Screams of Late Spring: A Rebel Joe Story
Two Counties has always been a bit peculiar. More unmarked graves are dug there than proper ones, they say. And families keep secrets too. I'd learn that the hard way. Pop and I caught the early train to Mitchell, Indiana, that morning. I was excited to see my cousin Birdy and run around town all day. But after I had an encounter with a cutthroat on the train, and when I found out I had a brother named Ray, I figured things couldn't get any more dangerous or strange. Well, I was wrong about that. Before I could blink, I was off on a journey with Birdy and Ray, into the wilds of Two Counties , bound for Rebel Joe's cave. I had no idea who Rebel Joe was or what was in his cave. I just hoped he wouldn't be home when we got there.

Even though I think this book is for teenagers, I thought it was very good.

"Screams of Late Spring" is the first book in a series from new author Dan Sanders.
Set in Prohibition-era Southern Indiana, the main character is young Russ, whose life is turned upside down by the discovery of an older brother he never knew he had. Russ's adventures are full of fun, humor, and plenty of mystery, as he starts to unravel layers of family and local secrets.
The book is a great story as a standalone, but sets up enough for future adventures to leave you wanting more. Can't wait for the next one!

Late Spring review
I enjoyed this book as it reminded me of my childhood. I was born in Mitchell and moved to Orleans when I was 8 yrs old. I can remember being at my grandmas in Mitchell and walking to town for a cold drink. A different way of living and a shame our kids don't experience these memories.

This is an amazingly entertaining read. It presents as professionally prepared text that is a joy to read. The characters are perfect for a tall tale.
