About the author

David Butler's greatest love is people. He had adopted as a life motto: "Stuff no mattah, people mattah." His favorite people are his wife, Jenny, and their six darling children. Some of his other loves include good food, spontaneous adventures, Christmas morning, and the sea. David cohosts the popular YouTube scripture study channel Don't Miss This with Emily Belle Freeman and is the author of many religious books, including Ites: An Illustrated Guide to the People in the Book of Mormon; The Peter Potential; and Almighty: How the Most Powerful Being in the Universe Is Also Your Loving Father. A few friends had mentioned this book and it piqued my interest as possibly being a bit more modern on Sunday school. Plus it's written by a man and a woman who collaborate and aren't married, which is practically unheard of in LDS culture.

It's standard Sunday school fare with some interesting thoughts, stories, and context on scriptural phrases found throughout the D&C. Both authors have experience in CEC callings/jobs and so it doesn't feel much different from a seminary or institute class devotional thought.

I did feel like a lot of the entries were very tangential to the actual text. Each entry starts with an except from the scriptural section that will be highlighted in the devotional entry. Sometimes it was a verse, with key phrases bolded, but way too often it was the phrase all on its own, without even a complete sentence around it. While this book is meant to be a companion to scripture study and you can easily find the full context in the scripture, I felt that this practice lent to many of the entries wandering far from the text itself, and sometimes the removal from context led to misinterpretation (section 89 has such an overgeneralization).

For readers who are looking for something that might help them boost their personal study, especially in interest or frequency, I think the book can be a useful tool, and many will enjoy it. For people looking for something more nuanced than Sunday school, this book isn't it.

I actually originally posted this to my daughter's account by accident. I've enjoyed other books by this team. I love the book of scripture entitled "The Doctrine and Covenants" which I have read several times before. Adding this study guide focusing on verses in this book of scripture was insightful ad really helped me understand more. It's a page a day and is a companion to one's study for the day. It was nice to see things presented from a different angle and gave me food for thought.
This is definitely a keeper on my shelf and I will be rereading it.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about the Gospel, Jesus Christ, and prophets.

This book added so much to my study of the Doctrine & Covenants this year - I loved it! A mini devotional is included for each section, and historical context, stories and insights teach simple lessons. There's also a "reflect and respond" section, where you can reflect on and respond to a question or two. You can record your favorite verse from the section as well!

I appreciated the insights and personal stories that related to a specific scripture here and there that are shared in this study companion. It enhanced my scripture study experience.

I used the DMT in the Book of Mormon last year and already have my copy of DMT in the Old Testament for 2022. These books are easy to add to my study, with short entries, but pack a lovely punch for the small space they take.

I enjoyed listening to and learning from them as I studied the doctrine and covenants in my come follow me study this year. This was a great little book to augment my study of the Doctrine and Covenants in Sunday school this year. It takes one verse from each section and elaborates on it. It also allows the reader to reflect on how that particular item or topic would impact his or her life. I highly recommend it. I think these authors have written books for the other standard works. I am going to search out the one on the Old Testament and use it next year.

2025- used this as a resource as we studied the D&C in SS this year.
