Terra Nova

Rate this book
Evangeline is living the life of a normal teenager—going to school and hanging out with friends—until mysterious, severe symptoms begin appearing. After passing out in the middle of a party, life as she knows it spirals beyond her grasp. She is then diagnosed with a rare, genetic blood disorder that causes her body’s white blood cells to kill the red ones. In the delirium of her deteriorating health, a door to a parallel world opens before her; however, once she steps through it, the portal closes, and she is unable to return to Earth.

The place Evangeline now finds herself in is called Terra Nova, a world wherein vampires rule supreme, with no traces of humanity left to speak of. Curious but afraid, she quickly learns that Terra Nova is not the shadow-side of Earth, but rather the tragic result of government experimentation. In order to survive, she must keep her mind open and accept the changes her body is undergoing; soon enough, those who she initially thinks are murderers become her trainers, whose help she must enlist if she ever hopes to return home—and soon enough, a romantic bond begins to bloom.

Meanwhile, Evangeline’s brother and friends back on Earth try to figure out what happened to her, and how the government is involved, and how to bring her home. Unbeknownst to any of them is the mysterious outcast Bambi, whose secrecy disguises her power in making a devastating choice: save one world at the risk of destroying the other.

*Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!*

Plot - ★★★★
I knew from the synopsis of this book I was going to enjoy the storyline, and I was completely right. Right from the beginning, there is an essence of mystery that makes you want to keep reading and uncover what is going on. It kept me hooked and my interest never waned. While the setting up on the book (first ~100 pages or so) was quite slow, when the fantasy elements were introduced it picked up in pace massively and I started to get really invested. I’m really interested to see where the plot goes as we span over more books in the series!

Writing - ★★★
Overall, the writing did its job. It wasn’t overly metaphorical or lyrical, but having said that it was written in a similar style to most other YA fantasy books. It was easy to read and understand, it was well-formatted, and flowed easily. I enjoyed the multiple points of view but found myself wanting it to be clearer who we were with, as I sometimes got confused. I also would’ve preferred if we were with Evangeline the entire time as I enjoyed her character.

Characters - ★★★
I had a love/hate relationships with the characters in this book, some I loved and some I just didn’t enjoy at all. That’s not to say they were badly written, just that some of their personalities were either obnoxious or irritating. The vampire characters were by far my favourite and the most interesting, I enjoyed looking into their way of living and their slight character quirks. The characters I didn’t get on with were stereotypical high school boys and Cynthia. For some reason, Cynthia really irritated me and I wish I understood her better. Bambi was one of my favourite characters and one whose past I’d like to delve even more into. She was so interesting and had a lot of depth, she’s a character you can’t help but root for and want to know more about. Our protagonist was likeable, and her development throughout the book was fun to follow. You can tell how quickly her experiences shape her.

Romance - ★★★★
I much prefer minimal elements of romance in my fantasy and this book had the perfect ratio for my enjoyment. I had to keep closing this book because I was smiling so much. This is the sweetest, slow-burn enemies to lovers kind of relationship/friendship/romance ever. And I am completely in love with it. It was frustrating at times but so worth it. I’m obsessed with how it turned out, I loved the tender conversations they had together. I was just really rooting for them the whole time. The playful banter was perfect. The ‘sharing a bed’ trope? Divine. I’m actually lost for words. The romance was GOOD.

Diversity - ★★
I think I would’ve enjoyed a more explicitly diverse cast of characters, I think it’s something we need more of in YA and fantasy in particular. A couple of characters are described as having ‘olive skin’, ‘dark glowing skin’ or ‘dark skin like his hair’ briefly but I could never fully determine how I was supposed to be picturing them. This is something that could be explored more in future books, as I’d love to see some diversity!

World Building - ★★★
One thing this book did really well was foreshadowing and gradually building up to the supernatural elements of the story. It was seamlessly included throughout and I really enjoyed the buildup. I found this was a fresh and interesting take on the concept of vampires as a whole, and how they live as a community. This world is also such a good introduction to fantasy for new readers of the genre - it’s very gentle and easy to pick up on what’s going on. There was no huge paragraphs of dense information or bulk name dropping like a lot of fantasy books; so I never got lost and it was easy to follow. I loved Latina and learning about its history; I can’t wait to revisit it in the future.

Relationships - ★★★
For the most part, the friendships and other relationships in this book were very wholesome and enjoyable. Evangeline and her brother have a really nice relationship, and I enjoyed seeing them talk to and look after each other. In particular, I loved the parallels between how Raffael looks after Evangeline, to how Evangeline goes on to look after Ehvan in a similar way. It was so lovely.

The main relationships that frustrated me were ones that involved Cynthia - I could never understand why she was even friends with Evangeline and her intentions to me were never clear. It never appeared to me why she was even around Evangeline when she was always so bitter. I think her character still has a lot to be explored, and I do truly believe she has more depth to her than what we’ve seen. She just frustrated me endlessly.

Overall, this book was very enjoyable and a strong setup for a fantasy series. I would love to read more of it and delve even deeper into the universe with Evangeline! (And I REALLY want me some more Eros content. Please.)

I’m so happy this little gem of vampire fiction found its way to me! Terra Nova was a book that surprised me from its very first pages. It follows Evangeline, a teenage girl trying to balance a normal life with the recent discovery that she suffers from a genetic blood disorder and strange dreams of people she’s never met.

Thanks to its easy-to-grasp writing and steady pace, Terra Nova’s characters easily become ones that you come to care for. Evangeline was a very relatable character, quirky, curious but also surprisingly vulnerable. Bonds of friendship and family are thoroughly explored in all their positive qualities but also their complications, and I especially loved the relationship between Evangeline and her brother, Raffael. However, there was no shortage of interesting and alluring characters in this story, especially where the vampires are involved, and every flip of the page revealed more about their mysteries. Some people might find it hard to piece together the numerous flashback scenes, but I personally enjoyed them very much and loved how naturally they were woven into the narrative and how much they added to the mystery of the plot.

The world-building was not the ordinary one that we find in vampire novels. Here we have two parallel worlds, one being our Earth, and the other being a world ruled entirely by vampires—which is where the majority of the second part of the book takes place. The vampires were absolutely original, and not the types that you normally see. It was very interesting to see how this world works, but also the intricacies of their “condition” as vampires, which had many surprising elements.

The only aspect of the book I wasn’t completely sold on was the romance. It was of the hate-to-love variety and very well paced, but there was something about Eros as a love interest that wasn’t completely clicking with me. However, I do think it depends on my personal preferences, and I think a lot of readers will enjoy this relationship!

Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of this book. I highly recommend it to readers of vampire fiction looking for a different take on these beloved and interesting beings and lovers of character-driven stories!

I’m so happy about all the vampire content I’m finding lately, and this isn’t any different. Terra Nova is a book that has very interesting characters—and vampires!—that I really enjoyed reading.

The worldbuilding of this book was very interesting, and not something I remember reading or hearing about in other vampire books. There are two worlds: ours, and another world called Terra Nova, where only vampires exist. The main character is Evangeline, a human girl from our world whose life is anything but ordinary. She suffers of a blood disorder, and she also has strange dreams that she struggles to understand. Evangeline and her friend, Cynthia, access Terra Nova through a portal, though once they’re through, the portal seals shut behind them and they have no way to come back to Earth.

I really enjoyed the characters, especially Evangeline, whose curiosity made her very endearing, and Cynthia. Their friendship is complex, but also realistic. Cynthia is jealous of the bond Evangeline shares with their other friend, Val, and she often feels like she’s the odd one out. These feelings made Cynthia very believable and relatable. I’m sure many of us have had that instance in a group of friends where you feel like you’re in your own bubble, separated from the rest who band together. You feel for Cynthia, especially once she and Evangeline reach Terra Nova, the vampire world, where they must count on one another to survive. Their arrival to Terra Nova strengthens their friendship bond so much, and some moments between them made me plucked at my heartstrings and made me teary eyed. Cynthia is that kind of person who is willing to do anything for the people she loves, and I loved that.

Another interesting character is Bambi, because a lot of mystery revolves around her and her past. Evangeline labels her as the wannabe vampire, and perhaps she wasn’t too far from the truth. I won’t say more because of spoilers, but the aura of mystery around her immediately signaled her to me as an interesting character.

And of course, me being me, I couldn’t leave this review without mentioning the romance. I have to be honest, I was hesitant at first when I started to understand Evangeline and Eros were headed down that path. However, I ended up enjoying their relationship by the end of the book.

If you’re looking for more vampire novels, then I encourage you to pick this one up!

Omg what did I just read? I couldn't put this book down. I haven't enjoyed a book this much in many years. The concept is amazing and a compliment different take on vampires and one that really worked for me as a reader. There was no shortage of on the edge of your seat moments. So much happening but paced perfectly. This author has a talent for story telling especially since this is her first novel. I'm already anticipating the second book in this series. Evangeline is an amazing main character and her fiestiness I just loved. Then there's Eroz. Their back and forth banter made the book for me. I found myself smiling and even laughing more then once which is hard to get me to do when reading. Very few authors have accomplished this and for all these reasons I'm giving this book a 5 star review and highly recommend reading it!! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Wow! Isn't this cover gorgeous? So at first it was slow and seemed to be all over the place, but it came together pretty fast. The banter had me laughing out loud and I must say I kinda love vampire boy Eros😍 You know I love a good enemies to lovers and tbh I was hooked right away. Also I didn't think that I'd be tearing up at the end of this so, thanks a lot! I need book two ASAP! This is a debut novel so well done! It's beautiful.

Apologies to readers of my reviews that asked me about Terra Nova. It's been a minute since I finished the book, and I didn't get to write the review right away. Life sometimes takes us away from the things we enjoy to deal with things we don't. In any case. I liked Terra Nova despite the fact that there were common vampire tropes which the author attempted to make new with a simple change of venue.

Terra Nova, Book 1 of the series named Terra Nova is a science fiction, fantasy, horror revolving around a parallel world of vampiric beings, and the doorway between them. Evangeline is a regular high schooler, doing high school things when she falls ill with a blood disorder that causes her to enter a hallucinogenic state that opens a gate from her world to an alternate one.

The alternate world appears to be a medieval one of princes and queens, and loyal subjects and servants. She and a friend are kept in a gilded cage in a castle "for their own protection" from the predatory characters. The story is interesting but confusing, especially since there is a parallel story line on earth transpiring and it is not always clear what the relevance is to the simultaneous plots. Good, but I often found myself saying, "Huh?"

If you enjoy dark vampire books that take place in medieval settings with lots of plot twists this book is for you. During the beginning of the novel it was a bit hard to grasp the entire variety of characters and the world building, but after that I couldn't put the book down and everything became much clearer.

The story follows two parallel worlds, one overtaken by vampires, and the other Earth as we know it. I love the entire concept of the portal between these worlds and once Evangeline and Cynthia get across I couldn't stop reading. The novel is dark and intense, which I absolutely love! I would recommend it for a New Adult genre.

"I think you are pretty. Mother says not all regular humans are pretty like you. I am happy you came. I hope I don't eat you."

The characters were all amazingly done, I loved Evangeline, Raffael, Eros, Ehvan... The fact that the story is told in multiple point of views allowed us to connect to each of them. The plot is masterfully put together, throwing plot twists after plot twist towards us in a way that the novel became very action packed and it reads super fast paced. One of my favorite elements was the angst and hatred between Evangeline and Eros in the beginning and how this transforms throughout the novel. Terra Nova was heartbreaking and emotional, there are many unexpected turn of events. I will definitely keep an eye out for more upcoming novels from this author!

Vampires have been doing their comeback this year and I was happy to have another Vampire story in my hands. Also the cover is stunning! The story follows a young girl named Evangeline with a blood condition, this condition has her "dreaming" she visits parallel life. But in all reality she is transported into it. It took me a few chapters to get into the story, it's somewhat slow to start off and it's a bit confusing to follow the unraveling of the plot. This is a vampire story with a different mindset, I liked how it somewhat different to your cliche vampire story. The character development took me by surprise, here is a girl thrown into a world where vampires roam freely and she is being protected.

The world overall was pretty captivating, the writing is crafted well enough to keep me interested. However, there were areas where the flashbacks had me wondering. I was a little bit confused with the multiple facets in the book, the author uses philosophy and medical terminology to build her world. I am a sucker for enemies to lovers, it's my absolute favorite trope... The characters have what I would describe as a balanced romance, it wasn't overwhelmingly filled with sappy emotions. One aspect I truly liked was the relationship Evangeline had with her loved ones, it was authentic. The characters had good chemistry, however I never got a full understanding of "what they look like". I would have loved to see a little bit more on their description.

I definitely would love to learn more about the world in book two, there is a lot of potential with this story. Hoping to see a bit more on the characteristics of the characters as well as the surroundings in the plot.

Thank you so much to the author for sending me a copy of this book!

In this book, we follow Evangeline, who suffers from an undiagnosed illness. After a particularly bad episode, a portal opens, and she is thrown into a new world that had been visiting her in her dreams since she was six.

Unbeknownst to her, her captors are not all that they appear. Rather than holding her against her will, they are actually protecting her from themselves. Evangeline quickly comes to realize the portal led her to a realm where vampires rule, and she is now being hunted.

_________

I really enjoyed this book! I loved the plot, world building, characters, and especially the romance. It took me a bit to get into the book, but I was quickly sucked in and couldn't put it down.

I liked Evangeline's character; not only was she normal and quirky, but I appreciated that she suffers from the same rare blood disease as the author. You don't oftentimes see real-life diseases portrayed in YA fantasy, and I am grateful that Terra Nova is one of the exceptions.

I adored the romance. It has all my favorite tropes, enemies to lovers, slow burn, and the ever-delightful, bed sharing.

I am very much looking forward to book two and how the story develops.

If you know me you know that I’m a sucker for vampires and this book was just the one.
It follows the story of Evangeline a human teenage girl who has a rare genetic blood disorder that causes her white blood cells to kill the red ones. Accidentally one day Evangeline steps through a portal to a parallel world called Terra Nova, a world where vampires reign and she is unable to return to earth.
This book was so good, so mysterious and so beautifully written. I enjoyed it so much, especially the last 100 pages, they were so thrilling.
The characters were great, I liked them so much, especially Evangeline and Eros and their “enemies to friends” bond they create through the book.
I highly recommend this book to YA fantasy lovers and as for vampire lovers this is a Must Read.

REVIEW ☆☆☆☆

For certain, TERRA NOVA is a different kind of story. With slow going initially, you might be tempted to close the book, but the pace does gain speed, giving the story much needed momentum.

The premise is a crazy mix of fantasy, scifi, medical drama, parallel worlds and vampires. Take note, however, because these vampires are not your garden variety. The parallel worlds are not inversely related in the way you might expect. As for the heroine, Evangeline, she is actually refreshing because of her rare disease diagnosis. I say this because I have a rare disorder, but I read very little about characters who share this affliction. As per the usual, Evangeline's life is forever altered by her diagnosis but in unexpected ways. There is a romantic notion in the story, but it plays second fiddle, not center stage, to the main storyline. I am glad for this because too much ridiculous romance can ruin a story.

My overall impression of TERRA NOVA is best summed up in a word: unexpected. The characterizations, world building, plot twists and story line are not typical. For all of these reasons, you should try this book for yourself!

Terra Nova was such a fun and unique new read! I will admit it took me a little while to get into the story, but once I did, I was hooked. It has a great vampire story without it being anything like the typical vampire stories. The romance was the perfect slow burn, enemies to lovers story, with lots of fun witty banter. Not only did they romantically have feelings for each other, but they realized their friendship first, which I found sweet. Overall, I enjoyed this book and am excited to see where book two goes.

Many thanks to @rrbooktours and author @mtgbooks777 for this beautiful paperback copy of the first book in the Terra Nova series! I am most grateful!

4.5 stars, rounded up for Goodreads!

“Everybody dies but only few of us manage to live”

Wow. What can I tell you about this book?? Well, it’s YA/NA fantasy! And guess what? I read it! If you know me, you know that fantasy is not usually my gig; however, there is a reason this book has a 4.43/5 star rating on Goodreads. Maybe this is a genre I need to spend more time reading! This book is one of those hidden gems that you come across or someone gifts you, and you’re like “this is not the kind of story I usually read,” but it. is. good. The book is written with rich detail and the scenes are beautifully conveyed with the author’s words.

The book starts out with the main character, a teenage girl, named Evangeline. She’s not quite the average teen either. She has dreams of two individuals, a man and an older woman, that seem to visit her often. But she doesn’t seem to think too much of it - at first. After she passes out at a party with friends, things start getting weird. She is hospitalized and the doctors discover she has a rare, genetic blood disorder. This particular disorder is making her white blood cells kill her “mutated” red blood cells and from here, her body starts to suffer. While her disease is genetic, it is not inherited, and as far as anyone knows, she’s the only one who has it – and she cannot pass it down to her own children in the future.

A quote from her friend, Ian, explains how odd this disease is: “The only thing your blood likes to kill is itself. It’s interesting. And it’s nocturnal, which apparently means it always gets worse at night.”

I don’t want to give too much away, but there *are* vampires, there’s a portal to another world in which they inhabit, some government experimentation, a little drama, some laughs, and there is even a little romance. There is truly something in this book for everyone. Terra Nova is quite an interesting approach to the vampire subgenre and I have to say, I really enjoyed it!! And there’s going to be another book! So that’s exciting!!

I’m eager to read more from this author! Terra Nova, her first publication, is Book 1 of a series. The series’ concept emerged when she, like the protagonist, was diagnosed with the blood disorder paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), and her then-boyfriend (now husband) joked she was becoming a vampire. She currently works and resides in Canada.

Evangeline is a teen who has had some odd health problems since she was young. These problems spike when she is a teen, and she finally finds out what is wrong with her. Her white blood cells kill her red blood cells. She ties all of this to an incident that happened when she was six. Lightening split, and she saw a man, who then entered the split before it closed. From that point on, she had dreams of a woman and a man.

Fast forward to right after her diagnosis, she goes through the split in the lightning, where she finds a parallel universe and a community of vampires, but not the typical ones we read about.

As she traverses this world, she learns much, transforms, and there is even some romance. Will she ever make it back home?

Mʸ Tᴴᴼᵁᴳᴴᵀs

Terra Nova is absolutely amazing! It isn’t your typical vampire story. Even though it is about an alternate universe and vampires, it is somehow still somewhat realistic, especially the characters. Kudos to the author for thinking up this unique, fast-paced look into an alternate universe with a range of characters to love.

Evangeline is the main character who is brave and shows her emotions and pain without issue. She is confused but moves forward anyway. The vampires are grey and have lost the look of life but are still alive. They want to be human again someday.

I enjoyed how the story went from health issues, family, friends, and odd dreams to a parallel world. Then I learned about this world with Evangeline and her friend Cynthia who ended up there with her. They had no idea what they would find, and I was on the edge of my seat waiting to find out. Anything could have happened.

Once in that parallel world, Terra Nova, I was addicted and couldn’t stop reading. What the heck will happen to Evangeline, and will she ever make it back to her family? What will happen to the vampires?

I am in awe of this book. I suggest you go ahead and grab it right away. It is a big book, but well worth reading!

The book was gifted to me in exchange of a review!

:)

Overall, I enjoyed the plot. The idea was great and it kept me intrigued throughout the whole story. I felt like the beginning was a bit slow but towards the second half it really started to pick up. I really enjoyed the world building and the stories that started to develop when Evangeline got to Latina.

I didn’t love the beginning, mostly because I didn’t really like the characters in the real world, at least not as much as compared to the ones in Latina. I felt like the beginning could have been a lot shorter and more to the point.

I also feel like Cynthia’s death was brushed over! I felt like we moved on from that super quickly. The death just seemed kind of pointless to me because I felt like Cynthia had a lot of potential for development as a character. I was looking forward to see how the journey changed her. I wish they had killed her further along the book at least.

I would’ve loved the book to have ended differently. I get that they are trying to set up the story for a sequel, however I would’ve liked Evangeline to at least have been able to return to her world, then the second book could focus on finding the cure. It just felt like nothing got resolved in the end which gave me a sense of pointlessness.

That being said, I can’t deny the book left me super curious for the sequel! Although I didn’t love every aspect of it, I am so curious to see what will happen with Evangeline’s story. I am intrigued! Especially to see if there is a cure for the condition!

Not perfect but very enjoyable.

The first 100 pages or so were slow but once you get past those, it picks up nicely. The plot isn't fast but keeps a steady pace throughout the book, and the author gives just enough information to keep your interest.

The characters were interesting and I enjoyed their interactions - although occasionally I found some of the dialogue cheesy, overdone and cringy.

Bit confused about Cynthia - why she was even friends with Evangeline and I didn't understand her motivation behind some of her actions?

I find with many paranormal books that the author tries to convince you that "being a supernatural being" is a bad thing.
Superhuman strength, really fast, good fighters, heightened senses, magical powers, never getting tired. Sounds awful, right???. Convinced? I think not.
But that's not the case with Terra Nova. I really felt like the "vampires" had a disease and it was vital for them to get a cure (which was pretty much what the plot was all about). I liked that I didn't need convincing and it was oddly refreshing.

The writing was overall good but super flowerly - it was a bit much and sometimes took me out of the story. Seriously, I didn't need full paragraphs of what a character looked like or all the details of every single piece of clothing they were wearing.

Curious to know what happens next and will probably keep up with the series.

Life changes so quickly that in a second so many things can happen that we never even would have given thought about.

It is in these flickering moments that we suffer, we endure, we rejoice, and we mourn. It is these moments that will make memories.

In the book, Terra Nova, the main protagonist, Evangeline seems to face a similar situation when everything in her life changes quickly when she gets diagnosed with a rare blood disease.

Before Evangeline can understand what is happening, she is transported to a place where there is no trace of humans, only the vampires.

Now how will this impact, will the vampires be able to cure her disease, will she find her soul mate and so many other questions have been answered in the story.

Unlike all the females from this genre who tend to be a bit of a doormat, Evangeline kept true to her beliefs and was a strong female character, despite her age.

We all get scared and want to turn away, but it isn't always strength that makes you stay. Strength is also making the decision to change your destiny.

The cover is really an intriguing one that makes the reader ponder over what the story is about. Whereas the title is a very straight forward one.

The language was very simple to understand the storyline was quite an unique intriguing one. Several twists and turns in the story made it an interesting read. I really enjoyed the book and would recommend to everyone .

Overall, I was pretty pleased with this book! The plot is a sort of mystery essence to it that made me want to uncover what was going to happen next. In the beginning, it might have been considered a tad slow, but after we get past (about 75 pages, give or take), the story and plot does pick up with the fantasy elements!

The writing style is pretty much similar to those in most YA books- easy to read; flows nicely. In the book, we do have multiple povs which is always nice, I just would have liked to see a more distinctive way to distinguish between the characters sometimes. That being said, I still enjoyed the book a lot!

The characters were interesting. They all were cool in their own way, I just clicked more with certain characters than others. For example, I loved the paranormal characters much more than the ‘normal’ human ones. I am not sure why, I just liked them better. That isn’t to say that the human characters were poorly written- quite the opposite in fact- I just didn’t fall in love with all of them.

The world building was lovely- I could see in my head where everything was. Also the relationships in the books were very enjoyable. I like when siblings watch out for each other and the mc Evangeline and her brother did just that!

I really enjoyed reading this book!

Evangeline has always had dreams and visions that never made sense to her. With a blood condition that affects her whole life, she has enough in her plate in real life without trying to decipher what the voices in her head are trying to say. That is until Evangeline is transported into another world of vampires who reveal truth that turns her life upside down.

I loved the book much more than I expected. The characters are well developed. There is no character in the book that doesn’t in a way add substance to the story. Considering this is a debut book, it’s a much appreciated factor for someone like me who loves well built characters. There is nothing over the top about the world building, but I found it very appropriate for the story.

The premise, backstory and vampires in this book are very different and engaging. Every time a plot or reason for some happenings was revealed it was equal parts unguessable and acceptable. This is something very significant for a paranormal/fantasy book. The romance was in the budding phase in this book, since it’s a first book. I really adored Evangeline and Eros’s chemistry.

The plot and characters have so much potential and I am very excited for the other books in this series.

This book comes highly recommended by me if you are looking for YA romance.

“Trust is not demanded. It is earned. I do not trust anyone who tells me to trust them.”

You ever get tired of the same ‘ol same ‘ol of vampire stories? Thankfully, this one veers away from that path with the authors own spin on it. It’s also not your typical vampire book and that’s a huge sigh of relief.

This book wasn’t what I was expecting at all — and I loved that!! I was a little hesitant when I heard about parallel universes as I’m very particular about that but MTG makes to work. I now have a new level of expectation.

Overall, I found this book to be written well and found it to be a fast paced read. While it starts off somewhat slow it’s totally justifiable with world building and character development and picks up around thirteen-ish.. fourteen chapters in. It’s not overly done with romance but just enough to keep the reader engaged and wanting to know how it all plays out for the second book. There’s a good amount of banter which makes my little black heart happy.

While this is a very human story, it does have its elements of the supernatural which balances it out to make it a very enjoyable read. I highly recommend for those who are looking for a different take of vampire fiction.

I really, really enjoyed this fresh spin on a vampire fantasy story.

Evangeline just wants to be a normal teenager, do normal stuff. Not worry about the unbearably pains she gets that send her to the hospital. To stop drawing the creepy man from her nightmares. But she knows there's more to it, even if no one else believes her. She knows what she saw that night in the thunderstorm. She knows it's real.

One night at a party, Evangeline opens a door to Terra Nova, a land rules by starving, bloodthirsty vampires. Vampires that are desperately trying to protect Evangeline from falling to their same fate even as they lust for her blook. But why?

Back on Earth, her brother and friends are running out of time as they try to figure out how to bring Evangeline back. Will she make it back before she's changed?

I loved how the author took the reader into this stark vampire world - the result of an experiment gone horribly wrong; loved that idea! I could really picture and feel the emptiness of that world. Such a unique take on the genre and I was immediately sucked in. Cannot wait to dive into book 2!

Terra Nova is a thrilling and fresh Young Adult fantasy following Evangeline as she weighs up the tragic events of her real life and the opportunities and peril faced in a mysterious other world, Terra Nova, where she must adapt and change in order to survive. She is faced with an opportunity and real danger as she must navigate what she is now facing.

I really liked Evangeline and thought her character carried the plot well. She was daring and courageous, and despite her illness, she didn’t mope or lash out at others. I found her to be compelling with some wonderful traits. Once the fantasy elements to this book begin, she moves along at a reasonable pace for a character arc, and I liked how she developed over the course of the book.

I found the vampires in Terra Nova to be a thrilling cast, with their own personalities and motivations. They weren’t typical for a YA novel, but I liked the twist and how they interacted with one another and Terra Nova. I found that the world they had created, a mirror to our own, was full of wonder and mystery.

A sharp and witty book full of character and mystery. It has a long road to go but I am here for the journey.

Terra Nova is one of my favorite reads of the month, this is an unique fantasy read which takes the readers to the world of Terra Nova, the storyline revolves around Evangeline who is suffering from and unique genetic disorder and things start to change her life, her life is no more the same, she is transported to a complete different world of which she is not much aware and she has to understand and survive there no matter what. I honestly never read a fantasy book which is as amazing and as interesting as Terra Nova.

Just like the storyline, the characters are also so unique, Evangeline is quite an unique character too, I was so much intrigued to know more about her and as the story moves ahead you will be amazed by the narration and writing also the story setting is amazing and worth appreciating. Terra Nova is highly dramatic and engaging and it should not be missed. Go for it.

amazing!

This book had twist and turns! For Shade of Vampire fans this is definitely like a Shade of Vampire but written in third person. This is everything I love in a book. There is an unsuspected special heroine. There’s friendship. There’s heartbreak in characters do die. And this is definitely an interesting take on vampirism. Instead of people wanting to be vampires the opposite is true. And in a parallel world, the vampires are savage and are dying for a cure. It’s totally up my alley and kind of reminds me of the plot line in Vampire Diaries when the cure was the main focus. Parts of the book gives me creepy vibes, in a good way. I especially like the mind, communication aspect to the plot. There is betrayal and people doing what they can to survive. There’s definitely some morally gray characters in this book. There’s a slow burn romance as well. This book is targeted to young adults and I would’ve went really crazy for this if I got my hands on it as a teenager. Will recommend For any reader that just wants to read a ya book.

This book was a really cool surprise. It starts off pretty normal, then suddenly turns into this mix of mystery, sickness, and a whole new world that feels totally different from anything I’ve read. Evangeline’s story moves smoothly from real-life struggles to this wild, vampire run universe, and it all flows in a way that keeps you curious without ever feeling confusing.
Terra Nova itself is super interesting, dark, different, and full of secrets. I liked how the vampires aren’t just scary; they’re actually layered, and their world has a history that makes sense. Watching Evangeline adjust, learn, and slowly trust the people she first thought were dangerous gives the whole story a relaxed, slow burn feel. The romance grows naturally too, which makes it easy to root for.
Meanwhile, the parts back on Earth add just the right amount of tension, especially with her brother trying to figure things out. And Bambi’s whole mysterious vibe adds a nice twist to everything.
Overall, it’s a chill, fun read with a cool mix of paranormal vibes and emotional moments.

What begins as a grounded, almost clinical depiction of illness quickly spirals into something stranger, darker, and far more expansive than I anticipated. Evangeline’s descent into another world is a rupture into her life. A break from what she knows, and what we as readers expect. And that’s where the book shines.

There’s a tactile, lived-in quality to Terra Nova itself: eerie, immersive, and grimly plausible as the shadow of our own world’s failures. The vampires are disciplined, alien, and unsettling, but over time, the emotional stakes deepen in ways I didn’t expect. The relationship that builds between Evangeline and Eros is slow-burning, with just enough ambiguity and rawness to feel earned, not scripted.

I also appreciated how the book doesn’t fully abandon the world Evangeline leaves behind. Her brother’s determination, the lingering presence of Bambi—all of it gives the story a sense of dual perspective that adds emotional complexity without overwhelming the main arc.

This book throws you into a story that looks like it’ll be normal—girl faints, doctor visit, blah blah—but then she’s gone, trapped in a world that isn’t hers. The first stretch moves a little slow, like dragging feet, but then it sharpens into something heavier: illness, secrecy, shadowy government hands. It’s got vampires but not the cheesy kind; they’re pulled into politics and survival, and it makes the story feel bigger than just bloodsuckers. The writing hits visual—scenes feel like you’re watching them roll out, not just reading. Some parts slam forward fast, then stall, but you stick around because every turn feels like it might flip the whole thing on its head. It’s not perfect—kind of jagged, kind of uneven—but it keeps you curious, wanting to know what corner it’s going to jump out from next. Different enough from the usual to feel fresh. Read it fast and will look to book two.

I think this is the very first fantasy written by this author and although there is room for improvement I loved this book for the following reasons:
1. It's got a paranormal romance component BUT it's not cheesy like in many paranormal romances (i.e. heroine falls un-sensibly in love with the dark and brooding vampire and the love is all-encompassing and takes over everything else and lasts forever and ever). The heroine does fall in love but the romance is a side part. Not the entire point of the story.
2. There's so many well developed, female characters. The heroine's friends weren't put into the story simply to accomplish the goal of the heroine having friends.
3. The heroine is goofy. I'm not sure if that makes sense but I was getting tired of depressingly serious heroines and heros.

Overall fun read with some creepy, creepy parts too!

This book threw me off in the best way. It starts with a world that feels distant and dystopian, but the writing pulls you in fast—like you're not just observing but absorbing the chaos and weirdness of it all. The tone is part satire, part surreal commentary, and it's hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. You’re reading along thinking you’ve figured out what it’s trying to do, then something wild happens and you’re questioning everything again. It's not the kind of story you breeze through—it’s dense in parts, and the narrative flips expectations more than once. But if you like fiction that blends absurdity with sharp critiques and isn’t afraid to be polarizing, it’s worth the brain-bend. Definitely not your average read, and I think that’s what I appreciated most. It lingered. It’s still lingering.

To be honest I don’t read that much vampire books, and I wasn’t really sure if i love these kind of books .It turned out i love it , at least i love “Terra Nova”.
It follows Evangeline a teenage girl trying to balance a normal life with the recent discovery that she suffers from a genetic blood disorder and strange dreams of people she’s never met.
This story was so well written and the characters were great, this book suprised me in a good way. Also the relationships i saw in this book are so complex and interesting (and cute) and for all my YA fantasy lovers and for vampire lovers it’s a MUST READ, I definitely recommend this book because it soo good.
