Robbery at the Roller Derby

Rate this book
When Mollie joined a roller derby team, she thought she only needed to worry about bumps and bruises. But when something valuable is stolen from the locker room, she decides to investigate and find the culprit.

In between identifying suspects, working at a mind-numbing temp job, and skating practice, she also meets a guy who just might change her view on blind dates.

As Mollie pursues her investigation, not everyone is thrilled when she starts asking one too many questions.

Can Mollie skate her way out of danger? Or will her nosiness be the death of her?

Robbery at the Roller Derby is a prequel novella to the Mollie McGhie Cozy Sailing Mysteries, a whimsical series with a nautical twist.

Quick, easy read that is an introductory prequel to the Mollie McGhie series. Mollie being on a roller derby team was so fun - it brought a sense of nostalgia back to when we’d watch roller derby on television years ago!

This is the prequel to a promising mystery series covering how Mollie met her future husband while in the midst of solving her first mystery.

Fun, fast, simple, and a good filler. This is a good book that can be listened to while you are on the go, working out, cleaning the house, or stuck in traffic. It isn't intense, so even if you are interrupted, you will understand it soon enough.

As a side note, I know nothing about roller derby, and it doesn't really interest me. It doesn't interfere when reading the book for understanding, nor does it bog down with technical terms or explanations, making it boring. 👍

Such a great series. This is actually a pre-quell, when Mollie met Scooter. Still a mystery if that is his real name or not ….haha. These books have such great characters!!! I’m still sad to find out there may only be one more book(novella) to the series. The possibilities could’ve been endless with Mollie!!!! Happy Reading :)

A friend loaned me this book to read while I was waiting at a hospital. I wanted something that was light and easy reading. This definitely hit the mark. Characters are likable and fun. There was enough humor in this book to provide a welcome distraction and it made me want to search out additional books by this author. Recommended.

This was a quick read, and had little, if any, typographical errors.

There was no murder in this mystery...as the title indicates, the mystery was who committed the robbery of a package possibly containing drugs smuggled through the border. The main character, Mollie, was very likeable. I do want to read more in this series. Recommended!

For some reason I didn’t really enjoy this. I found the main character mildly irritating (no idea why), and I knew who the culprit was more or less straight away. It was a fun concept, but not for me.

This was an entertaining short mystery. I had a good suspicion who done it half way in, but I still enjoyed the ride. Engaging characters too.

What can I say? I loved this novella.

As a rule, I'm not a huge fan of amateur-sleuth type books. They're okay, but not my favorite cuppa tea. BUT... I read the other books in this series... and I enjoyed them. I'll admit, I read them because I like the author and wanted to support her, but I genuinely like the books, too. The characters are quirky and likable and there's usually enough humor to keep me smiling.

But this one? The story that takes you back to the beginning of where Mollie did her first amateur sleuthing, and when she first met the fella she married? This one, I loved. Made me laugh out loud more than once, and it might even have made me more understanding of her later ventures into amateur sleuthing. Wait, no. Scratch that. it definitely made me more understanding.

Now, I feel like Sam-I-am. I may not like green eggs and ham, but my thinking about this genre of writing has certainly shifted. At least for this particular writer's books. She's got talent out the wazoo, and her books are a real treat. I can say, without reservation, that I am looking forward to her next book.

Start with this one. You won't be sorry.

This was an easy five stars.

Even when on the rink with her roller derby team, Mollie is a klutz. She's had more bumps and bruises than the other women combined! Yet her clever mind goes fast to work when something is stolen from her friend in the locker room. As she tries to figure out who did it, she also promised to go on a blind date. Will Mollie survive to figure out who really is the villain and if this new guy is the man of her dreams?

I'm a big fan of the Mollie McGhie Cozy Sailing Mysteries, and this prequel novella was so much fun. It's quirky and silly and had me wondering until the end who did it. I also loved seeing the beginning of Mollie and the love of her life. I giggled a lot and ate this story up in one sitting. Now I'm craving Buckeyes. Mollie and I are in sync when it comes to snacks!

What a fun prequel to one of my new favorite series.

This installment tells the story of how Molly and Scooter Met, as well as recounts the first mystery Molly solved. BEWARE- there are no cute cats but lots of scary spreadsheets in this story.

I have to hand it to Ellen Jacobson. I figured out whodunnit pretty early on, but she had me second-guessing myself and laughing so much that when the big reveal came, it was quite a satisfying thrill.

Recommended to fans of cozy mysteries and humor.

Molly is a member of the Wild Waitresses roller derby team. She flies off into the lap of Scooter, but ends up getting a penalty. Her friend Misty consoles her, however, they discover a disturbing robbery has taken place in the locker room. I enjoyed this Prequel to the Molly McGie Mystery Series.

This is a great start to a new cozy mystery that is unique and fun! I love the roller derby and I love the whole idea of this series. This story is not about murder but it is serious business when they work to solve the mystery. I cannot wait for the next in the series.
