Mark and Devon have been best friends since they were ten and completely inseparable since they were thirteen. They were together before either of them presented as alpha or omega, and they've been the most important people in each other's lives without exception these last twelve years. Since they were in high school, everyone always asked if they were a couple, and eventually, they both just started saying yes. In their twenties, not much has changed. Neither of them have had a boyfriend ever, they basically live like a married couple, and most people––with the exception of a few––just assume they're together.
But among those few who don't, there is one that is actually stupid enough to try to get between them. When his meddling pushes both men into fighting for each other, the might actually find that they really have been together this whole time.
Hot Blooded is book seven in the Salacious Summer Singe novella series, which is a continuation of the Sprung Like Spring series. These books can be read as stand-alones but getting to know the overlapping characters will make it worth reading in order. There will be fluff, humor, a bit of farce and probably some pining, so sit back, relax and take a break from the horrors of reality!
After getting to know Mark and Devon through the eyes of their sons as they fell in love, it was wonderful to go back and see how their relationship started. They started out as best friends at the age of ten, but despite life circumstances and then later on, how others viewed their relationship, both me were afraid of ruining their friendship. But the love between the two men is obvious and it was lovely to glimpse that part of their lives together. A great end to a wonderful series!!
So this is actually the first book I’ve read in this series (I’m so behind in my JD reading it should be criminal), but I’m kinda glad I started with this one as it’s the main family of the series origin story and I loved getting to see where it all began. Mark and Devon were adorably clueless, so it was fun watching them figure out they were more than friends, though it makes no sense how they could’ve missed it lol. JD does an amazing job of writing short fluffy comfort reads and I can’t wait to go back and experience this series from the beginning.
This was a Great ending and beginning to the Foster clan. Mark is the type to cut a bitch and I'm glad we got to see how that came about. And Devon the gentle fierce Alpha who was the only person to calm Mark down before he killed somebody. I really enjoyed this series! Great work Ma'am!
I haven't read previous books in the series and I think i needed to but it doesn't spoil anything really. Mark and Devon are best friends that are in a relationship but not, it is confusing for everyone around them, especially people who want to get to know them better. Mark is an omega who doesn't take any rubbish from anyone and can be quite viscous when he wants while Devon is a placid alpha who is very protective of Mark. After a business like arrangement to join together in holy union they decide to cement this decision by upgrading their status to more than friends which has them realising that all along that they were destined for each other. Hot and steamy in places and very family orientated with so much love shining through.
Finally, the story we have all been waiting for and it was well worth the wait! Hot Blooded is the story of Da and Pa, otherwise known as Mark and Devon. Their story is one of True Lifelong Love, the one we all hope we find someday. I will say, it was totally not what I expected, but it just grabbed me right from the start and I couldn’t stop smiling the whole time I was reading. You are brought along for the journey of their story, starting when they were just young kids, all the way up to where they finally realize that they are truly meant to spend their lives together. They do it in a bit of a backwards way, but for them and we who get to share their story, it works well and I couldn’t picture them any other way now that I know their story. I am sad to see the story of this wonderful family come to an end and I do hope to see what is in store for the Grandkids in the future!
Finally, we get to see the love story unfold between Mark and Devon (Da and Dad)! J.D. Light’s ability to make me laugh out loud continues in this sweet Foster family origin story. After experiencing the craziness of Mark and the steadiness of Devon in the other books of the series (Salacious Summer Singe) I was not disappointed in where their story began. Mark remains the crazy but loving wildcard who doesn’t know he’s been in love with his best friend, Devon, for years, and Devon is the anchor that keeps Mark from all sorts of trouble. I knew they were a perfect match before but now I can see how they are truly soul mates. So glad we got this glimpse into the love story that started it all.
Okay if you love the Dads Mark and Devon in this series and have wanted more of them or only them then this is for you. Except the last chapter this is all about them growing up and falling in love.
Mark and Devon have been my favorite since the first book saw them in. I think that was last book in Sprung Like Spring series which is the prequel to this.
They have six alpha boys the adopted 5 of them. Cole is their bio son. This book take you through their teens and adulthood. Devon was foster child too which I didn't remember reading. Mark's mom failed keeping them apart and so did one Devon's co-workers that tried his best get him.
Such a wonderful couple and I loved them from the start. Second is having keep Mark out of trouble which is hilarious. Mark is always wanting to marry off someone we see in here that didn't start with their own kids lol.
I am sad see this series end. Sex was great and get see more the grandkids at end.
4/5. Highlights may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

This was such a cute book! Now this was my first book in this universe (contemporary mpreg) so I definitely could tell by the end this was almost a “prequel” because I’m guessing these men are the parents/grandparents of characters from the other book. Regardless of that fact, though, I was able to follow along plenty!
These two were adorable and I loved the jealousy. Mark was the hilarious chihuahua character whole Devon was kind and laid back. I loved that they were the type who wanted to be around each other all the time, and how that was true for them as kids too.
This story was just perfect. I loved how completely obvious Mark and Devon were. In every story they have always been really funny and this one was no different. If was really nice to get their story. Two see them from the beginning as kids that are best friends and watch them figure thangs out in the funniest of ways. I totally recommend this story but make sure you read the other ones to get the full effect. You won't regret it. J.D. Light you have once again pulled me in with a wonderful read that didn't put down until I was finished reading it.
Sweet, wonderful, sometimes a little frightening, and utterly perfect.
I adored this book. We’ve had the delight of reading about Mark and Devon since we were first introduced to them at the end of Sprung like Spring and this was the most perfect, beautiful and sweet way to end Summer Singe. Mark was his usual slightly terrifying and lovable self and Devon was so utterly perfect in his calmness and love for Mark. This was the perfect ending (only for now hopefully!!!) to this series. I just keep hoping that we’ll get to see Hollis and all the kids soon too!
My gods the things this author does when they edit their work.
I LOVED THIS STORY DO MUCH I THINK I DIED. Yeah, that needed to be all caps. Mark and Devon. Omg. Mark and Devon and I DIED. I loved them and their story. I wish they adopted more kids so I could see them more. Love mark. I wish he was in my family. Devon too. Gah!
This story was sweet, fluffy as a Pomeranian, pretty much no angst and HILARIOUS. Loved this so much. Buy it. Buy it NOW. Gotta go back now and re-read this entire freaking series.
This was a good way to finish this series before moving into the WTF series. I like reading a series where the characters tie into each other and I really think that is a strong suit of the author. Yeah some times names get screwed up but that can be fixed with better editing. And some people may get overwhelmed because there are "too many" characters but I don't think there are. There are always two main characters and then the supporting characters. I think it works. Looking forward to the WTF series and I hope there is more after that!
They meet at age ten. Nothing is going to keep them apart. Not a two hour bike ride, nor a disapproving mama. They move in together after high school. And even their closest friends can't tell if they're a couple. Or not. Mark and Devon love each other, but it takes a pushy omega who wants Devon, for them to realize that they are actually in love with each other. This is a sweet. slightly tart, love story of where the Foster family began. It makes a fine end cap story for the series which was filled with Mark and Devon's (Da and Dad's) beloved alpha sons.
I was in a dark place when i started reading this series. I just wanted an escape and what I got was laughter that not only got me out of that place but a whole new series that I will go back to. The snark and sass of everyone is amazing the characters all have their own spunk and can we for real clone Mark and Devons love because holy cow I wish they were my parents in real life. This book was the perfect ending to both series and a the wonderful way this author writes is beyond words highly recommend they did an amazing job.
How many ways can you say that a book hit its mark? Looking it up on thesaurus.com, there are a lot, so Devon and Mark 'cut the mustard', and JD Light 'delivered the goods'! Hot Blooded, delivered I think everything that we, reader's, or me anyway, expected of Devon and Mark. I laughed and giggled my way through, and was thoroughly pleased at the end.
I've been waiting for this story. I've loved all of the stories about Mark and Devon's boys. But finally getting to read their story, watch them fall in love, it has been so wonderful. I hate to see this series end. But I look forward to much more from J.D. Light.
I loved reading Mark and Devon's beginning! Mark, aka Da, did not disappoint. He is so delightfully devious and does not suffer fools. Devon is hopelessly devoted and they both just got together like pieces of a puzzle. I have enjoyed this entire series and getting to read Mark and Devon' s love story was the icing on top of the cake!
Mark and Devon's story was absolutely the best in the series. Mark's antics obviously started when he was a child and carried on through adulthood. We saw that Devon had always been the kind and steady man who evened out Mark's more active side. I love this series and am sad to see it end.
First I want to thank you JD for the exceptional diversity throughout this whole series and love this cover. Just what I was waiting for and completely worth the wait the cutest couple ever! And I love how this book completely explains their relationship, their sync, how they started.... it was a perfect short read. Thank you JD.
I loved this book. After reading all the books leading up to this one. It was the topper. I loved the way it was written to explain how it all started....It showed the love of Mark and Devon and how it all began. Awesome. I recommend this book to anyone who is into reading this series.
Omg things to be the cutest book I have ever read. In order to really enjoy it you need to read through the series. It is sweet and loving. Mark and Devon make you believe in true love.
I absolutely loved this book! It was everything I had hoped for. Mark with his ridiculous self and Devon with his calming down the crazy lol. I was so happy to see where everything started.
This is the first one that I read in this series and I’m so glad. It makes me want to go and read all of them. This couple is too lovely. Believe it or not it kind of mirrors my own love story and it was awesome to find something that I can relate to.
The best way to end the series. I wanted Mark and Devon’s story. It’s so good to get to see how they started and answered some questions I had. Even though I hate that the series ended, their story was the best way to end it.
It was just a sweet story of two people that found their other have at a young age and never let them go. I really enjoyed reading about Mark and Devon and how they came to be Da and Dad
Love! All kinds of love. I love this series and wish there were more open caring people in real life that would open their hearts and homes to others. I enjoyed this series, all books are quick reads. Enjoyable.
Mark was lovingly homicidal from the start!! He’s hilarious and add in Devon and the fun never stops! I loved the graphic description of murder his mother received. But, she kinda earned it!!!
Such an amazing story of love & longevity & finding someone who loves you & likes you. All the parts of you that are a little off center, they like & then love about you. Mark & Devon are what love should look like & maybe used to a long time ago. I love this book!
