Wow. This book is comprehensive and cohesive and an absolute must-read for authors at every stage of their careers! It isn't a quick-fix hype machine of how to write faster. It IS a well thought-out plan on how to maintain your health and creativity while still striving for every-higher levels of success as a writer. Every suggestion comes with easy-to-follow steps on how to implement. Every change that is mentioned is to help you remain a healthier WHOLE person, while still helping you to be at peak performance to reach your goals. I will be recommending this to everyone. If you have a mental or physical or creative burnout, this will help. If you don't have it yet/right now? Read it anyway, because it will lay out how to avoid common pitfalls. This is a fantastic book!
This book is intense. It's a hefty read. It's filled with harsh truths and realities about the Author-business, some harder to take than others. But let me tell you—this book changed my life!
I cannot express how profoundly Lydia's words made an impact. Split into 3 parts (Health & Wellness, Business, and Craft), it covers every aspect of writing you could need to know about and some you didn't think existed. Lydia delves into the heart and soul of writing, as a passion and as a business, shares inside details about all the levels of authorship (beginner indie to mega traditionally published), and sometimes even reaches into your soul and makes you reexamine your work/life so far. I can't say how many "lightbulb moments" I had while reading (my mouth dropped many times, along with the book!)
There are countless craft books out there, but honestly, this one encapsulates so much information about such varied topics (the Health & Wellness part alone would be enough for me to recommend this book ten times over!) that this is the ONLY book you'll need in your arsenal.
If I could give 10 stars, I would. Highly recommend!

In a profession that can sometimes feel like the loneliest place on earth, this book has compiled everything - I mean, EVERYTHING - a seasoned or aspiring author needs to know. Broken down into three parts, the author kicks it off detailing the dangers of burnout, loss of energy and how to maintain a healthy, balanced lifestyle without sacrificing your craft. Part two teaches more on the "business" of publishing, marketing and how to fight procrastination (raising my hand and I'm not ashamed). Last but in no way least, part three takes the reader through the craft of good storytelling and each layer of the creative process that can help an author achieve that.
I've been working on a few manuscripts for YEARS and there were so many nuggets of wisdom that either hit me right between the eyes or caused me to highlight and bookmark almost every other page. I'm genuinely excited to wake up tomorrow and begin to implement many of these suggestions!
This book will definitely be a permanent fixture on my bookshelf and serve as a valuable resource I can come back to when I need help finding my way!

Write 10k in a Day was a fantastic writing craft book. It’s split into three sections regarding health, authorpreneurship (the business aspect), and writing craft. The health section does an excellent job of shaking you by the shoulders and shout, “TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF.” A writing career isn’t sustainable if you forget to take care of the writer’s physical and mental health. Included with the wake up call are practical suggestions to take care of yourself. The craft section was also full of practical advice and incredible ways that she described different aspects of writing. I came away with several new takeaways that I hadn’t heard before, or I hadn’t heard it described like that yet. Overall, the book is encouraging, builds you up, and has a lot of material I can’t wait to dig into again when I need it. Do know, there is a light amount of cussing throughout the book—the author speaks with a very frank and casual voice. Also, her section on outlining isn’t bad and may work very well for you, but for future reference on outlines, I will be returning to Save the Cat.
This is more than a book. It's a one stop source for productive writing and a toolkit full of resources and tools for the care and feeding of writers. It takes the place of at least ten different books on various aspects of craft and advice, putting it all in one place for you. My main takeaway is the time that you spend NOT writing, is just as important as the time you spend writing in terms of quality, productivity, and self care. Thank you, Lydia, for providing a go to reference that benefits both seasoned and new authors.

This overly-bloated book was . . . semi-helpful? I guess? It seems to be geared toward full-time authors only, since that's the perspective Lydia Michaels writes from, so I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who is trying to juggle work/school/family AND write. It hits the same points over and over, with lots of unnecessary anecdotes and cringy marketing messages. Honestly, for an audience that is pressed for time, you'd think the book would be smaller and easier to complete.

I really wanted to like this book, but in the end it just wasn't for me.
Some things I did appreciate about it were Lydia's vulnerability with her journey, certain sections that contained clear advice and practical how-tos, and the comprehensive approach to having a healthful writing life.
However, I frequently found myself skimming large sections because they were redundant, overly worded, and unnecessarily negative.
I am curious about the workbook, as it seems like it might be a better fit for what I wanted out of this experience- and there were several exercises in the book that were hard to do when I wasn't expecting them. If I give the workbook a try, I'll update this review!
Took me 11 months to finish. This is an extremely long book. Is it useful? Yes, to a large degree. Is its usefulness tempered by its sheer length? Also yes. I kind of wonder if splitting this up into several separate books would have been better, but I also understand the rationale for not doing so.
If you have the time to read 700+ pages of nonfiction (very different from 700+ pages of fiction), go for it. If you don't, you're not missing out on much by choosing shorter books from different authors.
