Monsters come in all shapes, forms, and sizes. Some are hideous beings determined to tear you limb from limb. Others.... well, other Monsters look like you and me. They can be anyone or anything.
Authors Terry Miller and Stephen J. Semones delve into the dark recesses of mythology, legends, and humanity to bring you the scariest Monsters imaginable. Monsters has twelve macabre tales of terrifying creatures that will frighten you directly to your bones.
Keep the lights on because these aren't your grandma's Monsters!
Best-selling author, journalist, and former filmmaker, Stephen J. Semones began writing at an early age to satisfy his compulsion to tell stories. Since then, he has gone on to develop some of the most ambitious projects in the worlds of independent film, literature, and online radio.
Retired from film, Stephen decided to put all of his focus on writing. His candid how-to-book on filmmaking, Beyond the Lens: A Beginner's Guide to Filmmaking, hit the best-seller list five times and further established him as a formidable force in both the film and literary worlds. Since then, Stephen concentrated everything on writing fiction and received high praise upon release of his own superhero novel series, GLOOM. His other fiction works include contributing three short stories to the horror and science fiction compilation Timeless Requiem from Millenia Press and short stories for the Coscom Entertainment Metahuman anthologies. He's also received critical acclaim with his frightening novella, THE SACRIFICE OF CANDACE BLAKE, and his horror novel, UNHINGED. Now writing full time, Stephen finds himself constantly interviewing, writing, and touring conventions.
Stephen currently resides in Tennessee with his beautiful wife and their four children.
‘Monsters’ is a short story collaboration between authors Terry Miller and Stephen J. Semones, containing six stories from each author for a total of twelve. And let me tell you, all twelve were excellent.
These stories are indeed all about monsters, from vampires and werewolves and ghosts to aliens and demons and that scariest of all monsters: humans. I truly enjoyed every single story but my favorites were:
The Tide (Semones) – in which a girl hovers between life and death; the suspense and desperation really got to me 100 Gallows Circle (Semones) – well, first of all, I’ve told you all before that I’m a sucker for any story with an address in its title; this story involves a couple of teenage boys tormenting an old man in their neighborhood – they think he’s a Nazi, but he’s much worse (or is he? is anything worse than a Nazi?) The Girl with the Abysmal Eyes (Miller) – “Chase Blevins dreamt of Hell.” – that’s the opening line, and by the end he does more than dream of it; anything else I say would be spoilers. The Morgue Things Change (Miller) – a lonely mortician gets a little too friendly with his, er, customers (though nothing sexual); the only friends he’s ever known welcome him with open arms.
The stories were scary, the subject matter varied, the writing excellent, the gore perfectly balanced, the protaganists relatable, the whole book well worth a purchase. ‘Monsters’ by Terry Miller and Stephen J Semones releases TODAY, September 29, 2020. Amazon has it for $12.00 paperback, $4.99 ebook, or free with Kindle Unlimited.
