- Mothmeister's second book, more unearthly than the first - Extremely popular Belgian duo whose work combines taxidermy, photography and a love for the lurid and the otherworldly - Their first book, Weird and Wonderful Post-Mortem Fairy Tales (2018), sold out, and is out of print - "Their eerie photos of human-animal hybrids walking wonderfully surreal landscapes thumb their noses at traditional beauty standards." - VICE In Dark and Dystopian Post-Mortem Fairy Tales, the Belgian artistic duo Mothmeister bring together their signature mixture of creepy masks, taxidermy, and photography with lurid and cinematic effect. Through themes such as "the veterinary school aka the horror labs," "pervert priest" and "Chernobyl" they profess their love for the cult of the dead, circus life, religion and mythology. In this, their second book, they also give the floor to the artist friends they have collaborated with.
Mindblowing. Creepily stunning work - from pictures to stories, from taxidermy pieces to layout and print quality. Absolutely thrilled with this addition to my library!
I don't recall how I heard about this book, but I bought it immediately a few years ago. It is an extraordinary blend of taxidermy, costuming, and natural ruins all stitched together beautifully to create several dark and disturbing fairy tales of a sort. An absolutely stunning book.
A deeply unnerving yet beautiful book not only filled with creative talent but also some fascinating slices of history of the dead or dying landscapes of the world.
