No Love for the Wicked

Rate this book
A desire for Light. A mark for Dark. A fate that would change the world.

Sierra Grey is a Daughter of the Dark, she’s a wicked witch. As good as she is at being bad, it never felt right to her. There was always the longing for something more, something she shouldn’t give two cents about, LOVE.

Unfortunately for Sierra, love was not something that could penetrate the icy exterior of the heart of a Daughter of the Dark.
Just as she’d accepted that it was her destiny to be alone, everything changed.

Her unexpected attraction to Horacio, a Light witch, goes much deeper than a physical attraction. Her budding feelings for him are not only against the law, but it puts a target on her head.

Will Sierra ignore her misplaced emotions and return to the Dark or will she risk it all for the chance of something more?

Action, love, and betrayal!

This was an intense read after you get past the first few chapters. It started out slow but quickly built momentum. The world-building is well done and you easily start to see the discrepancies and stodginess in the social and physical outlook of Dynundria.

Sierra is a daughter of darkness and Horacio is of the light. A relationship between these two is a big taboo and has more ramifications than anyone realizes. I'm not going to say more because of 'SPOILERS'. But I will say the chemistry between the two will not be denied.

Once things got interesting I couldn't stop reading and I'm very glad I didn't. I loved the ending. With the warning of the slow start I recommend you don't miss this book.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

In a parallel world with Earth, Sierra is a Daughter of the Dark. She is not destined for love or any type of an HEA. However, she has always felt different and that she was meant for the Light. She tries to keep her friendships with the Lights but as life goes on it gets more difficult every day. But one day, she runs into a Light hottie named Horacio and can not stop thinking about him. All of her senses are on high alert. She is sent on a mission with Horacio and here is where the trouble starts. Both of them can’t deny their attraction and naturally, sparks fly! Here is where things really get messy. While both of them have always abided by the rules and did what they were supposed to do, something more sinister was going on and they were at the very root of it. When the twists start coming, they do not stop. Secrets are uncovered and then they really have to decide what is right and what is wrong...then decide if they go down that path. Now, this is a novella and is a quick read but the author did a great job putting a lot of action, sexy time, and snark into such a fast read. The ending had me completely shocked. I had no idea that it was going this way and that it would end right there. There were some areas where I wish there was more to the story or areas that could have been elaborated on, but then it wouldn’t be a novella. All in all, it was a great read that gives you a little bit of everything in a small action packed package.

No Love for the Wicked is a fantasy filled with love and sacrifice. In the novella Jessica Cage has created an interesting world. Dynundria is a world of witches divided into three classes – light, dark, and gray. Light and dark can visit each other but their areas are separated by a magical wall. They are not permitted to be in romantic relationships. Although Sierra is the daughter of a dark witch, she has always felt she was light. She longs for love and a relationship, something dark witches do not get. When she meets Horatio, she feels a connection to him that makes this even harder. Sierra is a strong character and Horatio is a good match for her. I really enjoyed the book right up until the end. The ending took me by surprise, and not in a good way. Despite this, the epilogue was a nice uplifting addition.

The story was good. I enjoyed how everything played out and hearing about Sierra and Horacio’s love and prophecy. However I don’t understand some of the inconsistencies throughout the plot. There’s a few holes that didn’t line up.

Two stars for the poor editing. There are missing words, one page is just completely duplicated and it’s the same exact thing in here twice. Wrong tenses that don’t make any sense. Poor spelling. Usually I’m not a stickler for that if it’s once or twice but it was consistent throughout the entire book.

I discovered this author on tik tok and wanting to support her I decided to read this book. I gave it three stars for all the time, heart, and effort went into this book. I feel like The author had the best of intentions and that her work can only get better. There were quite a lot of editorial mistakes and several things/concepts that didn’t make sense but I felt the heart. I felt the intention. I felt the black love. And for this story, this author, this moment. That is enough.

Speculative fiction is sometimes hard for me to stay interested in, but this was really good. That ending... man. I loved it. It was a quick little story, and I appreciated the wild ride even though there wasn't much to it. Very character driven, and while there wasn't a complete world build, she didn't forget to give you something to grasp onto. There was a bit of an anchor. I tried this short one as kind of a test. I think I'd be okay reading something else by her now.

Sierra spent her youth certain that she would be a Light witch. All the friends she makes in the Mastery are Light witches but on the day their pronouncements are made Sierra is a Dark witch! Sierra tries to keep up with her friends but their differences become more pronounced. Things start to change and suddenly her crew is merged with a crew from the Light side. Things start to go sideways from there! Interesting twists and turns. An enjoyable read.

i liked this, it was just super fast paced being a novella and all. i wish it had been expanded just a bit more to fully immerse in the world and actually get a feel for the romance. the word love was thrown around, but i never got that - always felt like lust to me. maybe 200 instead of 100 pages would've been better.

and despite a few typos and things, i liked this enough to give her other book about accidentally falling in love with a vampire a try!

Pretty good

Idk, I mean, there wasn't a lot of world building. Just characters. It all happened so fast. I'm glad this wasn't made into a bunch of sequels, but I think it could've been longer if there was more focus on the why and division and betrayal of friends and... Just so many convenient things. Great idea for a story though! Loved the ending.

Honestly, I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book but I am so glad I kept reading. I was so good. Sierra, a bad witch, felt she should have been a good witch and fall in love. Then she meets Horatia, a light witch, and nothing is ever the same. Wow, what a surprise ending and no, I can't tell what happened!

I'm struggling with writing this review because I genuinely enjoyed 99% of this book, but was ultimately left a little unsatisfied at the end of it all. I genuinely enjoyed the characters and the overall plot so I still rated it well. The world building was great and ultimately I wanted more of it all. If you like your romance a little darker and less fluffy then you would enjoy this book.

I will never NOT be fascinated with the world building Jessica creates. The rules in place are never faltering, the magic in the world is pretty set but always has gray areas that are explained insanely well, and the story lines have been fantastic thus far!

The spice in this book is added very smoothly and the storyline flow has been so phenomenal to read! Highly recommend

Even though its a short book the amount of details in the story is amazing. He makes it feel like the book is longer then what it is. If you like witchy spicy romance books I would definitely check this one out.

Lord, this book! Where to start, the characters are top tier. Sierra is so brave. I don't wanna spoil it, but the fantasy and forbidden love is the best. It's a must. Best book. The world in this book is different but good different. Jessica Cage does not disappoint.

Prefect if you want a quick read with magic!

Let me tell you! I was upset about how quick this book went. I definitely want more and wished this story was spread out into a full novel. I could definitely see myself getting lost in the world between light and dark witches. Since it's a novella I won't dive deep into the book. If you are looking for a fantasy with opposites attract, fated mates, witches and forbidden love then this is your book!
