart went out to Reece immediately. I was glad Shane was there to help him and give everything he needed to find his happiness. Good book! Can't wait to see who joins the pack next.
Okay Read! This story started out a little confusing but after awhile the story came together and cleared up the confusion. The heroes were likeable and the villains were hated.😁
Reece is an anchor. He ran from the military when his alpha team became so abusive he was afraid for his life. Shane finds him outside the orchard. They find a bond that trouble can't break.
This was one of the better books in the universe. I appreciated Reese and all his flaws. However, he was strong and resilient. He accepted Shane’s willingness to help with barely any argument. Watching them grow together was adorable and gut-wrenching. I really liked them.
A little, kind of sort of boring... nothing really exciting, but it was a simple sweet story... of two men who had came from a background that could have taken them to on a horrible path, but fortunately the one they took lead them to saving each other.
