Excellent book! On Ice felt so real to me, and I felt like I was really part of the Darts as I was reading this book. That could be because I actually play for the Arrows in WHAM (Women's Hockey Association of Minnesota), and played with Alison Sommer before she moved up to the next level. A lot of the characters have personalities of people I play hockey with, and I'm sure some of the scenes in the book have been inspired by real life. I also recently played on the Darts in a tournament in Hudson, Wisconsin. It was fun to be the first person to put on the #8 Darts jersey.

In the book, when Fitz and others are trying to come up with a new team name, they mention The Mighty Drunks. That's another tournament team that Alison created in the past that I've played on.

Reading On Ice made me really miss playing hockey. Because of Covid, we only had four teams in our division this year and we only ended up playing four games. We also didn't have our regular team, but had to combine with another team to have enough players. As is stated in the book, your hockey team (even in old lady hockey), is really your hockey family. Every year, at the end of the season, I'm so sad for it to be over because I know I won't be seeing and hanging out with them like during the season.

I'm looking forward to reading the next book to see what happens with the Darts and their players.

A 4.5

So good start to finish! Great characters, great story, great writing. There is a warm, familiar feeling to the whole thing. I really like the choice to tell the story through all 4 of the main characters. And Sommer drew me in emotionally. When she wants to be funny, the jokes are hilarious. And when she wants to grab your heart and rip it out of your chest, well, tears will come.

I loved the potpourri of relationships on display. Especially glad to see someone write about platonic friendships....even if briefly (More Dragon in the rest of the series, fingers crossed). I also appreciated the variety of nerdy references.

What a debut! Can't wait to read what happens next!

5 stars.

This is perhaps the most real book that I have ever read. I’m not particularly a fan of contemporary fiction, but On Ice is the exception. The characters are well-developed, empathetic, and true. Even as a person who is not a fan of sports, I found the sporting elements engaging and understandable.

The story is told from the points of view of all four of the main characters, and it’s easy to tell which chapter is being told by which character. While it is told by all of them, Fitz is the main focus, followed by Michelle. And yet, all of the characters clearly have their own identities, hopes, and dreams, and they are the building blocks behind who they are as people - just like in real life. The interpersonal relationships are brilliantly explored, and yet just enough was left to make a person want to read the next book in the series to follow-up with the characters.

This book explores women’s friendship, toxic relationships, hockey… it’s beautifully written. I am very much looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Teammates: Take Shots .

And be certain to read the bonus scene that takes place between books 1 & 2! Michelle: July 4th, 2018

On Ice by Alison Sommer is a cozy, feel-good romance that balances small-town charm with emotional depth. The story moves at an easy pace — not rushed, but steady enough to stay engaging — and the characters feel genuine, with just enough chemistry to keep you invested.

Lessa Lamb’s narration really helps bring the warmth out of the dialogue. Her tone is smooth and expressive without being overdone, which suits this kind of heartfelt story perfectly. The production quality is clean and consistent, making it a very comfortable listen overall.

It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s exactly the kind of audiobook you put on when you want something comforting and quietly romantic.

Great book! Author does a great job of continuing the story of teammates on the Darts a women’s adult hockey team. Characters deal with complex issues of family, friendships, depression, sexuality, and the impacts of toxic relationships. It's more intense than Book 1, On Ice, which works well with the development of the characters and their storylines. Looking forward to reading more about Fitz and her teammates
