Jesus at the Door: Evangelism Made Easy

Rate this book
As many as 96% of Christians are not leading anyone to Jesus. Which means that the vast majority of the wider church is, at best, simply sowing. The kingdom of God, however, requires both sowing and reaping. If we neglect reaping, we will not have a healthy harvest.Jesus at the Door offers a unique tool--an Equipping Card to use with anyone you know, anywhere--and practical, step-by-step instructions, helping readers witness to friends, family, even strangers on the street. This tried-and-tested method is framed around nine points and a picture, and takes about two minutes from introduction to salvation.

This book provides a practical, Spirit-led way to share the gospel with complete strangers and I’ve never been more excited to go out into the harvest fields. Been asking the Lord to burden my heart for the lost and this book really helped me see how urgent the gospel is in a new/fresh way

[Note: This book was provided free of charge by Chosen Books in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.]

In many ways, this book reminds this reader at least of an advertisement for a smartphone app that helps make evangelism easy. In fact, the author himself refers, at some parts of the book, to his own experience as a street preacher and to his efforts at using translation services and an app by that name (perhaps it was even created by the author and his associates) to communicate with someone in a foreign language in order to try to bring them to Christ. The fact that the author appears to be of the view that a mere profession of faith in Christianity is sufficient to make one a Christian means that the attention here is focused on getting people to be hyped enough to preach about Jesus Christ and encourage people to express a belief in him, as well as to a lesser extent set up places where new believers can be encouraged in their faith, although the author does not appear to have a particularly deep understanding of God's ways, even if he is familiar with Gospel stories, which makes him more of a sower rather than a reaper, for all of his protestation that God desires more reaping and that Christians need to be better at this.

This book is a relatively short one at about 150 pages that is divided into 14 short chapters, after a foreword and acknowledgements. The author begins with a discussion that God wants reapers and not only sowers (the author does not explain other roles like waterers and so on) (1). He talks about our responsibility to share the Gospel (2), the importance of our navigation to salvation (3), and the importance of having a relationship with God and others (4). There is a look at pedaling (and not just peddling) the Gospel (5), a look at the lack of inconvenience of good news (6), and comments that the Gospel is a sledgehammer (7). The author urges the reader to stop waiting and to harvest now (8), asks the reader to pray for the coming of the Holy Spirit (9), and talks about making friends and not converts (10). This leads to chapters about the raising of relentless reapers (11), the difference between the earthly and the eternal (12), the discussion of how it is that rescued new believers become revived (13), and some tips to close (14).

As far as an overall impression, I find a good deal more to like than to dislike about the book. For all of my differences with the author--and there are a great many to be found here, the author is one to tangle with the ideas that people have about Christians as secret agents in enemy territory laying low and trying not to draw attention to themselves instead of as ambassadors of God's kingdom making a public stand of the fact that the earth is ultimately under the authority and jurisdiction of a God against whom the inhabitants of the earth have rebelled against. Yet it is not as if these differences can be entirely swept under the rug. In order to be a believer of God, one has to be a follower of His ways, and it is not the profession of faith in Jesus Christ and a desire to be treated mercifully and forgiven by God for one's sins that is the biggest barrier to genuine belief but the way that humanity shrinks from actually obeying God's laws and following His ways, which is the mark of someone in whom the Spirit of God dwells. The lack of emphasis on godly conduct as a sign of the indwelling presence of God's Holy Spirit is all too common but is lamentable, as godly lives are a good evangelism tool that remains largely untried in our contemporary generation.

In Jesus at the Door, Scott McNamara explored the topic of evangelism and how to have the boldness and fearlessness to approach strangers and to tell them about Jesus. He explained the message behind Jesus at the door and how it begins with a picture of Jesus knocking the door with no outer key knob. This is displayed to show that we have to choose to let Jesus inside our hearts. It is drawn on the back of a card and on the front, it contains nine key points and it is divided into three categories: explain, respond, and prayer. They are also color specific in order to explain the redemption found in Christ. The card discussed the debt that Jesus paid for our sins and how He wrote us a check with His own blood and how He took care of our sins. He shared how we can turn from our ways and receive the gift Christ died for us to have. He also went into detail about how the Holy Spirit led Him into seeing people like fallen apples and when we share the good news with them and he will shake them. Throughout the book, he revealed how the nine steps to salvation led him into reaching out to others and leading them to Christ. He enclosed countless stories from people he helped to lead to Christ.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is curious on how they can become better evangelist and they are ready to be courageous on leading strangers to Christ. I immensely enjoyed how he included some tips on reaching others to Christ. I also found it interesting on how he shared how he personally gets their phone number or social media account to follow up with people that he leads to Christ, where he can still encourage them on their walk with Christ. This in turn has also led to them leading more people to Christ like a domino effect. One of my favorites stories was one he shared about a trip to Walmart and met Kyle, a big guy with tattoos. He reached out to him to try and led him to Christ and he refused. He added him on Facebook and then Kyle deleted him. Later on, his wife reached out to Scott and they needed serious help. Kyle hit his wife when he was drunk and SWAT was called out and he had a gun in his hand. Kyle reminded hearing a voice that told him to put down the gun. After this event, they both changed their lives around after receiving Christ and became sober and they in turn led others to Christ afterwards. I liked the concept of the card and how it contained helpful questions to get unbelievers into thinking about redemption found in Christ.

Jesus at the Door is the most effective evangelism tool I have ever come across and personally used. This guide will not only take you wonderfully through the nine-step Jesus at the Door process but also give you a fiery passion to reach the lost and partner with God to see lives transformed by the Gospel. I highly recommend this book!

Let me just sum things up by reminding you that Scott Mcnamara is a crack pot that thinks God speaks to him. Never mind that there is no such thing as God, but there is such a thing as brainwashed crackpots. You gonna belive this guy or Stephen Hawking?
