Mellybean and the Wicked Wizard
The second book in this graphic novel series finds Melly and her feline friends returning to the magical world hidden in their backyard, only to discover that a wicked wizard has taken over and these pets may be the only ones who can stop her!
Melly's learned a new trick, and she can't wait to show the cats. But when they all head outside to play, Melly accidentally loses her ball down the magical hole in their backyard. So she decides this is the perfect excuse to visit her friends in the fantastical world on the other side. And this time around, the cats want to come too. (After all, they need to find someone to open their cans of food!)
But instead of a warm welcome, the group discovers the whole kingdom has fallen into a mysterious deep sleep. And it is all thanks to Wilma, the wizard who long ago took Narra's powers. She's back to finish what she started by stealing the magic of other mythical creatures so she can become the greatest wizard ever. Now Melly and the cats are all that stand in her way. But how will these four ordinary pets stop an extraordinary villain? Well, they may just have a few tricks up their sleeves!

Mellybean and her three cat friends decide to visit Melly's friend Narra. Which turns out to be a good thing, because Wilma the Wizard has figured out how to use Narra's tail she stole, and she's stolen the hippocorn's wings. So wicked Wilma is now controlling the air and life powers, and it is affecting Narra's kingdom in very bad ways. Narra doesn't have any energy to stop Wilma, so Melly and the cats are on a quest.
I absolutely adore Melly's attitude. I also love Narra's caring, hands-on, helpful style of leadership. What a great example of what leaders can and should be! And the cats and the hippocorn are along to provide some great laughs. Wilma is selfish, but she's not over the top or super evil. I like how Narra decided to punish her. I felt it was fitting, and I loved that it provided her with something useful to do. A fun fantasy graphic novel adventure with some characters who are a delight to spend time with. Highly recommended.
Notes on content: No language issues. No sexual content. Some characters are in danger of a fall at one point, but no one is hurt. The wizard is greedy and takes things from others with no thought for anyone but herself, but not scary. The worst thing that happens is low energy for several characters.

I love Mellybean and her friends. As someone with several cats and dogs, I can really get into their stories.
I read this book on Edelweiss. Melly gets to visit the magical kingdom where her friend Nara was chosen to be king in the last book. What Melly and her siblings think is going to be just a visit turns into yet another adventure. Evil is defeated once again so everyone can live happily and openly without fear of someone trying to steal their magic or make them out to be Eveline when they aren’t.

Very cute! I just find Melly so adorable with all her energy.
This book wasn't nearly as fun as the first, but it tries to include a message about being content with what you have/just being yourself.

Book 2 of a cute, (new to me) graphic novel series filled with action, adventure, magic, and monsters. Loved the author’s note that shared that the characters are based on the creator’s pets.
