2024 reads, #10. I recently downloaded 30 free Kindle Unlimited-style cozy mystery novels through one of those promotional marketing websites, because I have a growing amount of freelance clients who write in this same genre and I want to keep on top of the latest trends. But this first one I decided to start with doesn't bode well right from the very beginning, when authors Addison Moore and Bellamy Bloom make a super-beginner's mistake I'm having to constantly warn my clients about, and decide to introduce 13 different characters in just the first chapter alone, guaranteeing that readers start the book hopelessly confused and perhaps never getting caught up even by the end. (Even worse, eight of the characters' names are [and I swear I'm not making this up] Bizzy, Bobbie, Macy, Lacey, Jordy, Georgie, Juni and Emmie. Good luck keeping that straight!)
This wouldn't normally bother me as much as it did here, except for the fact that Moore and Bloom have both made either the New York Times or USA Today bestseller lists in the past, and I have to confess that it really disturbs me that two of the biggest selling authors in the cozy mystery genre are writing books this unreadably poor, a trend that just gets worse and worse the farther you get into the book. I mean, I get it, cozy mystery novels are supposed to be cozy; but the moment the psychic main character started psychically communicating with all the other characters' adorable pets, and having all the adorable pets respond with the most schmaltzy one-liners this side of a "Look Who's Talking" movie, that's when I knew that the mere act of trying to finish this short, breezy book was going to be a herculean contest for me, one I eventually finished but that I hated every single minute along the way.
This is a very bad sign for this genre in general, that the biggest-selling and most celebrated authors in the genre are pumping out horrible schlock that will instantly make 90 percent of humanity sick to their stomach from its sheer sugary treacle; but that's great news for fellow cozy mystery authors, in that this definitively proves how low the bar is set in this genre, and that merely putting in the tiniest amount of effort to not wallow in the lowest common denominator even possible will result in big, big rewards. Keep it all in mind, whether you're a writer trying to break into this genre or a reader trying to find something good to pick up soon.
Bizzy Baker Wilder, now the owner of the Country Cottage Inn, has a large group of excited women in the ballroom. They are there to learn about how to develop a lasting "Perfect Pairing" relationship from two top influencers, Lacey Lovelace and Bobbie Buckingham. Macy, Bizzy's sister, got Bizzy to let the women hold the event for free. Needless to say, Bizzy is not happy about it as Macy has also promised them they can use the ballroom on Valentine's Day. During the presentation, Bobbie finds out that her husband, Chip, is cheating on her. Shortly after, there's a murder on the snow covered grounds. Bizzy starts to do her amateur sleuthing, using her ability to hear what people think, to see if she can figure out who the murderer was. Complicating matters is that both her father and brother announce that they are getting married (to women Bizzy is not necessarily fond of...) on Valentine's Day. They also tell Bizzy that they're planning on getting married at the Inn. This is not an easy case and things are not as they seem. Can Bizzy figure things out and keep herself out of danger on the way to the solution? If you like cozy mysteries with just a hint of the paranormal, you'll love this series by authors Addison Moore and Bellamy Bloom.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It is almost Valentine’s Day and a couple of lady podcasters are holding an event. There is some excitement at the event and before you know it someone dies and someone is injured. Bizzy is back on the job! Valentine’s Day comes around and we have a double wedding to attend. Hopefully the murder is solved by then. We have two new animals to hear from in this book and I love them to pieces! I wish we could keep all of them around forever. I love this book!

Wow I really wanted to like this book but Georgie, June and Macie just ruined it. I just don’t like them and they’re written in a way that’s supposed to be funny but really come across as being super “emotionally abusive” to the main character, Bizzy. They ridicule her, walk all over her, spread rumors about her sex life with her husband, and that’s just a sample. I really don’t like the way the author just has Bizzy grinning and bearing this abusive type behavior 😐😐😐
Addison and Bellamy have done it again!! Sealed with a Hiss was FANTASTIC!! Every trip to Cider Cove has me falling more and more in love! Bizzy is back, and so is the murder. So many suspects and so many motives! Valentine's, Murder, and Weddings.... Oh my!! And we can't forget about all the animals!! This was the perfect book vacation!!
Sealed With A Hiss is the twelfth book in the Country Cottage series. Country Cottage Mystery series, it is part of a series, but could be read as a stand alone and you would be just fine. This series is about Bizzy, a fun quirky Inn manager that loves her quaint little home town Cider Cove. When is not your normal run of the mill manager when Bizzy was younger and almost drown she gained the ability to read minds. This has been a blessing and a curse. It is almost Valentines and Bizzy was talked in to donating the ball room to a pair of bloggers to use it for a relationship funeral event. By having a coffin as the central point in the room to for all to write down memories from failed and bad relationships to toss them in and burry them once and for all. The night was going as planned until someone decided to put photos of an affair in a place of a gift for one of the blogger. Where she storms out of the room. When Bizzy goes to find her she finds not only her but the the man she was in a relationship with both shot on the ground. He has passed on but she is hang on by a thread. Will she make it? Will they solve if it was double murder or murder suicide attempt? Will Bizzy solve the crime before the local sheriffs department again or will this be one time she can’t ?
I like Bizzy, but...this book really emphasized the fact she is so busy doing Jasper's job that her family and friend's take advantage of her at the same time as they make fun of her. And does she really not get that it makes him look incompetent too? Now, we know her mind reading is what gives her a leg up, but she is good at figuring things out too. However, even when she promises to not confront suspects alone, she does it every danged time. How smart is that? Maybe put your foot down with your family and friends so the Inn makes money rather than loses it with free bacon and free ballroom rentals...not to mention rooms for clandestine meetings and having to wear inappropriate clothing for weddings....and yet she gets upset with her husband when he asks her to stay out of his investigations? It is a wonder they are still married. She knows less about him than his ex and doesn't seem to care about his feelings at all...or less than everyone else around her.
Luckily, these are entertaining too...the pets are adorable but put a muzzle on George please.
Bizzy's sister has volunteered the use of the inn for a "Perfect Relationship" seminar as well as a Valentine's Day dance. Unfortunately, her father and Jasper's mother as well as her brother and Mayor Wood plan to get married at the same time, so will share the festivities.
Two characters I do not like in this series are Georgie, the octogenarian hippie, and her leathered and tattoed daughter, Juni. For some reason, these two tough women are able to attract virtually any man of any age. Georgie (and now her daughter) is living rent free at the inn and helps herself to anything she wants. Is this book she tells everyone that Bizzy is frigid and that she and Jasper, newlyweds, have no sex life. Not funny and I don't know why Bizzy is so fond of her.
Bizzy is forced to wear one of Georgie's quilt dresses for her bridesmaid's role in the double wedding. Why can't Bizzy learn to say no? Everyone walks all over her.
Bizzy Baker...Wilder is now the owner of the Country Cottage Inn. This month she has a group of women there to learn about Perfect Pairing relationship from Lacey Lovelace and Bobbie Buckingham. During the presentation, Bobbie finds out that her husband, Chip, is cheating on her. Shortly after, Chip is murdered and Bobbie is fighting for her life. Bizzy doesn't believe it was an attempted murder suicide. She uses her ability to hear people's thoughts and her awesome detective skills to try to find the real killer. On top of that Bizzy has 2 weddings on Valentine's Day at the Inn. Her brother and her father! Can Bizzy solve another one and stay out of danger? Will the weddings end in disasters??
Finding ourselves back in Cider Cove where it’s Valentine’s Day, Cupid’s arrow is waiting to strike up romance and a murder is upon their steps. Bizzy Baker Wilder finds herself surrounded my romance, and a possible murderer. When an event turns sour with a homicide, Bizzy goes on a mission to bring justice to its knees. With the help of her eclectic band of friends and family, her loving homicide detective husband, and a furry menagerie she plans to do just that. I had fun trying to guess The Who done it this time around, and found myself unable to put it down. Addison and Bellamy prove to be a dynamic duo, and I can’t wait to see what they imagine up next!
Back to Cider Cove we go to celebrate the month of love! Bizzy has her hands full hosting a podcasting duo and their fans, planning weddings, and running an inn as the new owner. The romantic feelings aren't shared by all though as a murder occurs on the property. With not one, but two furry guests helping Bizzy find a murderer, it will take all hands on deck to solve this crime before Valentine's day arrives. Will Bizzy be able to catch a killer in time? Read this new edition of the Country Cottage Mysteries with Jasper, Fish, Sherlock Bones, and all the usual crazy friends and family, to find out. Enjoy!
I had a really good time reading this. It was a quick read. It was very fast paced. I was immediately sucked into the story and the characters. I loved that Bizzy can read minds both human and animal alike. It was so freaking funny to hear the thoughts of people especially the animals, who were so stinking cute and adorable. The mystery was good and had a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. It was just really engaging and intriguing. The fact that it setup all around these romance podcaster during the Valentine season was just a cherry on top. It was wonderful. I definitely want to go back and start of the series and continue on as well as go into the spinoff.

Bizzy Baker has just become the owner of the Country Cottage Inn that she has been running for years. Its almost Valentines Day and Bizzy is busy hosting several love inspired events for the month of love but not everyone is feeling so loving and it results in a murder. Now its up to Bizzy and her detective husband (along with a few furry friends and crazy family members) to bring the killer to justice.
I just can't... express how much I love, not like but LOVE, this series. The characters, the story, the settings, they all make it a worthy read. One filled with excitement and mystery, and sometimes a bit of romance. I have never regretted a read from this writing duo and this book is no different. Well done to the authors! I'm looking forward to whatever comes next.
Bizzy is back and this time it's during Valentine's Day. Mix in a group of podcasters and listeners and a murder and she's back on the case to solve a new mystery. Mix in some great animal side kicks and it's another great adventure. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Country Cottage sounds like a nice place to visit with or without the murders. Bizzy and company are people I wish I knew in real life. In this watch who you conspire murder with had me guessing to the very end who the real who dun it was. This series is a fun, easy read series. Get a "cuppa" and enjoy. Thank you once again for brightening my day.
It going to be a happy Valentine's day in the cove. Bizzy is going to catch a murder and she doesn't know what she wants. This is the thirteenth book in this series. I own a copy of this book. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
I lived the storyline and the characters were wonderful! This series is definitely one of my favorites. The animal characters are so entertaining! Little Fish, the cat, is so funny sometimes that I catch myself laughing out loud. I do enjoy Sherlock Bones and his shenanigans, also! This is a series I'll never get tired of!
Another great book by Addison. I just love each and every book by Addison. They get better and better as I go along. This one was no different. Can not wait till the next book in the series to see what happens next.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Who killed Chip Buckingham and why??? Bizzy Baker Wilder and Fish will figure things out though, won’t they??? AND you won ‘t believe who done it!!! I enjoyed this story and recommend the book.
Great story, the storyline is filled with action and intrigue, the characters are endearing and humorous. I can't wait to read more from this author. I received this book as a Free copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
This Author has a way with words that have you hanging on for the event. There is a spice between the couples that you feel, but she does not go into the dirty details! Well written keeps me coming back for more!!
Basic paranormal mystery. There are a lot of characters in this book. Things can get confusing because of this. I really liked the animals in this read. Them being able to talk to the main character & among themselves was some of the highlights in this read.
I love these books and all the other series...they are hard to put down and when you think you know ego might be the suspect you get a whole surprise. Please keep them coming...I'm A forever fan.
Love this series, but I have to agree with another reviewer that the way some of Bizzie's friends treat her is awful. This story should have been called Two Weddings and a Murder. Fun story and fun characters. Recommend reading.
Absolutely charming series, always a delightful and hilarious read! Bizzy and Jasper are the perfect couple, along with their companions and ditzy friends and frenamies.
