I love MLP. This graphic novel has two stories, it starts buff where the tv series ends. The first story Apple jack and Zecora go back to the zebras and help them discover the elements. the second story is with Scootaloo and her parents. Both stories were well done. I could see it in my head like the show, all the characters kept their speech patterns and characteristics. The art was amazing, loved it all.

AMAZING!!!! It felt like the show never ended! I also enjoyed Zecora's backstory and hometown, and even more mysteries about Equestria.

Aren't these books for children?!?!?
As a parent , I grow weary of the LGBTQ+ and woke agenda being pushed on my children through their favorite media . It is not your job to introduce these topics to your audience. Work at writing good story lines and leave the personal and private topics to the parents.

According to the summary, this collects issues #89-93 of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic comic series.
It continues where, presumably, season 9 of the television series leaves off (I have only been able to watch up through season 8). Between those 8 seasons, the movie, and the previously published comic series, I was able to patch together the climax of season 9 and read this without any confusion. The main story in this volume concerns Zecora, Ponyville’s zebra neighbor. Princess Twilight wants to spread the ideals of friendship beyond the borders of Equestria. She divides her friends, the Mane 6, and some more minor characters of the series into teams to visit other countries. Applejack, Zecora, Rookhoof, and Tempest she sends to Zecora’s homeland, much to Zecora’s chagrin. No one has asked why she left her home or why she has never before gone back to visit.
The first story in this volume cracks open Zecora’s childhood and backstory when they are greeted at the harbor by an old friend of Zecora’s. Zebras are not inherently magical like unicorns, or the indigenous creatures of the zebra homeland, kelpies and abada, but Zecora was always fascinated by magic and devoted herself to learning magic, to the detriment of her childhood friendships.
She and her reunited friends set out with Applejack, Rookhoof, and Tempest to stop the attacks of a grootslang, a dragon-like creature that plagues Zecora’s hometown.
I would have enjoyed exploring more thoroughly the zebra homeland and the creatures and magic of that land, but the comic certainly sets itself up for a spinoff series, so maybe we’ll be back. There is a HUGE opportunity here too invite Black writers and African writers or writers of the African diaspora to work on this series.
One critique I have of the television series is in its depiction of creatures derivative of non-white cultures, which tend to rely heavily on stereotypes and which are frequently at odds with ponies before the intervention of the Mane 6 in their dispute (the series did get marginally better on this account as the series continued; ponies whose cultures were derivative of Egypt and of Near East Asia played larger, more positive roles in season 8).
Dust Devil, an abada, and their Ogres and Oubliettes character, Callindria Darkshadow, are nonbinary, using they/them pronouns. Bonbon has a ring that she is showing to Pinkie Pie and Maud at the beginning of the novel. Pinkie says “Oooh! I am so happy for you and Lyra! You’re such a cute couple!” which seems to imply that Lyra and Bonbon are canonically engaged or married!
The second story cracks open Scootaloo’s backstory and her family’s story. In the first 8 seasons, Scoot’s family is never discussed beyond her jealousy of the support that Rainbow Dash’s parents give her. Here Scootaloo is living with two aunts, characters new to me. While they might be two sisters of her parents, I think it more likely that these mares, Holiday and Lofty, are married or partnered!
Scootaloo’s parents, home for a brief visit, are conservationists, seemingly modeled off the real-world Irwins (cragadile wrestling is a family tradition). Her parents take her to the Canterlot Institute of Creature Research to show her what they do when they are away, but Scootaloo does not enjoy the activities that her parents have planned at all.
Scoot worries that her parents won’t like the pony that she has become while they were away. With her aunts’ encouragement, she confesses to her parents that she didn’t enjoy any of the activities they had done the day before. She shows them the things she has been doing and become interested in while they’ve been away, and they admire her boldness and remind her that she will always be family, that shared interests don’t make a family.
The lesson here echoes the lesson of the first story: how important it is to talk to your friends, to be open and honest about your feelings, even when you’re hurt or scared.
This book convinced me I really do need to find season 9 to see how bold the show’s creators were with these queer characters.
This collection as a continuation of an existing series is interesting and builds on the characters and the world, but I am not sure how well it would hold up without the lore. What new concepts it does introduce are not particularly well fleshed-out, though they are intriguing.

This was a wonderful comic! I always wanted to know more about Zecora and where she came from, and my wish finally came true. We get to meet a colorful cast of fun new characters. The art was beautiful and fun, and the story had me laughing and smiling all throughout. The only thing I wish is that we had spent a bit more time on the Farisian Shore learning about the different creatures that live there and their cultures. Also,

You need to know some of the previous stories to read. But an older reader can pick it up. This is just pure My Little Pony with all the "ponytastic" adventures. An additional story at the end makes the Ponies modern and the alternative covers and artwork was a fun addition.

Wow, I kinda really loved this book? I think something about the themes addressed in this book just really resonated with me and somehow moved me to tears.
