A graphic novel debut about two aspiring adventurers who face off against startling ghosts, rampaging monsters, and bumbling wizards.
Woolfrik and Perigold are two down-on-their-luck kittens in need of some extra cash, so they've decided to become professional monster slayers. Except they don't know the first thing about it! So when a huge beast starts rampaging through town, they are put to the ultimate test. Fortunately, the duo accidentally awakens a ghost named Earl Mortimore, who is the last not-so-living member of an ancient guild of warriors, and he's going to teach them everything he knows.
But the monster is just the beginning of their worries, because someone even more troublesome is pulling its strings. So even though they've never been in a battle--or even gone on a real quest before--it's up to these kittens to save the day and prove they've got what it takes to be heroes.
Woolferik and Perigold embark on the very first Kitty Quest to save Meowminster from a rampaging green monster. What part does the mysterious Dagzobad play in the destruction? What is the best broccito variation? These questions and more will be answered when you follow the story of Wolferik and Perigold. I enjoyed the humor and quirky characters. The graphics are colorful, but I am more of a fan of the style used in the InvestiGators series by John Green.
Thank you to Razorbill and Edelweiss+ for a DRC in exchange for an honest review.
Ok, but not great. I dont know why people keep putting occult things like pentagram in kids books, but maybe take a step back there. Also, dialogue wasnt great and only had a few parts that really stood out. But, it did set up the series pretty well.
Perigold and Woolfrik are two young wannabe monster hunters in the quiet hamlet of Meowminster. When they meet the ghost cat Mortimore at the tower of Kitquaroo, he gives them the weapons they need to hunt a reported monster controlled by the evil Dagzobad. Mortimore is a gentle ghost, Dagzobad is mostly annoying, and the monster is just a dragon whom Dagzobad controls by extortion.
I like that none of the cat characters in this early grade graphic novel are really evil, and that there’s gentle humor and wordplay that make it fun to read. Early graders who crave feline-centric fiction will really enjoy this, and there’s plenty of cat humor to laugh over. The world-building of this medieval-like land of cats is easy to understand, partly in thanks to the great map of the islands of Pawdor at the beginning. A bright cheerful color palette anchored in purple and green telegraphs that this is not a tale of death and gloom, but rather a fun adventure with swords and dragons and magic. Well, with a title like Kittyquest, who would thing it was anything else?! It’s a delightful read with more adventures expected.

So when a huge beast starts rampaging through town, they are put to the ultimate test. Edelweiss+ provided me a DRC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I'm always looking for new graphic novels for my library, and I had high hopes for this one.
Unfortunately, while the illustrations were colorful and fun...the story wasn't very engaging and the humor often fell short. The world-building is a little lacking which makes some of the plot a little confusing. And yes, I realize kids books' setting don't need the complicated details that adult books do, but I feel like even my middle schoolers are going to expect more than just "weird medieval cat-world."
There's not much character backstory, either--which means you just have to immediately accept that our childlike MCs carry weird weapons, hunt monsters, and love broccoli...without any explanation.
Sometimes I read a book and think "well, I don't like it but the kids will," but I'm honestly not sure about this one.
Two would be kitty heroes, Woolfrink and Perigold are gifted with a magical ring after vanquishing a “monster.” When a rampaging monster begins terrorizing their town the two monster hunting heroes must try to stop it but they haven’t a clue how. Fortunately their magic ring transforms revealing a ghost who was part of an ancient warrior guild dedicated to protecting the innocent. With his sage advice Woolfrink and Perigold gather their weapons and confront the beast only to discover the real beast is someone else entirely. Sometimes monsters are not what they seem.
With colorful artwork and a charming story, this book is sure to entertain both the youngsters and their parents while delivering a sweet message.
Medieval kitty’s Perigold and Woolfrik set themselves up as monster hunters ready to save the kingdom of Pawdor. But the pair find themselves in the bad books of the maniacal Dagzobad, when Perigold accidentally stands on his lunch. Weird elements include an abundance of slime, slugs and broccoli. The illustrations are overly busy in a incoherent colour mishmash and the capitalised font is difficult to read. I didn’t find the story especially funny or interesting. The conclusion sets up for more in the series and I think there could be potential if some of the issues are addressed. I mean who can resist cute cats on a quest?
Woolfrik and Perigold are professional monster slayers. At least, they want to be. The only problem is that they've only been hired once by an old woman who mistook a downstairs drain problem for monster noises. But when Dazgobad the Demonhearted starts wreaking havoc on the city of Meowminster with the help of a scary-looking dragon, Woolfrik and Perigold know their services are finally required. If only they knew how to use their weapons. . .
I roll my eyes at most books that claim to be funny, but this graphic novel is a real hoot.
Lively and goofy fantasy cartoon adventures of two cats determined to be monster hunters. Short chapters provide plenty of fun. My only concern is the type face appears more than usually hand drawn and has dots at the center of the O's, making it tricky to decode for emerging readers. (And downright hard for dyslexic kids) Happily the pictures provide context and most kids will likely be drawn in enough to persevere.
Not usually a fan of graphic novels, but sometimes work requires me to read them. This one was hilarious! I, personally, not a huge fan of the artwork, but I know it will appeal to its target audience. This was super clean, without any potty humor. Also the only agenda was two cats fighting a monster and one "evil" cat, who is going to steal the bell tower clock so no one will know the time and he can sleep in...so, is that really evil?🤣
This book is fantastic. I’m a teen who checked this book out for my little sister, but I think I enjoyed it even more than she did! It genuinely made me laugh out loud at multiple points. I love the art style and fun plot.
I noticed that books 2-4 in the kitty quest series weren’t in my library’s system, so I recommended the series to the librarians. They just purchased some copies for our branch, and I’m so excited to read them!
"Lord of the Rings" with cats? Sign me up! I live for cat puns! Kitty Quest follows two pals, Woolfric and Perigold, as they set out to protect the islands of Pawdor from monsters and villains, protect the innocent, y'now - hero stuff. Bright, colourful, fun and funny - with plenty of meowvalous kitty puns (#sorrynotsorry) - with likeable characters (even the 'villain'). Highly recommend!
A fun and silly graphic novel about two cats ready to quest and defeat some monsters. They seem to get into more trouble at first than not when trying to save their town, but figure out quickly how to defeat the evil villain of the novel. Fun illustrations and filled with dynamic cat characters, I really enjoyed this one!
Kitty Quest is a graphic novel with vibrant pictures on each page! The story follows Woolfrik and Perigold, two adventurers for hire who always seem to fix one problem by starting a new one. Follow along as they challenge various ghosts, monsters and wizards in a Lord of the Rings style comic book adventure. Turns out being a hero is more complicated than it seems.
I was a little put off in reading these in chunks with my daughter. For something as labor intensive as creating a graphic novel this series didn't seem to have a lot of inventiveness and imagination but I changed my mind having properly read them now (mostly) in order. The characters and humor are solid and the world-building becomes the most satisfying aspect.
Cute, and not overly scary for my young kid who wants to read comics like his mommy. Not great literature by any means, but it was fun, and most of the humor was at just the right level to balance his enjoyment and mine. My favorite part: the general citizenry of Meowminster and their reactions to all the crazy stuff going on.
Super cute! The illustrations are bright and cheerful the story is simple but age appropriate and cute enough not to make an adult reader hate reading this with a kid! It’s meant for fairly young kids. 6? 7? A precocious 4 or 5 year old that can read well and likes kitties and adventure?
This book was a lot of silly fun! It's not deep literature by any account, but it's like a very likable cartoon in graphic novel form. The flashback section went on waaay too long, but other than that, we had a lot of fun reading this and are looking forward to #2!
Very silly, funny, slapstick comic book for readers from 5 to 50. Gorgeously brightly coloured cartoons and a dynamic drawing style catch your eye and this amusing adventure is the first in a (hopeful) series so there’s more laughs to come.
Love these cartoony cats and their hilarious capers! I literally laughed out loud a few times while reading it--great comedic timing. Two aspiring heroes keep stumbling towards success and foiling the plans of the evil Dagzobad. You might be hungry for a Broccito by the end of the book!
Adorable, funny, and fun kids graphic novel. Would be great for the 6-8 age group and as a high/low book for older kids. The plot was fast moving and I loved how their weapons were partly made from yarn.
