Her Unlikely Protector by Regan Black
Book 5 of the Escape Club Heroes series. Harlequin Romantic Suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Officer Aubrey Rawlins is a beat cop in Philly. She believes that walking the neighborhood, knowing the residents, and having a presence there can make a difference.
Leo Butler can’t find his sister and he’s near panic. It’s not like her to be out of touch. Leo travels to Philly to search for his sister because the police can’t drop everything to help.

Fast moving with great chemistry between Aubrey and Leo. I felt his desperation and fear. Her love of her town is evident in her knowledge of the locals. The tension raises as Aubrey and Leo get closer to each other and find more twists and questions of what’s going on in the homeless community.
Engaging and suspenseful with the guaranteed hea. But it’s tense for a while there.

I love being able to buy these at the beginning of the month directly from the publisher. Score!

Good book. Police officer Aubrey Rawlins is a beat cop who works the area around a college campus, including homeless camps and shelters. She loves what she does and believes that she makes a difference. Aubrey also has the reputation in her precinct of having a soft heart, one that gets her into trouble. That soft heart is entirely in evidence when she and her partner respond to a disturbance at a local soup kitchen. There they find a very agitated man looking for information on his missing sister.

Leo Butler and his sister Lara are very close despite the nine-year age difference between them. Though he lives in Cincinnati and she goes to college in Philadelphia, they talk or text every day. He hasn't heard from her in a week and is desperately worried about her. Leo has already created one disturbance at her dorm and has been lectured by campus security. His only lead is Lara's work at the soup kitchen.

I liked the first meeting between Leo and Aubrey. Her kindness and compassion shine as she talks Leo down from his agitation and convinces him to file a missing person report. Leo listens to her but also doubts the willingness of the department to conduct a proper search for Lara. What neither of them expected was the instant attraction that flared between them. Each tried to resist the feelings at first thanks to emotional baggage from their pasts, but it wasn't long before it became too strong to deny.

I liked watching the relationship develop between Aubrey and Leo. As they work together to find Lara, they get to know each other. Aubrey begins to understand the close relationship between the siblings and the abundance of love Leo has to offer. Leo learns of Aubrey's devotion to the people of her city and her belief in making a difference. I liked his growing respect for her abilities, even as his protectiveness reached new levels. I also liked Aubrey's understanding of Leo's need to do something even when she disapproved of his methods. As their efforts continued, their feelings for each other deepened even though they knew Leo would eventually leave Philadelphia. I ached for Aubrey as she let her fears push him away. I hurt for Leo and his feeling of rejection. His solution was fantastic, and I loved his big moment at the end.

The suspense of the story was good. Leo's desperation to find Lara gave the story intensity from the start. The use of the homeless community and its many issues added heart to the search. When it becomes clear that Lara is in danger, Aubrey bites the bullet and agrees to involve Grant at the Escape Club (I didn't agree with her issues and dislike for him, but I understood where she was coming from). There were some tense moments in the story, from confrontations in a coffee shop and with a homeless man to the final showdown. I was on the edge of my seat as bullets flew, and Aubrey and Leo raced to save Lara. I wasn't terribly surprised by the truth when uncovered, but the journey was great.

I really enjoyed this multi-layered love story. Leo comes to Philadelphia trying to find his sister Lara who has gone incommunicado with him. Once there, he befriends Officer Aubrey Rawlins who works a beat in the city. The two pair up to try to investigate what has happened to Lara. It was heartwarming to see the deep love Leo had for Lara, so much so that he was willing to leave his career in Cincinnati behind in order to find her and support her once he did. That was one kind of love. There was also the developing relationship between Aubrey and Leo, a kind of love that had to mature because both were wounded in the past. Once I read the book, I understood all the ways that Leo was an “unlikely protector” but he seemed more like a superhero in my book. He was willing to go to any length to find Lara and face any danger necessary in order to protect her from the same. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and more about the plight of the homeless and how some unscrupulous people can take advantage of them. There were characters who were lovable, likable and deplorable. It was a perfect quick read and thoroughly enjoyable.

I had no read any of the escape nor the Riley books. I am please to say I was not lost - and I purchased the preceding escape books :) I love that big brother was so close to his sister, He carries some guilt on his shoulders and his sister is his sunshine. When he hasn't heard from her he goes looking. Frustration eats at him as nothing is happening fast enough by george something is wrong because she would have been in touch with him. Aubrey has some of her own baggage but has never ending faith in people and goodness. I really like that this tale takes place highlighting some of the struggles with homelessness. A book that gently taps you on the shoulder saying, hey, are you aware and spoons it with romance and suspense. Win. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

Her Unlikely Protector by Regan Black is my first book by this author and will not be the last. This fast paced exciting story is not like any other story I have read! This storyline is so new and different than I am used to reading! It is an electrifying tale with a mixture of mystery, love, crime, family loyalty, plenty of drama and many twists and turns! Regan’s characters are well developed and keep you turning page after page! This is a very entertaining read from cover to cover. This emotional intensive written tale will have you looking for more! I highly recommend this unrelenting novel to all. You will not be disappointed.

Thank you Regan Black for a copy of this exciting book and allowing me to be part of your review team in exchange for an honest review.

I love a story when you have older sibling is very close to the youngest.

Officer Aubrey Rawlins is a Philly Police Officer who walks the streets know all the with Calvin. They walk the same streets everynight and alot of the people on the street know Officer Rawlins as Officer Aubrey. She is a strong woman Officer who follows by the book. But they say she has a soft heart. Especially when it comes to Mr. Leo Bulter because he wants to file a missing persons report on his sister.

Leo Bulter at the age of 10 has always been the one left out. When he can't contact Lara he goes to Philly to find his missing sister. When he goes around looking and asking about her people say they haven't seen her. He causes all things of trouble.

Lara Bulter is a college student and she has taken the semester of and nobody know why.
She puts her stuff in storage and puts a hold on her college money for classes.
What she doing nobody wants to help her but Officer Aubrey.

Officer Aubrey get a weeks suspension for the doing something that was unethical by the Police Department and hire up. Aubrey does her job and get punished for it or is it on her own time.
Regan put characters together perfectly and the description is a set in the middle if a very bad snow storm.

This is 4th book I have read in this series ( The Riley Code) and I loved it as much as the others. You have amazing and funny characters that are very real. There is mystery, drama, action, romance along with so much more. I won’t do spoilers but this is one of those books that once you start it, it is hard to stop reading. Highly recommend it.

Sadly skimmed a lot of it—no connection with the characters & just felt flat! Have so many novels on my TBR list that I don’t have the time or inclination to read only subpar books! Recommend this it was not for me, but could be for others so give it a try I’m glad I did just more so that it is finished lol!

The Homeless People has become a large enough problem that many different approaches are being tried to find solutions. Leo, from Cincinnati, is looking for his sister, Lara, in Philadelphia. He is concerned that he has not heard from her since the start of Christmas Break. He is very focused on finding his sister and has been disruptive enough that he has come to the attention of the Police, in particular a beat cop, Aubrey and her partner, who foot patrol an area that includes a number of homeless encampments and soup kitchens. Leo is totally out his element as a Logistic Manager for the Cincinnati Airport and Aubrey is on thin ice with the Police Department. Leo and Aubrey know as soon as they meet that they want to get to know each other better, but both have a lot of emotional baggage to overcome.
Lara does not want to be found. She is working on a Political Science Project that only her professor knows about. She has gone undercover, and she has been living the life of a homeless person with the homeless. Leo knows that she is still in Philadelphia because people admit they have seen her. Leo refuses to accept that she is an adult and legally make her own choices.
The Escape Club and Grant lend a hand. The weather in Philadelphia is a character in the story. But the big thing is that there is a focus on the homeless. When you volunteer you are overwhelmed by the amount of work that needs to get done each day. You find that each person has their own set of problems and issues and to improve their situation they need a lot of one-on-one help. Given a chance, most of the homeless would rather be clean and have indoor plumbing. The money that this is going to cost is where everything bogs down. And maybe, it should not, we have a lot of the structure in place, and they can go far with a little more money and volunteers, lots of volunteers.

Leo Butler is searching for his missing sister when he meets Officer Aubrey Rawlings. He's so upset by her disappearance that he reacts badly and causes a disturbance. I knew Leo was desperate but it bothered me to see him out of control. Since Lara is an adult, the police can't do much. However, Aubrey takes a special interest. I like that she cares for people and that people respected her. Aubrey discovers that Lara went underground to help the homeless. Now she's in over her head. Someone wants to stop Lara. Can Leo and Aubrey find her and keep her safe? Leo needs Aubrey. She keeps him grounded. They understand one another. They form a bond which helps ease their worry. Unfortunately the same evil has targeted them. Who is behind this plot? Leo and Aubrey are a strong couple. I know they can overcome their problems. I was rooting for them to save Lara. I loved the setting, the characters and the dialogue. I was happy when the Escape Club became involved. Aubrey needed back up. Regan Black kept me on the edge of my seat. Her Unlikely Protector was a great romantic suspense story with some surprises.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.

Snowy Philly is the setting for Aubrey and Leo's story.

Leo is making a nuisance of himself, he knows that. But his baby sister is missing and no-one is taking it seriously. Yes, she is an adult. Yes, she is a student. But they're in touch every day and there have been no transactions on any of her accounts. When he meets Aubrey and her partner he thinks he may finally have found someone to listen to him. But are they just fobbing him off?

Aubrey has learned her lesson. After her last disaster of a boyfriend almost ruined her career, she has no desire for IA to have reason to poke their noses into her life again. But Leo is so last without his sister and so determined to find her, she can't help but assist him. She doesn't care if her Auzie Sunshine attitude annoys folk, she WILL see the best in people.

Leo's desperation is palpable and the frustration has he uncovers the reasons for Lara's disappearing act. He's at turns proud, annoyed, angry, and worried. There are machinations afoot and the Homeless of Philly is in the crosshairs of someone's sights. There are lots of miscommunication, misunderstandings and cross-wires but they get their HEA eventually!

Leo Butler had not heard from his sister Lara and panicked when he was told that she dropped out of college and is nowhere to be found. Arriving at her college and while questioning students he is confronted by Officer Aubrey Rawlins. She understands his distress and agrees to do everything, within the law, to help him. Leo is attracted to Aubrey and no matter how hard she tries to keep a distance between them, he slowly works his way into her heart. Aubrey learns that Lara has taken on a college project to live among the homeless. She hopes to bring awareness of their needs and find out who had them forcibly removed from their camp and why. There is a hidden agenda as someone wants Lara stopped and Aubrey is unjustly suspended to keep her from investigating. When she and Lara are attacked, will they finally learn what is really going on and why? The author’s ability to express Leo’s feeling of helplessness was at times heartbreaking. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)

4 1/2 STARS!

Unexpected twists will have your attention quickly in Regan Blacks return to her Escape Club Heroes series. HER UNLIKELY PROTECTOR is fast paced and attention grabbing as a brother's only hope of finding his missing sister is a dedicated street cop. Solid characters, a unique plot and a sweet happily ever after will have you riveted.

Aubrey is a unique character who goes out of her way to help any and every person she can in life. She's optimistic and truly believes that good will win out and it was endearing to get to know her.

Leo is pushy and interfering in the beginning of the book and in one aspect that was irritating, but in another it made us adore him because he was so dedicated to his little sister. I ended up liking him a lot.

I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who likes a good mystery with interesting characters and a hint of romance to round out the story.

I enjoy reading books by Regan Black because she writes one of my favorites--romantic suspense. Although her book, Her Unlikely Hero, can be described as a friends-to-lovers book, it's much more. It has a confident police officer for a heroine--Aubrey Rawlins and a handsome hero--Leo Butler. Leo leaves his home and job in Ohio and travels to Philadelphia looking for his sister who is a college student. He hasn't heard from her, which is unusual, and he is really getting worried. Aubrey and Leo look for leads and begin doing some investigating. Leo eventually asks the Escape Club for their assistance. In this book, Regan Black does a good job of highlighting the need for programs to help the homeless. I liked this book because it is different than most other books I've read. I will definitely continue reading books by this author.

Officer Aubrey Rawlins loves her Job in Philly. She loves walking the beat every day with her partner. Then, Leo Butler comes in to report his sister Lara missing from Penn State University. Leo is frantic as he has never lost touch with his sister. Now, he hasn't heard from her in 2 weeks. That never happens. Aubrey and her partner take the info down and Aubrey puts missing photos up all over her area. They also keep running into Leo, who is doing his own investigation into the homeless shelters and soup kitchens, frequently causing trouble and hurt feelings.
Aubrey and Leo have an immediate attraction but Aubrey has already been burned once and is not about to have it happen again.
Fast paced story with quite a few plot twists!
You'll enjoy this one!!

Leo is worried. He hasn’t heard from his sister and the college she has been attending says she has withdrawn from school. Where can she be? He’s checked her bank account and nothing has been withdrawn. How is she living??

Aubrey works for Philly PD. He fellow officers think that she wears rose colored glasses but she has her feet planted firmly on the ground. Until she gets a call about a disturbance and sets her eyes on Leo. He is distraught. He wants to find his sister and no one will give him any information.

These two work together to piece together the puzzle of where Lara has disappeared to. While doing so the sparks fly.

This was a great read with mystery and adventure. Twists and turns will lead you on this chase to find Lara.

Aubrey Rawlins is a officer in Philly that walks a bet and has a lot to do with helping the homeless people and she always see's the good in people which has caused her some trouble at work. She meets Leo whose sister has gone missing from the college when he fills out a missing person report. Aubrey keeps running into him at the homeless shelter and soup kitchen and he's starting to get in the way of her investigation and causing people to clam up and not say anything. This book deals with homeless people and how they are treated and how they look out for each other. There's drama, mystery, and an immediate attraction for Aubrey and Leo. This is a fast paced story with twists and turns.

A different story line in this book. Aubrey is a Philly police officer, Leo is searching for his sister that has disappeared. Leo is a bit of a character to get into, he is not on his best behavior at all times and the way he approaches different scenarios is putting some people off that can assist him find his sister. Aubrey is the one who sometimes goes to far in helping others, as she's had some history and gotten into trouble previously. It takes everyone to help solve the mystery and also to figure out their feelings for each other. An enjoyable read.

This is a fast-paced story with plenty of drama, suspense, and mystery along with some twists and romance. Leo Butler is looking for his missing sister and in his desperation to find her he is causing more harm than good. He has a very off-putting attitude towards those he’s asking for help and Officer Aubrey Rollins can see disaster written all over him and his approach for assistance so she steps in to do what she can to help; even at the risk of her career. This read is unique and compelling from the start and easily hold interest. I enjoyed getting to know the characters and seeing their relationship develop throughout the story. It is an enjoyable read.

Her unlikely protector is the 5th book in the Escape Club Heroes series but you can read it as a stand-alone ( although you wouldn’t want to miss the other books in this awesome series)
Leo Butler comes to Philadelphia to look for his missing sister Lara and he meets officer Aubrey Rawlins and together they try to find Lara.
This is a emotional read, it has a lot of twists and turns and a unpredictable storyline.
I’ve learned a lot about the way homeless people live and I think the author did a great job writing about them.
A well deserved 5 stars!
I loved this book, it’s original and inspiring.
I thank the author Regan Black for the Arc and this review is my honest opinion.

A wonderful story filled will an overprotective brother, sleazy businessmen, safeguarding homeless individuals, and a little romance. Leo Butler arrives in Philidelphia looking for his sister, only to find out she withdrew from college and left her dorm without a trace. Office Aubrey Rawlins records his missing person report, reminding him his sister is a legal adult and can go off-grid if she chooses to. The story flows smoothly. The wonderful characters are well-developed and realistic. I enjoyed reading the book.

When Leo's sister goes missing, he wants to do everything in his power to find her. But showing up in a homeless food kitchen losing his cool is not the right way to go about it. When Office Aubrey Rawlins is the officer on the scene, she can tell he is sincere in his quest to find his sister. Can they work together to find her with sparks flying between them? This is another great book in the Escape Club Heroes series.

Regan Black delivers again in this standalone book in the Escape Club Heroes series. Can Officer Aubrey Rawlins trust Leo Butler while trying to find his sister. Is Lara lost or hiding from someone. Aubrey has a too kind heart and has been subjected to ridicule from the officers at the precinct. This makes her uneasy with talking to and asking for help from Grant at the club. I did receive this book as part of the review crew.
