YOU ARE THE SECRET TO MAKING WORK THE PLACE YOU WANT TO BE
Nancy Lyons started her career not fitting in anywhere. She was a loudmouth, shared her ideas too much, and brought big energy. But there wasn't room for that in a traditional office. Nowhere did she ever feel empowered as an employee and valued for what she brought to work. So when she became a CEO and business owner herself, she set out to cultivate a work culture unlike anything she'd experienced before, starting with her mindset. In Work Like a Boss, she teaches everyone—boss or not—how to do it too.
Inside, Nancy shares lessons learned through personal experience (and experiments) and what she has observed in her twenty-five years of business leadership. With her decades of skill in developing award-winning people-centered work cultures, Nancy gives you tough-love advice on things you've long forgotten are essential at
Identifying and using better mindsets and practices Bringing your best self, even when it's difficult Overcoming your bad communication habits Owning your sh*t And more
Real power doesn't come with a title, a promotion, or managing a team. No matter your role or industry, Work Like a Boss will teach you what you can do, right now, to create the conditions for yourself and others to thrive at work.
CEO, author, and speaker, Nancy Lyons has been at the forefront of the work culture conversation for more than twenty years. “People-first as a business strategy” is the guiding principle that fuels the unique, award-winning culture at Clockwork.
Nancy has led employees and clients through thousands of business, team, and work culture challenges. As a digital veteran, she has witnessed the dramatic change technology brought to both businesses and people, and yet also sees people and companies struggling to figure out how to adapt.
She speaks and writes about the crucial role work culture plays in delivering meaningful and effective results. Work culture — our feelings, behaviors, and interactions — is core to how we work. It’s a primary determinant of personal and professional success. Nancy has watched people go from being a victim of work to being the agent of work with simple shifts.
Her first book was Interactive Project Management: Pixels, People, and Process, a human-centered approach to producing digital products. Her current book, Work Like a Boss: A kick-in-the-pants Guide to Finding (and Using) your Power at Work, is the little book everyone needs to remember the actions, attitudes, and attributes that will make work better, for individuals and everyone around them.
Nancy is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including:
100 People to Know from Twin Cities Business
101 most influential people in the world of work, management, and career from Ladder magazine

This is a must read for anyone who wants to be their best self at work, wants to do their part to make their workplace better, or just wants to enjoy going to work every day. Nancy takes extremely important concepts and makes them funny and accessible to anyone. Some of the concepts may be familiar, but the way they are communicated may not be - it's like your best friend being funny yet sometimes brutally honest with you about what you need to change. If even a small percentage of the US workforce took her advice to heart, work would become decidedly less "work". The last chapter is a perfect summation of the rest of the book, and I plan to return to that chapter regularly as a reminder of all the things I can do to #worklikeaboss.
I adore Nancy Lyons, so it would have been h*lla awkward if I hated the book. Luckily, I loved it — even more than I thought I would. I just finished the last page and am full of All The Thoughts about how to make things better.
Listening to the audiobook feels like you’re just hanging out with Nancy, hearing all the hard truths about being a boss and leader in the work place. It was very good.
A guide to rethinking how we approach work. It's pretty densely packed, which led to me setting it aside a few times and taking a while to actually finish.
This book is really inspiring and thought provoking. The knowledge and way it is presented is perfect. It was just what I needed to read at this point in my career.
