喪失感に苦しむジョン。

ハンターとしてだいぶ振り切れてきたのか、”殺し”にためらわなくなってきたジョン。相棒のハンターが応援に駆けつけるのを待たず攻撃する無謀なところも。

　今回、ヘルハウンドを通してメアリーが何かを伝えようとしているかもという仮説が浮上する。 ヘルハウンドは、ジョンとメアリーが結ばれたときからみていたようなのだが...。

メアリーがジョンの命を助けたことで、二人は結ばれ、その翌年ディーンが生まれ、４年後にメアリーが死んだとジョンが回想している。

　この辺りはドラマ版と違う設定で突き進んでいるっぽいというか、まだこれが出版された頃には二人の過去にドラマでは触れられていなかったのかもしれない。
