Halloween is approaching And while it might be different this year, many homes are lavishly decorated. Jackson Crow thinks it’s fine that his adopted son, Corby, takes a walk down the street to see some of the ghoulish displays. Except Corby hurries back to him. One “creature” isn’t—or wasn’t—a creature at all. The bizarre costuming covers someone once real—a human corpse. He and his wife and partner, Special Agent Angela Hawkins, must join with the local police, other Krewe members, and all law enforcement. Victimology sends them on the hunt for a killer who is out for revenge—and using the holiday for his own ends. It’s a race against time for them as they seek out the man who is dead-set on his vengeance—lest he turn Halloween into an end-game that will turn the holiday night into a display of pure evil. It’s All Hallows’ Eve—and on such a night, there just might be a little help from the dead.

Angela and Jackson are at home when Corby brings home a ghost 👻 who has been murdered. This leads them on an investigation into the Halloween 🎃season and horror as the killer attempts several murders. They and their team prevent these murders and capture the murderer closing the case. The family settles down with the ghost 👻 to a quiet Halloween 🎃Night. I would recommend this novella and author to 👍 readers of romantic relationships mystery novels 👍🔰. 2023 👒😀💘😅
I am giving this 4.5 stars because I really liked it and it almost hit that next level for me. I have only read one other book by this author but enjoyed it a lot. I have not read any of the series that these characters originate from but it has made me want to read it more if this is the type of story that will be relayed. The characters are very engaging and make you want to know about them and their life, if you are not already aware of who they are. The Halloween theme works very well here.
Jackson Crow is conducting some business and has no problem when his adopted son, Corby, wants to go and look at the Halloween displays in the neighborhood. But when Corby comes rushing back because he has seen what may be a real person in one of the displays it is time for him to go into action.
Jackson and his wife, Special Agent Angela Hawkins, join the local police, other Krewe members all law enforcement as they hunt for the killer. He/She seems bent on some type of revenge and is using the holiday as a cover for their crimes.
Things are mostly well done but you do get the occasional word jumble here and there. While this is not scary the story is good and draws you in because you want to take the journey and track the killer with them. Well worth the time!
A short read featuring two members of the Krewe investigators. This is the one series of hers that I've really enjoyed. Fun, light stories involving different paranormal adventures/mysteries that make for great October reading.
I picked up this short e-book from one of my favorite authors because I wanted to something a little lighter between the 500-600 page tomes I have been reading of late, and since I have read many of the previous series, I thought it would be enjoyable.
I was both right and wrong. This novella takes place in the Krewe of Hunters series about a group of FBI agents who have the ability to see and interact with ghosts which assists them on their cases. Since I have read several other books in this series, I had no problem with the continuity, even though I have not read several of the intervening stories.
I was pleased to see the development of the characters of Angela Hawkins and Jackson Crow, series regulars who have been around since the early days of the series, and who have married, and now have two children, one through adoption, and one by birth, as they continue their work.
I also enjoyed the premise of the story, that of a serial killer who disguises the bodies of his victims as Halloween decorations, and even enjoyed the mentions the author made about the current crisis facing the world, as characters are noted to be wearing masks in public.
However, the story was really not well-developed. There were a couple of inconsistencies in the plot, revolving around the antagonist’s motivation and endgame, as well as errors in spelling that seemed as though the book was rushed to publication. The ending of the story also presented a problem to me, because though the climax was good, the falling action was “told” and not “shown,” something I would not expect in a well-developed story by a very successful author.
As I don’t consider this book up to the usual standards, I am only giving it three stars. It still is a fun read for those looking for a quick, spooky Halloween story for the season, but it is definitely not the best example of this author’s work.
I enjoyed this mostly-light short story featuring Angela, Jackson, and their son Corby, who can see and communicate with ghosts. It’s ten-year-old Corby who notices the several days-old dead body amidst Halloween decorations.
It is nice to have a level-headed, young character in this story, not to mention a stoic Vietnam vet who helps with the investigation. The villain is a bit OTT, but I suppose it’s allowable in a Halloween story, and he does have special talents that help him perform gruesome Halloween tasks.
4.5 stars due to grammatical errors, but I liked the story enough to bump it up to 5 stars.
Halloween is fast approaching and many homes are outstandingly decorated since things are different this year. Jackson Crow allows his son to walk down the street to look at the decorations but he soon returns. It seems that one of the "creatures" is all too real. Jackson and Angela join the police on the case. Can they catch the killer before someone else dies?
I love the Krewe of Hunters series and this quick, fun read was a great addition to the series. Well-written with wonderful characters, this story captured me from the beginning and I read it in one sitting. I especially enjoyed getting to know more about Corby, Jackson and Angela's son. I highly recommend this book.
Angela and Jackson sure do have an active home life. For a family affected by the restrictions of COVID-19, they always seem to go out and catch a bad guy. Halloween isn’t what it always was and a serial killer is on the lose. This madman kills and poses the deceased as a macabre addition to scary holiday decorations. One of the victims comes back from the dead to help catch the murderer who is a master of disguise. As a lover of all the Krew stories, this was a good read for me.
Heather Graham's s paranormal romances have been a little guilty pleasure of mine for a few years now. Not all are brilliant literature but they always entertain. Sadly this one did not. It seemed to be almost called in, rushed and mishmashed together just to satisfy some contractual agreement. I didn't expect scary, it is just a short Halloween story, but I did expect an intelligent mystery like Graham always delivered, short story or novel. Unless you must read every Krewes book in the series I would say skip this.
Special Agents Jackson and Angela Crow are called in when a Halloween display is discovered to contain an actual dead body. Pretty soon there's another corpse ... and that's when Jackson and Angela's special skills come into play, as they need to talk with the murder victim's ghost.
This is a fun short story set in the world of the Krewe of Hunters, a special unit of the FBI. I've read several of the books and enjoyed them very much. This seasonal tale was an entertaining break in my regular reading.
Why did I choose this rating ... Good question. Because all her books are Brilliant, but I know one day there will be that one book that tops them all, So until that happens she will always get 4 stars because I love these books. This short story was great, very cleverly done.. I don't like saying too much about the story line because it's better to read the story yourself. Now going to read another of hers.
A short story with some of the original and my favorite Krewe members. Jackson and Angela search out a killer who is propping his victims in Halloween displays. The ghost who helps is a victim and it was neat to see him help get justice. Corby is adorable and seeing them as a family is fantastic. This is a great stop gap story between the books and for any fans Krewe series!
Someone is killing people and making them up into Halloween decorations. Jackson and Angela's adopted son Corby was the first to discover that one of the Halloween decorations at a deserted house is actually a corpse and so the Krewe got involved in the case. I've always find it strange that kids aren't allowed to watch horror movies but are allowed to view all the scary decorations during Halloween?
Loved the story line. As always I love all Heather Graham's books, whether short or full length. The Krewe of Hunters is the series that started me on the ghostly romance mysteries. I've never missed a one since I read the 1st one set in Key West. I believe the ghost was a pirate named Bartholomew. Just today I downloaded 14 of the novellas by Ms. Graham. Didn't realize I missed so many.
I always enjoy reading the Krewe of Hunters stories. This one is just in time for Halloween, but little did Jackson and Angela know that this year with their adopted son , Corby, that would be hunting a killer. They knew things would be different with the pandemic, but didn't want to have to work in this ghoulish time. Creepy and perfect story, with some help from their friendly ghosts.
This short was another winner. I love this Author. She writes wonder books. This series is my favorite. Every book of hers is my favorite. She has a great imagination and is a great storyteller. I highly recommend every book she has written.Diana Romano
I wish the book had been longer as I really enjoyed the story. This is another Krewe of Hunters Book. Someone is going around turning real people into Halloween displays. So the hunt is on to stop the person before the climax on Halloween. Will they be in time before more murders occur?! Read on and enjoy!
I Hope Heather will write, Krewe of Hunters, for the rest of her career… Each one is Really good. All the Characters are real and all with great Personalities. Keep going Heather…. Your other books are really good also, but I love all of the Krewe of Hunters.
Fast and easy Halloween read. I enjoyed the main characters as a happily married couple and was intrigued by their ability to communicate with the dead. I wanted something to read for Halloween and I chose this book not realizing it was part of a series. As I enjoyed it immensely, I will probably download other books in the series.
I love these Krewe shorts. I hope she continues to turn them out. This one was just so appropriate for Halloween. The Crow family are among my favorite characters. Satisfying conclusion but I was hoping for the villon to get a little more severe punishment.
A great short story in the Krewe of Hunters series!!! Corby realizes that one of the Halloween decorations is a real corpse!! It's up to his Dad and Mom to find a killer before he kills again!!!!
Disappointed with the writing. Seems like it was targeting young pre teens? A lot of unnecessary explanations that were obvious to the reader? Getting tired of the same story just different characters. Having said that I agree with Ms Grahams message of equality and respect for one another.
This is the second short story I've read. They came across hurriedly written. Some sentences and paragraphs didn't make sense to me even reread. The plot was interesting but with being a short story not a lot of suspense can be added.
Another quick holiday fare book. I love my Krewe. Can't wait for Corby to grow up, I'm sure he'll either be like his parents or a combination of his parents and Harrison.
