Buying a house that was rumored to be haunted might not have been the brightest idea I had ever had, but you didn’t see how beautiful it was. Unfortunately, the dead body in the bathtub left a ring of suspicion around the entire house. Allie McSwain never intended to buy a new house, but when the beautiful mansion just outside of town goes up for sale, she has to take a look at it. It was a piece of Sandy Harbor history and was not to be missed. She brings her best friend Lucy Gray along, and the real estate agent takes them on a house tour they won’t soon forget. Mummy pies were Allie’s grandmother’s special Halloween treat, and Allie tries to recreate the recipe, but the real mummy in the mansion is what gives her pause. And the creeps. Can she and her PI boyfriend, Alec Blanchard, and Lucy, find the real killer after all these years?
Mummy Pie Murder was an entertaining read and an enjoyable cozy mystery.
Allie McSwain never intended to buy the old Jensen mansion but when the beautiful property goes up for sale, she has to at least look at it. With her best friend Lucy Gray along for the ride, the real estate agent takes the two for a house tour they won't soon forget after they discover a mummified body in a locked bathroom. The closest Allie had ever come to a mummy before was the mummy pies her grandmother made as a special Halloween treat. Now she and her PI boyfriend, Alec Blanchard, will need to find the real killer after all these years.
Mummy Pie Murder was the first book in the series I read and I had no trouble following the characters despite having clearly missed out on a ton of their backstory. Allie is a fun main character and I liked the fact she was still determined to buy the house despite its' history. The friendship between Allie and Lucy was fantastic. Those two have so much fun together and I really enjoyed the antics they got up to together. I also thought her relationship with Alec was well done and I liked how easy things were between them.
The mystery in this one had an interesting premise but the execution was just ok in my opinion. The fact the mummified remains they found in the house was a person who went missing over 10 years ago was a neat direction to take things. Unfortunately I thought it was pretty obvious who the killer was almost immediately after we met them so half of Allie's investigation I was just waiting for her to figure it out. I also thought it was a bit odd that a PI was working the homicide and not the police. But maybe the reasoning behind that is explored more in previous books.
Overall this was a fun read and I would recommend it if you're looking for a cute Halloween cozy.
This is the 10th book in the serie and I enjoyed reading it. The book is set around Halloween and Allie and Alec investigate a murder in an old mansion which is said to be haunted. The book has nice atmosphere and is well written. Looking forward to read next book in the serie.
Allie sure had her heart set on a supposedly haunted house even after a body was found inside although she justified it since it was a cold case murder which was Alec's case now. The only haunted house going on inside the old Jensen mansion was a charity event haunted house which was what led to a quick but effective showdown.
Lucy always cracks me up so much! Her enthusiasm is like a cross between a little kid and a Golden Retriever, and you just can't help but like her as Allie's bestie. She had a crazy idea that she'd like to live in this big house if Alec and Allie bought it. Those two always remind me of a modern day Lucy and Ethel! And Alec is their Ricky constantly trying to keep track of what they're up to next. Come to think of it, Ed does remind me of a younger version of Fred too. Kinda laid back, nothing really bothers him. (What does he actually do for a living, right? Maybe he's retired like Fred!) They're just some of the most fun characters I've run into and always what keeps me grabbing the next book in KU!
I love this series!!!! When Allie and Lucy talk a real estate agent Kate Woosley into looking at the old Jensen Mansion they saw more than what they wanted and now have to figure out who, when and why? It's been 10 years! Alec has the job of getting the answers, and boy is it a mess to go through, with the rumors and gossip and everyone has their few cents in the mix. So Allie and Lucy gets their investigation going. Many suspects and no one is telling the truth. It's their truth the way they believe it to be. The mansion has changed a few hands through the years, so there is a lot to sift through, but Alec will find it!!!! He has to get the history of the Mansion! You won't be disappointed!!!!
Allie bakes delicious desserts and decides to bake Mummy Pies for Halloween. She and Lucy visit an old mansion which has been vacant and now on the market. Allie considers the possibilities of buying it, however, a body in the tub cuts the tour short. The victim had been reported missing, but it was assumed she just left town. Gossip clouds the truth of what happened, but Allie, Alec, and Lucy sift through to search for the truth. I especially enjoyed how Allie and Alec work through their life-decisions.

This book left me wondering how to make a Mummy Pie. It is mentioned so often that I talked about it with my mom and now I want to try and create one of my own...maybe that will be a nice fall recipe to come! Anyway, the mystery kicks off pretty quickly. This being the 10th book in the series I feel like I really know the characters and their mannerisms. I enjoy the back and forth between everyone but this time my only complaint (and is it really...) is that the who done it and then end of the story happen all too fast and I mean in like a few pages.
Never though I would use Halloween and Cozy in the same sentence but this type of cozy is the murder mystery kind which is perfect for Halloween. Throw in a supposedly haunted house complete with a real decomposed dead body and it could not be more perfect. Ironically, Allie seems to want that house for herself. Good thing she and Alex has seen their fair share of dead bodies over the years that it doesn't seem so far fetched.

So, is the mansion really haunted? Did a bunch of people die there? Is Allie really serious about buying the place? I loved getting the answers to these questions and finding out how they solved a murder that happened 10 years earlier. Very fun read.

I love all of these. I think I only just realized that Allie is younger than I thought she was, so I'm trying to decide if I'm just going to keep imagining her as the age I had in mind originally. At any rate, this is a very good book and perfect for cozy lovers to get into the fall season.
Really cute cozy mystery that was easy to follow even though it was my first read of the series and it was book 10. I felt like I was on the case with Allie and Alec. Well written and can’t wait to read more.
