» Ken Blanchard, coauteur de The one Minute Manager et Lead with Love

I usually don't like self help books but have been searching for ways to learn about the role of a leader. I have struggled to understand why some leaders are afraid (and/or refuse) to grow deep emotional connections to empower their team. Chopra gave clear and necessary tools to expand my interest in collaborative work and how to sustain integrity in my practice. I think he provides a very zen approach to modern society.
I almost hate to admit it--Chopra has birthed so many cliches--but I really enjoyed this book. Not only that, I was inspired by it. So much so that I'm considering picking up copies for my coworkers. It's not that he says anything new; it's that he is very good at summarizing eternal truths and creating "action lists" out of them, without dumbing them down. Highly recommended for anyone who is wrestling with questions of power and leadership, and wants a deeper approach to handling the role of a leader with grace and integrity.
Not only is this a wonderful book for upper management, it provided some very interesting ideas and exercises for becoming the manager of your life, or whatever your sphere of influence is. This book is so much better than most of the business management books out there, and I think every manager should be required to read it!
Another self-help book. I have been on a bit of a leadership research quest over the past couple of months. Nothing new here but then again, if you are starting your leadership quest then this isn't a bad start either. It's comprehensive, easy to read and actionable. Yes, this emphasis gives it a bit of a religiosity bent but the wording doesn't feel like someone is knocking on your door and trying to convert you to something. Other reviews have outlined the L.E.A.D.E.R.S. anacronym and I really appreciate S - Synchronicity. Worth a look.
In this book the writer who is Deeper Chopra laid his focus on one of the most important life skill, which is leadership. However Chopra’s definition of leadership does not only include those individuals with special attributes, but he views leadership as a potential skill to any person who can get inspiration from his soul to become a leader. He believes that being a successful leader requires evolving passion to what you do. The book is divided into three parts: in the first part he defines the letters of the acronym “LEADERS”, the second part gives a real example of individuals who used their soul to emerge as great leader and the third part outlines ten principles of leadership. He defines the key aspects of Leadership as, L= Look & Listen, E: Emotional bonding, A: Awareness, D= Doing, E= Empowerment, R= Responsibility and S= Synchronicity. Although Chopra has interesting perspective of leadership, the soul part was a bit confusing. I did not see my self communicating with his ideas, however I liked the way he guides the reader step by step, identifying even the hidden strengths such as emotional intelligence in the way to emerge as a successful leader. I truly enjoyed the part that talks about Jeremy Moon’s experience in leadership, it was really inspiring and it gave me a real sense of what it takes to build and lead a flourishing business.
Uplifiting and enlightening. I have posted the acronym LEADERS in my office to constantly remind me to Look and Listen, creating opportunities or take advantage of opportunities for Emotional Bonding, to make sure that I remain Aware of what is going on around me, the impact that I have on others and how I am allowing others to influence me, to remember to Do, to take action, to Empower myself and those around me to strive to be better, to reach higher, to dream bigger, to be Responsible for my actions and influence, and to be open to Sychronicity with myself, those around me and the universe.
This was decent information being delivered, and while Deepak's words themselves can often be inspiring, his accent actually makes the audiobook less valuable. He is difficult to follow. At the same time, I was expecting more from the guts of the book. These ideas seemed to be on a very basic (maybe obvious) level. I felt like I was finishing it just to get it over with.
I really enjoyed and was inspired by this book. So inspired, in fact, that I'm going to buy myself and a few friends our own copies; it's not just for managers or leaders, but good guidelines and suggestions for life. Chopra is not necessarily saying anything new, but he pulls together a roadmap with actions items that gets the mind - and soul - paying attention.
Very very good read, a breath of fresh air from the majority of business leadership titles. I need to warn you, this is not for everyone, I am afraid many would misjudge this book if they have not read Chopra before. I personally could have done book clubs for it. My former HR boss let me borrow it, and it was a very pleasant read.
This is such an incredible, little book. I'm actually going to buy it and read it again. If you want to be a conscious, awake and intentional leader...in any aspect of your life...you have to read this book.
Excellent book on leading from your soul, touching upon Transcendant Leadership...
“Transcendence: Awareness ultimately has no boundaries. It exists in this world but endlessly goes beyond it. The world’s great wisdom traditions all derive from a higher reality that is indescribable but can be experienced. This is the greatest wonder and source of awe. As the ancient India sages declare, “This isn’t knowledge that you learn. It’s knowledge that you become.” When you fully absorb this insight, you know what it means to transcend. You don’t need to travel anywhere; all of reality exists in you. You exemplify wholeness because you are united with everything and everyone around you. You exist to demonstrate that human beings can reach the infinite, and by simply being who you are, you help others get there.”
Chopra's The Soul of Leadership is a surprisingly simple book. The subject seems so obvious, but I have never seen these concepts addressed so plainly and so fully. And it makes perfect sense.
Simply put, Chopra addresses Leadership from the perspective of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. "In rising order the group's needs are for safety and security, achievement, cooperation, understanding, creativity, moral values, and spiritual fulfillment."
Even though this concept seems so obvious and basic, leadership books rarely address all of these issues and do it in such easy to understand language. From what I have seen, leadership books tend to address a couple of these areas, but never all of them - which is why this is a must read.
I was skeptical going in to read The Soul of Leadership because it wasn't brand new, and for me, Chopra has become a little cliche over time. So I was super surprised that this book spoke to me and gave me multiple epiphanies 😂 which is ultimately the reason I gave it a 5 Star. The exact book that I needed at the exact right time.
{I should note that I'm going to be reading several leadership books which is why I choose this one in the first place, the library had 2 books ready and this was one of them. Had 10 books been ready I'm not sure I would have chosen this one.}
Deepak Chopra brings his views of the world to the work place. To do that, he takes the word "Leaders" and brings it down as a mnemonic device to talk about "Look and Listen, Emotional Bonding, Awareness, Doing, Empowerment, Responsibility, Synchronicity." Each phrase is gone into in depth, bringing Chopra's well-known gentle humanitarianism to the corporate world. Is it game changing? Not really, but is a look that not just any author would be able to bring with conviction.
A good insight of putting your soul into a leadership role that you may stand behind for. However, it took me awhile to get through this book and I had picked it up numerous times to read a chapter here and there. The last chapter brought it all together. I could've skipped all in between and saved the trouble by just skipping to the last chapter. However, this book did give me a different outlook on asking myself "Why do I do what I do? ". How do I transfer this message to my staff?
I had heard a lot of good thing about Deepak Chopra, but to be honest, this book did not have many great insights for me. I felt like much of what was here was simply an organized way of looking at basic leadership skills. I most enjoyed the two stories at the end that were used as examples of leadership and wish there were more of those in this book.
I read a lot of Chopra… not only is his message undeniably needed but also because he reads his own audiobooks and I love his voice. This book is excellent and I’ll probably buy a hard copy of it to refer to and take notes. The reason for four stars over five is that it is very repetitive with what he has already written. What he writes is such good stuff, though, it’s worth a reminder.
Quite an awesome handbook about leadership. I consider myself to be a natural leader, and so this book gave me a sense of grounding. A leader never forgets what it's like to fail, empathises with their team and the actions of the leader are for the benefit of the whole team.
I started listening to this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, it is so packed with useful information and applications that I had to stop listening so I could get a physical copy. This material should be consumed in a format that allows you to experiment on what is being taught.
This is my first Deepak Chopra book, he has a lot of good values for leadership, that can be applied in life to various scenarios. Several things he explains made me think about my own leadership skills! Books like this tune our thought process, thereby our lives...Worth a read...
This book has some thought-provoking information and suggestions. I didn't agree with all of it, but there were a lot of ways to incorporate spirituality into leadership that I did appreciate. Good read for those that want to bring more of their higher self to work.
Ridiculously good and not as "woo-woo" as you might think. Just excellent advice in general about being a thoughtful (or soulful) leader. Way too many tips to keep track so I recommend just reading it and letting it "sit."
