Excerpt:

My kayak slowed down as it approached the shore of the Barrett home, snapping me out of my daydream. I started to paddle away when a flicker of something in the top window caught my eye.

The sun had started to set, and the glare forced me to squint in order to see properly. I didn’t know why I was looking—I probably seemed like a peeping tom—but something kept me from looking away. Once my eyes adjusted, as if deciphering a hidden object in a 3D painting, I gasped.

A man, with a toned and chiselled body, was standing at the window completely naked for the whole world to see. A part of me knew I should row away, but instead, I found myself frozen, watching, using my oar to keep me steady. I couldn’t deny that his body was hard not to look at. A feeling of familiarity came over me and my mind immediately flashed to Devon and his body.

Could that be him?

Flood's debut novel is a real page turner. It's romantic, sexy and at times a frustrating journey that is well worth the read. I felt myself wanting to give advice to the main character throughout the story. Luckily, she ended up finding her own happy ending that left me satisfied.

I loved this one! I love stories where a hero or heroine returns to their hometown and bumps into their old crush, hell, I've written my own one of those! And I was loving this one.

Ellie is returning home for the weekend for her grandmother's funeral and bumps into dreamy Devon in the most delightful way...🤭

She's working through some pain, and confusion about life and her future. Devon is super caring, he listens and gives her advice when needed and puts her first.

It's single POV, I usually love a dual but it was written so well that I was able to feel what Devon was feeling and loved the last chapter 🥰

The story was lovely and the steam, as always with Mimi, was fabulous!

Oh, man. This book brings all the pleasure and pain.

Imagine coming back home and running into your high school crush. Imagine you are a woman in flux, in pain, who really just needs to be seen. Imagine that, over a long and emotional weekend, that boy who's now a man sees you. Helps heal you. Helps you see yourself.

That's this book. Another fabulous contemporary romance by a very talented Canadian author!

"The Long Weekend" is definitely a romance that keeps you guessing - especially regarding the main character's next course of action! Elizabeth is an insecure yet bold main character whose vacillation regarding both her family obligations and love life reflects the flawed reasoning of many in real-life, thus making her quite relatable. My favorite aspects had to be the relationship of both Elizabeth and her love interest with Elizabeth's grandmother. Two main characters courting each other while sharing a mentor is not something I've seen often, and it's a dynamic I really enjoyed! I look forward to seeing more romance works from Flood.

Romance is not my genre of choice but I purchased this book after making a personal connection with the author on Twitter. This is a strong, well written debut and romance lovers will be left satisfied.

Ellie Williams left Frelighsburg the second she could for life in a big city. When her grandmother passes away suddenly, Ellie packs her car and returns to her sleepy hometown for a few days. The last person she expected to reconnect with was her high school crush, Devon who also turns out to be her neighbor. In just a few short days, their connection grows the more time they spend together.

The Long Weekend was the first book I read by Mimi and I absolutely loved it; so much so, that I just reread it. It made me just as giddy as it did the first time around. The single POV works so well for this story as there is more to this story than romance. Ellie and Devon were made for each other, it was all so genuine, heartwarming, and steamy while also being romantic and sweet. I loved the small town settling with the summer vibes and how Mimi handled the typical drama as well as the family conflicts. Second time around and I adored every moment of this love story.

I enjoyed this debut from Mimi Flood. The setting was brought to life in an enchanting way, and I could almost smell the apples in the orchard. I found the heroine difficult to relate to at times. I was glad that Devon was able to wiggle his way into her heart and help her to realize she's worthy of love. I would have liked to have seen more of a resolution with her mother, but overall it was a satisfying ending.
