Just okay. Quick read with cliffhanger
I liked the blurb for this book but totally overlooked the 'trilogy' in the title. At about 75-80% of the way through I realized things weren't like the blurb and things weren't really wrapping up so I went back to the blurb and ah yes, there's that word, plain as day.

It's a rich girl/poor boy, world's clash story. A summer fling that turned into more. The only problem was that I couldn't find any empathy for Aurora and very little for Henry (& by the end I couldn't find any for him at all). I couldn't connect with them at all.
When it got into the whole contract marriage part it turned ridiculous to me. I actually think I might like the jerky guy she's supposed to marry. But none of that will happen until part two and I just don't care enough about any of them to read on.

Okay well.....I liked the story. Aurora is the spoiled daughter of billionaire owners of a media conglomerate. Henry is a regular guy working as a teacher and an aspiring writer. They meet when Henry is working on Aurora's parents yacht for the summer. Their chemistry is instant. Aurora is drawn to Henry because he is real and down to earth plus he doesn't try to impress her like all the rich douche bags that try to date her.

Her parents dislike Henry and tell Aurora not to date him or they will cut her off. I don't want to give away any spoilers but there are a lot of adjustments and struggles for them to work through. They love each other but in the end that might not be enough to bridge the divide in their circumstances.

I had a hard time liking Aurora. She really had a weird flat affect most of the book. Henry came across as warm and genuinely trying to make Aurora happy, but there wasn't a whole lot of meat to the relationship. Also there were big time gap jumps in the story which I think lead to me not really getting invested in their relationship. This is what lead to my rating. They were meh.

We were left on a big cliff-hanger and Aurora has a big choice to make. I'm definitely gonna read the next one to see how everything plays out and what happens with Aurora and Henry if they can get out from under all the people conniving to keep them apart.

*I voluntarily read and reviewed and ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. *

Maria Antonietta - per RFS
.

Buona lettura amiche fenici.

3.75 stars—DANGEROUS ENGAGEMENT is the first instalment in Charlotte Byrd’s contemporary adult WEDLOCKED erotic, romance trilogy focusing on twenty-five year old heiress Aurora Tate, and high school teacher Henry Asher.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Henry and Aurora) DANGEROUS ENGAGEMENT follows the building romance and relationship between twenty-five year old Tate Media heiress Aurora Tate, and high school teacher Henry Asher. Aurora Tate was raised in a bubble of wealth, and as such our heroine is completely oblivious of the world around her but a summer fling with the Henry Asher, the ‘hired help’ , gave Aurora a first hand look at how the other half lived. Falling in love had never been so easy until Henry loses his job, and Aurora is incapable of making ends meet. But not all is well behind the scenes at the Tate Media empire when Henry is offered a job in their crime reporting division, a job that will pull Henry away from the woman he loves. What ensues is the building but struggling relationship between Henry and Aurora, and the fall-out as betrayal and behind closed door negotiations force Henry and Aurora in opposite directions.

DANGEROUS ENGAGEMENT sets the background and premise for the author’s WEDLOCKED series, a series that focuses on power and control; manipulation and betrayal; secrets, lies and fractured family dynamics. The premise is engaging and intriguing; the characters are energetic and colorful; the romance is passionate and intense but will struggle in the face of preconceived notions, secrets and deception.

The blurb I read of this book was promising, but the entire thing fell short. It was poorly written, with disjointed and choppy sentence structure. Inner dialogues had quotation marks so you have to guess what is said aloud or thought. The characters were 2-dimensional and, frankly, unlikeable. Aurora is a 25 year old socialite getting her PhD in popular literature, but has the mindset and actions of a spoiled, selfish, teenager. All she wants is to get her way with no compromising on her part. I just couldn’t like her or feel bad for her at all. Henry Asher was okay. He was at least honorable.
There was no great buildup or tension or mystery set up for the rest of the series. The book is called dangerous engagement, yet there was no danger at all except for one off handed comment that her apartment might be bugged and there was no engagement!
Total disappointment. Won’t be reading the rest of the series or anything else by this author.

The summary doesn’t really do this story justice since it makes you think that we’re going to go in one direction and we go in another. Yes, Aurora and Henry are our leading characters, but they have a very complicated way that they came together and how their relationship progressed.

Aurora is the heiress to the Tate Media empire – a company that was started by her parents, and hopefully would go to her, yet she’s got a different hankering in life, although she doesn’t know what that is. She’s been raised in a life of privilege but that’s not who she is – she struggles to relate to what her friends in that world enjoy and that’s something that Henry alleviates for her.

Enter Henry – a guy who’s working on her father’s boat, but someone that changes her world in an unexpected way. After one meeting at the pool, that continues on to a date and overnight stay, well, Aurorat’s entire path of life has changed. While she’ still following the path of her PhD she’s got a romance that consumes her.

Sadly, that’s not a romance that her family will agree to given the world that they live in. Henry meets her parents, and makes a decent impression, but it’s not an impression that gives them fait that he’s the man for her. He doesn’t have a long term goal, and he’s not able to provide for the kind of life that Aurora is accustomed to, but she’s not willing to listen to reason.

So this first installment takes us on the journey of watching them try to become what they think they could be, yet find all of the obstacles in life taking bits of their enjoyment and romance away. Aurora’s mother gives her an ultimatum which she’s not willing to agree to and stays with Henry. They move to Henry’s apartment which isn’t ideal, and then Henry loses his job. Which means they lose their apartment since it’s subsidized by his job. So their life is in turmoil.

Enter Auroria’s parents, and we see that things are always able to get more complex. There are workings under the radar here – and while they seem to offer a solution to their worries, what happens in the unexpected. They offer Henry a way to get a job now that he’s unemployed, and at the same time, they give Aurora back her apartment. what happens though is the following.

he gets the job, but they grow apart
she gets her PhD but wonders why no one cares
She’s set up with a man that is now employed by Tate Media, and while he’s a predator on her, she’s forced to endure
so we’re left at the end of this story with a romance turned sour, a family in ruins, and the unknown of an arrangement without consent.

Great start to a new series. Aurora and Henry fall for each other, but they are from different worlds. What will happen when Aurora is forced to marry for her family. Fast-paced read with plenty of drama and steam. Great chemistry and a story with lots of twists and turns. Looking forward to finding out what happens next.

Aurora is the daughter of billionaire parents who owns Tate Media. She is doing her PhD and is on summer vacation when she meets Henry. Henry is a school teacher and aspiring writer who was working on Aurora's dad's yacht. They have an instant connection as Henry is straight forward which attracts Aurora.

Aurora's parents dislike Henry because of his humble status. They seem to be distant from their daughter but want her to marry rich. They discourage her from having a relationship with Henry which she ignores anyway.

They end up living together for a while but start to drift apart when Henry has to move away due to his job. This is when Aurora discovers her parents' secret which forces her to reconsider her decisions.

The book ends with somewhat of a cliffhanger. The title of the book is no way justified. Spoiler alert: she isn't engaged until the second book. Charlotte Byrd could have made some adjustments here.

I like almost all the characters except for Aurora. It's cold and flat and there seems to be no emotion. The start of the book was quite monotonous. Felt like Aurora was drinking about her life. Also it did not make any sense when Henry approaches her and the pick up line is about a book! It was a totally random book that he brings up and, no surprise, that Aurora seems to have read it.

The first book in the Wedlocked trilogy basically sets the stage. I would definitely suggest to go through this as it would work as a context for the next two books which would definitely pique interest.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Full of SUSPENSE and true love’s joy, this romantic is a MUST-READ!
Once again, author Charlotte Byrd has astounded her readers with the most delicious story. So delicious in fact, that even people who hate cliffies (namely me), cannot get enough! Ms. Byrd’s latest release is DANGEROUS ENGAGEMENT, the first book in her WEDLOCKED series. DANGEROUS ENGAGEMENT presents a fairytale story about the underpaid teacher who meets the rich girl and of course the parents don’t like him. However, Henry Asher is a man in love, and willing to do what he needs to prove to Aurora Tate and her parents that he is made of the type of metal that will support Aurora and that his love for Aurora will be more than enough to keep her happy. However, there is more going on behind the scenes. Something so nefarious that when Aurora gets a whiff of the nasty deceit, she takes the situation in hand and puts a stop to it – nor at least she thinks it is stopped. Aurora is in love with Henry, and she lets her parents and others know they will have to just get on board. Will she have the last say? Will Henry’s love and willingness to work hard be enough? Of course, you’ll have to read DANGEROUS ENGAGEMENT to find out. However, the BEST news, is there is MORE of Charlotte Byrd’s wonderful novel! I ran to volunteer to read DANGEROUS ENGAGEMENT this is my HONEST and voluntary 5-STAR review. This WEDLOCKED series promises to be the best EVER, so get your copy today! Happy pages! 😉

Dangerous Engagement is the first book in the Wedlocked Trilogy which focuses on Aurora Tate and Henry Asher. Aurora is a girl who has everything she could ever ask for, having very wealthy and successful parents. She lives life feeling as her parents don’t trust her to run the company and bored of playing the perfect daughter and friend. Henry is the complete opposite of Aurora. He comes from a very humble background, with a single mother, and works hard to get by and help his mom with bills. Although Henry’s aspiration is to become a writer, he works as a teacher and does other work in the summer, where he meets Aurora.
When they first meet, Aurora thinks she’s got Henry figured out but he surprises her when he shows her that he is not like the other men she’s met. She is curious of this man who she finds is clever and wants to know more about. Aurora and Henry spend their summer together and fall in love but not everything is roses and rainbows. They struggle with the disappointment of Aurora’s parents, financial issues, and disagreements. Aurora and Henry are from completely different worlds and will have their relationship challenged as problems arise with Aurora’s family, the company, and news of the man she is to marry.

A loving couple find life doesn't give them a forever after. A must read!

An intriguing book. It's hard to put the book down. Once you start reading, it's a page turner.
Great characters throughout the storyline. At first you have Henry wanting to be a writer but the only job he was offered in NYC was a teaching job. During the summer time he works at a yacht club where he meets Aurora. She is on her father's yacht with some friends. Her parents happen to be billionaires. So they happen to have their hands in Aurora 's life by paying for everything she's ever needed or wanted. Later on in the story she starts to realize that nothing is for free. Meanwhile, she is in school earning a PhD.
No relationship until she meets Henry on the yacht. After he strikes up a conversation with her, she finds him intriguing.
This book brings so many twists and turns that it captivates you. Needless to say Henry and Aurora start out strong in their new relationship
but real life starts showing it's true colors.
I loved this book and look forward to the second book, Lethal Wedding. A must-must read.

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Aurora a rich woman who is the daughter of the Tower Media Company. Her parents are millionaires so Aurora is studying for her PhD, however most of the time is bored about her life is becoming. One day when she is on the yacht she see a man that caught her eye, he is part of the crew on the yacht. Along comes Henry Asher who shows Aurora a different side of life that she is not accustom to. Soon Aurora and Henry are so in love, however her parents do that like Henry because he is not in the same social status as Aurora. In spite of it all there love is undying. Aurora parents were never honest with her in regard to the company until a man Franklin Price wanted the company with conditions. The condition included Aurora to be his wife. Price was not a good person who set up the breakup between Henry and Aurora. I enjoyed reading this book and I am glad I do not have to wait long for the next book to come out to continue their story. I voluntarily reviewed this ARC for my honest review.

This is the first book in the Wedlocked Trilogy and once again Ms. Byrd has started it off with a bang. Aurora is a woman who has what others would envy, very wealthy parents and lacks for nothing. She is in her last year of studying for her PhD when she meets Henry, a hand working on her father’s yacht. Unlike other men that Aurora has met, there is a connection with Henry that has her wanting more. However, Henry is a teacher/aspiring writer and he comes from a completely different world. The more time they spend together, the more their attraction grows but there are issues going on behind the scenes that neither one can prepare for. Is their relationship strong enough to weather the oncoming storm or will it burn to ashes? This is another gripping storyline than can be read in one sitting and the fact is once this book is started, there is no where else you want to go. It does end in a cliffhanger but as with this author’s previous books, it will be worth it. I volunteered to read an advance copy of this book.

Rich folks don’t mingle with “the help“, but Aurora is in love with Henry.

Henry is a schoolteacher and works for the yacht club in the summer. His main goal is to become a writer. Aurora‘s parents think he is beneath her and not worthy of her love. And they do everything they can to break them up. When they hire Franklin to set up the podcast and crime division of Tate media, he hires Henry and keeps him out of town for months on end. This is really taking a toll on their relationship. When Aurora’s mother says Franklin wants to buy Tate media but she is included in the deal as in you will become his wife, she says absolutely not, but Henry and Aurora break up anyway. Long distance relationships are hard. This totally destroyed me because Henry and Aurora are so wonderful for each other. So there’s another book that continues their story. I can’t wait to read it. I just know her parents have something sneaky going on trying to force Aurora to do their bidding. A great book. I think there’s a lot more to the story than what her parents are telling her. Great cliffhanger.

Dangerous Engagement by Charlotte Byrd (Weddedlocked Trilogy Book 1)
Aurora wears a false face so no one knows how she really feels. She has everything given to her by her parents, they own Tates media. The friends she has are not real friends. On her yacht, she sees Henry, twenty-seven, hazel eyes, casual smile, and cheap clothes. Henry and Autota are drawn to each other from the beginning and the chemistry is so hot, but things are not always easy. Then Franklin walks in and the problems start. This is one of the most romantic books I have read. The characters just melt smoothly together. This is the first book in this trilogy and it ends on a low note that makes you want to know what is going to happen next. I can not wait until book two comes out. I received an advanced reader copy from bookfunnel and have voluntarily chosen to leave a review. This is my honest opinion.

There is Aurora who has what every woman envies. She comes from money & has smarts as she is about to finish her PhD. Only something is missing. When she meets Henry on her Dad's yacht, she is attracted to him because he is different than the other guys she normally meet. Henry is hard working. An aspiring writer and teacher who is working on her Dad's yacht during the summer to make some additional cash. He comes from a different world than she is used to. The more time they spend together, the more their attraction grows but there are things going on that may tear them apart. Is their relationship strong enough to overcome what is against them? Of course it ends in a cliffhanger! Looking forward to seeing what happens from here. Good characters and writing with a story line that keeps you reading.

To tell you this book is about a rich girl falling in love with a poor boy is not doing the book justice. It is the story that makes this book worth reading. The rich girl wasn't a bombshell and the poor boy was educated and smart. The story kept me engaged with what trials and tribulations a couple with totally different backgrounds have to go through to be together. The story flowed so well and was getting so good that at one point I almost flipped to the back of the book to see how it was going to end. It was just that good. And to top it off....... those sex scenes are so well written my cheeks were getting flushed reading them. If I had to say something bad about this story I would say that damn cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the next book. But I must say it will be totally worth it.

I recommend this book to all the readers who enjoy there good romance story and some hot and sexy love scenes.

Happy Reading!!!!!!!

Aurora has never showed anybody who she really is, they think that she is just some rich girl, then she meets Henry Asher who is working on her father's boat. When Aurora asks Henry if he would like to go out with her and her friends he says yes and this starts something that neither of them expected. Things start to get very complicated when Auroras mother and father interfere in Aurora and Henry's relationship. Wow Charlotte what a start to this series, I can't wait to read the next book to see what happens next. Charlotte is an incredible author and amazing writer and her books are so addictive and always keep you on the edge of your seat. You really need to read this book and others by Charlotte and you will definitely not be disappointed.

Ms. Byrd is one of the few authors that I will read a book that ends on a cliffhanger and is this start to a trilogy is exactly why. Captivating, intriguing with characters that you become invested in from the start.
Aurora looks like a privileged socialite and daughter of a billionaire. She seems to have it all and wants for nothing in her golden life.
She meets Henry who is working for her father on his yacht. He was raised by his mother and has dreams to become a writer. He is a high school teacher and is happy with his life.
Aurora and Henry fall in love. Her family is not happy to say the least. There are plans in the works for her to be married to a man she hates when all she wants is to be with Henry.
Twists and turns. Deception and despair. Such a great start and can’t wait for more. I am volunteering to leave a review for this book.

Charlotte Byrd has scored another hit with Dangerous Engagement which is the first book in her Wedlocked Trilogy. It features Aurora, the daughter and heiress of a billion dollar media empire mogul, and Henry, son of a single mother who is a high school teacher striving to be a writer. Henry and Aurora meet aboard her father’s yacht and fall in love with each other even though her parents do not approve of their relationship. But, trouble is on the horizon for Aurora’s parents which only Aurora can resolve. I highly recommend this fantastic book with its amazing characters and unique plot which has deception, unexpected twists, and sizzling love. Aurora and Henry’s story continues in the next book of the trilogy entitled Lethal Wedding.

Dangerous Engagement
By Charlotte Byrd
Main Characters: Henry and Aurora
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
4 out of 5 stars
I was happy to see I am finally getting to read the first book of a series instead of one in the middle or end. lol This is a contemporary romance and it does end in a cliffhanger as it is the first of 3 books in the Wed locked Trilogy. Aurora comes from a wealthy family and Henry comes from a single mother living in a small 2 bedroom home. But they jelled somehow. However, things do not always go smoothly. This is a contemporary romance but does end in a cliffhanger. Desperately looking forward to book two.

It was okay. I really wanted to like it more and I had high expectations from the blurb about the book and the stars it's receiving. It didn't really grab my attention and I put it down on several occasions and came back to it hoping things would change. I did not connect with the characters at all. They were very one dimensional and cliche, for lack of a better word. Rich girl meets not so rich, down to earth guy. Attraction ensues and they have great sex all the time.
There just wasn't really a story until you get Mommie dearest telling Aurora she has to marry someone else and then poof the book has ended. I've already bought the second book because I just knew this would be a great book. Oh well, let's hope for better results from the next one.

Amazingly captivating, this story speaks volumes. We’re talking two worlds here where wealth, greed, manipulation, betrayal, destructive behaviour will either make you or destroy you. Characters are strong and powerful, determined and perseverant, courageous and successful, author is brilliant in portraying them. Aurora is caught in a web of deceit, betrayal, powerful manipulative behaviour that place her in an impossible position...but she’s happens to be PhD graduate and extremely smarty and intelligent which I’m sure she’ll use her assets unconditionally and positively to hit you where it hurts. If you enjoy intrigue with a twist , you’ll enjoy this book. A definite read 😉! Can’t wait to read book 2!

2.5. I think I’d have enjoyed this more if the blurb for the first book hadn’t made it seem like it was a forced marriage book. The entire book I was waiting for something more to happen, an engagement or something. She doesn’t even marry until the end of the second/beginning of the third book.

Blurb:
“To save my father's life, I have to marry a man I hate. He is arrogant and self-absorbed. He only wants me as a trophy. He only sees me as a prize.
But I can't say no. I look down at the diamond on my left hand and walk down the aisle.
That's when I see him. He's the man who showed me that love can petrify you to your core. What happens when I have to make a choice? What happens when the right thing to do is all wrong?”

Really?

Aurora has been trying to figure out what she wants in life and who she really is!

When she meets Henry things start off a little shaky but the way he makes her feel and opens her up a little they become one.

Henry knows who she is, but can’t seem to let her go and because of that he has fallen in love with Aurora.

Now they both have a challenge ahead and its going to be a challenge neither of them will forget.

I always knew her parents were up to something, they were never really there for her and always trying to control her and her life.

Odd story

I am not sure what to think about this book. First one in the series and not impressed so far. So much drama. Storyline and characters not sure about either. At first I thought Aurora was an only child...somewhere a much younger sibling shows up. Do arranged marriages even exist in 2020? Let's hope not. Again not impressed. WARNING!!! For anyone interested in Charlotte Byrd books be warned she has been changing book covers on books released previously. I have purchased books because the cover was different and when I started to read them...discovered I already had the book and Amazon will not give your money back after a certain time frame.

Congratulations Charlotte Byrd on writing an amazing start to a new trilogy. What a new twist on a c!assic story. Rich girl, Aurora and poor boy, Henry attempt a relationship in spite of their differences. The characters are well written and pull you in from the start. There is enough suspense, drama, emotions and heat to keep you turning the pages. This book does end in a cliffhanger but I personally can't to see what twist and turns happen in the next book of the trilogy. I received an ARC in return for an honest review.

Sometimes class does make a difference! Money is power! When you have power you can manipulate someone’s life for a desired outcome. Her father made some poor decisions and she will find her life is not her own. He gets an opportunity to advance his life and make money. Money always rules! Relationships go downhill and disappear. Interesting psychological twists and turns throughout. Looking forward to the next part since it’s hanging on with a cliffhanger. Good news...it’s a trilogy!
