I read all of these books as an advanced reader. My reviews are voluntary.

The Nutcracker Curse 4 stars

Very nice YA story about how Clara was cursed by her step-sister, Griselda and she has 12 days to find the Crackatook nut and feed it to the nutcracker or she will be trapped inside the toy forever. Join Clara and her best friend, palace guard Philip, as they follow the path that leads to the Inverse Kingdom and the seven-headed mouse king. Their journey will include three other lands where they must prove themselves in order to obtain things that will help them achieve their goal. Can they get there in time to save Clara?

The Bluebeard Curse

3.5 stars. First, let me say that I like most everything Margo writes. This book, though, was not my favorite. It had way too much death in it for me.

Nolan has returned home to take over his family lands and inheritance which his uncle has been managing for him for the last five years. Nolan left home when his sister murdered their parents and he found her over the bodies and turned her in. He feels guilty that he didn't protect her from his father's anger and his mother's neglect.

Delilah has been keeping an eye on her brother using a mirror left to her by a former inmate of the prison where she is incarcerated. She is angry that her own brother turned her in and now is going to return home and take up the reins of his father's business and live in their old home. She vows to make him sorry that he turned against her.

Jolie is working as a maid for Nolan's uncle Greg and he allows her to practice her piano playing in the evenings. She has dreams of bettering herself by being a pianist, but she is not entirely sure how to make that happen. When she hears that Nolan is coming back to the house where she works she is afraid he might not allow her to use the piano to practice. It is not until she meets him that she finds herself with a new dream.

When women start to die in Hamburg and Nolan is suspected of being responsible, Jolie is determined to do whatever it takes to prove his innocence. Can she find out the truth before she becomes a victim?

The Hansel and Gretel Curse 5 stars

This book is a completely different interpretation of the Hansel and Gretel story you know from childhood. You still get the candy and gingerbread houses and the witch, but that is about the only resemblance to the original fairy tale. In this one, Hansel and Gretel are 17-year-old twins and Hansel is taken by the witch as part of a contract that was signed by their mother before he was born. Gretel goes to try to rescue him from the witch, Roswita, and her magic candies which give her a village full of minions that gladly follow her every order. Throw in a prince and some dragons and you have a tale of loyalty, perseverance, and even some romance. I enjoyed it very much.

The Cursed Fairy Tales Boxed Set
By Margo Ryerkerk
Rating: 4/5

As someone who enjoys fairy tale retellings, I was so excited to get an ARC of three stories that aren’t usually reimagined, and I liked them so much that I purchased the set. I had never heard of the author before and wanted to see how her writing was. She did not disappoint and the stories were well thought out and made me want to keep reading to the end. I will definitely need to read some more from this author.

Some thoughts on The Nutcracker Curse:
I’ve actually never read a retelling about the Nutcracker and was delighted by this adventure where a young woman shows her strength and intelligence to break the curse. She doesn’t wait for some prince to rescue her, but she also doesn’t refuse help when needed.

Some thoughts on The Bluebeard Curse:
Here we have another story that I am unfamiliar with, but I thoroughly enjoyed the journey this story took me on. Again we have a young woman who helps her master with his curse. She is not afraid of him like everyone else in town. She fights to find her place and protect those she loves.

Some thoughts on The Hansel and Gretel Curse:
Such a unique retelling! This one was my favorite. She saved the best for last. What would it be like to have to resist the urge to eat something that smells so good and makes you feel so good? This story is so clever and imaginative and I need more from this author! Gretel is on a quest to save her twin brother, Hansel, who was last seen with a witch. Gretel discovers some unsettling secrets about her past and the witch. Can she find the strength to resist the witch’s magic and take back her brother? She has some help along the way in Stefan, a general looking to defeat the witch, and from some dragons.

Highly recommend if you enjoy fairy tale retellings reimagined with lots of adventure and romance.

My thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

I feel this series is good for younger YA readers. The series starts strong with The Nutcracker Curse, alone I gave this book 4 stars. The characters are great and I enjoyed the storyline. I liked that Clara started as a strong character, not in a bad ass way but she still was ready to end her curse on her own. Near the end, the scene of Phillip as a wooden doll seemed rushed, there’s really not much to it at all. This book ends with a happy ending for both good and evil and that had me worried for book two.

I didn’t enjoy The Blue Beard Curse, alone I would give this one 2 stars. It was hard for me to get into the book, I instantly disliked Delilah and spoiler: I’m glad she doesn’t get a happy ending. To be honest I’m not a fan with the town overall. Most of the town dislikes Nolan, even his “best friend” but yet they all believe he’s not a murderer so easily. This book and me just didn’t connect.

Book three: The Hansel and Gretel Curse. Alone I would give this book 3 stars. It starts off promising and hooks you in. After they are in the Gingerbread Village, for me things began to slow down. I think it would have been better if the author didn’t try to make Gretel and Stephen a love interest. I thought their feelings for each other were random and I don’t think they have chemistry, it also made their ending together weird. The final scene between Gretel and the witch was great, it wasn’t dragged on but it also didn’t feel rushed.

The Nutcracker Curse has been a very enjoyable journey through magical realms with magical creatures and with some great characters. I will have to say that I enjoyed The Nutcracker Curse way more than I ever thought I would. Margo Ryerkerk is one of those authors who know how to make a story explode right off the pages into magical worlds.

The Bluebeard Curse is a fast-paced read that once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down. The race was on to find out the truth behind the curse and to see if the curse could be broken and how. The Bluebeard Curse is a sweet and magical read that will pull you into its magical world.

The Hansel and Gretel Cruse was a fast-paced and enthralling read that kept me hooked from the first page pulling me in with all of its magical twists and temptations I couldn’t get enough of its sweet magical world. I can’t wait to read more in the Cursed Fairy Tale world.

I read and loved The Nutcracker Curse! I will update this review as I read the next two books in the box set.

I love retellings, and this one combined The Nutcracker with another one I'd never heard of about a unicorn. The main characters of Clara and Phillip worked well together, and Clara's development in realizing her strength was great. I always love a female lead that turns out to be stronger and better at things than she originally thinks she is, but not necessarily through magical means but instead, hard work and determination, which Clara demonstrates. I liked Griselda's storyline as well, but I won't say anything else about it for fear of spoilers!

If you like Melanie Cellier's retellings, definitely check these out!

So I absolutely love fairy tale rewrites. I have read so many little red riding hoods and beauty and beasts books it's a bit crazy.
These books are a completely fresh set of fairy tales retold in a fun and unique way. I found myself diving into the lore behind these three tales and completely forgetting they were loosely based off old tales. They were so well imagined and written that they drew me in. I loved how dimensional the characters were and how well the conversation flowed. I found myself dying to know what twists and turns would happen next. I very much enjoyed the darkness of these stories which portrayed these tales as the were originally meant to be.
Over all great read, imaginative story line and I will definitely read this author again

Engaging. A unique re-telling of the nutcracker with Clara and the Mouse King. Clara is cursed and must go on a quest or within several days her soul will be trapped in the nutcracker and she will be a wooden doll. The Bluebeard Curse. Nolan Bluebeard has been cursed by his deranged sister and it will be up to the woman who has fallen in love with him to break it. Hansel is under the spell of the witch and Gretel needs to rescue him. But the witch has lofty ideas to take the crown and she needs to find the hidden prince and princess. Gretel along with a general needs to stop the witch.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review

I received a free copy of this book set however my opinions are my own.

I enjoyed these stories. I liked that they all centred around the same world which made them easy to read without having to learn a new world at the beginning of each book. Book 2 was probably my favorite of the three as I wasn’t familiar with the original story. The author did a fantastic job at creating the characters and making them seem real and relatable. The relationships the characters have with one another, though sometime cliché, don’t seem rushed or fake like some books are. Overall, I enjoyed the set.

These are really great retellings. I am a huge fan of fairytale reimaginings and this series does not disappoint. All three stories take place in the same world and therefore build on one another. While I was not familiar with Bluebeard at all, I can say that the story was great and the characters compelling. I can also say that The Nutcracker and Hansel and Gretel are refreshed in fantastic ways. This is a very entertaining and satisfying series.

I loved these books that took the fairy tales I grew up on and twisted them into a fun new stories. They made me laugh and groan but entertained me well. I had to keep reading each one to see what surprises were going to show up next and who the main characters would get out of the trouble they found themselves in. I loved how the stories flowed well and before I knew it I was at the end. Just fun reads.

Three delightful and highly entertaining faitytale retellings in one handy collection! The author has focuses on three rather not very popular fairytales to re-imagine: The Nutcrucker, Bluebeard and Hansel & Gretel and does a wonderful job with the storyline and the character developement. Each and every story in this box set is engrossing, with plenty of magic, adventure and unique plot twists. If you're a fan of fairytale retellings, you'll definitely want to read them.

This is a very intriguing set of three fairy tale retellings. I am a big fan of taking old favorites and giving them a new interpretation, and these tales did not disappoint. I did find the second one (The Bluebeard Curse) to be a little dark. It was still well-written, just not my favorite. I really enjoyed the authors creativity and inventiveness in these tales.

These are great stories with an interesting twist. I loved all the unique characters, but especially the strong female lead characters that decide to take matters into their own hands, rather than wait to be rescued. These tales have action, danger, adventure, mystery, magic, suspense, deceit, romance, curses, nobles, revenge, loss, a quest, witches and twists and turns.

This is a wonderful box set of fairytales that have been retold. Blackbeard’s Curse, Hansel and Gretels Curse and The Nutcracker Curse have been retold in a new version and each has a new storyline. It has lots of action and the characters are developed and pull you into the stories. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

A roller coaster of fairy tale adventures!
They feel a bit like traditional fairy tales. But with fascinating differences. Like a princess saving herself, evil characters getting their own say and settings in the real world.
I loved it!

Cursed Fairy Tales is a superb collection of stories and this is a sweet deal of a box set. I’ve previously read (and separately reviewed) each of The Nutcracker Curse, The Bluebeard Curse, and The Hansel and Gretel Curse. They were all easily 5-star tales and it’s therefore a no-brainer to rate this set the same.
