The Hunted #1

Temptation

Rate this book
Shy student Penny Taylor always follows the rules. At least, that’s how it appears to her classmates. But she has one illicit secret – she’s fallen hard for her professor. And she’s pretty sure he’s fallen for her too.

Everyone loves Professor Hunter. He’s tall, dark, and handsome. And completely unobtainable. But it’s the secrets hiding behind his deep brown eyes that allures Penny. Secrets darker than she could ever imagine.

James Hunter gave up his billionaire lifestyle in NYC last year to become a professor. The easiest new rule to follow: don’t fraternize with the students. It’s easy to follow because he’s become quite the recluse in his new town – the only way he knows how to keep his secrets buried.

But he never expected to be teaching such a beautiful student. He has to resist her. He needs to walk away. Penny deserves better than a man with his demons. But she’s daring him to cross the line. And he’s never been one to resist temptation.

SO. MUCH. CRINGE.

1. I had an actual negative physical reaction every single time I had to read '"Yes!" she screamed.' Oh my God, who writes that?
2. Dialogue in generally was awkward and unnaturally verbose.
3. Instalove.
4. Main character is a total idiot.
5. The roommate/best friend is such a jerk. Why would you be friends with this person?

This thing, though, the main thing it needs to not have a number.

Throughout the book our main character struggles with whether or not to date a guy that sexually assaults her at the beginning of the book. There is no question of if they should be friends, they're instantly best friends after he apologizes and continues to try to get into her pants. I found this so distasteful and egregious that throughout the entire book I kept waiting for the punchline.

★★★★1/2! Temptation, book 1 of 2. A College girl caught in a forbidden affair with her professor, torn between her insecurities & his secrets!

“I felt my jaw drop slightly as he let his eyes rest on my exposed breasts. I wanted to say something enticing and sexy but my mind was foggy.”

Books in The Hunted series should be read in order:
Book 1: Temptation
Book 2: Addiction
Book 2.5: City of Sin
- Mason & Bee
Book 3: Eruption
Book 3.5: Addiction
- Rob & Daphne
Book 4: Devotion

Temptation (book 1) opens up to nineteen-year old University Student Penny Taylor recovering from a heartbreak. She cannot believe her luck when she catches the attention of a handsome stranger in a coffee shop only to discover he is her new marketing professor.

From the onset, entrepreneur and honorary professor James Hunter sends mixed signals until he gives into his base desires for some explosive and reckless public sex that leaves Penny dazed, confused and wanting more.

And so their nothing-short-of tempestuous whirlwind affair begins with professor Hunter in the driver seat and Penny at times making poor choices while trying to hold her own next the larger-than-life, enigmatic and composed professor.

“He left me naked and alone in his office, more addicted to him than ever.”

Nine words to describe James Hunter: Poised, enigmatic, jaded, blunt, charismatic, dominant, elusive, possessive and non-committal.

Eight words to describe Penny Taylor: Immature, insecure, sweet, naïve, impressionable, indecisive, sensitive and broken.

Temptation, told Penny’s POV, allows for Professor Hunter to remain a mystery. It’s a fast paced forbidden romance keeping you on your toes with secret, shockers, mistakes and lies! Not surprisingly it ends much like it reads – tumultuously! Needless to say I am very much looking forward to book 2, Addiction for the continuation of their story!

Larger-than-life hero! Addciting plot!

“God, his cock was huge, almost falling out of his boxers.”

NOT SAFE

I read book 1 awhile ago and it was bleh, and I think I might have DNFed it too. Bland, boring, and immature characters. Now years later I just realized there are sequels, but thankfully, I ended up looking at reviews to find that this series doesn't only not improve, but it goes to complete sh*t in the rest of the books, so i'm so glad I never continued with book 2.

In book 2, hero ignores heroine for a week because she didn't disclose her age in book 1. In that time, ONE WEEK, he sleeps with his ex-wife (still legally married to and had lied about), and she sleeps with another man that she pretty much uses, and kisses another guy. Mere hours after she sleeps with OM, she forgives hero for ignoring her and going back to his wife that he supposedly hates, and ends up sleeping with him again. That same ex-wife is also the main OTT cliche antagonist the entire series, so definitely count on OW drama. In book 3, photos also come to light of him having sex with OW, supposedly cheating on heroine. Not sure if he actually does or not, but knowing how quick he had gone back to his ex in the first fight/separation they had, I wouldn't count it out. It's only in the heroine's POV, and many reviews also say that his faithfulness the whole relationship is unknown to the heroine and that she blames it on herself. So, pathetic heroine on top of all of that. What a gem.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This book gives new meaning to the phrase "Hot for teacher"

I was really torn with rating this book. Even while writing this review, I'm torn. I enjoyed this book and it proved to be a fast read. I have also read some of the later books in the series and finally got the chance to read the book which started the series. I can see where the Author has grown as a writer. For me this was fun, escapism reading.

Penny is a nineteen-year-old college student who bumps into a man in a coffee shop. Her coffee spills on her and he offers her his sweater to wear as an apology. She accepts while noticing how good looking the man is. What could have been an innocent encounter turns serious when she shows up for her first class and is shocked to see that the man who gave her his sweater is her professor, James Hunter. Lust and longing enter stage left...

They have instantaneous lust and longing for each other which is complicated by him being her professor and also because of a fellow student who wants to be more than friends with Penny as well. Both throw caution to the wind and enter into a relationship.

Forbidden romance full of angst, secrets, and false assumptions. Some of the characters are immature and I wanted to take and shake them. I wasn't a big fan of her roommate and at times, Penny's immaturity was annoying. At times, I wondered what a twenty-seven-year-old professor who once had his own company would see in her. Having read some of the later books, I can say that she does mature and shows growth in later books. Plus, he is her professor.... I kept thinking of all the legal, ethical and moral issues that would come into play of a professor becoming involved intimately/romantically with a student. I would imagine that all universities would frown down upon that and have strict rules/code of conduct guidelines. But then again, wasn't that the point? That their relationship is naughty and forbidden? That they are throwing caution to the wind and going for it, it is a forbidden romance after-all. I did enjoy learning how the Penny and James I met in latter books, met in this book. This is definitely not your mother's harlequin romance! There are some hot scenes so if you don't like sex scenes in your romance books this wont be for you. If you are willing to overlook the issues surrounding the forbidden romance, you might just enjoy these characters and their story.

So even with some of the issues I had with the book, I enjoyed it. It was a fast-steamy read.

Truly AWFUL

There aren't enough words to describe how awful this book is. I find it incredible that it garnered so much undeserved praise. I winced and cringed my way through 62% of the book before I couldn't stand it any longer and scrolled to the end to give my honest review. The main characters were totally unrealistic and one dimensional. The only saving grace is that it was free. An absolute waste of my time. Ugh. The book was just. Plain. Terrible. Trust me.

***4- "Forbidden" stars from me***

I love forbidden romances novels but I'm not a great fan of student-teacher relationship...
Maybe because they are making me nervous, I'm always on the edge of what will happen when somebody will catch them!!!
And yep, i was feeling this nervousness while i was reading this story, but i was catching myself to enjoy it very much!!!

It was an intense, seductive, steamy and very intoxicating story...
And i loved it, even though in some points i want to hit Penny very much!!!
But let me take the things from the beginning...

First of all, this book was seperated in three parts...
Part 1: Penny and James accidentally met each other and instantly they got under each others skin...

But soon they discovered that they are connected somehow.
He was her professor in Comm class and she was his student...
But fate always got them to each others way and they tried really hard to resist to the temptation...
In that part, i loved so much all the flirting between the two of them.

It was weird and uncommon and that's why i liked it so much...
Professor Hunter was using the method of teaching to pass hot and delicious messages to Penny and Penny in her own way she was doing the same while she was answering some of his question in the classroom!!!
God!!! I enjoyed so much those moments in the classroom. I was smiling so much...
Except for that, i really loved James Hunter... He was such a hottie!!! Yummy!!!

Part 2: James gave in the temptation and they started an onorthodox secret relationship...
Here we were having the honeymoon phase until some hidden secrets were starting to be revealed and turned everything upside down.
You know, here there was all those sexy scenes and the builting of beautiful memories that they will be their companion for after...

Part 3: Penny found out a major secret for James and she got a little bit wild and crazy...
Okay, she was right in an aspect but still she was acting a little bit irrational... And she forgot that she was keeping also something from him... Her attitude was making me crazy... I wanted to slap her so badly...

So, Penny and James gave in the temptation...

Is it only lust that they are feeling for each other??? Or there is something more, something solid that it will keep them together???
Is it possible for those two to overcome all those secrets that are standing between them???
Can they have a true relationship when for all the others their status are making them forbidden to each other???
Is it possible for them to find their safe haven in each other's embrace???

I have to warn you! The obstacles are too many!!!

James Hunter was a sexy, handsome, intelligent and very bold man. In the most part of the book, he was having this mysterious aura to surround him!!!

From the first moment, he caught me on his seductive web (Okay, Penny also!!! LOL).
He was such a gentleman and he knew how to treat a woman... And as i found out later, he was like a wild beast on sex!!!
He was so controling and demanding some times, but he was also kind and caring!!!
Well, until the last page, i was questioning his motives. I really didn't know if he was telling the truth even though that he was sounding really sincere and I'm so fuckin' sure that there are many more secrets in his life that we haven't discover yet!!!
He had an ugly past and in some phases, he was letting his guard down and we could see a vulnerable man baneath the hard and sure exterior....

He really liked Penny and he was determined to have her even though that he was putting his carreer at stake.
I really liked him and i think that i am a little bit infatuated by him!!! He is still a mystery, but a mystery that i would love to solve!!!

"The realization hit me hard. This wasn't a game. Flirting with him wasn't the same as it was with guys my own age. Professor Hunter had an air of danger around him. He was intriguing because he terrified me."

The only thing that it was making me much nervous was his boldness.
He was acting like he didn't care if somebody will catch them.

He was showing up on her dorm room, they were fucking in public places and things like that they were making my heart to beat like crazy from my fear, but i have the impression that i was the only person that i was felt like that!!!!
Oh! I forgot to tell you that he was insanely wealthy and i couldn't understand why the hell he was teaching!!! But okay, i think i understand now!!!

And now, my lovely Penny!!! I have to admit that my most objections were about her and her attitude.
I liked her very much in the beginning, She was nice and cute and a little bit sassy...
But it turned out that she was a little bit stubborn and she was acting irrational.
I would call her a little bit of immature too, but maybe i can blame her age.

Well, Penny was presented as a girl not too bold, with just one relationship. The kind and sweet girl that is staying at home and doesn't want to go out to party all the time... But in this story, she became a little bit wild.
Maybe her lust over professor Hunter turned her to a bold woman, but i think that it was a little bit wrong!!!

She was a little bit confusing in many matters... Her raging hormones were driving me crazy!!!

"The hunger in his eyes was a temptation I could no longer resist. I had been lying to myself this whole time.I wasn't a good girl. I was bad. And boldness suddenly came easily to me."

Yep, she was madly in love with James, but when she was mad with him she was acting so irrational, and she was doing big mistakes.
I didn't like the fact that when she learned James secret, she preferred to act like stupid that sit down and talk to him!!!
And i have to remind her that she was keeping a secret too. A secret that was seemed minus but it could destroyed them once for all...

I also didn't like how she played Tyler. He didn't deserved this kind of treatment.
And for God's sake!!! Why in the hell this girl was calling her lover Professor Hunter even in their most intimate moments??? I will never get oner this shit!!!

I also want to tell that i really liked Tyler and that wasn't so good!!!
I preffered that in the beginning appeared as the villain, but damn it!!! He turned out to be such a wonderfull guy and i really got confused!!!
I truly liked him, but not for Penny!!! Right??? I still preffer James!!!

As for her best friend, Melissa??? I liked her and i didn't liked her.
I liked that she was such a good friend for Penny and she was taking care after her, but i didn't liked that she was so insisted in other matters... I think that her insistence was complicating the things for Penny even more...

Well, the end was ugly...
There were so many hidden truths beside James and Penny and i want so badly for those two to find their HEA together...

Ivy Smoak, i hate you!!! (No, i don't!!!)
Why you had to write another three parts??? I'm dying here from the agony!!!

I want the next chapters in this forbidden love!!!

If I could give this zero stars, I would. I haven't read such a bad book in a long time. I tried, I really did. Picked it up 3 times but didn't get further than 75 pages. This was a complete waste of time. The writing is bad, the characters lack depth, there is zilch chemistry between the leads and the story makes no sense what so ever. I mean seriously? Penny was shallow. She's supposed to be this sweet innocent girl, but she is just boring and can't make up her mind. Professor Hunter is supposed to be hot and all, but I don't see or feel it. The writing is so bad that it reads like a fourth grader wrote it. I'm not a writer at all, but even I could have made this more interesting I think and English isn't even my native language. I like the idea of a forbidden romance, but where is the tension of it all? The sneaking around and everything. There was none of it that. I've read fanfics about student-teacher relationships that are a 1000 times better than this. I'm going to look for a forbidden student-teacher romance novel that can make me forget about this disaster. Ugh what a waste of time.

I loved this story! I'm a big fan of teacher-student affair novels and on the whole I did enjoy it. I found myself hopelessly in love with Professor Hunter from the moment he enters the story.

Penny meets a sexy, handsome man in a coffee shop and they have an instant chemistry. On the first day of her public speaking course at college, the man is revealed as her new professor of communication. Will they be able to keep their hands to themselves when they see each other so often? Will their forbidden love flourish?

Professor Hunter was such an alpha, dominant man, so confident and strong! He has such a filthy, dirty mouth that just makes you all hot and bothered and I abso-freaking-lutely love that!!

The only thing that annoyed me was Penny’s best friend and roommate’s character, Melissa. I found her silly and light-headed. I loved Tyler, Penny’s classmate and friend who was in love with her and was pursuing her with all his heart. He was sweet, kind and sooo lovable! I don’t know if guys like him exist but I hope so.

The storyline, although not original, was interesting. I loved this couple and I rooted for them the whole way through! Their imperfections made them perfect. Their connection and the tension radiated off the pages. This book is seriously scorching hot!!!!! If you enjoy hot and taboo romance, you should definitely give this one a chance.

Let me tell you guys and gals that this lady right here is NOT a fan of serials. NOPE. Not me! I thought that I would pick up this parts 1-3 bit and get my full story but Nooooo and what pisses me off the most is that I was absolutely flipping hooked and definitely want more. Why, oh why could you have not left me in my serial hating blissful ignorance?

Seriously though, that Professor Hunter is one smexy dude and GO PENNY for fulfilling your naughty Professor fantasies lol I obviously enjoyed the story but there WAS one thing that pissed me off to the moon and back and that was the "reason" behind the temporary end there. PENNY IS THE ONE THAT SHOULD BE MAD HERE, FOLKS!

Nothing so brilliant

I hate leaving a bad review, only because it's somebody's work, however, I needed to leave a review of these books. I am an avid reader and I can truly say I have never read such a pathetic book. Unfortunately, I'm one of those readers that has to finish a book once started, I almost became my first unread book. I wish it had.
Nothing happens in this book that cold nothing have been written in just one stand alone book. The excuses these two lame characters make for being angry at each other are just so childish and immature. I wanted to slap her, then her room mate and then him. This book is trying too hard to be angsty, and there us no chemistry between them..I don't even know how this became a series. I got the booklet and I will nothing be buying the next book! Penny needs a brain or needs to grow up. Just a ridiculous read.

A sexy New Adult forbidden romance.
"...You never know what you'll find during a long walk in the rain."
For anyone who has ever lusted after a professor.
For readers who crave passion and drama.
For smut-loving readers on a rainy day...

The Hunted series is written in an interesting format - It is planned out as a trilogy, and each of the three books are split into three parts.

If you enjoy reading serial series, you can read each of the nine parts as they're published, or if you're a fan of longer works (like me) you can read the bundled novels.

The Hunted Temptation - Part 1 by Ivy Smoak
THE HUNTED: TEMPTATION - PART ONE

Off to a great Start!
This wasn't a game. Flirting with him wasn't the same as it was with guys my own age. Professor Hunter had an air of danger around him. He was intriguing because he terrified me.
I'm a sucker for sexy, broody professors, and Professor James Hunter is mouth-watering...

This installment represents the very start of our adventure with Penny and her whirlwind affair with her Communications Professor. The majority of the text laid the groundwork for the series - We get to know Penny (who has the sole, 1st person POV) as well as her friends and suitors.

Penny falls into the pseudo-tropey shy bookish college student category. She's not a virgin, but she's fairly inexperienced. Her previous romantic encounters have been pretty disastrous.

She's been dating boys.
Professor James Hunter is a Man.

Ah yes, forbidden fruit.

...I wasn't a bad girl, but I wanted to be bad for him. Doesn't that make me bad? I wanted to do things with him that would surely get him fired.
The story had a steady pace to it, and I was enjoying myself. The tension was building between Penny and Professor Hunter, and just when I though I would pass out from all the UST... The two had their moment.

AND. IT. WAS. HOT.
Sweet Baby Jesus, it was phenomenal!

I had already determined that the series was worth exploring, but once we hit that glorious moment of sexiness, I was hooked!

The Hunted Temptation - Part 2 by Ivy Smoak
THE HUNTED: TEMPTATION - PART TWO

Delicious!
I wasn't just fucking my professor. I was in deep. I loved him. I'm in clove with my Comm professor.
I'd like to start by saying that this little story contains one the the most jaw-dropping first dates I've read in a while - It might just melt your Kindle, so beware of the hotness!

Penny and her Professor have given in to temptation - their illicit affair is in full swing. Penny's feelings for James Hunter are growing, but we're no closer to unraveling the mystery which surrounds the man.

This episode picked up right where part one left off. The couple's hot and heavy desk-top romp was supposed to be the only moment of weakness.

Yeah Right!
The Professor wants more,
Penny needs more,
and I can't help but crave more of them both!

Penny and her professor are doing a bit of dating in this installment of the series, which allows for glimpses into the mysterious Professor Hunter, but it also increases the tension a bit... Because their relationship must stay a secret.

There's the whole student/professor dynamic,
The inexperienced and naive/ heartthrob sex-god balance,
and a fairly sizable age gap... Speaking of which, Penny has allowed her professor to assume she's a senior, and two years older than she actually is...

We left off with a cliffhanger at the end of this story, so I'll be jumping right into the next book.

The odds are definitely stacked against this couple, so I'm eager to see how it all plays out!

The Hunted Temptation - Part 3 by Ivy Smoak
THE HUNTED: TEMPTATION - PART THREE

Penny Taylor, step forward to receive your Hot Mess award...
Brownies were second only to condoms on my list of favorite things that come in foil.
A lot that went down in Part 3 of Temptation, so let's get going...

Penny left Professor Hunter's Apartment at the end of the last episode convinced that James Hunter is a married man. It was a thoughtless tantrum that makes me want to shake the crap out of this girl.

Penny Taylor has a habit of making childish & shortsighted decisions. She loudly proclaims the moral high-ground from deep within the hole she's digging herself.

In short, Penny Taylor is an obnoxious hot mess of a little girl... And for some unknown reason, I was glued to her story. Drama, drama, drama. I'm pretty sure I even yelled at my book a few times.

I'm a total sucker for the seduction of hot, brooding professors. That type of forbidden romance gets my smutty stamp of approval every single time.

The student/professor dynamic is plenty to work with in the angst department, but this story is determined to stack the odds against our MCs as high as humanly possible.

We've got a forbidden romance,
Obsessed professors,
Childish meltdowns,
Meddling friends,
& before this story concludes, we'll be laying in a good ol' fashioned love triangle.

HOT.
MESS.

...and I can't seem to look away.

I can't even fully articulate what has me so hypnotized by this overly angsty New Adult Romance. Penny Taylor is the kind of character that I want to rail against. She consistently makes wrong decisions. It's pretty impressive, actually.

Of course, it helps that Professor Hunter is a total heartthrob. Wealthy, mysterious, gorgeous, and utterly unobtainable. I can understand how a girl might lose her senses in the face of all that perfection.

The Hunted series might be a case of 'The Right Book at the Right Time'. I enjoyed the story despite the fact that it's outside of my usual tastes.

Ivy Smoak is a new to me author, and I'm enjoying what she has to offer.

Wow you have no idea how much i adore forbidden romances and a theme like professor/student drew me immediately. Well this one particularly was a roller-coaster of emotions, hot scenes and really enjoyable, interesting play between our two main characters.

Fate brought them together by accident but the twist was that James is her professor and Penny is his student..one part after the other my anticipation of what is going to happen create me goose bumps and secrets, twists the intensity you're enjoying to feel...yeah this one had almost every ingredient to suck you without having the ability to come out easily..

Furthermore the characters evolved smoothly along with the storyline, Penny from calm/stay in her room person because of James turn to a partying wild woman. As for James well he is a dominant, bold with a mystery vibe man.. stopping in this point i'm not saying anything else, i highly recommend it and i'm looking forward to the next parts because the end left me with sad feelings.

Feast your eyes on what is (as of right now) the worst book I’ve ever read.

I know, I know, I’ve bestowed this honor before but I’m allowed to change my mind. I’m not sure what deal was struck with the devil to give it such a high rating, (on Goodreads & Amazon! Wtf?!), but don’t be deceived like I was. ‘Temptation’ will kill brain cells...obviously.

I don’t know why authors write such nonsensical, emotionally driven, scatter brained females! Penny went from point A to Z in the blink of an eye. ‘OH! I READ IT ON THE INTERNET SO IT MUST BE TRUE! James is such a liar...I am too..but let’s not focus on that. Now imma maybe go fuck this other dude I’ve known about a month because I suddenly love him too! I don’t even care that he almost raped me that one time. He’s a good person now.’ Another thing that chaps my ass is this whole debacle occurred over a month. You mean to say Penny has found (maybe) 2 loves in 30 flipping days? Nuh-uh. Nope. You don’t know someone enough to love them in 30 days. That’s your vagina talking Penny. Go find a psychiatrist girl. Both of these men are assholes.

This book is hot flaming garbage. I can’t believe there are 3 more installments in the series. Who the F is reading this and enjoying it. Are you guys alright?! I’ve read the reviews on the next few books, and I know for a fact that nothing gets better. Penny is still a blind pitiful doormat, & James likes to lie. Who the fuck cares about Tyler-the-almost-rapist.

Okay I'm sorry but no. This book was fine and would've gotten 2 stars until the ending happened. HE PURPOSELY LIED TO HER ABOUT BEING MARRIED ANSHE ACCIDENTALLY LIED TO HIM ABOUT HER AGE (NOT EVEN BY A LOT) AND HE'S ALL "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU" I NEVER WOULD'VE DONE THIS IF ID KNOWN" LIKE WHAT TF DOES IT MATTER YOU'RE ALREADY HAVING A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR STUDENT SO WHAT IF SHE'S 19 AND NOT 21. HE REALLY JUST WENT OFF ON HER AND THATS NOT COOL AND IM MAD ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT LITERALLY MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. WHAT. THE. FUCK. Also the writing was sooooo annoying, the amount of times the author wrote the word "sexy" is too many. AND, their entire relationship consisted of sex, I thought this 353 page book was going to have some PLOT, but it was basically all sex and after awhile it got really boring to read. Like seriously its the 7th time in 100 pages, get over yourselves. I am just really mad right now.

Přemýšlím, jestli jsem někdy nějaké knize dala 1*. Asi ne. Ale vše je jednou poprvé, že. 😅

Vtipné a fluffy.

A Tyler? Come on.

Zhruba v půlce knihy mají u Huntera hlubokomyslnou debatu o důvěře. Penny řekne, že „má pocit, že před ní něco tají“. No jasně, že tajil! Vždyť jste spolu ještě pořádně nikdy nemluvili, absolutně nic o sobě nevědí! 😂

„Ukážu ti, že mi jde o víc než jen o sex.“ A čím jí to ukázal? Sexem. 😂

A ten konec?! 🤣 No tak to mám dost. 🤣

Meh.

Temptation seemed like an interesting new series to dive into. Yet, being knee deep in book 2.. I'm just not feeling it. Maybe they will get better or become more likable? No idea though. Should I continue torturing myself? Probably not but there's like 2 more books - right? I can do this.

In it, you will meet Penny and James. Of course things started off hot and heavy but these two definitely had their secrets. Sooner, rather than later, they all start to come out. Most come out towards the end of the book but they were all rather predictable.

Turns out that Penny is a lot younger than James thought - oh no! Then James was hiding an ex wife - details! Other than that, I just (ugh) can't stand Penny. She is just extremely needy and annoys the living shit out of me. Then there's James who semi decent but still weird and mysterious.

Hoping they will get better?

This was more like a 1.5⭐️ for me and that’s still generous. I had a lot of issues with this book. The MC Penny is sexually assaulted by a male student at a party and then she forgives him, contemplates a relationship with him, becomes his best friend and then leads him on whenever she is not getting what she wants from the professor she is in a ‘relationship’ with. Penny lies about her age and pursues her professor who she continues to call professor throughout the book which made me cringe. He has no substance to him and seems to be hiding many things apart from his wealth. The whole concept is meant to be taboo but none of the characters endeared themselves to me and all seemed very immature.

Aside from the plot being problematic and some parts being very cliche, Penny is an incredibly infuriating and immature character. I nearly didn't finish the book because I was just so done, but I just can't not finish a book so I managed to push myself. Definitely curious as to how these two unlikable characters would manage in the next book, but not too curious that I'd actually read the next installment.

This book wasn't for me. I really disliked both of the main characters, Penny came across as childish, selfish and immature and James was arrogant and self-absorbed. Both characters are lying to each other from the very beginning of their relationship but both get upset when they discover the other has been lying. Why??? They're both keeping secrets, some worse than others but both characters are doing it nonetheless. The sex scenes are hot but I struggled to find any real connection between Penny and James and then I got to the end to discover there is still no resolution, no HEA, not even a HFN. Definitely not for me.

4,5 stelline

3.5 Sexy Stars

After being used and pushed aside by her kind-of boyfriend Penny starts a new semester off by getting coffee all over her after a handsome stranger bumps into her. Needless to say that stranger turns out to be her new professor and she quickly finds herself thinking of little but him.

Penny was a tricky one for me, she often jumped before looking and made needless and wrong presumptions that created unnecessary drama. But at the same time I could understand her confusion.

James Hunter was created perfectly. The hot young professor who pushes away his student before giving into his lust. And let me tell you that when he does give in, he does it in style. That scene in his office, on his desk was hot. He was rough but you could tell he genuinely cared for Penny. I actually love him

description

That's one thing I can't fault in this book, all the sex was hot and I did enjoy those parts (obviously - I think it's clear I'm a bit of a sex obsessed book whore). But what held me back from really enjoying this book was the writing.

It took me til about 40% to get used to the writing and then whenever I put this down and picked it up I had to adjust to it all over again. It was a bit stunted and repetitive in parts and I nearly gave up reading it at all.

But the storyline, characters and drama were good, I enjoyed it and I want to know what happens for them. I just hope the writing flows a bit better.

2/5 ⭐️s

Maybe I picked the wrong Ivy Smoak book to start with, but this was kind of…horrible?

The storyline was promising. I don’t really love student/teacher romances, but they’re both adults (-ish), so I can’t fault it. I did think Penny was kind of irritating. I can’t be certain, but I think she was meant to be wholesome and endearing. Instead she was indecisive and incredibly selfish.

The worst part about this though was the writing. It was really kind of awful. The dialogue, especially. Nobody…NOBODY states the name of the person they’re talking to as often these characters did. It drove me crazy, and I had a really hard time getting past it.

I’m a big fan of forbidden romance novels and this story did not disappoint. It was a slow build but took off at the 25% mark.

The hero was all alpha, mysterious and hot and the heroine pretty much out of her element with him. The sex scenes were not only steamy but the locations were bold and risky where they can easily be caught.

Looking forward to reading book 2 in the series.

Recently I got a copy of Temptation and decided to dive right into it because my BFF loves this series. Overall, I thought this was really good! I read it quickly despite the page count and immediately started book 2 followed by the 3rd which I am on now. To say this series is addicting would truly be an understatement! I can’t stop reading them and frankly I don’t want to. It’s got a lot of great tropes- some which I haven’t read in a long time. With Temptation you get a new adult, college romance with a FORBIDDEN (student/teacher) trope. It’s spicy, bingeable, and dramatic! If you haven’t read the series but are looking for a book with one or all the tropes here, then I recommend grabbing a copy. You can even read them all for free with kindle unlimited!
