A common misunderstanding which deters people from practising Islam is the idea that Islamic Teachings are difficult to practise. Alongside this, there are many opportunities a person comes across on a daily basis to amass reward for the Hereafter, but which one missed due to lack of knowledge. Easy Good Deeds is a valuable book which details many good deeds that a person can easily practise without any major effort. The author has highlighted actions over a wide spectrum of areas, ranging from worship to social conduct, all of which entail minimum effort but reap abundant reward nonetheless. This concise work will help readers appreciate the importance of many righteous actions, realise how easy it is to perform them, and ultimately imbue them with the spirit to practice Islam in its entirety. Translated by Shaykh Javed Iqbal Mufti Taqi ‘Uthmani is one of the leading Islamic scholars living today. Author of more than 40 books, he is an expert in the fields of Islamic law, Economics and Hadith. For the past 35 years, he has been teaching at the Darul-Uloom in Karachi that was established by his father Mufti Muhammad Shafi, the late Grand Mufti of Pakistan. He also holds a degree in law and has sat as Judge at the Shari’ah Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He is a consultant to several international Islamic financial institutions and has played a key part in the move toward interest free banking and the establishment of Islamic financial institutions. This is by far one of my favorite Islamic books I have ever read. I love books on Deen that specifically use simple language and easy cited sources, duas, and ayahs to explain Islam to the average person, whether born or a new Muslim. And this book fits the bill perfectly.
It's quite easy to read (even though it took me like 2 months but that's lowkey my fault cuz I had no time to read lately, but that's just on me haha). It's very simple, and each chapter/deed is explained in 1-3 pages in a very simple bite-sized way.
This book gave me hope of attaining rewards through simple everyday actions. It reassures a Muslim that religion should be easy to practice and that it's not hard to please Allah. You could remove stick from the reward, feed an animal, smile, control your tongue, say a good word, help a neighbour, etc and be rewarded IMMENSELY for it!
One of the deeds that stuck out to me most was a man giving water to a dog in his shoe by climbing into the bucket-less well, filling his shoe with water, and climbing back up, holding the shoe between his teeth. Allah loved this act so much that He forgave him (this is in chapter 67 on page 148). Just imagine! The struggle the man went through to feed stray dog earned him so much reward!
This book was quite satisfying to read, and I highly reccomend it to anybody, Muslim or not! It represents Islam as the religion of peace and mercy that it is. It's a handy, small but wonderful book packed with knowledge. May Allah bless those who read and practice upon this book, and to Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani for compiling it. Ameen ❤️
Mufti Taqi Usmani distills the simplest and most practical of Islamic teachings, which, if applied, will immediately enrich a person’s devotion to God and improve their social relations with those around them. Whether that be increasing one’s Istighfar (seeking forgiveness from God), Dua (supplication), Salawat (blessings on the Prophet), or concealing the faults of others, being soft-spoken and cheerful, looking after the orphans and widows, visiting the sick, or planting a tree, and more.
We may have already heard some of these deeds scattered from different books or through our experiences with Islamic teachers. Through this book, we find all of them neatly organised in one place. The book describes these collections of deeds as ‘easy,’ and I wholeheartedly believe in this title, and if applied, will surely enrich and edify your life.
Without doubt, this should be on the bookshelf of every Muslim household. May God bless Mufti Taqi Usmani for his efforts in bringing this book together.
