This book in the series is even more gripping than the previous books. With a new interim chief in place pieces are starting to fall together. It leaves you wondering if the interim chief did something to cause the real chief to be injured because Callum is hiding something. With Claire’s good friend Jeremy under suspicion for murdering three kids she has to fight to prove his innocence. There is definitely something off about Ben, but could it really be what Oliver suggested? I really enjoy how this author is bringing back people that were part of Claire‘s past and throwing them in the middle of new situations. I also love that the author has the police force working other cases and that each book is not solely about Harris. I’m looking forward to the conclusion and having all questions answered.

Mysterious Bones

The story continues with Claire being all at sea regarding the killer as more bones are discovered. Meanwhile, she is faced with solving another case of the sudden deaths of three students. How did they die? Why would someone want to kill them? Will be eagerly awaiting the next book as the story gets more intriguing. A well crafted story with a lot of action

This is the fourth novella in the Isle of Bute Suspense Mystery series and continues the story of main character Detective Claire Juno and her return to her home island after many years away. After her police chief got badly injured, her father Callum, the former police chief of the island, is asked to fill in. Unfortunately, Claire doesn’t have a great relationship with her father and hasn’t since her mother committed suicide, shortly after her younger brother Harris went missing. Now his bones have been found and it seems there is a serial killer on the island, as many other bin bags of body parts have been found deep under water off the island. Her brother’s case is one of many cold cases and Claire and her former father figure and now senior detective Ben Courtney have a new case on the nature reserve land owned by an old school mate of Claire’s.

A murder has occurred on a school trip, with the lead teacher and the slightly odd landowner being questioned as the main suspects. Claire doesn’t want people she grew up with and knows well, or thought she did, to be accused of murder, especially when she thinks there might be someone else responsible! Her relationship with her partner is now getting a bit too familiar after her one of her landlords mentioned something. Ben and Claire end up frustrated with Callum acting as their interim chief and the fact he would prefer for them both to go back to the mainland! Small island living, where everyone knows each other, but with a serial killer leaving multiple bodies around the island.

A storyline that is carried out over numerous short novellas, which I would have preferred reading in one book, rather than loads of shorter tales. Nice to see a Scottish Island being used as the location. Part of the cases are fairly easy to solve for yourself, but the cold cases and serial cases are certainly more complex. You can’t help thinking about who is responsible for all the dead bodies and have a guess at who the serial killer is. There are small hints at their identity, but the blurb for the book is misleading, going from female to male suspect, from one line to the next. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

This 4th instalment continues the series and the case. The discovery of more bones leads the detectives to the premise of a serial killer, while still investigating other crimes as well. Family conflict adds to the drama.
As usual, Fuller gives us a book that is full of a cation and intrigue. He further develops the characters until they are as real as friends to the reader - not characters in a book! The plot is rich and well developed snd this book serves to further hook the reader and makes one want the next book before the final words are read in this novella!
Again, Fuller has a winner!!

Great series I have finished all in one day. I just couldn't put it down I had to see if I was corrected in picking the serial killer. Great characters and writing. I will be reading more of Levi's writing from now on.

Whew…omg..nail biting .
A well written twisted plot for sure. I’m on pins and needles to know who done it and why. I have a couple of suspects. I want to know who done it and where Claire will end up. On to the next book.
