Tamer of the Beasts #1

Into the Tall Grass

Rate this book
Two suns, foreign plants, and a whole slew of monsters to tame.

Amateur entomologist and reluctant Life Scout, Caleb finds far more than he expected when he stumbles through a hidden cave and into a new world full of Kritt - monsters that can be tamed and taught to fight. He also didn’t expect evil overlords and their minions looking to use the power of Kritt to grind this world under their bootheel.

Unless someone stops them, that is.

Once meeting Antoinette, an affectionate ant Kritt that bonds with Caleb, and Karla, a tamer of this world that’s living off the land and preparing to strike back against the Darkholds, they set off. Their goal? Help free the people of this world from the Overseer’s grasp. A mountain’s worth of threats stand in their way, though: the Overseer’s soldiers, terrible abominations, wild Kritt, and all the trouble Caleb’s sarcastic mouth can cause.

Welcome, Caleb, to the world of Kritt. Now evolve - or perish.

Bugs!

I've been wanting to read a litrpg with heavy emphasis on taming monsters and pets and this series fits nicely. Im not a huge fan of giant bugs but when the act like doggos I'm totally sold. I enjoyed the humor and pop culture/anime references but one glaring thing was the fact that there was only like one pokemon joke Even though the comparisons are noticeable. Overall I though the book was very satisfying and I will definitely pick up next one.

What made the book extra special too me was the inclusion of a gay couple! THANK YOU! I love diversity in all shapes and forms in my literature.

Very good story, needs editing

Love the story, world, snark, and characters. My only complaint (which is a big deal to most) is it really needs combed over for editing. There are parts where he and she get mixed up and it's hard to tell who is saying/doing what. Some words have clearly been auto corrected so they're wrong.
Other than that, fantastic story and I look forward to reading the next book!

This book is like Pokémon advanced, in that it provides wonderful solutions for several of the problems that plague the series which inspired it. The story itself was fun and engaging, with the main character being just flawed enough to be believable, but still strong as an MC.

With luck, there'll be more of this series in the future.

It was fine but didn't especially stand out in any way. Part of the totally-not-Pokemon-monster-catching-and-fighting subgenre. Very standard snarky main character who is 15 or something but acts and talks like he's 30. I found it allover very okay.

One of the most actively terrible books I've ever encountered. Unreadable. DNF at 23%.
