I felt like I started a movie about halfway through when I started this book. A large number of characters were thrown at the reader very quickly without a lot of context. This was definitely not a stand-alone read; I would recommend reading books 1 and 2 before reading this one. As the story progressed, many of the pieces fell into place.
I was glad to see that there was more to Flick than it seems at first. His internal dialog was all about how attractive he found Mallory. I was glad to see that as he got to know her that he valued her intelligence and strength as well. He definitely is a man who goes after what he wants - and he wants Mallory. Mallory for her part was a bit mean in her interactions with Flick. Granted she had just gotten out of a difficult relationship, but she's hot and cold with Flick when he expresses his interest and the silent treatment was just a tad childish.
With that said, the couple together at the end of the book was a lot of fun. The story is filled with quirky characters, themes of family and a whole lot of action. The pace was quite fast.
Three stars for this romantic intrigue story.
This is an honest, voluntary review of an ARC of the story.
