Quite a different take on the bully romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧
Romance: 💋💋💋💋
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📙📕📗📘
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 👨🏻👱🏻‍♀️🧔🏻👱🏼‍♂️

The heroine: Hazel (a.k.a. Hazy) - she lost her mother and best friend in a fire. She grew up on the mean streets of Philly and gets a scholarship to this exclusive school. She can’t turn it down since she had been living on her own while underage.

The Hero(es): Trey - The head of the Kings. He is dating a girl named Tilly, one of the queens of the school. He sets the stage on the first day Hazel arrives for everyone to bully her like they bully all scholarship students.
Ayaz - He seems to have a hatred for Hazel but after he does something particularly cruel to her, he doesn’t look satisfied, just sad.
Quinn (a.k.a. Quinnanigans) - He is a irredeemable flirt though he has a girlfriend, Courtney who is the Queen B of the school and a big bully herself.

The Story: The kings and queens of the school traditionally bully and belittle all of the scholarship students (there are 4). However, they are unprepared for someone like Hazel, who grew up with a mom who worked as a stripper, went to school with gang members and despite having terrible things done to her, is always willing to fight back.

On top of all that, there are strange things happening at the school. Teachers in long robes going into the basement, the parents of the Kings treating them like crap, sounds like rats in the walls, the kings acting strange and more.

I don’t want to give away what is going on at the school, but it is complex, evil and paranormal. I did really like the story. I especially liked the fact that there was some diversity included. One of the Kings and his sister were Turkish.

I really liked the narrator, Lee Duncan. She has the voice of a teenager, and had the perfect attitude for Hazel. The entire book is told in Hazel’s POV so of course the boys voices are done by the narrator, so I didn’t have a problem with the Turkish accent not being very authentic.

I ended up really liking the story but I have to admit there were some inconsistencies and quite a few things that didn’t make sense. However, overall I liked the way things went. This was a reverse harem and I liked how the romance between Hazel and each of the kings was sometimes sweet and sometimes hot. There was also an intimate scene with all of them that was scorching.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

I binge read this book over the course of two days. Thank God I had all four books ready to go because I couldn't put this series down. Hazel - the tough as nails girl from Philly; her tormentors, the three Kings: Trey - cruel, Ayaz - reluctant, and Quinn - the joker and the remainder of the Elite of Miskatonic Prep were all so individually well-developed. It was a love/hate relationship with them. Over the course of the four books you could see the Kings slowly changing as they fell for Hazel's strength and sense of right vs. wrong. After all they had done to torment her, she still wanted to help them be free. The books dripped of abuse, bullying, love that went awry, hatred, so it wasn't a faint of heart type of read, but I LOVED it all the same. The sexy times were sexxxy! I loved the scene in the cabin with Hazel and her Kings.
This book was just amazing, and I can't stop raving about it.
It's a recommended read - just be aware of the triggers mentioned above.

Shunned #1
She lost her mother and her best friend in the fire that destroyed their apartment building. Hazel thought that the offer of a scholarship at the prestigious school where the rich send their children was her way out of her old neighborhood and into a good college. It doesn't take Hazel long to realize that the gangs back home were easier to survive than the rich kids that populate this school. Unfortunately for the rich and arrogant bullies, Hazel isn't easily intimidated and she doesn't back down. The mean streets of Philly may have helped to make Hazel tough, but she begins to question her chances of surviving a year at Derleth Academy, and the three "kings," Trey, Quinn, and Ayaz that suddenly want to help her.

Wow, just WOW! Fantastic and terrifying plot with extreme bullying, an old mystery, and lots of suspense, that will keep you guessing. Fascinating and unique characters that are full of surprises. I loved this book.

Initiated #2
Hazel and the Kings, Ayaz, Trey, and Quinn, have teamed up to uncover the truth about the deity(?) living under the school. One of those truths, her friend, and fellow scholarship student, Andre, introduces Hazel to one of the staff in the laundry, a former scholarship student who is now little more than a slave. Each and every time Hazel decides she can trust the kings, she is attacked by members of the Eldritch club, and her protectors are powerless to save her from the abuse. A new ally will offer hope, but the rich, and powerful parents of the students are not going to let Hazel and her friends find a way to eliminate the powerful creature under the school.

Whew! Extreme, and violent bullying, but as the target, Hazel is determined to save herself, and the innocents who were lured to Derleth with the promise of a better, brighter future. I thought this is a fantastic read, but if you are sensitive to bullying, and in this case, it is extreme, and the violence is perpetrated by not only piers, but by the staff of the school, you may not enjoy this book as much as I did. The plot kept me guessing, with plenty of unexpected twists and surprising turns, I couldn't put it down. The characters are fascinating and well written, and each of them has their own, unanticipated, reasons for their actions.

Possessed #3
Quinn, Ayaz, and Trey finally broke her, one of them betrayed her, but Hazel just may surprise everyone. They tell her she's insane and are holding her prisoner in the Dunwich Institute. When the man in charge at the Institute tells her they are planning to perform an experimental surgery on her brain, they will find out that Hazel is not easy to keep confined. After she gets free she will return to Miskatonic Prep/Derleth Academy with the truth, and her revenge.

Fascinating, unique, and convincing characters that are looking for the truth, but they may not want to accept that truth. Magic, murder, a powerful creature from another dimension, and the members of secret society using its powers to achieve their selfish desire to dominate. Wow, fantastic book, I loved it!

Ignited #4
The Kings of Miskatonic Prep. may have lost their throne, but they are determined to continue the fight for their lives. Hazel has become more powerful than ever, and she makes a deal with the god beneath the school. Her fire can send the god home, and she will give her soul to save the students from the god, the faculty, and their parents. But, she must convince the men she loves, that their lives and the lives of the students, and staff, are worth fighting for, and saving.

Fascinating, unique, and compelling characters, some you might love, some you can't help but hate, but by the conclusion of this series you will be on the edge of you seat hoping for the freedom of the students, and the god(?) who resides under Miskatonic Prep. Wow! Exciting action, magic, mayhem, and plots within the plot, with unexpected, and surprising twists. I think this is a must read book, and a fantastic conclusion to an incredible series. I loved it!

Wow, I jumped right into this book and I couldn't put it down. The surprises just kept coming. You think it's just another bullied teen book but it's so much more. They take mean to a whole another level. The Kings are just bored and I didn't think they got anything for what they dished out. The Queens are jealous, hateful, spiteful witches. Who I think could've and not feel a thing doing it. Hazel was just dropped into this situation. She should have read the manual but when you're in emotional pain that's the last thing you want to do. She was already a target walking in. She could be down and naive at times. I yelled a couple times don't do it then why.!
The total change in the Kings have me stumped. Why are they helping and nice all of a sudden. The school and the teachers are frightening. I'm scared for her friends just as much as I am for Hazel. She's a rebel and changes her mind so fast.
The ending was so intense! I'm like what the crap. All the secrets are starting to fall down.
I can't wait for book two. I am driving right into it when it's out. I didn't come up for air on one . I'm expecting secrets to be
Book 2 had so many twist and turns. Hazel don't know who she can trust. She never knows who coming for or waiting to attack her. She certainly has to keep an eye on the Kings. Yeah they act like they want her but do they really or are they planning some other turmoil to make her crazy. She knows Courtney wants her dead seriously. I just think the heifer is jealous. But Hazel is determined to attract revenge on them all for the turmoil and pain all the orphans have endured. The Kings try to help save her but it back fires. She makes the ultimate sacrifice.
There are so many twist turns and surprises. I can't wait for book 3 to see how she gets out her predicament. Hazel is surely testing me.
Book 3 was crazy good. It literally was. They wanted to make Hazel crazy or seem that way. Just when she thinks she can trust the Kings they betray her and she winds up in a crazy hospital. Just when they ready to take her mind forever one King shows up in her dreams and saves her. Now Hazel is out for blood. They unleash her fire. She knows now she has to use it instead of suppressing it. She is now determined to end it all. But who can she trust. One King shows up promising her help. She wants to free her friends and all the kids of the school. Will they believe her or help destroy her, which won't be easy now that she has her fire.
This book was major intense. The ultimate thrill ride. So many questions got answered in this book and all we need now is a conclusion. People need to pay for what they have done for greed, for sacrificing their children for it and others. People are so disposable to them. If you aren't rich or white you aren't worth anything. God will make them pay through Hazel. I'm so rooting for her. She deserves a happy ever after. The ending is everything, PERIOD!! I expect this last book to be epic.
I thought book 3 had a great ending even though it had a cliffhanger. This book had an amazing ending. I really hate that it's over. Hazel was determined to free everyone even the ones who tried to hurt her. Even sacrificing herself cause she thinks of herself as a murderer. After everything that's happened she has to win all the students love for her plan to work. She also needed all her Kings. She knows The Dead Mistress and The Parents have other plans for the power of The Shadow but Hazel has him on her side.
This book was so action packed, intense and intriguing. I loved the whole series. Hazel became a very strong heroine, smart and focused.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. All these words of from my own opinion.

I read all of these books as an advanced reader. My reviews were voluntary. This box set is a perfect way to read the series – no cliffhangers!

Shunned 5 stars

Wow, are you going to be stunned at the end of this one. I am sure my mouth was hanging open as I read the last words. This book brings mean girls, and guys, to a whole new place. Maggots, rotten meat, ugh. (There is even a Carrie reference. Now that movie was seriously sick.) It seems like the guys have a lot of secrets that we will, hopefully, see uncovered in future books. It is going to be interesting to find out what exactly the evil is at the school, and see how Hazel and the guys defeat it. And what will that mean for them? (You have to read the book so you can ponder on that question until the next one!)

Initiated 4 stars

In truth, I had a hard time finishing this. For some reason, it was really creeping me out and I would stop and read something else for a while. Then I made the mistake of cheating and going to the end, and what happened seemed so traitorous that I really had a hard time finishing then. Lol. The story is really good, just very tension-filled and, well, creepy. The book starts where the last one left off and once again ends in a ohcrap cliffhanger. I am not going to ruin it for you with spoilers, except to say I did like the superglue and graffiti!

Possessed 5 stars

Holy cow. This one starts out with a whimper and ends with a bang. I came wait to see what is going to happen next. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so I am just going to say that it will make you cheer and cringe. Things you thought were one way will turn out to be another. Hold on tight, here comes Hazel.

Ignited 5 stars

Wow, what an impressive finish to this series. Hazel has returned to Miskatonic Prep in a fiery show of her power. She is determined to finally get her revenge and find a way to free her Kings from their prison. It is going to take a lot of planning to bring it all together and she can't let any of the guys know about her bargain with the god. She is going to figure out a way to free all of the students, teachers, and staff if it is the last thing she does. Then she can go to the god with the knowledge that Trey, Quinn, and Ayaz will have the lives they were cheated out of by the Eldritch Club. But how is she ever going to let them go?

Heat: 🌶️🌶️

When a tragic accident leaves Hazel orphaned at 17, she does whatever it takes to survive the slums of Philly. Trying to keep herself out of the foster system, Hazel accepts an invitation to the prestigious Derleth Academy, even if it does seem a bit strange that she would be offered a scholarship at such an establishment.

When Hazel arrives at her new school, she realizes she may have traded one prison for another. The students of this elitist school hate scholarship students like Hazel, and they have no problems going to any extreme necessary to let her know she is not welcome. The kings and queens of the school go to extreme lengths to let their hatred be known, but Hazel is different. Hazel is ready for a fight they never saw coming.

The longer Hazel is at Derleth, the more she realizes things are FAR from what they seem, but the truth seems impossible. As she starts to uncover buried secrets of the school, Hazel starts to develop friendships with the other scholarship students, and unfortunately for the monarchs at the school, Hazel also fights for those that she cares about.

The more Hazel begins to uncover, the more the Three Kings of Derleth Academy take notice of her, and against all odds, they seem intrigued. They seem not only to like Hazel, but to want to help her. But in a place where nothing is as it seems, can she trust the bond that they are forming and trust them to help her fight the evil that has lurked at this school for decades? What about the evil that lurks inside of Hazel?

***

Kings of Miskatonic Prep is a paranormal, enemies to lovers, reverse harem bully romance, heavy on the bully part. The bullying that takes place in this book had me appalled at times. Some of the things the monarch students pulled in this book went way too far. I almost struggled with the turn from enemies to lovers because of all the extreme things they did to her in the beginning. If I am being honest, it wasn’t the only struggle I had with the book. The reveal of what happened in the accident that took her mom and best friend and the ‘why’ behind it… I get it, but that’s doesn’t mean I liked it any more than before the ‘why’ is explained. Also, the ages of the main characters. Sure, they fit in with the whole prep school setting, I found myself pretending they weren’t teenagers so that I enjoyed it a bit more, but that is just me.

Overall, the story was fun. The characters grow and evolve while facing evils that you don’t quite expect going in. There are certainly fun twists, turns, and reveals along the way and it gives concludes nicely at the end in a way that feels complete.

Epic Story!

So I’m not sure if I just didn’t pay that much attention to the blurb or if it just wasn’t mentioned but I thought this was just going to be another bully romance set at a school, the usual…..I cold not have been more wrong! There was so much mystery and craziness happening and I didn’t expect any of it so I found my jaw falling open in shock numerous times. This boxset is the whole series of four books plus some bonus content which was totally worth it. The amount of details that went into this story is stunning. There was so much that made this story so very unique from other books in this genre but I really don’t want to spoil any of it because it is really important to find out everything in the same way Hazel does. Hazel was a really strong FMC and she fought tooth and nail for what she believed in. She put everyone in their place and was the bigger person in the end. The guys did so much terrible things, not only to her, and it was hard for awhile there to see any possible way that they could redeem themselves but in the end they did. Many of the other students also redeemed themselves in the end as well. All in all, this was an amazing story with twists and turns that I never expected and I truly enjoyed reading this!

I can't wait to open this set in paperback!

This is a series that took me by surprise. I actually read it ages ago but never got around to reviewing it. It was the phase where I was reading all of the academy romance books thanks to clearing C.M.'s catalogue and someone suggested it to me. Totally worth it.

The biggest hiccup was that the characters start as kids, always a bit weird at first knowing where the story will more than likely end up, but you get sucked into the plot as it goes and none of that matters. The other thing that tripped me up slightly was that I went in knowing not a single thing about the books. So the shift into paranormal/fantasy was a little jarring.

I mean, this book went from 0-100 in the best way. I'm sitting at almost a year later writing this and I still remember most of the series. It took until the end of the second book not to hate almost everyone though 🤣 the guys in this series earned their bully badge for sure.

Incredible plot, it was very original, you will NOT guess where it's going. In the end I loved the characters and I have since put this series on my list of physical copies to buy. Absolutely recommend!

A great boxset on the Kings of Miskatonic Prep, where you don't have to wait to binge read them all at once. I read these books individually and loved them all. Shunned - introduces us to Hazel has lost her mother and best friend, and she was struggling to keep off the radar of the CPS, she has taken a few jobs to pay her way. She naturally leaps at the chance when she is offered a scholarship at Derleth Academy in Arkham, Massachusetts. Although it might cost her in other ways, when not everything is as it seems, and her treatment at the hands of others can be cruel. She attracts the attention of the popular cruel boys (Trey, Quinn and Ayaz). Will she survive? Can she possibly get some revenge on those that deserve it?

Kings of Miskatonic complete series

Hazel is an orphan given a chance of a scholarship in a school for the rich and elite. But all is not as it seems. The kings and Monarchs are bullies. The Kings realise there is something different about this scholarships student. The Teachers and Parents are worse than the students but Hazel is stong. These books tell you that working together building trust and love will help and not all family have to be blood. There is a lot of betrayal that the students only learn because of hazel. Hazel is willing to sacrifice herself to help free the ones she love. But if a slow burn but I loved the plot and the Characters even if I to wanted to punch a few of them lol but an excellent series

They will get their revenge. A under privileged girl given a free ride at an exclusive academy. Rich kids bullying her and other poor kids like her who were given a scholarship to the school. The three "kings". Rich and powerful, and no one messes with them. A demon, ghosts, re-incarnation, parents sacrificing their children for fame and riches. Just a little tease about what this box set is all about, but the intrigue and mystery will keep you on the edge of your seat. What is really going on at this school and how is it related to the fire from years ago that killed many students? Can Hazel figure it out and save everyone or will she be sacrificed?

What an utterly fantastic box set. Each and every story is better than the last. Hazel creats havoc at her new school because she is so different. And three gorgeous guys are there to help her on her way from the school: Trey, Ayaz, and Quinn. Each one so different from the other. Fancy having three guys turn their charm on you. Having them in your life and all yours to play with at will. A very, very highly recommended series. And so great to be able to read one book straight after the other.

Wow, just wow!

This was honestly amazing, from the extremely well written storyline to the fantastic characters.
I was totally blown away, the twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat - amazing!
Such darkness and then the light.
I haven’t read anything similar to this before, it’s totally original.
I loved this series and can’t wait to read further books by this author in the very near future, like tomorrow.

Well written for a YA/fantasy/reverse harem romance. I liked that there was more going on in our heroine’s life than getting dicked by a group of alpha-holes. I also like that she’s actually fairly intelligent and not simply mouthy. I mean, kids, this is a romance, so it’s not going to change your life or radically alter your world view—but then, not everything needs to do that. This is porn for people who like a little plot and and characterization with it.

A dramatic and dark story to gross you out and steam you up at the same time.

I could not have predicted how this story would go at any point during reading it which meant Stef did an excellent job keeping my attention enthralled right to the very end.

This is an update on my recent read of this book. I actually listened to the audible copy this time and thoroughly enjoyed the narration almost as much as me reading and imagining the voices myself. The great part of this was catching little things I missed while reading and enjoying parts from the guys points of view. ONCE again, I can't say enough about this author and her talents and now the added enjoyment of listening to the audible copy.
What started off slow in what ends up as a very interesting and complete series, ended with me very much looking forward to reading more by Steffanie Holmes.
As I like to read other reviews to see how others feel about a specific authors writings, I was a bit surprised to see just average reviews on this one. For me, the author draws me in with her dark topics and reverse harem format, but it's so much more.

In her writing I read between the lines. Her intelligence shines in the background information she translates, even with the reverse harem topic at the front. There is a deep set knowledge revealed in details. Her characters each are so different yet, they work so perfectly in unisom to one another. The stories capture my attention (since yes, I love the darker side), and continue to pull me under the further I read and get to know the characters, their backgrounds and feel the pull and pressure to rise above their circumstances. Not only in this series but others of hers I have read as well. Different authors call to us as individuals. Their imaginations are an agent for us to release our darker parts. For me, I am enthralled with her knowledge, imagination and look forward to so much more from her. Remember, not everyone likes this type of book so be fair in your reviews. But if you like books that a bit darker with souls that long to love, learn or escape their cages, I think you may like Steffanie Holmes.
With that said, try out her Nevermore book store series but don't stop there....she has so much to offer.

When an underprivileged girl is brought into the prestigious Miskatonic Prep, crazy starts to happen. Her difference in relation to the "rich" shines through in interesting ways. And while she creates chaos, the mysteries that surround her seem to deepen. A dark, paranormal, bully romance, this boxset is, at times, difficult to read without hiding your eyes. (maybe that's just me!). Quinn, Ayaz and Trey may be the leaders of the school, but beneath the bravado and the taunts, their broken personalities only showcase the need to be helped. Books 1-4 carry the story of the first introduction to the final resolution. Will you be brave enough to read it all?
